I’ve been avoiding dairy because I thought I might be lactose intolerant. Now I know it’s not just that.   • Except for processed supplements, protein tends to come “packaged” with a lot of other substances, many of which a senior-citizen’s body might NOT be better-off getting more of in their attempt to maximize protein intake. Supplements would seem to be the solution, but what SPECIFICALLY should a 70 year old man use to get his extra requirements of protein?

  • Have you read Tom. Brady’s book TB 12 Method? He tasks about training with pliability. Now I have just begun reading this book. But I have a feeling it will look a lot like your MAPS performance and prime.

  • Stress and T type. I have no pinchable anything around my love handles and my booty is also very taut, despite me being 80lbs overweight.

  • Overall good talk, but Dr. Bernard seems to ignore a lot of the studies that says that the body is self regulating when it comes to Cholesterol. He also doesn’t mention that the newest signs shows that one of the biggest factors in heart disease is Sugar, DIABETES and Metabolic Syndrome.

    He also states that the body is FRAGILE and things can go wrong with it all the time, actually the body is amazingly resilient, especially considering the chemical onslaught that most people face in there environment every day. Terms of looking younger, fitter I think Rich Roll has Dr. Bernard beat hands down LOL

    It would also be refreshing sometimes if these guests if the overall objective is to get people healthier, is to refer them to other sources like Dr. Michael McGregor who’s website is a fountain of knowledge when it comes to plant-based eating. Or perhaps mention one of Rich Roll‘s favourite guess Dr Zack Bush and his amazing product For restoring GUT HEALTH Ion Biome. Also when it comes to Omega 3 I think there could’ve been a better effort to explain that there are good sources of omega-3, I think the overall impression was that people might if I already taking a mega three supplements that they might want to cut it out in fear of CANCER. The next elephant in the closet when it comes to meat eating, which I agree with Rich obviously you can get all your proteins from other sources, perhaps there is some small benefit of eating small amounts of meat

    But nobody really stresses or makes the point that if you are going to eat meat try and source it Farms where the animals are treated as humanely as possible, so they don’t have those fear and stress hormones in their blood and meat, and and that they are grass fed in the case of cows, cattle and antibiotic and hormone free

    Would love to see Rich doing a podcast with perhaps Markus Rothkranz Who is an amazing biohacker, and also a podcast on PEMF therapy for your health

  • I don’t understand why they are saying that 1 gram of protein / lb. of body wgt./ day is recommended….that seems way too much. They already said that anything over what is used to build or repair tissue is then burned as fuel (or possibly stored as fat)….an inefficient use of protein. Any protein released from cell death and tissue breakdown is recycled which reduces our daily protein intake needs to some extent. From what I’ve heard, the maximum amount of muscle an average drug-free person can add to his body each day from aggressive workouts is about the size of a thimble…so why is so much protein, (i.e., 5 to 8 oz. / day dry weight) recommended?

    And Rippetoe describes veganism as a dietary disorder….really? A disorder? Bill Pearl and many other athletes and body-builders have done quite well on plant-based diets. I suppose all of the largest and strongest land animals are suffering from that same disorder…Elephant, Rhinoceros, Hippopotamus, Water Buffalo, Bison, Giraffe, Moose, etc…How do they ever manage to lift themselves up by only eating plants? If anything about the human diet is a disorder, it is clearly the overconsumption of animal protein, and the consequential underconsumption of fiber.

  • So the advice that you should drink much more WATER if you increase your protein intake is still valid??
    I mean did I understand correctly that if I increase my protein intake and NOT increase my water intake, NOTHING happens, or at least is no huge deal?? No renal issues as a result of THAT particular change?? I drink a 1-1/2 liters of water during workouts, plus plenty of coffee in the morning and drink some during the day… I started FORCING myself to drink MORE water when I augmented my protein intake so….???

    My preceptor told a student athlete that “eating more than 20g of protein at one time is a waste since it won’t be absorbed”. I argued that his statement was false. He didn’t believe me. Can you please help me out with a logical explanation to persuade him?

  • My father had a ruptured aorta and insisted on driving himself to the hospital with me in the passenger seat, though I was a competant driver at the time.   • The creatinine thing happened to me!
    When my doctor took blood test a while back she got worried about my high creatinine level. Since it sounded similar to creatine I figured there might be a connection so I told her I was taking 5 gram of creatine monohydrate per day. She was actually aware about this problem and simply asked me to stop taking the supplement for a week, then we retested the creatinine and it was normal.

  • No pain, burn in neck and armpits. EKG didn’t show a problem before or after CATH lab showed problem with a 90% blockage in the widow maker. Short of breath doesn’t work for me neither does heart burn and my symptoms were so slight it was a hard guess and I am female. 2 heart attacks in the hospital and fit bit did a reasonable job of showing when it happened. They could see them. On the heart monitor but I rested my way through them. I was walking when the last one happened and I just didn’t feel good so I went and laid back down and tried to get all the oxygen I could get. I got H1N1 and Pneumonia in the hospital and that mad it even harder for me to get the O2 I needed. Yes, that was verified by one of my Drs.

  • I went whole food plant based when I was having stomach problems..before I only ate meat at dinner and ate a lot of fruits and veggies..I also ate cheese..when i went WFPB 3 months ago I noticed I didn’t need my BHRT estrogen as much..I only take it now if I have symptoms..so the animal products or the sugar has something to do with this for sure

    2. Referred pain such as in left, arm, jaw, neck…source of pain is heart. Pain may also be in the abdomen.
    3. Body feels weak, because blood is moving with less fork.

    6. Shortness of breath, usually more than you usually would get when doing activities

  • About a month or so ago I had very intense chest pain, that radiated to my left upper arm, neck and jaw, as well as between shoulder blades (toward left). I felt a weird lump in my throat, like a burp that I couldn’t get out (despite experiencing intense belching, which was also unusual). I was feeling really winded, and was very dizzy and nauseous. I was scared of calling an ambulance so I tried to sleep it off and went to an urgent care clinic in the morning. Got to the urgent care, my resting heart rate was 118, my blood pressure was 156/105, my heartbeat was irregular. Wanna hear my interaction with the doctor who totally took my symptoms seriously?

    Doctor: How old are you?
    Me: 25.
    Doctor: Do you have a heart condition?
    Me: Not sure. Not that I know of.
    Doctor: Family history of heart disease?
    Me: Yes, a few on both side. All 4 of my dad’s siblings have heart disease. My dad has high blood pressure. My maternal grandfather had heart bypass surgery a few years ago. My maternal uncle has high blood pressure as well.
    Doctor: Do you have a stressful job
    Me: Reasonably stressful. Maybe a 5/10.
    Doctor: Well, it’s very common for ladies your age to suffer from anxiety and have panic attacks. I would recommend seeing a psychologist to follow up on this. Anxiety is real, so you should take it seriously.

    That’s it. No tests besides a chest X-ray (which was normal). Yay! Time well spent!

    So no, I will not be wasting any more time and money when I have these symptoms, only to hear about how common it is for ladies my age to suffer from anxiety then sound like a hypochondriac when I press the doctor about further testing. Sorry. I’m riding whatever this is out until it either goes away or I drop cold on the ground. Thanks.

  • You should also take an aspirin asap after symptoms start. That’s the first thing that paramedics give you (anyone suspected might be having a heart attack, (4-81 mg chewable aspirin) in the ambulance. Also, when I had my heart attack, I had right arm pain-not left. Everyone’s different.

  • Here’s the truth all these symptoms could be at least 20 different things if not more that’s why it’s scary cause there really is no way of telling if your having a heart attack of course if you feel like something is very wrong definetly go the hospital better safe than dead but the truth is we all die at some point this reality was never meant to last of course for the “conscious self” it’s scary the idea of dieing or shall I say returning to nothing the absolute. All sudden out of no where 1 month ago started getting sever chest pain…heart racing…sweating…loosing conciousness…pain in jaw and neck…I could be active or be in bed relaxing I went to hospital from work very embarrassing Ekg showed no clots they took blood work that showed I was not having a heart attack but they still dont know why my heart went from 97 to 150 heart beats per min so now I need to follow up with a cardiologist but always worried now that my heart is going to start acting up I also work out alot now I’m scared to lift weights even scared to go to work since it’s a very stressful atmosphere i still dont have an answer to why this is happening to me people are telling me its anxiety…panic attack. To me it feels like I’m dieing like theres something wrong with my heart but this is already taking control over my life and it’s only been a month I cant deal with this for years! I really hope its something that can be fixed or something that can go away cause it’s not worth living a life always in pain and worry about what the pain is…my life is hard enough if it is my heart I’d rather it just have its attack and get it over with I know I’ll be scared shirtless cause I’ll be dieing but once dead free at last…I’m 27 all sudden out of no where I’m having panic attacks? All sudden my heart is about to fail? Hospital dont know…I dont know…this is bullshit

  • You can try and work out what effect different Vegan diets will have on strength and hypertrophy, but to call it an eating disorder is logically and scientifically incorrect. It’s also fairly insulting o.0 I mean putting it in the same category as anorexia nervosa?

  • I wish i had found this video two or even three years ago. A year ago i decided to get better because i felt that something was seriousely wrong. At that point eating no more than 600 kcal was normal even when i did 1,5 hrs of HIIT the very same day, those 1000 kcal burn i did every other day. I used to have these metabolism drop downs right after where i could barely move (literally, not because i didnt want to but i really could not). I was freezing even with two thick blankets after those workouts, felt like i would’t ever be warm again. Also, i had insomnia all along. I only got around 3 to 4 hrs of sleep per night, and even those not in one go. Depression is another thing that often remains unmentionned. Im not saying im such a poor thing and all. Im just saying that was totally normal for me and no one even commented on it once all those years. Im simply stating how it was and partly still is. I want to get better and im looking for advice.

    Now after 2 years im still recovering. Recently i stopped tracking how much i was eating because at 1700 kcal, even with training, my head felt clouded and my body felt groce. (I started it because i would not get any hunger signals except from suddenly shaking hands and in worst cases trouble breathing and almost blacking out and murdering headaches the day after) Now one month later, getting back to tracking my food i had to realize that i only ate around 800kcal a day. Seriously i almost made it to 1800kcal per day and now i have to do that whole sh*t again!? Its not like its easy. Just dont know what to do anymore. Nothing seems to work.

    Well if you made it all the way to here, first of all thanks for caring enough to read all the way to here. Secondly, please, if you have experienced something similar or know something could help, write. (And please dont write “go see a doctor” I dont have the funds).

  • DO NOT WAIT for symptoms of a heart attack or think eating right will keep you from getting one! KNOW your family history. What killed your parents or grandparents. What killed your relatives. If you find a pattern then get tested for whatever it was. If your doctor seems non motivated GET ANOTHER doctor. When it comes to the heart and cancer relatives are the best predictor of what is coming for you not simply eating right or a few tests! Stay on top of it. Be pro active!

  • What is sometimes forgotten in discussions, research papers and lectures like this, is that the data is often very US-centric, but conclusions and findings are then communicated as if they were universal. Then some American newspaper article or book gets translated and the rest is already pure conspiration theory. Just wanted to remind, that the use of growth etc hormones and antibiotics is actually prohibited in many countries. Also I must say that subjectively I am starting to feel really bad and objectively I am getting even more anemic than usually, if I don’t eat some meat at least twice a month or so.

  • Hi I didn’t have any chest pain at when I had my heart attack. I am a woman. I was 55. I had bad neck pain (I’m always stressed & have anxiety so i thought it was from that) heartburn (which I didnt think much of it because I have gerd.) When it to got to that point i felt like someone was sticking thier finger through my trachea and I felt like I was going to pass out is when I called 911. I had 100 % blockage and a stent put in. I had no other symptoms. Also Those symptoms lasted 6 hrs. I found the whole thing very shocking & quite scary…

  • My husband died of a massive heart attack. one month prior he had spaced out while driving and was weak and had to sit in the shade and didn’t look good. He was experiencing oxygen deprivation to the brain that caused the spacing out. I strongly urged him to let me take him to the hospital, but he wouldn’t go. After the event, he was needing to rest more often. He was not forthcoming in what he was feeling, but not trusting doctors was instead trying, different things himself, even after his own doctor had recommended strongly he get a stress test. It may have sent him into a heart attack. His arteries were blocked so badly they could not save him when he finally was overcome with heart failure which left him coughing for literally hours before he would agree to going to the ER. He thought it was some chest thing, is what he called it. He only agreed to go in when I looked online and saw the symptoms he had that night were like pneumonia! It was a horrible painful struggle that even the expert heart failure specialist could not save him from then. I hope this testimony of his demise will help get someone to the hospital or doctor in time to save their life. My husband was The Tinkerer and gifted at fixing so many things with his wonderful ability. It at times make me angry at him for being so foolish as he tried to fix what was wrong with his body, stubbornly denying the direction and help that was being offered him. I hope and pray this will save a life.

The cornary artery calcium score and it cost about 200$(depends from were you from) it can tell you When calcium is present, the higher the score, the higher your risk of heart disease. A score of 100 to 300 means moderate plaque deposits. It’s associated with a relatively high risk of heart attack or other heart disease over the next three to five years.

  • So wait… when the energy (in kcal) necessary for bodily functions (protein synthesis, brain, breathing, etc etc etc) is satisfied, any extra calories FROM PROTEIN is just converted into heat, and NOT stored as bodyfat???

    If this is the case, it’s then impossible to gain fat from protein, literally? So if one needs 3000kcal for maintenance, and they eat 2000kcal from carbs and fat, and 1500kcal from protein, what happens? Does the body use the 1500kcal from the protein and 1500kcal from carbs and or fat, and store the remaining 500kcal from carbs and or fat, as bodyfat, or does it use the energy from the carbs and fat first? Like, does the body prioritize energy from one source over another?

    In short, are the keto people right?

  • My problem is most of these signs are normal for me.
    I have chest pain, arm pain etc all on the left side cuz my spine and neck are messed up.

    Recently a lot more foods have been giving me heart burn. The only food I cut out that I commonly ate is applesauce.

    anxiety just makes these symptoms feel worse than they are. Plus gives a rapid heart rate and shortness of breathe. Which I’m still not sure how short of breathe is dangerous. Cuz there’s like if you are sprinting or a light jog or what have you.

    I don’t get dizziness but headaches and tiredness is pretty common for me as an insomniac.

    And doctors give me so much grief if it turns out to be nothing.

    My whole life I thought i had a heart issue. I didn’t find out it was my spine and neck until I was 21 or 22 Becuase a doctor thought maybe he is feeling pain and it doesn’t have to be a heart attack. Hit my neck on both sides and on the left side it made my fingers tingle. 22 years and that’s all it took to figure why I was in pain?

    So yeah, doctors have made me feel like I’m not allowed to go to them or go to the ER or call 911 unless I have an obvious issue I can point out ahead of time. What happened to I list my symptoms and y’all figure out what’s wrong? Without going right to “it’s all in your head”.

    Le sigh. I can see being a doctor and getting a bunch of people with anxiety over and over can get annoying but like with every job you have to push those feelings down and treat every person like you care.

  • Wow, this makes so much sense I am a crossfit athlete and I definitely overtrain and I notice in the morning I eat and after 12 I am not hungry until 7 or 8 in the evening so I go without eating but lift and metcon 6 days a week so I know for a fact I am in this boat it has been difficult for me to eat and I am wondering how do I reboot my metabolism?

  • I had horrible menstral cramps, heavy irregular periods, and infertility most my adult life. I never used birth control. I miscarried the few pregnancies that were far enough along to register. I went vegan at age 46. My menstral pain went away and my cycle became regular for the first time in my life. I am now 58 and post menopausal. Menopause was fairly easy. Still vegan, and low fat. I wish I had known about going vegan earlier, I might have been able to have children. I am looking forward to reading the book!

  • I am just a person who carries a lot of weight on my lower half. The top of me is a small while the bottom is a large to XL and this video actually helped a lot.

  • WOW! I really really needed this! I watched this twice and everything makes sense. Have been guilty of overtraining, not eating enough and I’m definitely starting to feel the effects of that.
