The water apple is a tropical fruit and despite its name, the fruit isn’t actually considered to be an apple. The fruit itself is relatively small and tends to be less than an inch in length. It has a relatively mild or faint flavor, which resembles an apple, however, the texture of the inside is more similar to a watermelon. But what about lychee, pomelo, persimmon and durian?
Let alone recognizing these fruits, have you ever even heard of them? They are exotic fruits, most of them found in Southeast Asia but also often at Asian food stores here in the States. Some are furry, some are fuchsia, some have bright white flesh. Discover 10 amazing exotic fruits you’ve probably never tried-or even heard of.
Plus, learn where each fruit originated, how to eat it and what it tastes like at WomansDay.com. When it comes to fruit, we Australians don’t usually stray far from our bananas, apples and oranges. If we’re feeling exotic, a golden kiwi fruit might get your vote but, really, we’re pretty.
List of related literature:
The project focuses on four tropical fruit tree species, citrus (Citrus spp.), mango (Mangifera indica), mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana), rambutan (Nephelium lappaceum) and their wild relatives (some of which are edible).
Among its major fruits are durian (“king of fruits”), mangosteen (“queen of fruits”), rambutan, longang, pomelo, rose apple, mango, lychee, oranges, pineapple, papaya, guava, banana (three major types), coconuts, dragon fruit, and strawberries.
You’ll see banana, coconut and papaya growing in back gardens, with markets often loaded with pineapple, watermelon, citrus fruit including pomelo (a sweet, thick-skinned grapefruit), guava, avocado, passion fruit, mango, soursop and its close relative, the custard apple.
from Indonesia by Stephen Backshall Rough Guides, 2003
Other less common fruits are the mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana), durian (Durio zebithinus), sapodilla (Acras Sapota), custard-apple (Anona squamosa), rambutan (Nephelium lappaceum), limes, lemons, and a large number of inferior fruits that do not deserve special mention.
Tropical fruits include mango, papaya, jack fruit, passion fruit, melon and custard pears/apples but, since many of these are expensive in the UK, commonly available fruits such as apples, bananas, pears, grapes, strawberries, cherries, tangerines and oranges are more likely to be consumed.
Major tropical and subtropical fruits include mango, banana, citrus, grapes, litchi, pineapple, papaya, sapota, guava, mangosteen, avocado, jack, ber, passion fruit etc.
from Fruit Crops by T. Radha, Lila Mathew New India Publishing Agency, 2007
Oranges and tangerines can be transported at 4.5–7ºC with 90–95 percent RH with compatible commodities such as beans, lychees (litchi), bhindi (okra), green peppers, summer squash, pink tomatoes, and melons.
Other lesser-known species with edible fruit include Nephelium ramboutan-ake (pulasan), Nephelium maingayi (serait), Nephelium cuspidatum var. robustum (giant rambutan), Dimocarpus longan subsp.
Rapha: already confused with that fruit Then suddenly * 18:09 * and he’s just not even bothered just more confused trying to process whats going on now that’s cute
omg when he was wasting all these finger limes!!! I was crying inside!! Do you even know how expensive this thing is??? AHHHHH Like, it’s also called citrus caviar AND IT’S NOT FOR NOTHING!!
The chayote is usually eaten when it’s young and tender as you would a cucumber, and slightly mature fruit are cooked/fried in different ways(even though it’s a fruit, it functions as more of a vegetable). The smaller single banana flowers within a banana blossom pod are eaten, usually after being steamed in salted water with turmeric (to reduce oxidation), the flowers are chopped and sauteed in vegetable oil, cumin seeds, chopped ginger and salt (one way of cooking these flowers). It is eaten usually as an accompaniment to steamed rice. The bitter melon/ bitter gourd is very beneficial for children (helps improve eyesight), for those with skin diseases (cleans blood) and for diabetics (reduces blood sugar). The best bitter gourds (of the wrinklier variety) are smaller and darker green in colour. To eat, washed gourds need to be thinly sliced and sprinkled with turmeric powder and salt, then set aside for half an hour (this reduces quite a bit of the bitterness). This should then be drained and sauteed in vegetable oil with an equal amount of thinly sliced potatoes and red onions. Again, this is a dish served with steamed rice; and cooked just right, can almost taste like meat. I understand that this show was meant to be fun, but you should actually research how something is eaten in a cultureor else you could come across as offensive, I guess.:) Then again, that’s just my opinion.
People, you need to chill out! If you want full information on fruits in professional way there are plenty videos on Youtube. Cheat day is about fun and I think the fact that they don’t prepare is a part of it.
(Your skin isn’t paper so don’t cut it) (Your body isn’t a book so don’t judge it) (Your heart isn’t a door don’t lock it) (Your life isn’t a movie don’t end it) ( You’re beautiful Be you.. Stay safe) (ill sub to anybody who subed to me!!!)
As far as i know the dragon fruit with yellow skin and white meat are different from normal pink one, it much rarer atleast in my place and the texture different from normal one
Jack fruit trees are huge, and when they are good, they fall of the tree, so it’s a bit dangerous be around those trees. I think If It Falls in your Head It might kill you.
I’ve tried all the fruits in this video, except the last one and if you eat yellow dragon fruit, it’s like a natural laxative lol and rambutan like please don’t cut it with a knife your fellow asians will be triggered
I live in America, and right away I knew star fruit (delicious) dragon fruit (hate) and kumquats, which are completely edible unlike with orange peels. Very tart w/o the peel very bitter with it. But in general not bad
We tried them all in third grade at my elementary/primary school
Why do they do it? These types of channels never get good ripe fruits to taste test and they wonder why they taste bad. Why couldn’t these channels stop making offensive reacting videos and actually get a full panel of experts buy the fruits for them and then explain why it’s fucking grwat to eat it?!
Do weird pizzas and weird donuts, no one cares! They’re trash foods but come for the fruits and vegetables like an overpriveledged baboon and I will cut you.
Chayote? This is not a fruit! We call this chuchu in Brazil, this is a vegetable. You have to peel It and cook It to eat It! Try to peel It without being under running water, tho! It’s like having super glue on your skin!
As far as i know the dragon fruit with yellow skin and white meat are different from normal pink one, it much rarer atleast in my place and the texture different from normal one

As an Asian I thought these fruits are just the regular fruits I eat on a daily basis I used to think strawberries and other berries were rare fruits but this video killed me inside
I lived in Indonesia, the fruit at 18:00 (mangosteen) is one of my favorite fruits. It’s realllyyyy good. It’s a yes, Mangosteen is very popular in Indonesia and Malaysia
That star fruit is called BALIMBING here in the Philippines! Fruits you featured that we have here are: Star Fruit (Balimbing) Pineapple (all varieties) Dragon Fruit (2 variety, 1white inside, 1with purple pink inside) good for people with diabetes Mangoosteen (also is very good fruit and uses by many makers of food suplements)
Whites, No I’m gonna say pinks are so nasty, always thinking sexual. This fruit of the land have some fucking respect you pink bitches. They’d rather have sex with the fruit next!
I love Jicama. Here in the Philippines we call those “Singkamas” you need to peel it and cut it ti bite size and is better served with salt and vinegar or just salt.
Whether or not a fruit is exotic maybe it’s geographic: perhaps for a chinese our grapes are exotic. First time I tasted Dragon fruit was on Christmas 2019, just when I started watching BuzzFeed videos. What an exotic (not) coincidence! By the way, I think Kelsey should relax with the use of her bloody knife.
It just hurts my heart the way you ripped the Banana blossom! You should cook it first. It’s a delicacy you guys! And please don’t treat the jackfruit like that. All my INDIAN PEOPLE GIVE A if you agree!

Whaat? Hahaha we have the second fruit here in Colombia and it’s called Carambola. I didn’t know it was from Asia haha I was oretty sure it was from here
We have star fruit in jamaica also but we call it jumbilin which I don’t get because it is literally a star lol. I even have the tree growing in my backyard but I’m not a fan of the fruit
Jatobá tem cheiro ruim mesmo e o pó é forte…mas tinha mais fruta bacana ai para apresentar sendo aqui do reino brazuca….A Jaboticaba salvou pelo menos kkk.
I never knew Star fruit is expensive. I have a star fruit tree in my home. I never felt so lucky in my life… I want you to try jackfruit its very delicious
Those are asian fruits. The guy doesn’t know what he is taking about when he says that people would only buy rambutan because it’s fun. No, sir. Rambutan is DELICIOUS.
When prickly pear is green it’s not ready to eat u geth them from on top of cactuses when thay r purple not green and you can’t use your hands to grab them cuz they got tiny thorns
That is funny because I’m from Colombia and mangosteen and starfruit can be cultivated here too, but I guess that originally these fruits are from Asia
i absolutely love videos of people trying new food, that being said i was annoyed by how close minded you guys approched this… more the girl on the right.
You can find all of them easily in Indonesia, and btw the banana blossom, bitter melon, and cayote.. you should cook it first and cleaned them properly, you couldn’t just eat like that, the latex was bad to eat
I don’t think I’ve ever seen any of these fruits where I live (sadlyexcept Pomelo + Asian pear. Yum). But I do always do research whenever I find a new fruit or veg to try them. I feel like research wasn’t the point of this episode though lol.
different custard apples, jackfruit, dragonfruit, starfruit, wood apple, grapes, pomegranate, orange, apples, lichi and i forgot all others are so common in my country…..but we never feel anything too special about it…i think we should honestly…..we need to focus
20$ no kg de jabuticaba??? te vendo 5kg a 20$, quando passar no sul de minas me manda uma mensagem que te vendo um caminhão de jabuticaba… kkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
You broke the seed of the rambutan, that’s why it doesn’t taste good,,,, you should know first how to open it and teach them how to eat first so they can enjoy the tropical as you call exotic fruits
Rapha: already confused with that fruit Then suddenly * 18:09 * and he’s just not even bothered just more confused trying to process whats going on now that’s cute

All these shows literally give the people bad reputation, like how uneducated can people be. If dragonfruit smell bad, you guys are taking too much bad perfume-fused drinks you cant tell how fruits are supposed to smell like. Or your production crew bought the rotten one I don’t know

That last one has a cousin that grows in the US. In eastern/some Midwest states. It’s called a pawpaw. It’s supposed to taste like pineapple, banana and mango combined. I live in the middle of where they grow but I have never tried them since I didn’t know they existed until the season was over. I’m going to try and pick some next season though.
I have eaten all the fruit and Kelsey’s way of eating rambutan is correct, my parents say the yellow dragon fruit is usually for constipation and the last one is definitely not ripe at all. Edited: wait sorry, she use knife as well

I’m just Asian and my Mother is a Docter so I taste these fruits, Asian people LIKE DRAGON FRUIT and we LOVE rambutan and also my mom know what fruits for me
That was sick when they bite on the banana blossom. I laughed so loud hahaha…. And my eyes popped out when they bite on that bitter melon and chayote… oh mohhhhhh… hahaha
I have eaten all the fruit and Kelsey’s way of eating rambutan is correct, my parents say the yellow dragon fruit is usually for constipation and the last one is definitely not ripe at all. Edited: wait sorry, she use knife as well
Aside from the Horned Melon, these things are very common in the Philippines. And aside from tamarind, they ate these wrong. Chayote, banana blossom and bittermelon are considered vegetables here. These should be cooked first, specially the banana blossom. Bittermelon is also very nutritious and good for people with diabetes.

I grew up with these fruits (we actually categorise some of it as vegetables)… but my dear, they’re eating raw banana blossom, bitter melon, chayote made me laugh and cringe.
I am Jamaican and the jack fruit is amazing and u cut it open wrong because it would be easier if the whole seed was in so when u take the pegs out u could pop the seeds out then roast them.

Chayote you CAN eat the outside. It’s all editable. We are French & Colombian in my family, and we put it in soups. Veryyyy delicious & amazing texture. When it is raw, though, it has the flavor and texture of a green apple without the sweetness or sourness.
The pomelo is a fruit that you peel but if you’re cutting the fruit you have to not slice it all the way and then when you get to the base you open from the middle and you get little slices and you peel the side
That last one has a cousin that grows in the US. In eastern/some Midwest states. It’s called a pawpaw. It’s supposed to taste like pineapple, banana and mango combined. I live in the middle of where they grow but I have never tried them since I didn’t know they existed until the season was over. I’m going to try and pick some next season though.
different custard apples, jackfruit, dragonfruit, starfruit, wood apple, grapes, pomegranate, orange, apples, lichi and i forgot all others are so common in my country…..but we never feel anything too special about it…i think we should honestly…..we need to focus
Oh my gee.. The bitter melon, they ate even the seeds… I’ve never seen anyone eat Chayote(Sayote), Banana Blossom (Puso ng Saging) and Bitter Melon (Ampalaya) raw until this video. You guys should have researched better.
Omg de prickly pears God damn it you eating it wrong you have to cut the lumps and make a cut in the shell and then open and do not chew on the seeds I know I am too late
I’ve tried all the fruits in this video, except the last one and if you eat yellow dragon fruit, it’s like a natural laxative lol and rambutan like please don’t cut it with a knife your fellow asians will be triggered
I love chicos! its basically a very sweet version of a kiwi and it’s actually pronounced as chicooooo like the oooo you make when you’re fascinated by something haha
Rapha: already confused with that fruit
Then suddenly * 18:09 * and he’s just not even bothered just more confused trying to process whats going on now that’s cute
omg when he was wasting all these finger limes!!! I was crying inside!! Do you even know how expensive this thing is??? AHHHHH

You can just cut a dragon fruit. Yes, there are red/pink dragon fruits. Please don’t judge to quickly, it can offend a lot of asians.
Seriously? Who doesn’t know how to eat a rambutan? Cut it in the center?! GEEEEEZZZZ!!! And that’s not exotic actually….every fruit seller has it!
As far as i know the dragon fruit with yellow skin and white meat are different from normal pink one, it much rarer atleast in my place and the texture different from normal one
Dragon fruit is one of asian fruits, fresh, tasty n delicious for us, asian people. like durian. why are you american, don’t like them…i wonder
Jack fruit trees are huge, and when they are good, they fall of the tree, so it’s a bit dangerous be around those trees. I think If It Falls in your Head It might kill you.

Wow… I had never seen those fruits before… Wow… Now I know what they look like and what they are called… Thanks for the awesome video… Love you. ☺️
As far as i know the dragon fruit with yellow skin and white meat are different from normal pink one, it much rarer atleast in my place and the texture different from normal one
You must visit here in the Philippines. You can a lot stranger fruits, probably you can make them as all of your FAVOURITE

As an Asian I thought these fruits are just the regular fruits I eat on a daily basis I used to think strawberries and other berries were rare fruits but this video killed me inside
LOL majority of these are never eaten raw! These are vegetables that need to be cooked! You’ve been pranked by your producer

If you struggle to open rambutan, just pinch a bit of its skin like you’d pinch a naughty brat. When it punctures, break open and enjoy!!
i dunno if anyone need this but you can bite the skin of rambutan and peel it off with your finger and just pop the inside into your mouth
I hate how the big girl was acting like she barely wanted to try anything. Just eat it! I love when people go for it and try new things.

I didn’t know it was from Asia haha I was oretty sure it was from here
Thats bitter melon, in here called “pare” u must cook it before u eat .
Fyi, in here only 4 person from 10 person eat “pare”. Yakkksssss
If you struggle to open rambutan, just pinch a bit of its skin like you’d pinch a naughty brat. When it punctures, break open and enjoy!!

When prickly pear is green it’s not ready to eat u geth them from on top of cactuses when thay r purple not green and you can’t use your hands to grab them cuz they got tiny thorns
That is funny because I’m from Colombia and mangosteen and starfruit can be cultivated here too, but I guess that originally these fruits are from Asia
don’t feature someone not up for new stuffs on testing videos again. They’re like a sore thumb to watch. Keep Rie, Kelsey and the boi though.
i absolutely love videos of people trying new food, that being said i was annoyed by how close minded you guys approched this… more the girl on the right.
I’ve heard of these and seen them in videos but I’ve never had them myself except the dragon fruit which is in a drink at Starbucks and is so good
The best one is the one from Indonesia called Rapiah where it has short hair and bit sharpy.
Other than that type of rambutan its not tasty for me
You can find all of them easily in Indonesia, and btw the banana blossom, bitter melon, and cayote.. you should cook it first and cleaned them properly, you couldn’t just eat like that, the latex was bad to eat
20$ no kg de jabuticaba???
te vendo 5kg a 20$, quando passar no sul de minas me manda uma mensagem que te vendo um caminhão de jabuticaba…
kkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
You broke the seed of the rambutan, that’s why it doesn’t taste good,,,, you should know first how to open it and teach them how to eat first so they can enjoy the tropical as you call exotic fruits
Rapha: already confused with that fruit
Then suddenly * 18:09 * and he’s just not even bothered just more confused trying to process whats going on now that’s cute

All these shows literally give the people bad reputation, like how uneducated can people be. If dragonfruit smell bad, you guys are taking too much bad perfume-fused drinks you cant tell how fruits are supposed to smell like. Or your production crew bought the rotten one I don’t know
Banana blossom and bitter melon are better cooked and are probably more yummy I feel very bad bitter melon is pretty sweet when my mom cooks it
I live in America, and right away I knew star fruit (delicious) dragon fruit (hate) and kumquats, which are completely edible unlike with orange peels. Very tart w/o the peel very bitter with it. But in general not bad

The last fruit looks like SAWO (Manilkara zapota), and the one you ate was unripe. If you got the ripe one, it’s brown and very sweet.
How much did you pay for the star fruit? We can literally just get it for free if a relative or friend has the tree in the yard

I have tried the lychee, the mountain apples (which we call wax apples), and the soursop. They also make soursop ice cream where I live.

I have eaten all the fruit and Kelsey’s way of eating rambutan is correct, my parents say the yellow dragon fruit is usually for constipation and the last one is definitely not ripe at all.
Edited: wait sorry, she use knife as well

The first fruit is famous in Morocco it name there is karmous and it is much more cheaper and you’re supposed to cut it like a dragon fruit
I am Jamaican and the jack fruit is amazing and u cut it open wrong because it would be easier if the whole seed was in so when u take the pegs out u could pop the seeds out then roast them.
I’m just Asian and my Mother is a Docter so I taste these fruits, Asian people LIKE DRAGON FRUIT and we LOVE rambutan and also my mom know what fruits for me
