  • Hi Autumn, I’ve been watching for a few months. I have been carb cycling and Intermittent Fasting for 6 months. I’ve only lost a few pounds but have lost 12 inches which has allowed me to fit into some long lost jeans. Yeah! Today I had to have biometric testing for work and found my Total Cholesterol was 248 (yikes!) and my HDLs were good and my LDL’s were 145 (yikes again!). I have NEVER had any issues with my cholesterol/LDL’s EVER! A few months ago after watching your youtube channel, I started the keto coffee in the morning. I love it, but it makes my saturated fats way higher than normal. I’m wondering how this all plays out and would appreciate your thoughts. Now I’m concerned about my cholesterol, and my doctor is too.

  • Not 100% my knowledge, so don’t quote me on this, but according to many other fitness athletes and news articles, it is actually beneficial to space out your meals especially if your main goal is to lose fat. I’m in my undergrad taking a course in physiology and the course also states that diets, where people eat only once per day should not be considered beneficial even though it does significantly reduce weight. The reason why this type of diet works, is that it’s revolved around the idea that the average individual can only eat a certain amount in a small window of the day (often 1-2 hours as recommended by most sites that promote this form of diet). Given so, people will end up eating significantly fewer calories and will, therefore, force the body to resort to using triglycerides in adipose tissue as fuel or proteins once glycogen storages are depleted. This would mean even though an individual would lose weight, they would significantly lose a combination of both muscle and fat (can be large amounts of both), which is not the desired goal for many. Anyways, this ties back into the reason why it is more beneficial to space out your meals throughout the day. If you are ‘cutting’ and aim to lose fat, waiting to pack on the protein only after your workout may be detrimental for a couple reasons. Often times, when trying to lose fat, people would increase their protein intake while moderately decreasing carbs and fats. Following this diet, while also trying to eat it all at one period of the day means that for a large portion of the day, your body is not being fed any fuel at all. So even for the little activities, such as walking around your house, your body requires energy to execute said actions. Therefore, if your glycogen storages are already depleted, your body would catabolize proteins to use its amino acids to form glucose. In other words, your body eats at your muscles for most of the day.
    The second reason why it’s beneficial to space out your meals is that eating protein provides the satiation of feeling full. Even though this is a minor thing, a lot of people report that if they do cheat on their diet its due to cravings or an undying hunger. Therefore, by spacing out your protein, it can provide a greater advantage to helping someone feel satiated in their diet and hopefully prevent them from cheating. This is most likely why a lot (not all but many) of professional bodybuilders across all divisions are seen spacing their meals throughout the day. Some live by it and wake up at 4:00 am to get a meal in!

  • Ghee is clarified butter and the producers of clarified butter slap the name Ghee on their product and sell it for a heavy penny, clarified butter is the same as Ghee but one gets more for one’s money, my mother used clarified butter and so do I lol I’m German and I buy 500g clarified butter at Aldi (brand is Milfina = Aldi’s own diary brand) for €4.70 while I pay for 250g of Ghee of the same quality between €8.99-€25.99.   • One thing that’s working pretty well for me rn (I’m trying to gain muscle mass without gaining much fat) has been intermittent fasting. Lets your body spend more time in ketosis so you burn fat without having to go on an especially harsh diet. Usually one really big meal per day does the job, and as long as I include plenty of meat, some fruits and vegetables, and whatever carbs I want it seems to work pretty well. Not super fast gains or anything, but steady.

    It’s worth watching this video 10 times a month and trying to understand even more deeply what you said with your few points than going to 100 different videos and even books I wouldnt recommend for beginners as much as just sticking to exactly what you laid out here.

    Especially the “focusing too much on the details” than on doubling down on the basics (increasing the number of times you train. as well as the intensity over time. and the calories intake per day/week). This in my opinion is already worth more than any other tip out there in my opinion. But it always depends where you are at your journey. for people, already applying this rule consistently, there are other more valuable tips.
    so i would say this video is especially valuable for beginners and a lot of people who already do fitness for a few years.

  • Never been so disappointed in a Delauer video. Not clear on how to add best quality fats. Factory farmed ghee is not a health food. Really high quality olive oil is really expensive and you have to be super aware of not getting an oil that’s mostly canola. Sesame Tahiti messes with women’s hormones?   • A fun thing to do with tahini: Mug cakes and tahini bread. It’s a magical ingredient. Like you can make literal loaves of bread with tahini, egg, baking powder. That’s it. Although I do recommend adding salt, sugar, spices, cinnamonwhatever floats your boat. Cocoa powder, butter and tahini with egg, sweetener, and leavening make an unbelievable chocolate mug cake. It’s my go-to when I get a craving. Now I can feel better about having it.

Also for it it’s cheaperless than a dollar. 1 egg, bit of dijon, vinegar lemon juice and oil. It takes 5 minutes. The best part is you can control the ingredients. Add some lime juice or some monkfruit. Go wild.

  • Thomas you’re good very good. I suddenly became aware that the dramatic increase in my dairy intake (to get to that magical 75% fat ratio for ketosis) was actually causing me health issues. When I first started out on the keto diet not only did I get a load of health benefits such as an increase in energy, mental clarity and my depression going away. I also noticed that my acne and psoriasis were nicely clearing up (probably due to avoiding gluten).

    In fact, I am now acne free, but my psoriasis has now stopped clearing up and I attribute this to my increased dairy intake.
    After viewing certain Youtube doctors such as Dr. Mark Hyman who recommends cutting out all dairy (he does, however, allow for grass-fed butter and organic ghee if you can tolerate it). I now realise that it is dairy that this causing the inflammation in my body which in turn is feeding my psoriasis. So I will be ditching the dairy from now on. This video of yours on fats has put me in a much better understanding of fats and how they relate to the keto diet. Many thanks you are a life saver.

But if you do, what do you think of the Thrive culinary algae oil? It says that it is very high in monounsaturated fat which I read is a good fat for you. I am also wondering if you could use that (a tablespoon for example) in the keto coffee and mix with a frother or blender. I tasted the oil and it is very neutral so I was wondering if you think this would also be a good oil (because of the monounsaturated fats) to use in the keto coffee. Or even just in general…like over a salad, thanks again!

  • I know you say you want to avoid carbs and sugar when breaking your fast, I notice a lot of your smoothies that you break your fast with have some sort of fruit. Is it low enough that it is fine or is there something I missed? Thanks! Love your videos!

    One little add: The mechanism why these fats support weight loss is because they are anti-inflammatory and studies show that increased inflammation leads to fat gain.

  • Thomas: On the subject of Sesame Paste/Tahini….Isnt Sesame loaded with lignans that are Estrogenic?? Isnt Sesamin estrogenic. Hormone distuptiors can kick you out of Ketosis or at lease reduce the amount of BHB you produce.
