I started taking 5htp after starting a journey into psychedelics I read that a mental depression crash could happen from a loss of serotonin from the use of LSD or mushrooms. I started taking this about 2 months ago and it helped everything!   • I’m surprised that Vitamin D isn’t mentioned, as most people have a deficiency, and it’s critical for your immune system (Covid-19 anyone?).
    You get most of your Vitamin D from the sun shining on your skin. The darker your skin, the lower rate at which your body produces it.
    This could explain why darker skinned people are more likely to get infected. Being in quarantine doesn’t help the situation.

  • Once again, old video, sorry. I’ve always been pretty sketch about supplements but I’ll vouch for melatonin. I take Xanax every night for psych issues (legally prescribed, relax), and this makes it harder to enter REM sleep when used long term, and obviously REM sleep is dream sleep when your brain actually gets to recharge. I find 10mg of melatonin a night tends to help me get slightly more restful sleep (though it depends on a multitude of other factors). But it certainly never hurts my sleep, that’s for sure.

  • Antidepressants don’t work well for mild/moderate depression? Makes sense. That’s the type I have and my meds never seemed to do anything.

  • Paroxetine the most prescribed seri had nasty side effects for me.
    The side effects are supossed to become less with time. With me it started the other way around. I did not have side effects in the begining. After 6 months the side effects started and begane worse every month.

    Worst was dullness. And no that was not the depression it was the ssri.
    I had An accounting job and had to let it go. The medication temporarily deleted my skills. Could not put in the right numbers. Many small simple mistakes that ruïnes my work. I had to redo months if work later when I had swithed to Bupropion An SNRI.
    Bupropion did not give me the mental dullness.

  • Correction: some side effects remain as long as you are on the med, and some even stay for months after stopping the meds. But that doesn’t mean one should not seek help!

  • Have tried just about every type of antidepressant. They eventually stop being effective about 4 6 weeks in without a big increase and that brings more side effects, which ruin any positive effect the medication had. So frustrating and has left me feeling hopeless for years that I’d ever get better. I eat well, exercise and meditate already which makes my depression so much more difficult to kick. Hopefully a trial of 5-HTP will give me some life back, as some people have also reported my issue with antidepressants with 5-HTP being the overall solution.

  • As a vegan I took B12 for years. Recently I read studies that b12 without folate can cause braindamage. So I started takeking the active form l-methylfolate (quatrofolic). If I take 1000mükrograms of b12 a day, my skin breaks out. So do you think I can take 800mükrogramms of methyfolate even though I dont take b12 daily?

  • My issue is a lot of these suggestions make you very sleepy which is why I take them at night. What can be taken in the day time that won’t cause me to become sleepy/so relaxed yet I can’t go to sleep because my body feels like it doesn’t wasn’t to go to sleep.     As far as I know the serotonin hypothesis was rejected in the 1980s. There are studies that show that the concentration of serotonin in the synaptic cleft has nothing to do with actually suffering from depression or not. Plus, it’s not connected to its severity, that is very low concentration equals severe depression. In fact, these studies don’t even see that there is such a thing as a „normal“ or average concentration.

  • The problem with antidepressants is that they take too long until they work and that you have to take them for long periods of time.
    Which is completely in line with the commercial interest of the pharma industry.
    I rather eat some shrooms or peyote and git rid of depression in one session and never have to think about taking these drugs again for months than continuously alter my brain chemistry for long periods of time with pharmaceutical drugs, having to endure the side effects and being unable to stop taking them from one day to another.
    Psilocybin, Ayahuasca/DMT and Mescaline might not be the right medicine for everybody, but if they work for somebody, they really work wonders and smoke the pharmaceutical competition in a pipe anyday of the week.

  • Sugar makes me fall off the face of the planet with depression. And caffeine makes me shake, sweat and generally destroys me very quickly. I take L-theanine, and magnesium, but also nutritional yeast (high in b vitamins and other goodies) and spirilina and bees pollen. For the first time in a while I only had the L-theanine today, ate takeaway…and drank a sugary drink. It’s interesting how easy it is to become complacent. The reason that I feel absolutely FLAT never even occurred to me until this just happened to pop up in my feeds.

    The only sugary shit that I buy it some organic musli, which I bought a few packs today. Once that runs out I might eliminate sugar again, as is amazing what eliminating it has done in the past. Just eat a whole lot less, and cut out every ounce of fatting food. Coffee and dry toast for breakfast. An apple, and half a sandwich for lunch, and half the amount you are eating now for supper. You just might lose weight, but I doubt it. So lets say you white knuckle it, and starve your body to the right weight. There is no way in hell you are getting the vitimins you need. Just don’t work that way my friend. Take a multi vitamin and you’ll be okay, just not happy. No one on earth die from taking one multi vitamin a day, so don’t let this fool stop you.

  • Melatonin is a hormone, therefore, it is strongly recommended to not use it for longer than 2 weeks. Cycle off for 4-6 weeks and use again if needed but it shouldn’t be used continuously.

    I am tapering off of Klonopin slowly.
    I sleep only about 4 hours each night…..What can I do to get deep sleep for at least 6 hours a night.??
