This dietary supplement is. Over the years of studying, schooling, and my own 11 year long depression, I’ve found supplements that really work for depression. It’s important that supplements used for depression are of high quality, from reputable manufacturers, and work properly. We’ve heard a lot of encouraging news about supplements. A series of studies hailed vitamin D as a possible defense against a long list of diseases, including cancer, diabetes, depression, and even the common cold. Omega-3 fatty acids have been touted for warding off strokes and other cardiovascular events.

Do they really work, and if so, which ones are best? WebMD turned to some experts for answers about the multibillion-dollar dietary and nutritional supplement industry. The global value of the fish oil market is expected to surpass $4 billion by 2022. Enthusiasts say it can help with age-related macular degeneratio. • Thank you so much for this great video I’m going to start taking St. John’s wort for depression. What other supplement would you recommend taking it with since I’m not sure if my depression is due to low levels of dopamine or serotonin.

  • I know this is an older video but I’d love to comment! I started taking 5htp after starting a journey into psychedelics I read that a mental depression crash could happen from a loss of serotonin from the use of LSD or mushrooms. I started taking this about 2 months ago and it helped everything! I started dieting and excersizing around the the same time and ive lost 17 lbs and didn’t know it helped with weight loss..not sure about how it’s working bc I’m really putting effort into this weight loss.
This 5htp is awesome I’m able to be my self I don’t over think anymore and everyone is noticing it. I have had some stomach upsets and I do take tramadol..theres been vomiting a few times and then I felt fine.

  • Thank you Dr……this is my third week with 5htp and it changed my life….i take 50mg 3 Times a day and my panic is gone…..i could cry for not suffering anymore…i cant fit it in words how thankful i am. Two more question can i take it like forever? Cause i dont really want to Quit…and are Passionflower and ashwagandha contra-indicated to 5htp because i also love the way the calm me down

  • I love your videos and I felt so great when you said that you have anxiety and depression, you have helped me so much I have had anxiety for 20 years and didn’t even know I actually had it from several different other diagnosis’s and I feel that I need niacin too and I’m going to get the B complex too, I’m not taking anything at all so I’m going to take the SAM-E and I’m 49 so I may need that and I have fibromyalgia and arthritis in my entire spine. Degenerative Disc Disease also. I’m now going to view this video again, I feel so connect to you because I have anxiety and depression that is situational depression.

  • Winner of a video, I have been researching “beat anxiety and depression free cd” for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across Hanincoln Nanlivia Framework (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now )? Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my m8 got cool results with it.

  • ALL I KNOW IS THAT PHARMACEUTICALS DON”T WORK! I’m tired of patients coming back to the hospital in two months with the same symptoms.

  • I’m surprised that Vitamin D isn’t mentioned, as most people have a deficiency, and it’s critical for your immune system (Covid-19 anyone?).
You get most of your Vitamin D from the sun shining on your skin. The darker your skin, the lower rate at which your body produces it.
This could explain why darker skinned people are more likely to get infected. Being in quarantine doesn’t help the situation.

  • Once again, old video, sorry. I’ve always been pretty sketch about supplements but I’ll vouch for melatonin. I take Xanax every night for psych issues (legally prescribed, relax), and this makes it harder to enter REM sleep when used long term, and obviously REM sleep is dream sleep when your brain actually gets to recharge. I find 10mg of melatonin a night tends to help me get slightly more restful sleep (though it depends on a multitude of other factors). But it certainly never hurts my sleep, that’s for sure.

  • Madam
I’ve been was so many vitamin and Nootropic supplements for serotonin and dopamine neurotransmitters after antidepressants off, but my problem still on
Now I’m taken Omega3 morning and 100 mg l theanine evening sometimes and 100 mg 5htp at night Is it ok?
Because i think now my serotonin level low i feel anxiety panic depression low energy, insomnia also carbohydrate cravings
if I them take Is it ok? Please advice me madam

  • Paroxetine the most prescribed seri had nasty side effects for me.
The side effects are supossed to become less with time. With me it started the other way around. I did not have side effects in the begining. After 6 months the side effects started and begane worse every month.

Worst was dullness. And no that was not the depression it was the ssri.
I had An accounting job and had to let it go. The medication temporarily deleted my skills. Could not put in the right numbers. Many small simple mistakes that ruïnes my work. I had to redo months if work later when I had swithed to Bupropion An SNRI.
Bupropion did not give me the mental dullness.

  • Correction: some side effects remain as long as you are on the med, and some even stay for months after stopping the meds. But that doesn’t mean one should not seek help!

  • Very informative! Thank you! Please tell me aside from 5HTP what do you think is the best supplement for an uncooperative bipolar patient who refuses to eat healthy?

  • hi doctor Thank you for this information, I’ve been taking st john’s wort supplement for a one month 300mg daily i noticed an improvement in my mood a feel better but my libido was decreased clearly also i addition i encounter ereticle dysfunction, my question is how can i use this supplement or 5htp and avoid this side effect.

  • Have tried just about every type of antidepressant. They eventually stop being effective about 4 6 weeks in without a big increase and that brings more side effects, which ruin any positive effect the medication had. So frustrating and has left me feeling hopeless for years that I’d ever get better. I eat well, exercise and meditate already which makes my depression so much more difficult to kick. Hopefully a trial of 5-HTP will give me some life back, as some people have also reported my issue with antidepressants with 5-HTP being the overall solution.

  • As a vegan I took B12 for years. Recently I read studies that b12 without folate can cause braindamage. So I started takeking the active form l-methylfolate (quatrofolic). If I take 1000mükrograms of b12 a day, my skin breaks out. So do you think I can take 800mükrogramms of methyfolate even though I dont take b12 daily?

  • I have a problem where after taking a 100 mg dose of 5htp I become restless, agitated and I also had a panic attack. Does anyone have any advice on why this happened? did I have too much serotonin in my system? the pill also had 100 mg of gaba by the way if that matters

  • Why everybody here talks about depression. I’ve got anxiety then developed symptoms of depression.
I can tolerate depression but not anxiety.
When I hit by nervous breakdown 2-3 years ago. I never took the same breathe again. Constant 3 years of palpitations.
Please someone tell me that can give me some hope.

  • Do your research regarding supplements and vitamins..there are 2 categories: fat soluble ones and water soluble ones…..the fat soluble ones were stored(any excess of them) in the bodies fat stores..and the water soluble ones, any excess of these are removed from the body through wastes and must be replenished daily. The very best reference you can find to gain all this info is called “The Vitamin Bible” by Dr.Earl Mind all(spelling?) I went on the Atkins diet years ago and it became invaluable to me..

  • I took saint johns worth a long time ago. It sensitizes the skin to the sun. Got burned so bad, that i walked around covered in cream for a week. Its no joke:)

  • After trying multiple tests, i finally found organic and natural solution that has helped me sleep better. I work in the corporate and it is really hectic. For people who were asking me, its from the brand naturekindness .com

  • Thank you doctor
I was diagnosed with with bpad type 2, I have using lithium 450 mg, lurasidone 40mg and quethiapine 50mg since 2 years. I experience decreased sexual drive, decreased orgasm and erectile problems. Is these drugs caused these problems. If so what can I do. Please suggest any supplements or any other non medication measures to improve sexual function and to enjoy marriage life

  • Do you think st wort should treated as strict as maois for tyramine intake? Secondly do you think that I can combine it with methylphenidate? I’m so sri and anything else intolerant. Thank you and appreciate what you do.

  • My issue is a lot of these suggestions make you very sleepy which is why I take them at night. What can be taken in the day time that won’t cause me to become sleepy/so relaxed yet I can’t go to sleep because my body feels like it doesn’t wasn’t to go to sleep. At night I take 50mg of 5htp 200mg of L Theanine 5mg of Melatonin. Like now i just want to take a NAP after my walk and my body seems to not want to. The 5htp makes me burp a lot smh but I do sleep. I feel irritated with things that I normally wouldn’t even care about. I’m open to your suggestions. Why would something that suppose to be so good for you make you feel so sleepy/ relaxed where you can’t even settle down? In the day time.

  • Hey Tracy! Thanks for your videos. Simply love them!

As far as I know the serotonin hypothesis was rejected in the 1980s. There are studies that show that the concentration of serotonin in the synaptic cleft has nothing to do with actually suffering from depression or not. Plus, it’s not connected to its severity, that is very low concentration equals severe depression. In fact, these studies don’t even see that there is such a thing as a „normal“ or average concentration.

What do you make out of that?

    Best, P.

  • The problem with antidepressants is that they take too long until they work and that you have to take them for long periods of time.
Which is completely in line with the commercial interest of the pharma industry.
I rather eat some shrooms or peyote and git rid of depression in one session and never have to think about taking these drugs again for months than continuously alter my brain chemistry for long periods of time with pharmaceutical drugs, having to endure the side effects and being unable to stop taking them from one day to another.
Psilocybin, Ayahuasca/DMT and Mescaline might not be the right medicine for everybody, but if they work for somebody, they really work wonders and smoke the pharmaceutical competition in a pipe anyday of the week.

  • Sugar makes me fall off the face of the planet with depression. And caffeine makes me shake, sweat and generally destroys me very quickly. I take L-theanine, and magnesium, but also nutritional yeast (high in b vitamins and other goodies) and spirilina and bees pollen. For the first time in a while I only had the L-theanine today, ate takeaway…and drank a sugary drink. It’s interesting how easy it is to become complacent. The reason that I feel absolutely FLAT never even occurred to me until this just happened to pop up in my feeds.

The only sugary shit that I buy it some organic musli, which I bought a few packs today. Once that runs out I might eliminate sugar again, as is amazing what eliminating it has done in the past. It’s amazing how hard it is too eliminate, when this tacky consumerist society slips it into pretty much everything.

  • This is glorious, I have been researching “at home therapy for depression” for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across Hanincoln Nanlivia Framework (do a google search )? Ive heard some great things about it and my work buddy got amazing results with it.

  • We like the natural substances for the brain. We think psychiatric drugs do more harm than good. Too many severe side effects.!!. and sometimes neurological damage!

  • hi everyone,if anyone else wants to learn about best natural treatment for depression try Craffanty Depression Stopper Center (just google it )? Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my friend got amazing results with it.

  • All antidepressants did for me is make me feel flat. It was worse than the depression. Oh and 1 more problem I gained weight, 30 pounds in a couple of months. I eat when I am depressed as I have an eating disorder so not good at all. The only thing that has ever helped me was psychotherapy. I have suffered from depression my whole life, still do and really know that I always will but I have learned to live with it and actually thrive with it.

  • Have you gone over all those supplements your taking with your doctor? Just seems like an awful lot of different things you are putting into your body, just seems like a lot for your body to process, especially your liver.

  • some products of 5-HTP like natrol product has slow release effect, it lasts for 10-12 hours and it works like a charm, I use it and it’s lovely

  • Hi, I’m wondering if it’s safe to take this supplement as I’ve heard about of negative side effects about 5HTP I bought some a couple of months ago and only took it for a week then stopped due to what people have said about negative side effects.

  • Doctors don’t specilize human metabolizism. When you’re young, your metabolism is roaring. You are growing, which uses energy, and your smaller frame has more surface area, so you lose heat, which uses energy, and you are sometimes more active. You need more food per pound of body wieght when you are younger, but your mind thinks it needs to eat like that your whole life. After the age of twenty five, or younger, your body is done doing any growing, and such. So after that, you need less food. Also, every single person is either getting fatter, or thinner. The body doesn’t stay a set weight. Every year you age, your body needs less food, calorie wise, but you still nutrients. As most of you might know, you seem to gain weight, regardless of what you do. Honestly, mos of us over eat, but it doesn’t help that each year your body needs, less, and less energy.By the time you reach your mid thirties, you hardly need to eat, unless you are doing hard physical labor nine hours a day. Okay, how many people are their ideal weight? You? really? You big liar. As you grow older, you lose muscle mass, so you need less calories. So, the simple truth is, you barely need to eat. This is the truth. Try it some times on vacation. Wake up, eat a bowl of dry cereal, and plain coffee. Eat a bowl of dry cereal, and a apple for luch. Then have a very light meal for supper. After two weeks you will lose weight, but you will still be over weight. What is the real pain in the ass is, once you stop taking in calories, your body goes, “Holy smack, I’m starving, and it lowers your metabolism. Bummer man. You get low blood sugar, and might start to beat your kids, but you will not go to you ideal weight. Hey, you might say, “Hey dumb ass, I weight the same as I did when I was sixteen.” Yeah, you also so had twice as much muscle mass at sixteen. So your ideal weight would be less then your sixteen year old self, and that’s not counting, you might have been a lard ass at sixteen. Blah, blah, blah, So what’s the deal? Just eat a whole lot less, and cut out every ounce of fatting food. Coffee and dry toast for breakfast. An apple, and half a sandwich for lunch, and half the amount you are eating now for supper. You just might lose weight, but I doubt it. So lets say you white knuckle it, and starve your body to the right weight. There is no way in hell you are getting the vitimins you need. Just don’t work that way my friend. Take a multi vitamin and you’ll be okay, just not happy. No one on earth die from taking one multi vitamin a day, so don’t let this fool stop you.

  • I have been experiencing severe nausea when taking 5HTP. I take raw ginger with it to help It does help only a bit. Any suggestions? thanks!

  • bottom line: don’t get started on these things. i’d rather 100% alert and in pain than be numbed into thinking i am better off taking pills. you’re not better off. feel the pain and deal wirh it.

  • if u make a summer sausage (or any sausage) it helps a bunch to mince up some celery finely into the mix because of its nitrateswhich expand the cell walls, yada yada looks ground beef turns into tasty summer sausageru

  • Melatonin is a hormone, therefore, it is strongly recommended to not use it for longer than 2 weeks. Cycle off for 4-6 weeks and use again if needed but it shouldn’t be used continuously.

  • This is glorious, I’ve been looking for “ways to relieve depression” for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried Hanincoln Nanlivia Framework (do a google search )? Ive heard some awesome things about it and my brother in law got great success with it.

  • Thank you. Doctors got me addicted to Xanax and Klonopin. My insomnia became worse and worse.
I am tapering off of Klonopin slowly.
I sleep only about 4 hours each night…..What can I do to get deep sleep for at least 6 hours a night.??
    Insomnia is my huge problem.

  • Kudos for the Video clip! Excuse me for chiming in, I would love your thoughts. Have you tried Lammywalness Erase Depression Guide (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now)? It is a good one of a kind product for beating depression fast minus the hard work. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my GF after many years got great results with it.

  • I’m aware I’m always sad, numb, hopeless, suicidal, and insomniac, but I still have my life put together though not beautifully. I don’t yet consult a doctor out of fear that the doctor finds me ‘unsuited’ for a diagnosis due to me being fully functioning. Would you recommend I take the nutritional supplements just to see if I can start to feel again? Or is there a very light antidepressant that I can buy OTC?

  • I dealt with major depression but would not have accepted ECT. Nevertheless, there are people who are in agony every minuite of their life.

  • Many thanks, been searching for “ways to deal with depression” for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried Hanincoln Nanlivia Framework (should be on google have a look )? Ive heard some incredible things about it and my neighbour got amazing success with it.

  • I got my blood zinc levels and they say I’m in the healthy range but I have the symptoms of a zinc deficiency, white spots on finger nails, poor sense of taste and smell, I did the drink test and couldn’t taste anything.

  • Gosh he is making me feel agitated, he just goes on and on like he’s racing to catch a train. I’m off lol to someone who slows down! lol

  • i have noticed that i usually need to poop after I take my meds, but that may also be because its usually the first and last drink I take in a day.

  • I HAVE DELAYED SLEEP PHASE SYNDROME! It’s fairly common (many perhaps even most? people with ADHD also have DSPS) but very few people know what it’s called. SO SO SO exciting to hear Hank name and define it here! I hope this helps more people understand their bodies, and how to get the sleep they need to stay healthy!

Edit: also, unless you like wildly vivid nightmares from the bottommost bowels of hell, do not EVER combine melatonin with alcohol.
