However, some people may need to pay extra attention to avoid high protein intake (greater than 2.0g/kg/d) as it may make it more difficult to maintain ketosis.

I’m new to keto and I have the carb manager app and it tells me that broccoli and lettuce is high in carbs so it basically takes up all the carbs I can have in a day.   • Personally, I don’t like gyms. They are so crowded and I can’t do my workout there. I decided to take bodyweight training plan from *Next Level Diet*. Training plan is great and I can do it from home. They also give you diet plan which supports your fitness goals.

  • I realize this video is not a recent video,but it creates a lot of confusion in the community, so let me explain. Traditional wisdom states a Keto diet derives its daily energy from:
    -10% carbs
    -20% proteins
    70% fats
    Conventional definitions put daily carb grams between 20-50 g
    Also people say that to calculate daily proteins take 1.5 1.8 g/kg of lean body mass. In Dr. Berg’s case that equates to 123147 g
    So conservatively, if 20g of carbs represents 10%,then, fat at 70% equates to 140 g of fat.
    Dr. Berg, you claim 30g of fat per meal, as the recommended intake, so if you eat 3 meals per day at 30g per meal you come up with 90g as daily fat consumption and this is an exaggeration, since you promote fasts ranging from 16-20 hours. So two meals or 60 g. of daily fat is more likely the recommendation. However going back to the traditional upper range of 50 g of carbs per day would give you a calculated daily fat requirement at 70% of energy as 350 g.
    So traditional calculations seem to suggest a daily fat requirement between 140 350 g. Now you Dr. Berg are saying that it is between 60g 90 g/day depending if you eat two or three meals daily. This is a significantly huge differential. Why? I did not use the calculations of protein vs. fat to get a different range as it would simply add to the confusion.
    Perhaps Dr. Westman has it pegged, when he suggests nailing down the proteins and carbs which seem to be commonly agreed upon and let the satiety hormones take care of the fats.
    I am not trying to discredit Dr. Berg for any of his work which I think is excellent. My only complaint is the way Dr. Berg stands in front of the blackboard so it is hard for note takers.
    My critique on consistency of number crunching applies to all posters whether it be medical doctors, chiropractors or wanna be’s to come up with a standard consistent set of numbers where the math works.

  • This 6 meals a day eating is the new fad. That’s why we’re the fattest nation in the world and getting fatter and sicker. We didnt eat little snacks growing up in the 60s and 70s. This is the worst advice ever. I eat 5 meals a week…no food on weekends and I’m 53 years old, no medications, 165 pounds and semi muscular.

  • Dr Berg i have read that it is better to start a ketogenic diet using Pufa’s 65% Mufa’s 25%and 10% Saturated fat, because you will get into ketosis quicker. I am just starting out on my journey and i get the Macros 75% fat but how do you get to the actual macros within the fat groups. I’m eating Salmon Drinking Avocado and Olive oil eating macadamia and pecans but i am not getting close to the 65% Pufa’s & Mufa’s. I am also keeping my carbs down to 12 grams per day net.
    I am 60 years old and i am 174lbs, my protein intake is between 105g to 120g which I alternate every other day.

  • A bit confusing to be mixing measurement standards, “Amount” column in tablespoons and ounces (oz) then the “Fat” column in metric (grams). Why not just stick to grams in the first column or at least state the number of grams along with ounces in the first column? I always have to look up how much f.ex. is “3 oz” of beef in grams (gr) that then will result in 16 grams (gr) of fat?

    On a Cream of spinach and ground beef recipe.
    2.5 pounds 70 to 30 ground beef cooked drained. 24 ounces of frozen chopped spinach. Two bricks of Philadelphia cream cheese regular. cooked all mixed together.
    When I put it into my keto tracker just for 6 ounce it says that it’s 62 g of fat

  • Lol, we’ve been on under 20g carb since Jan 01…most days under 18g.

    We use “carb manager” app that helped significantly on weight loss.

    We plan our meals meticulously using this app and cook books found on Amazon. I’m down from 215lbs to 185lbs. Wife down from 134lbs to 129lbs.

    We basically have same food, her bit less than I. She does snack and have breakfast, which I don’t.

    NO EXERCISE AT ALL for us, just eat and lose for now. We have bought new elliptical machine to start working out.

    That was done so that we don’t lose track of weight loss due to muscle weight gain.

    My goal, 165lbs. Her goal 125lbs. Getting close!

  • This is bullshit…I have lost 30lbs in two months eating twice a day.. I didn’t eat anything for 18 hours and I had 2 meals in 6 hours. It did wonders to me. My belly size reduced greatly, my skin started looking young like never before. I am able to concentrate on my work better and yes I do have a cheat day once in a while. I eat whatever I want on that day and I am still able to digest properly. Eating small meals frequently to increase metabolism is a myth! It’s not backed by science.

  • I’m training fitness, eating a small meal every 2nd hour have a really powerful effect on getting bigger but also maintaining a low body fat %, which will make you look ripped. but you need to know how much calories your body needs everyday and split it up to 6-7 meals

  • There is no need to do high/low diet anything your body stores what you deprive. If you go low-fat, and eat a fat, it stores it until it knows that you are regularly eating the needed amount of fat to survive. If you go low-carb, and eat a carb, it stores it until it knows you are regularly eating the needed amounts of carbs to survive.

    Eating a balanced diet of HEALTHY sources of all the macro-nutrients your body requires prevents your body from going into “survival mode” because it knows you are able to survive, and will therefore burn unneeded sources of energy (stored energy, which happens to exist in fat cells and muscle fibres) rather than existing on what you ingest each day.

  • It depends on the hormone you want to affect. If you wAnt to affect your insulin hormone you fast and/ or eat spread out meals. If you want to effect ghrelin then you eat frequent yet very small meals literally 1-2 Tbls. I think in the end we need to stop suffering. We should eat all our hearts desire yet in very small portions.

  • Worked for me when I was a bicycle racer in my 20’s. But each meal was 160-180 calories and I ate whenever I felt like it-sometimes even up to 8-9 times a day. Not because of health, but because I was poor and a small toasted sourdough English muffin and a thin slice of (low quality dark meat) turkey ham amounted to that much. I chose sourdough because it kept me full longer for some reason. It was all I would eat unless traveling to races. Maybe the small amount of calories failed to trigger insulin or I was just young and extremely active.

  • Oil pulling is very beneficial; especially with coconut oil. I started when I was 15; because my dad does it and he’s been doing it for his entire life as well. His teeth look so white and straight; he’s never had issues with his teeth and his teeth look so nice it almost looks fake. Also his breath never stinks O_O

  • I did/ do pulling (now only sometimes) but when I first started I could only do it for a minute or two before having to spit from all the toxins it was pulling out of my body or just my mouth idk…mercury fillings maybe had something to do with it but I do feel like I got rid of lots of toxins.   • As a woman, too much protein means I can more easily get knocked out of ketosis due to some amino acids being turned into glucose during a process called gluconeogenesis. Good protein or not, the goal is to stay in ketosis and I have found that my weight loss I get stalled over this issue.

  • Pasteurized or Unpasteurized? I am lactose intolerant I switched to unpasteurized cheeses and dairy and now I have no problems with bloating or gas.

  • I use to eat 5-6 small healthy meals a day and felt fantastic and I was jacked and then slowly went away from that and ate 2-3 meals and got a gut and felt like shit alot. Small meals is the way to go but you got to be disciplined. Protein source with healthy carb source and some healthy fats. When I ate bigger meals my belly stuck out more.

  • A bit confusing to be mixing measurement standards, “Amount” column in tablespoons and ounces (oz) then the “Fat” column in metric (grams). Why not just stick to grams in the first column or at least state the number of grams along with ounces in the first column? I always have to look up how much f.ex. is “3 oz” of beef in grams (gr) that then will result in 16 grams (gr) of fat?

  • Has anyone noticed that Dr. Berg actually wants us the eat mainly vegetables? I mean. 20-40 grams of fat per day… there is 20 grams of fat in a small avocado. Based on this video, 1 avocado and 1 tbsp of nut butter per day and you’ve maxed your fat. Again and again I see why this is all really pointing to doing ONE meal per day.

  • I realize this video is not a recent video,but it creates a lot of confusion in the community, so let me explain. Traditional wisdom states a Keto diet derives its daily energy from:
    -10% carbs
    -20% proteins
    70% fats
    Conventional definitions put daily carb grams between 20-50 g
    Also people say that to calculate daily proteins take 1.5 1.8 g/kg of lean body mass. In Dr. Berg’s case that equates to 123147 g
    So conservatively, if 20g of carbs represents 10%,then, fat at 70% equates to 140 g of fat.
    Dr. Berg, you claim 30g of fat per meal, as the recommended intake, so if you eat 3 meals per day at 30g per meal you come up with 90g as daily fat consumption and this is an exaggeration, since you promote fasts ranging from 16-20 hours. So two meals or 60 g. of daily fat is more likely the recommendation. However going back to the traditional upper range of 50 g of carbs per day would give you a calculated daily fat requirement at 70% of energy as 350 g.
    So traditional calculations seem to suggest a daily fat requirement between 140 350 g. Now you Dr. Berg are saying that it is between 60g 90 g/day depending if you eat two or three meals daily. This is a significantly huge differential. Why? I did not use the calculations of protein vs. fat to get a different range as it would simply add to the confusion.
    Perhaps Dr. Westman has it pegged, when he suggests nailing down the proteins and carbs which seem to be commonly agreed upon and let the satiety hormones take care of the fats.
    I am not trying to discredit Dr. Berg for any of his work which I think is excellent. My only complaint is the way Dr. Berg stands in front of the blackboard so it is hard for note takers.
    My critique on consistency of number crunching applies to all posters whether it be medical doctors, chiropractors or wanna be’s to come up with a standard consistent set of numbers where the math works.

  • i’ve been having High Blood pressure lately and i’ve been on keto for 6 days. Also palpitations. Any suggestions on what to do? or is this normal? i’ve tried drinking water and salt and more potassium but nothing is working. I am also having back pains.

  • Dr Berg i have read that it is better to start a ketogenic diet using Pufa’s 65% Mufa’s 25%and 10% Saturated fat, because you will get into ketosis quicker. I am just starting out on my journey and i get the Macros 75% fat but how do you get to the actual macros within the fat groups. I’m eating Salmon Drinking Avocado and Olive oil eating macadamia and pecans but i am not getting close to the 65% Pufa’s & Mufa’s. I am also keeping my carbs down to 12 grams per day net.
    I am 60 years old and i am 174lbs, my protein intake is between 105g to 120g which I alternate every other day.
    Thank you so much for all your great videos they have been a great help and helped me to get back into a healthy lifestyle, I’m already feeling a reduction in inflammation.
    If you have some videos I haven’t seen on this subject I’d love to see them.

  • Has anyone noticed that Dr. Berg actually wants us the eat mainly vegetables? I mean. 20-40 grams of fat per day… there is 20 grams of fat in a small avocado. Based on this video, 1 avocado and 1 tbsp of nut butter per day and you’ve maxed your fat. Again and again I see why this is all really pointing to doing ONE meal per day.

  • Pasteurized or Unpasteurized? I am lactose intolerant I switched to unpasteurized cheeses and dairy and now I have no problems with bloating or gas.

  • I’m so overwhelmed �� everyone has different advice. I’ve also heard that if weight loss stalls, you aren’t getting enough fat. I’m 169 and I’m getting about 110 grams fat a day. Is that too much?

  • Intermittent fasting is great if your not insanely active and want to maintain a fit and healthy life style, but if ur an athlete or super active u need to feed the body

  • I just make my coffee extremely fatty or my greentea. If I’m still missing a lot I just drink one and add butter, coconut oil, whipped cream and all that stuff until it’s hella creamy haha. Sometimes I overdo it and it tastes a bit weird but yk whatever gets your fats in xD

  • This does not seem legit. Sure it works kinda sorta over time but why spike your insulin like that? i was at a dinner tonight and got into it a little with my brothers wife. She is a registered nurse and feeds her toddler gummy bears and refined carbs but my opinion doesn’t matter. She said she has lost some weight by eating every 2 hours. She’s not the first one to say this. I suspect whats happening is that you are screwing with your pancreas so much it just says “fuck it'” and stops producing insulin.

  • As a woman, too much protein means I can more easily get knocked out of ketosis due to some amino acids being turned into glucose during a process called gluconeogenesis. Good protein or not, the goal is to stay in ketosis and I have found that my weight loss I get stalled over this issue.

  • I wish I heard about eating healthy fats years ago. It’s so true. We don’t have to be scared of healthy fats. Thanks about the tip about adding fiber. I need to do that. Finished 4 weeks on the keto diet and I have lost 13.6 lbs out of 120 I want to lose.

  • I have a dog named beau he is a springer spaniel He gets bacon grease on his dry dog food and afterwards he will lay on his side for quite a while lickin his nose quite content I also put a couple of cans of sardines mix it with his dry food and poor bacon fat on top when ever he sees me taking bacon out of the frige he does this weird little dance and bounces up and down He used to itch a lot but now the itching has stoped and his fur is shiny so if you have a dog and he’s always. Itching do what I. Do sure beats vet bill

  • Intermittent fasting works too for some people cuz they don’t really starve if they get used to it and get enough calories! whatever works for each person though! personally i don’t starve when i IF

  • Poor doctor! IF is the ideal lifestyle to lose weight. WHen a person’s sugar is dropped when he fasts, that woould an indication of metabolic problem.

  • Okay, okay…do we fast or eat 5 times a day?? How bout it depends on your metabolism and genetics. The thinnest people I know have absolutely no schedule. Conversely, the biggest people I know have ate salads for 10 years.

  • Last nights dinner was roasted chicken that included an entire bulb of garlic. I mashed the cooked garlic into some melted butter along with chopped parsley and drizzled this over the chicken breast….omg….so good!!!

  • Can you have too many fats?
    On a Cream of spinach and ground beef recipe.
    2.5 pounds 70 to 30 ground beef cooked drained. 24 ounces of frozen chopped spinach. Two bricks of Philadelphia cream cheese regular. cooked all mixed together.
    When I put it into my keto tracker just for 6 ounce it says that it’s 62 g of fat
    Is this right

  • Love this video, the biggest thing I learned from starting keto is that I’m way under calories in a general sense. I’ve been working out for a couple months but haven’t lost wait and never thought about what I was eating. From using the keto calculator I realize that I barely hit 800 calories if that a day. No wonder why I’m always tired ��

  • Oil pulling is very beneficial; especially with coconut oil. I started when I was 15; because my dad does it and he’s been doing it for his entire life as well. His teeth look so white and straight; he’s never had issues with his teeth and his teeth look so nice it almost looks fake. Also his breath never stinks O_O

  • Look up Dr Jason Fung; he’ll explain why this is a myth we’ve been sold in recent years which is responsible for insulin resistance, obesity etc. Backs it up with studies. This fellow is pushing old paradigm stuff

  • Late to the 20in20 party, lol. But been doing keto for a cpl weeks using a few of your recipes. No doubt I am too low on total calories. I alternate 8 hour eating windows and OMAD. Added a 44 hr fast this week and finally got my glucose 77 / ketone 1.8 ratio down to below 3 before eating. Might extend it next week. Now to go find you on FB,… Keto connect I presume??

  • Lol, we’ve been on under 20g carb since Jan 01…most days under 18g.

    We use “carb manager” app that helped significantly on weight loss.

    We plan our meals meticulously using this app and cook books found on Amazon. I’m down from 215lbs to 185lbs. Wife down from 134lbs to 129lbs.

    We basically have same food, her bit less than I. She does snack and have breakfast, which I don’t.

    NO EXERCISE AT ALL for us, just eat and lose for now. We have bought new elliptical machine to start working out.

    That was done so that we don’t lose track of weight loss due to muscle weight gain.

    My goal, 165lbs. Her goal 125lbs. Getting close!

  • The problems I’m having is keeping my protein intake lower than my fat intake =/ and once I start eating more fat, I go over my calories for the day lol.. its a struggle.

  • This is bullshit…I have lost 30lbs in two months eating twice a day.. I didn’t eat anything for 18 hours and I had 2 meals in 6 hours. It did wonders to me. My belly size reduced greatly, my skin started looking young like never before. I am able to concentrate on my work better and yes I do have a cheat day once in a while. I eat whatever I want on that day and I am still able to digest properly. Eating small meals frequently to increase metabolism is a myth! It’s not backed by science.

Pictures and videos do help. In terms of noticing how your body has changed. Look at Matt’s arms in this video. Compare them to your newest video, you can tell he has more muscle.   • Personally, I don’t like gyms. They are so crowded and I can’t do my workout there. I decided to take bodyweight training plan from *Next Level Diet*. Training plan is great and I can do it from home. They also give you diet plan which supports your fitness goals.

  • I did/ do pulling (now only sometimes) but when I first started I could only do it for a minute or two before having to spit from all the toxins it was pulling out of my body or just my mouth idk…mercury fillings maybe had something to do with it but I do feel like I got rid of lots of toxins. Maybe not for everyone but good for me. Some say makes your teeth more sensitive

  • When you weigh a piece of raw meat (eg. 200 grams) and then you cook it in a pan, you end up with drippings and want to consume both the meat and all the drippings that same day, are those dripping counted as extra macros that will add more calories and fat to your macros, or not?

  • It depends on the hormone you want to affect. If you wAnt to affect your insulin hormone you fast and/ or eat spread out meals. If you want to effect ghrelin then you eat frequent yet very small meals literally 1-2 Tbls. I think in the end we need to stop suffering. We should eat all our hearts desire yet in very small portions.

  • A great go to meal/snack to get fat up that I’ve found is half a small pot of Greek yoghurt, 60g of Brazil nuts (high in fat) and zero sugar 10cal strawberry jelly, delicious!
