  • I am paraplegic and have buy your book in german languge. When I eat only salat, non starchvegetable and carbs like potaties I lost now 4 kg ( around 8 pound). But for me is heavy to eat much 3 times the day, because I can’t walk and used electric wheelchair.

    Maybe therefore sometime I eat in the evening 3 or 4 pieces chocolate and drink Latte Macchiato with plantbased drink, which have fat. This two thinks are bad…the route is the goal..

  • I have found that lasers have helped my skin so much. I have mild rosacea and if it were not for modern technology, I’d have a face full of broken blood vessels. I think that men often really do not understand how women feel about these issues (Although that is a separate topic from safety). I know there are some risks, but I’d rather take that small risk than live for the rest of my life with “the human condition”. I mean, I drive a car most days, too. Talk about risk to my person, right? And didn’t the human condition also include high infant mortality and infection? I’m just saying that it is not black and white here. I also fasted at True North for seven days last January. I am normal weight and health, but wanted to try it. It was a great experience.

  • I lost 150 pounds being on a plant based diet and I would still cheat ( Vegan Junk food ) but it’s what I do most of the time which is real plant foods without oil. Dr. Lisle made me feel so proud of myself! 1 out of thousand that blew me away! Trust me I’m not perfect and I know the enemy that’s the difference!   • I eat mainly WFPB diet, and as a result dropped from 110 Kg to my current weight of 62 Kg. (dont need or want to loose more. BMI= 21. age 64) I have been that way for 3 years but I occasionally eat a bit of fish or Chicken (maybe once every 3 or 4 months)

    All my respect to Dr Lisle for having the courage to admit the we humans were also designed to eat meat. Most Vegans will not even entertain the thought.

  • At 36:15 Dr. Lisle starts a 25 minute explanation why indefinite abstinence from unhealthy food should not be the goal. The goal should be to do an excellent job, whether that is to do “B” level work, or “A-” work. It should not be to do “A+” work. I’ve listened to well over 100 hours of Dr. Lisle, and this explanation of how Self-Esteem, The Pleasure Trap, and the Ego Trap interact with healthy eating is one of his best.

  • Our instincts want hypercaloric food, but we live in a food desert. Junk food abounds. We are required to fight our instincts to be healthy in this pseudofood environment. This is absurdity but I do it.

  • LOVED THIS, especially about our genetic instinct to eat rich foods for survival, and his 80% goal for whole, natural diet. Many weight-loss coaches suggest just 1 eat-anything “cheat meal” a week, to avoid feeling totally deprived. (That would be 1 out of 21 meals, or 95% whole, natural meals)

  • What I said in an other video: I agree with what you said: do not focus on losing weight, focus on being healthy. And what you’ve shown until now is not healthy physically and, more important, mentally.

    PLEASE, just came here to tell everyone not to follow their advice. PLEASE. As a person who’s living with another family member that has a mental eating disorder, this concerns me. This is a type of advice that triggers bad eating habits:
    just drink water until you don’t feel hungry anymore (even though your body is telling you to fuel yourself with food). WTF?
    “eat healthy, not for pleasure” (EATING HEALTHY CAN BE DELICIOUS!, eating healthy doesn’t mean drinking green juice every morning)
    Being afraid of foods like bread is NOT HEALTHY, because then you feel bad about yourself when you do eat it. And you will, because it’s yummy, and nutritious. EAT BREAD, EAT PASTA, and don’t feel bad or ashamed, unless you want to make the first steps into an eating disorder.
    And please, STOP glamorizing de diet culture and losing weight at all costs. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL IN ALL SIZES and that’s the real meaning behind LOVING YOURSELF. If you want to lose weight that’s okey, but just ask for PROFESSIONAL ADVICE and GUIDANCE.

  • I really like both you & Dr. Lisle but I am very confused. According to Dr. Brooke Goldner author of “Goodbye Lupus” & most recently “Goodbye Autoimmune Disease”, raw food is the most healing & nutritious food on the planet. She says she has many patients who have been WFPB and have been unable to heal completely and reach optimal health. She goes on to say they all share the same 3 things in common: 1) Not enough raw food specifically greens; 2) Not enough omega 3 fatty acids as found in flax & chia seeds; & 3) Not enough water. Once all of these things are increased (in some cases all cooked food is removed) Dr. Goldner has observed healing in her patients. So when I hear Dr. Lisle say raw food is not the healthiest and that cooked food is just as nutritious I’m very confused. This goes against Dr. Goldner’s observations in her patients (and herself as she was once a patient), of which there are many she has helped including some WFPB doctors. I would love to know your thoughts on this. Thank you again Chef AJ for all you do to help people reach their optimum health.

The part about being hyper vigilante nutcase who still has a difficult time with the WFPB way of eating/energizing ourselves and the weight loss issue. I love eating clean, as it were, and yet I notice that even at 183 (at 5’5″) with lots of room to lose, I only lose weight (right now) when I manage portions to be small (think Rice Diet Report/Rice Diet Solution portion sizes). It truly helps to hear that eating in the healthy WFPB appropriate portions are against our innate evolutionary drive. It helps me to stick to this path, even with slow weight loss.

  • Look up intermitent fasting, cut the nuts, limit seeds….don’t eat ick…follow basically Dr. McDougall diet. Cut out salt, sugar, oil, alchohol, most flour. Be vegan take Vit B12, vegan Omega 3s and learn to be a creative cook. The end

  • That’s so interesting what he says about raw food lifestyle and too thin and side effects etc… when I was low-fat starch based (I lived on rice & potato with sides of steamed veggies and raw fruits ) and I was my smallest ever size 0 & Skipped lots of mensural periods. I was a stick. Years later, for digestive issues, I switched over to a raw food diet, no more starches, still low fat & I went up a few sizes (size 4-6) and gained about 10-15 lbs. All raw food, no oils nor nuts/seeds. Also started to have regular mensural cycle. So ����‍♀️

  • All of the women in my family has hippo, so I grew up eating no soy. My parents would put soy as an allergies. When I went to college I strayed off my normal eating habits because I was poor. I gained a lot of weight and fast. I have been experimenting a little. I have noticed that going soy free again does help with the side effects, but I fail sometimes. I lost 6 pounds on the first month of being gluten-free. Thank you for sharing, this is helpful.

  • You had me until you mentioned no added hormones in meat & dairy. All animals naturally have hormones so when you consume animal products you will always get their hormones. Also dairy is full of fat, hormones, blood, puss, feces, & very many unnecessary ingredients. If you switch to a Plant-based milk & cheese you don’t have to worry about any unwanted ingredients. & it’s actually nutritious for you. ��

  • I had hypothyroidism. I did only two things: 1) Gave up dairy and drastically reduced meat intake and 2) drank a concoction of dry coriander seeds soaked overnight in warm water first thing in the morning. Less than 2months later, I no longer have the problem

  • I’m not going to cut out sugar but I have been trying to be more conscious of it. I’ve switched from a 14g sugar protein bar to a 5g one that also has more protein and started buying plain yogurt and adding only a small amount of raw honey same with oatmeal. But you know if I want a cookie I’ll eat one to me its not about cutting all sugar out like some evil thing its about being conscious of it daily so you can have it when you REALLY want and enjoy it instead of in stuff where there’s no need for it.

  • Just curious, I love your work out videos and I’m not trying to be anything at all. Why do you “not believe” in a vegan diet? I understand it might not work for you, especially because some people have healthy concerns, but it is certainly not an unhealthy lifestyle. Many people are vegan because of environmental sustainability as well, not just because they don’t want to eat meat. We simply can not sustain meat in our diets the way we currently are. I encourage you to look up reasons why you should stop eating red meat and dairy, and to get a better understanding of agricultural practices and how they harm the environment, if you don’t already.:)

  • Here’s a lesson on agriculture: there’s literally no “hormone free” meat. Every animal has them and you can’t avoid it. If your paying extra for “hormone free” poultry or pork, then stop, because the FDA prohibits added hormones. Hormones are sometimes added to dairy cows however to stimulate milk production.

  • Coconut oil is actually not good for you to ingest on a daily, it is solid at room temperature and is a saturated fat! Definitely needs to be consumed in small amounts or should be avoided all together. On the other hand, avocado oils and olive oils contain healthy fats!

  • Great video. I cut out all dairy and it seriously contributes to my weight loss and maintenance. Dairy milk has one purpose… make baby cows put on weight and grow fast. Think about it. Organic almond milk is a great alternative and cheese you won’t miss after you give it up for several weeks.

  • Sugar is added to tomato based EVERYTHING for a GOOD reason, they are very acidic so sugar is added to cut the acidic taste, it’s a good chemistry thing. Not just unnecessary sugar. Like adding salt and pepper. It has a purpose.

  • I’ve lost about 50 pounds while tri-aining. For me, the MOST important part has been planning my food out the day before and ACCURATELY weighing and measuring everything I eat. Every. Thing. It’s a royal pain in the rear and it takes a long time at first, but it really gets easier and faster. It’s second nature now, and it honestly feels strange to eat something without weighing it now.

    Also, at a moderate deficit of 500-1000 calories per day, I think it’s more important (and simpler) to be consistent than to bounce up and down in intake. My understanding is that you won’t damage your metabolism unless you severely cut calories down below your BMR. You’ll have to adjust intake as you lose, since when you weigh less, you burn less. But that’s not metabolic damage; that’s just science.:-)

  • I love ur videos, but. You’re not in ur teen anymore. How do you manage to eat 4000 calories and maintain your weight unless you train like an Olympic athlete almost as much as 4 hours of training a day? Also, how do you even eat 4000 calories a day? Do you eat two McDonald combos three times a day?.. That itself seems like a workout for me. Plus, unless someone is addicted to food, why would you even count the calories and eat that much lol? Are you still growing by any chance? This whole ” you need to eat around 3500 calories a day” in order to lose or maintain your weight thing is totally wrong. Biologically speaking, we’re not meant to eat a set amount of calories everyday. Were meant to eat when we are hungry, and I highly doubt that staying active whether through swimming or biking (unless you spend the whole day doing these) will make you eat 4000 calories ”everyday”. Plus, everyone processes certain nutrients differently than others. It’s not just about the quality of nutrients. Some people might gain 5 lbs of fat from eating 30 slices of bread some people might gain 2 lbs. People have different food sensitivities to certain food.

  • My friends all follow the “fetching tuti space” (Google it) and they have shed between 9 and 16 pounds each so far. After hearing about their results, I decided to research this plan on google for myself, and I lost pounds myself as soon as I started following the “fetching tuti space”.

  • For those of us that work just eat fruit in the day and a cooked meal at night. Make sure the cooked meal contains lots of greens and cauliflower. Bananas are a great filler for you if you are hungry. I stuff my face with bananas and am carbed up to the hilt. I have lost 62 pounds in 3 months with very little exercise and am never hungry. Don’t count your calories, make your calories count. Don’t eat white foods except for cauliflower. that means no sugar, white rice, bread, eggs and dairy. Remember fruits and berries are natures candy/sweets.

    DO NOT FAST! FOOD IS FUEL. Once you realise that your taste buds are secondary and your well being is primary then you can make the step. Do not starve yourself as your body will go into survival mode and store fat. Drink more fluids, sleep a little more and the weight will drop off you.

  • One thing I have found when training hard is that my weight spikes from time to time due to my body making repairs to my muscles, etc. I find when my muscles are sore, my weight spikes for a few days then drops back down. From my research, I figured out it was due to all the stuff my body creates to repair the microtears in my muscles. (My bad memory means I can’t remember what exactly that stuff is.) I try to drink a lot of water to flush out as many toxins as I can and I usually see a weight drop after my muscles stop hurting. I was thinking maybe you could look into this and do a video about it? Sometimes it gets really frustrating for people to work out hard and see the scale go up in response. Don’t give up, it will go back down!

  • So much misinformation about how fat loss works. It’s about insulin and nutrients. Calories in vs calories out is overly simplified. It’s a lot more. Fix the nutrition, and pay attention to the actual micro nutrients. Shitty foods don’t provide enough nutrition which leave you hungry, shitty foods contain too much sugar or chemicals that may be low in calories, but trigger hunger hormones.
    Use time restricted eating, and cut the simple carbs like bread and sugars. Allow the body time to rest and recover and that includes the endocrine system. Complex carbs are actually good such as steel cut oatmeal and a well timed banana or other whole fruit with a protein following a hard on long workout..
    I lost 65 lbs 225-158 lbs in 5 months last year. Maintaining at 165 ish but with more strength now. Yes, power takes a hit for awhile, but it comes back even better. I am 54 and going back 4 years of power data, other that my 5 second peak power, best 1 min to 2 hour best power have been in the last 2 months. FTP is 15% higher than it was exactly a year ago.
    Look up insulin resistance and go from there.

  • Great video… I don’t count calories and probably eat more calories than I need but my body fat is less than 10%. If you only focus on calories then you can put yourself into an unhealthy nutritional deficit. Eliminate sugars, processed foods, and sugary drinks like juice, soda, and alcohol. Instead eat a lot of vegetables and healthy fats and you can never count calories again. Also, note that you also need to eat a lot of calories when you exercise/train a lot to make sure you don’t deplete your adrenal system.

  • I’m finding the nutrition thing harder than the training. I have switched to oatmeal with nuts and fruit for breakfast. At least I’m not hungry one hour afterwards anymore. Got lunch to tackle next……
    I also find that I drink way less beer when I train. It’s weird. I just don’t feel like drinking.

  • i’ve never done CrossFit but i like their food pyramid: eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, few starches, no sugar. my hunger goes down when i do it. just reducing refined/processed carbs and eating whole/natural foods makes a big difference.

  • Hi Taren, just out of curiosity. What’s your height? You’d mentioned that your “resting” weight is approximately 160 lbs and you’ve gotten down to 152 for races. I’m 5’9″ and I’m usually around 167 to 170, but I feel like 155-160 might be more appropriate. However, it’s super hard for me to get down to that weight and stay there.

    So I’m wondering how tall you are, because if we’re the same height, then that’s probably where I should be as well (obviously).

  • started this year atb190lb and down to 170lb now. Used the lose it app to track food and exercise. With the triathlon training I find that if I want to eat some chocolate or have a beer then I just do a bit of a longer bike or run. doesn’t feel like dieting then.

  • Great video! A free app called MyFitnessPal really helped me start losing weight. I was able to easily set my goal weight, track all the food I ate, and see where I needed to cut back. It also let me input exercise, save meals I ate frequently, and track my macros later on. I was also able to track my weight loss and see how far I’d gotten. If you like the numbers side or just need an easy way to figure out how much you should be eating, I would highly recommend it. I mainly used it because I didn’t know what a good amount of food was to reach my goals.

  • You didn’t mention anything about the fact that when you workout (especially if you are just starting out) you might gain some weight from building new muscle. I actually found that my weight stayed pretty much the same over 4 months of training, but my legs became like rocks and my arms gradually got more firm as I upped my swim training. I was doing a phase 2 south beach diet until my nutrition needs from working out so much required me to start eating more carbs.

  • I dropped 50 lbs two years ago and with that extra energy it caused, I took up triathlon. It was a life changing time period. For me, I needed a big catalyst. I went from gross to fat. So shocking the system was exactly what I needed. I lost about 1lb/day for the first 30 days and the remaining 20 lbs came over 45 days.

  • Hey mate! Firstly, I really like your videoit’s got a different twist on it but is simplistic and above all, enjoyable to watch and motivating. However, I disagree with the whole calorific calculator thing. Apps like MyFitnessPal are really good, I won’t lie, as they are a highly accountable and easy way to track what’s going in vs what’s going out (especially linked with Training Peaks). Online calculators though I don’t think should be a go-to, merely because for every single person weight loss will be different, varying on things like age, activity levels/intensitys/durations, work, stresses and environments, just to name a few. I beleive the best way for HEALTHY weight loss is by taking a controlled and disciplined approach to eating, and by trial and error figuring out what works and what doesn’t for your body and activity levels. It takes time, and isn’t the best short term approach, but in the long run I find it works really well. I used this approach and now the whole “controlled eating” thing doesn’t feel like a task!

  • I’m not sure about how much weight i actually lost but i do know that i lost it. 2 years ago outta the blue i started to do a little work out and the next thing i knew i was whering jeans that i couldn’t get over my thoughs and i still rocking those jeans. Now this year i notice i lost more weight because the boxer shorts i love to lounge around the house in we’re literally falling of me.   • ALL carbs turn to sugar which increases insulin and basically turns the sugar into fat, no matter what time of day you eat them. Also, everyone’s metabolism is different. For someone who is insulin resistant, they would need to cut carbs until their body gets into ketosis and resets. One thing they have right is the resistant starch when cold. But, one diet does not fit all here.

  • I’m mad, not because of what you are saying about your experience, which is totally fine if you’re happy with that kind of lifestyle. I’m mad because you say some things that are triggering for more than half of your subscribers and viewers and as an influencer you should be more careful and gentle with other people’s health before giving advice, as you’re not a registered dietitian. You should be sharing only your personal experience.
    I think that it’s wrong to tell people on a platform as big as youtube, that friends are not friends for encouraging them to enjoy their food, I get your point but imagine another situation. Tell a 14 year old who’s insecure with her/his body and might be experiencing early sings of an eating disorder, to cut out their friends because they want them have food with them. They might be cutting out on food because people like you who are making them feel like being thin or “socially acceptable” is the only way to live, or at least yours. Tell your 14 year old to not eat a piece of bread or a pasta dish or remember when somebody told you that. It really hurts. It’s so irresponsable as an actress in movies as you might be the reference to many teenagers. Please stop sharing this type of content on which you give advice to people, just keep in mind that your viewers might not be mentally healthy which it’s mas important as physical health.
    I know that your intention was good and you’re sharing what worked for you and you think could work for other people but be mindful about the current social situation.

  • watts/kg means nothing on the flats on the bike. your drag coefficient/watts dictates speed on the flat while watts/kg does when it’s not flat. the gradient dictates the importance of watts/kg, and speed does for watts/drag.

So I was able to read thru the comments with their tips, also im going to try chloe ting and there was so much that they mentioned that I think would be beneficial.   • Do you have a yard to rake or the yard to pretend to rake? Do that every other day for 1 month spending 2 and 3 hours outside and dragging the pine straw to the edge of the road will snatch your waist. Even took all the fat off of my back.

  • I started strength training (without dieting but eating right) and lost my baby weight too. Cardio I gave up on because you would lose weight without looking toned. Strength training gave me weight lost and toned body. I did one day only of cardio.

  • I’ve been doing everything you just said for six years now my doctor told me to do all of that the only thing I did was sell my treadmill I didn’t need it I realized I will continue to walk back-and-forth in my living room & these mean street of NYC I do not & will not drive I walk everywhere no elevator or escalator walk up & down stairs I weigh less now than I did when I first started my weight loss journey six years ago I was 200Lb & within a year I lost 50LB 6 years later it’s 2020���� I’m 5’8 122 at 45 years old only drink water never liked alcohol juice or soda that artificial taste always gross me out so that never been a problem I don’t eat after 10PM 9pm Snack or decaffeinated coffee I don’t really have a sweet tooth unless I have my monthly and the only thing I don’t eat is red meat loads of bread candy and chips
