In honor of the NFL season being well underway, here’s a workout you can do the next time you’re at your Snap Fitness. Channel your inner JJ Watt for the deadlifts, Jamaal Charles for the balance touch, and Megatron for the bench press. Be sure to stretch both before and after this workout.   • The bulgarian split squat elevated on two boxes is fancy, but not specific to a movement pattern performed on the field. It will essentially train the same thing as a squat. It will build general strength, yes unilaterally, but not real specific to a particular movement pattern on the field. For sprinting if you really want to add load and stay specific why not just do sprints pulling a sled behind? Lineman should do sprints pushing a sled. Strength training in the weight room for athletes is pretty general. Sport specific movements are trained on the field. The vertical movement straight up with the back leaning forward is not like sprinting. He is moving vertical. He is better of just doing step ups or running stairs with weighted vest if desired. Also running up an incline is better than this. This is way more specific to sprinting movement pattern from the starting position. Bo Jackson claims in college the only exercise he did in the gym was neck strengthening exercises. He said lifting weights made him too bulky and slowed him down. You even said the performance in the gym has little bearing on performance on the field.

But instead of cheering him on because he’s already in shape B your own cheerleader an all the inspiration you’ll ever need is that person staring back at you in the mirror u can’t lie to that person or hide from him or her… But u can be inspired EVERYDAY even if it’s. baby steps to improvement because some steps are than no steps at all ya dig!!

  • If you are training for speed then using bands to increase the resistance as you overcome the initial force will only slow you down. It will not increase speed. It is counter productive. Power training is about exerting a large amount of force in as short amount of time as possible. Speed training is best when the load remains the same. If you keep increasing the load each set you will not increase speed. You may increase power. Band training can be useful for overspeed training to return back to the starting position of the exercise in order to do more reps quicker. Athletes should train for specificity. This is not specific to a wide receiver who is trying avoid or outrun a defender. A lineman will encounter resistance when he explodes of the line so his training is different.

  • Normally im having 2 leg day/week: quads and hamstrings/glutes. Mostly strength training. So, yesterday decided to mix it up and try this workout.     I have a sport-specific request for a topic: endurance athletes. I’m primarily a cyclist, but do a few longer-distance running events too (marathon-type stuff). I’m particularly interested in trying to get stronger as a cycling sprinter so I can get better performance at criterium races in 2020. I don’t want to gain too much weight, though, because every pound I gain is another pound I have to drag up a hill with me, so I fight to stay around 5’11” and 160lbs. It would be real cool if you could touch on the topic in a video sometime: explosive leg workouts tailored more for a person who keeps lean, low-weight musculature.

  • Listen I did this workout yesterday and didnt stretch afterwards like I know I should. Now my glutes are soooo tight I have alot of pain in my lower back is rediculous. Doing periodic stretches atm which is slowly helping. Be sure to stretch thoroughly afterwards guys lol

  • That was intense. This vid also goes to show that looks ain’t everything. Obi may look like hercules but barely survived this explosive nfl workout which targets the body in a different way by emphasizing explosive strength, reactive quickness, agility, coordination, and power which entirely recruits type 2 fast-twitch fibers in the body. Athlete build is really something else and true beast power comes from within all athletes such as football and basketball players. The coach was amazing and Obi did his utmost best to do everything he could. Great work!!
