  • I made it into my 50’s doing my thing…… it would be great if you had some tips and advise on training into one’s 50’s and beyond…… I find your short sessions like the 23 minute and the body weight particularly your burpee challenges 12 reps on and the rest of that minute to recover over 10 minutes sustainable and far more rewarding keeping me flexible and strong. There are greater benefits to training with weights by lightening the weights and training in a fasted state early in the morning really pushes me along. Best discovery in my 40 year journey was in 2012 when I discovered your channel…….. amazing benefits followed…. Jeff your advise is second to none.

I was 33, I had recently got my hip replaced and would need the other done, I got told I was prediabetic and should think about my sugar intake if I could. I decided to go further than that so joined a gym. I then started getting crook with what would turn out to be multiple sclerosis. My trainer worried because I lost all my balance and fell over doing pushups and had to always crawl my way up the wall to stand up after a floor exercise. We pressed on though (under medical advise) and now at 35 I have lost 40kg, I’m down to 22% body fat and feeling healthier than EVER before! More chronically ill, but I ain’t quittin! You’re so right Seamus, ANYONE can do it!!!

If their feet turn over perfectly and their heel hits their glutes when they run, they don’t know what to tell a person who has bad form. They never had to fix their form if it was naturally perfect.   • The bro science in this annoys me ������ I would be classified as an ‘endomorph’. I do pack on the far more than skinner people BUT I have a higher muscle mass. I’m strong AF even when bigger. There is a thing called skinny fat, and thankfully while I may pack on some pounds (especially after a kid), I don’t have any visceral fat which is the most unhealthy thing. It’s really hard with society sometimes, because they always see the one type and go from there. I’m not overweight looking per se. But because I have boobs and ass and hips, I am? It’s annoying.

  • Thank you for always making the best videos that are most informative. I am in need of help but lacking the drive and self motivation to be consistent. I am so discouraged for many reasons. Reasons that are private and personal that I won’t put here. I am now 263 pounds and my weight has been a struggle all my life. Now I am a diabetic and taking insulin has made weight loss harder. My dear is that I will die and not achieve my weight loss goals especially due to finances now. When the finances go everything else follows. Lol. Sorry for putting this here but who else will listen. Keep doing what you do it’s helping some of us out here just lacking the support and encouragement.

  • If your fitness goals centre on someone else (whether you want to impress them, intimidate them, or assure them), your path will always be harder than if you put yourself first and push yourself for you.
    As a guy, I obsessed over how attractive women found me.
    But if your primary goal isn’t to feel better first, you’re going to fail.
    You run a mile in ten minutes and feel like shit and regretful, or do you run it in nine and want to be better?
    Do you lift huge weights to look stronger, or to BE stronger?
    If I get a six pack after cutting sugar, excess fat, and simple carbs, great.
    It’s a nice side effect.
    If I can push my core workout an extra 5 minutes and sleep better, that’s important to me.
    I don’t want us to think that Jeff’s lessons are purely superficial, that it’s all just looking better, but a group of men and women committed to BEING better.

  • What’s our excuse? Uhm what about going to work every single day so we can provide for our family’s, doing household chores, stay in touch with friends etc. Basically we barely got any time left. And yes i know if you really want to achieve your goal it’s still possible with the little time there is (just gotta make sacrifices) but what I’m trying to say is that these prisoners have nothing but time so it’s imo easier to achieve their goal.

  • So, if you can’t steal food from other inmates you can’t build nothing cause the calories are not enough for bulking. At least you won’t become bigger. Your muscles will adapt to the stimulus you offer doing pushups, pullups, crunches etc, thus you will become physically stronger but your overall muscle mass will not impove.
    Moral: Stay out of prison unless you are already jacked before you go in there.

  • It’s easy to lose a pound a week, especially when you’re 40 pounds overweight. Being 40 has nothing to do with it. Track your meals, get a good measure of your bodyfat %, figure out how many pounds of fat that means you have, multiply the pounds of fat by 31 calories per day and you’ve got a solid idea of how many calories per day you can cut without losing significant muscle mass and you’ll lose fat faster than this guy did, doesn’t matter what your age is.

You are strong… in reality, I am fat. Your channel has helped me (same with EDDF) find the truth in fitness. Putting into practice what you teach, and keeping my head aligned by watching EDDF is going to get me to where I need to be. Fitter, faster and stronger in my mid 40’s to continue doing what I love (mountain biking) but being safer. Still working on the details of exercise timing, diet and ensuring I have the wattage for my weekend rides, but at least I have a dose of reality with the 2 truthful fitness channels. Thank you

    This is so true. I tried working out 5 different times. When I was 16 for a month, when I was 18 for a year, and so on. I never noticed any results.

    It was frustrating. The years went by and I didn’t get closer to the body I wanted. But I always came back to researching, studying what I needed to improve on. Nutrition? Rest? Intensity?

    Then when I was 24, I tried working out for the fifth time. And because I stuck with it, and gave a shit, stayed consistent, I finally noticed some change. And some people around me started commenting on my body.

    It was the first time I tried calisthenics too. All the other four times I tried getting muscle, I was in a gym. And I hated it.

    During this quarantine, the main reason I get up every morning is to get stronger. My goals are higher than ever. I keep failing, learning, improving and getting stronger.

    Let’s be honest too. I can’t wait for the pandemic to end so I can show off the body I’m gonna build during these solitary months. I wanna impress the fuck out of everyone who hasn’t seen me in a while.

  • Making significant changes is so psychological. Forget the knowledge of nutrition, exercise, cardio, etc. It all starts with the right mindset and you getting ready to really accept a lifestyle change, taking ownership of YOU, breaking bad habits, and no BS excuses You can hire the knowledge when the time is right (trainers, nutritionists, yoga instructors, etc.).

  • I can also only strongly recommend to get used to train with “light” weights at higher age…or even sooner. I always loved pushing myself to the limit and setting new PRs with higher and higher weights. When I came close to 40 I could already feel that if I’d continue this way of training I’d pay the price soon.
    Now I train with only like 30-40% of the weight I used to and increased intensity through reps, volume etc. I also found out that even though everyone told me it wouldn’t work 5-6 days a week of a full body pump workout works best for me. And it is an awesome feeling to leave the gym with every muscle pumped up and without any sore/painful joints anymore.:D

  • Folks I’m 46, and its no harder for me to get in shape than it was when I was 26. I don’t understand the hype about 40 being some point of no return.
    Some people just don’t have the drive. They didn’t have it when they were young, and they won’t have it when they’re older.

  • If I would do this EXTREMELY light training for 1 year and being more than a decade younger, I would probably gain no muscle at all.

  • I was the overly skinny lad in school and got bullied a lot for it so when i moved out from home I was happy to become fat very fast getting addicted to sodas and chips real fast… At 19 I was already so fat that i could hardly walk my dog without acid buildups in my legs and back and shoulders.. At 25 I started getting infections in my shoulder sacks and since then I have been struggling with mental issues and only in the last two years i managed to through hard work and healthy eating, still doing 2-4 liter coke a day, to lose little over 80 pounds of fat…Today i am skinny again though abit more muscular and manly i struggled putting on muscle… I thank you alot athlean-x, you are by far my favorite inspirational and informational channel right now.. In only 2 months I have put on 4 pounds of lean muscle mass in the right places, i no longer have “bitch tits”, got a flat and muscular chest, shoulders and veins popping in both my forearms and biceps.. Now i only need to work harder on my other side of the biceps as i do look pretty scrawny yet. But again, ty! I also run alot other then my calisthenics and my legs are absolutely shredded. Hope to get my upper body to catch up prior to 40. I am atm 36 years old. This 40 year olds story was great, Seamus much respect to you to. Great work!

  • It’s not an air squat, it’s just a damn squat. Do you “air” squat when squatting on the ground? No? Do people walk around with a barbell making a barbell squat just a squat? NO? Jesus christ people quit trying to rename shit.

  • Raise your butt and legs straight off the ground as your laying down they lower it as slow as you can until you get to about 1 inch from the ground without touching the ground then raise legs/butt back up as fast as you can then repeat.. as you get more advanced as your lowered down have a second person push down on your leg while your prevent yourself from touching the ground then raise it back up as fast as you can and repeat.. you will get insanely ripped and defined abs that way especially the lower abs which tends to be the hardest part of the abdominals to define.

Of course you own those genes if you pass them on, but I think it works in a way that there are “active” genes in your dna which build you and those that are just in your dna doing nothing. I meant you don’t need to own “active” fighting genes (meaning you are not a fighter, period) to pass on fighting genes.

  • Can’t get ripped if your skin has stretched from weight gain. Unfortunately it doesn’t unstretch. Surgery can remove excess but it has its own set of side effects.

  • I think one reason why they get swole is because they can sleep and get proper rest for their muscles to grow. Also yes they can work out as much as they want. I have to got to work everyday so I can’t deviate that much time to workout. If I could take 3 naps a feat and a full night of rest and just workout in between then I would grow much faster.

  • Only my third video I’ve watched. I love bringing awareness to great calisthenics workouts. Being in the military it’s important to know that you can build your body anyplace anytime. That means there’s no excuse. Weights are good too,but not necessary.

    However, after this vid, I think it’s just as important to address blatant narcissism, as it’s such a common tendency yet so destructive on both an individual and societal level.

    And these guys are narcissists. I suspected by the shirts off flexing and shit, but confirmed by the leg workouts.

    I’m not bragging, as I’ve never considered myself even close to physically elite. But id do single leg pistol squats for sets of 20 easy.

Let me split the science, if you building you will build and what we all builds on gym, is them damn muscles. Since what you building is muscles, then it shows up by bulky in size. I mean you can’t say you building without an increase in size as evidence of increase in muscle deposition on your damn body. So, if you remain small, then you not building but, keeping fit. If you didn’t gat them fats when you started and you didn’t build, it’s fitness you ve done. If there was fat and its gone while your shreds shows but no extra size in body muscle mass, that’s fat burn and keeping fit. You don’t need a gym to shredd, fat burns shows them shreds. So, when you says you shredding then you are to meant muscle built while maintaining a shred. That’s is the actual shredding. Shredding is a continuous process while shreds is just what’s just there to see. If you muscle building but your fat level is also adding as well, that is called bulking. If you not muscle building but your fat level is adding, that is them damn fattening. You guys not shredding cos I ain’t seeing extra muscle mass unless, as I don’t know you before probably you were very skinny until now, then that’s shredding. But, i bet, you both this size before. No shredding buddies.

    ectomorph is the opposite,you need to do a refill to maintain the fat and muscular level
    meso morph are the half way of it

  • From what i know, Joe I
    is right:
    Ecto: doesn’t get fat, has hard time gaining fat, generally tall with long limbs and good resistance.
    Meso: gets muscles easily, have wide shoulders.
    Endo: gets fat easily.
    At least for men i think It works this way. Regardless, no one Is 100% Meso, Echto or Endo, we are all a mixture of those three to a certain degree. Anyone can get a good physic, people who tend to be at the extremes of the spectrum, Endo and especially Ehto, will have a hard time getting it. The method to build muscles is pretty much the same, somatotypes determine just your potential and how hard will it be to get results.

  • This will NOT work for most people wanting to copy this. Not because it’s wrong but because you won’t be able to adapt it to your current level without some knowledge. I am skinny and I’m getting shredded with far less than those movements inclined pulls, flat knee tucks, inclined pushes and so on. It’s not even about the movement but about taking in slightly less Kcal than maintenance (200-300kcal) and moving a lot (on the endurance side vs training for hypertrophy); you can eat normal if you do a lot of volume that’s why endurance athletes eat 30-40% more than your average persona and they’re shredded.

    For a person to do those movements it takes a certain level of strength. For that you can follow classic calisthenics like Convict Conditioning going through the progressions (google that up, you got 2-3 books in pdf, progressions diagrams, videos and so on 6 movements for the whole body, stick with 4 until you’re half way then add shoulders and back because you’ll need strong arms for that). You will not be able to train for endurance with these movements IF you don’t have the strength already.

    The emphasis is on endurance vs strength the opposite spectrum of strength training, high reps, volume. This is what every trainer will do, including guys like Steve Zim who did some of the superhero actors body transformations. You could do rollerbladng or soccer drills every day for 30-60min and still get skinny shredded (lean).

    So the takeaway is that the methods is what matters, not some specific movements. They are super-setting sets, going high rep, and probably eating around maintenance or under with high protein like 1g/lbs from actual food not powders totally doable both on plants and animal protein (on plant you got seitan, legumes including tofu, grains and so on seitan is almost pure protein like chicken breast or beef and you can make your own for cheap).

  • These comments make me weak. Unless you’ve been doing this for a while (8-10+ years and do know how to body works), you can without a doubt achieve a body like this. I have done with this friends in the past. All you need is a solid diet (macros/micro custom made to the client), custom made strength training program that causes them to work on the key muscle groups that help create the “Adonis ratio/Golden ratio” while incorporating hiit cardio here and there to really intense up the heat. Doing this for a short period of time works. This is just advice though. You would need to contact and go over all of this with your physician or primary doctor before doing any of this

  • The Somatotypes; Ectomorph, Mesomorph and Endomorph are not classified as biological body types, they came from pictures being taken of students showing their postures in the 1940’s and then a psychologist named William Sheldon wanted to use these photos for his own research. William had a theory that certain body types and personalities were linked, which has been proven to be a load of bollocks.

    If people get brainwashed into thinking “Oh I’m an Ectomorph so I won’t be able to grow a lot of muscle” what is that going to do for their morale? I’m sure pharmaceutical companies love it as these low morale people are their ‘potential customers’, throwing money away to buy these drink powders which aren’t even needed.

    The freaky thing is that people in the past have been killed from genocide due to having ‘apparent negative genetics’. William Sheldon’s work was linked to that from the Nazi’s.

    Anyone can grow a decent amount of muscle just from training, food, water and sleep. Powders and all that crap are not needed. Yeah okay some people are much more bigger in muscle, but let’s face it, they take PED’s or gifted more than the many average.

  • I’m 50 years of age and I have accomplished the look and level of fitness that Stallone had in the 80’s and 90’s in the last year. I owe most of this to my OMAD diet and of course the hard work that I put in at the gym and the park bars but I would be remiss if I left Jeff out of the conversation, he has kept me safe and healthy with his tips on safety and proper form but he has pushed me as well to go the distance, to stop my mind from being my worst enemy and go too FAILER.
