How to actually enjoy exercise 1. Pick an activity you enjoy. If you don’t like exercise and your idea of exercise is jogging on a treadmill, flip your 2. Mix things up. Even after you find something you enjoy, switch up your routine from time to time.

Not only will your 3. Crank up the beats. Pumping iron and running aren’t the only ways to exercise and enjoy the health benefits from exercising. #6 Short Workouts are Okay If you don’t have the time or the motivation for an hour-long sweat fest, just go for a shorter workout. Regular exercise also can decrease anxiety, chronic illnesses, and prevent depression. Working out also releases endorphins, our bodies’ stress-fighters, leaving us feeling happier, research suggests.

In other words, working out can actually feel AMAZING, and it can even be fun. Learning how to make exercise fun can be a crucial moment in. Did you know that women who exercise to stave off stress, have more energy, and to feel better are more likely to exercise than those who sweat it out to lose weight?

Focus on the other benefits of exercise and you might find that getting leaner is a happy side-effect. A fun way to actually enjoy exercise is to reframe your mindset. If lifting heavy weights in a gym or running several miles is not your idea of fun, try to find other, outside-the-box ways to move.

Jump on the trampoline with your kids, climb trees, or ride your bike to the market. If you make a date to catch up with friends (while you happen to be walking), the exercise will happen while you’re doing something else you enjoy. Other ways to exercise “accidentally” might include a dance class with your partner or weekly excursions to explore new parts of the city on your bike. How to actually enjoy exercise. It doesn’t have to be a punishment In fact, you could even… wait for it… Working out to a favorite song, pushing through the workouts, working out with my bestie [and] doing mini challenges in my mind [helps me enjoy exercise]. Also, you can’t beat the gratifying feeling of crushing a workout or a sweat-soaked T-shirt! GYM_RAT13 I love my Apple Watch. To get the maximum health benefit from your workouts—to lose weight or stave off long-term problems such as heart disease and Type 2 Diabetes—most exercise physiologists say. Identify and choose exercises you’ll enjoy.

Some people imagine a gym when they think of exercise, or perhaps jogging around the park. If you enjoy those things, then go for it. If not, then find something that you will enjoy.

The reason exercise feels boring is because we tell ourselves we have to run, or do pushups, or take a spinning class, when we don’t enjoy any of those things.

These two reasons alone demonstrate why it’s easy to find other things to do instead of exercise; you’d rather spend your limited free time doing something you enjoy instead of something that feels awkward or uncomfortable.

  • she can workout 8 hours a day that’s fine but she needs to eat a shit ton more calories to maintain weight and not become anorexic

  • I can’t feel my face when I’m with you! But i love it! Im so sorry Scola i just had to lol. I love dancing and learning hard choreographies for my cardio. I don’t realise im exercising till im sweating like crazy 30 minutes later

  • Just subscribed to Yoga with Adriene. I’ve been wanting to start doing yoga but I’ve also made up soooooo many excuses to not do it.
I think I’m just gonna look for a beginner’s video, and do it right after this video ends. i feel so motivated now

  • HAHHAHAH omg I’m so sorry but I couldn’t stop laughing after that caption! Still, good video! The fact that you even tried to do it shows a lot of dedication. Keep it up!

  • You don’t look weird xD tbh you look like you just got lip fillers because people’s lips usually get a bit inflamed after them (Kylie Jenner look lol)

  • I found out that I really like nature and hikes, so to work out, I go to central park every day and walk all the way back home (which is really far from central park). It’s a really good workout, and I never notice how tired I am until I get to my apartment building and have to walk the steps to my apartment.

  • Yeah performing an exersice that you hate, really isn’t working. I got a fitness subscribtion, because, everybody who goes to the gym looks fabulous. First, that’s not even true haha, and second, I didn’t want to leave my house to go exercise. So when I found these at home (pilates) workout s on youtube, I found the right exercise of me!:)

  • I’ve always wanted to take ice/figure skating lessons but always thought it was something you had to get into at a younger age but found out that a ice rink does adult lessons and am so excited to start them soon!

  • Can’t still believe that i got cured from Genital Herpes through herbal treatment from Dr david who I met through the internet, I actually couldn’t believe it at first because it sounded impossible to me knowing how far I have gone just to get rid of it. Dr david send me his medicine which I took as instructed and here I am living a happy life once again, a big thanks to Dr david, I am sure there are many herbal doctors out there but Dr david did it for me, contact him [email protected] com or also whats app him +2347042992115

  • try this just for you were doing it for 8 hours try with 7 hours after a while with 6 hours then continue reducing the time i think its gonna help for it cant be an abrupt stop all the best

  • 1.Schedule exercise
2.Show up (Like an appointment/Make it a priority)
    3.Do your best
    4.Be proud of yourself
5.Make sure you are moving every 2 to 3 days

  • I’ve always wanted to work out but I don’t need to loose weight…I would like to gain some weight and stay healthy. But I have no idea where to start…I bought a bike a month ago and I want to start riding more and get back into yoga and maybe some weight lifting

  • your comments on the screen really cracked me up:’D I feel really bad for laughing so hard at it but we all have that weird experience once n our lives so….still sorry. lots of love <3

  • I was a gymnast for the majority of my life, and we definitely purged. I associated exercise outside of practice with losing weight, too, and did not find my own exercise I enjoyed until college!

I love rock climbing and dancing now.:)

  • I relate to this so much!!! Once I discovered a love for resistance training, making it a part of my routine became SO easy and now working out is hands down my favourite time of the day

  • I died as soon as the video started playing “Hi it’s Scola… with a stiff upper lip” lmao omg anywho love your videos. I love that you still uploaded today because I was waiting for this vid. Love your personality. I just love you! ^_^

  • I love yoga simply for how accessible and versatile it is! I’m so glad more people are finding it as a way of being active, but also for benefiting mental health.

  • I always see exercise as a chore or almost punishment for eating the cookies, I’ve never thought about it as a time to catch up on a podcast or listen to a new album, I love audiobooks too and could put any of those on while doing a short yoga workout. It’s so strange that I make time for everything else in my life including returning that stupid rice cooker that didn’t work but not unrolling my mat and doing yoga for a half hour. I continue to appreciate how much I learn from people both older and in this case younger than me, thanks for giving me some new ways to think about exercise.

  • Boho Beautiful is my favorite YouTube yogi. because she posts classes that cater to what you’re in the mood for/ they all have a central theme and always follow through

  • Unpopular statement: Yoga makes me extremely dizzy. Even the easy going motions of going from one move to another. Please tell me I’m not the only one or maybe if anyone has some tips to help with that please let me know.:)

  • Oh my gosh thank you so much for still filming this video! You are a trooper! That saidthis was funny as crap & motivational! Feel better hon’!

  • Omg, loving that someone else knows about Yoga with Adriene. The ultimate hidden gem. The tex-Zen goddess herself.
Lady, self-love and sustainable brands love this vibe, love your work

  • I’ve always wanted to be a runner but because of how big my boobs are the back pain is just too much stress to be able to run for a long time.

  • Wow I’m less than 5 mins in and what you’ve said on reframing my mindset has blown my mind

I’m going to try and view exercise as more of a treat for my body and as an experience as opposed to something to tick off the weekly to do ty Arden

  • Okay, but why did you have to drag me for having the exact same mindset where working out was punishment for not looking a certain way at the beginning of this??? But really, this helped a lot as another woman in her 20s who is still trying to make working out something genuinely enjoy because it helps with mental space

  • I recently started working out again after spraining my ankle a year and a half ago. Before the sprain, I loved running, had gotten my mile time down really low, and was super proud of myself. The sprain kind of made me lose the stride I had going. Now I’ve been getting into yoga this past month (with Adriene, actually), and want to start running again but I want to make sure my ankle is strong enough. I’m realizing it’s mostly a mental block because I’m scared of hurting my ankle, but it’s healed enough that it’s time to start building up its strength again.

  • Yeah!! I needed to see this video, I have been thinking about this for so long. I have dived into yoga and love what I am learning as far as that goes, but I have been wanting more. I want to see more muscle and tone but it makes me anxious to go lift weights in a gym. Here’s to me figuring out my own formula in what works for me. Thanks so much for sharing your perspective.

  • I love that you feel comfortable enough on your own channel and with your fans to stick your fingers in your nose while talking. Like… Get me on that level, you are YouTube goals Inspiring vid btw. I’ve been wanting this kind of topic from you FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You should try swimming!! I made lap swimming my new years resolution in 2018 and I love love love it. So meditative and fun, and you feel powerful as heck in your swimsuit after a good swim!

  • I just don’t think I’m the kind of person who will ever be a “gym rat” lol. I grew up running cross country and track, hiking, biking. But, I never went to the gym and used an elliptical or lifted 5 pound weights. I don’t think there is a problem with either side of exercise, but I too have an unhealthy idea that if I’ve not got a gym membership then I’m not ACTUALLY working out. Find what’s enjoyable for you that also gets you active. I think that’s all our bodies are begging us to do.

  • I quit dancing, netball, basketball, swimming and badminton clubs when I hit my teens and I regret all of them and now I’m too scared to join clubs because I feel too old and people younger than me will be better

  • Okay I was already considering getting back into working out but this video legit convinced me to actually do it!
Also yess LOVE yoga with Adrienne UGH

  • lol weight training also means pushing yourself mentally. just because it didn’t feel that way for you doesn’t mean it doesn’t mean something different to someone else

  • could you make a video on how to stay away from sugar? i looove all things sweet and i know im eating too much sugar but its so hard to get over it especially when im upset:( k really want to stop because its stopping me from losing weight and get off of pre diabetic medecine. if you see this i love you btw

  • Awww, Scola! Thanks so much for making us a video despite your pain. It shows how dedicated you are to what you to. Stay awesome!!!

  • you! are so inspiring and amazing, and it just took you under 15 minutes to verbalize everything about working out that I’ve wished I had the clarity to think through for years but could never quite get across to myself. The whole idea of reframing working out by taking “fitness” out of the equation in favor of the immediate reward of enjoying and rewarding yourself through physicality is such a simple and beautiful way to break down something so toxic.

  • I’ve dated a workout chick like this. She definitely had the barbie doll appearance, partially due to implants. But every curve on her was just hard muscle underneath. She could potentially literally crush someone with her legs like that girl in Goldeneye. She had an a lot of pride that was just wrapped up in her appearance and didn’t take any responsibility to her multiple mistakes such as getting pregnant young, broken marriage, car crashes, etc.

  • I’ve suffered from a serious exercise addiction since I was 15 years old. I’m now 34 and I’m still a slave to it. It was really bad when I was 16. I exercised for exactly 18 hours a day…. everyday. In the first few months it was new and exciting, however it grew to be a chore. I came up with my own name for it “exercise bulimia”.

  • you spoke to my soul thank you arden. side note: I AM ALMOST FROM ARKANSAS IT’S WACK TO THINK THIS SUPER AWESOME GIRL IS FROM THE LITTLE ROCK AREA IT BLOWS MY MIND IF ARDEN CAN DO IT I CAN TOO

  • i loooove running outside but live in London where 70% of the time the weather is so crap like today ugh, so i deffo need to find something else i enjoy as much…

  • Hy Scola, do you have some tips to gain weight?? My metabolism is to high. Can I reduce my metabolism or change my metabolism?? Help! Kiss from Belgium!

  • Finally someone who shares a common perspective on exercising! The way we perceive exercise is key to making a healthy lifestyle sustainable! A goal orientated view of exercise always makes me dread exercise and make it feel like work. Still trying to understand what bring joy to me, and how it can be achieved through workouts!

  • i was running today and thought about how working out or doing sports was never a punishment for me and how grateful i am for that. i love doing sports and always go for the fun element. thinking about it now sports is the only thing i do because it’s fun and will also switch around when it no longer is, which is something i need to cooperate into other parts of my life. after a depression period and not working out for a while i got back into it by challenging myself with yoga (bless you adrien you helped so much). then when that went well i was feeling more confident again and low and behold a new challenge came to me. i was going to run a 1/4 marathon (10.5km) i only had 9 weeks to train and it was hard but it really pushed me when i finished it was such a relieve and proud moment. thanks for this video it has me thinking:)

  • i want to ask to see if anyone knows. what muscles does roller blading work? i know it does your legs but dies it do your core or what? just asking because i love roller blading and i find it really fun:)))

  • Really liked the video, Arden! Resonated a lot with my thoughts/attitudes. I also started climbing because of these reasons you mentioned. Unfortunately I have difficulties getting into yoga practice since I am not flexible AT ALL and that’s why I give up so easily:/…. would love to see more videos about bouldering (your routine, warm up or sth) or yoga!:)

  • I’m literally only 10 seconds into the video but as soon as I saw you talk I burst into laughter… Man, you’re my favourite. I’m sorry lol

  • this video was so great!!!!!! I have very recently started jogging with a couch to 5k programme after a very long hiatus from running. in my teens I used alcohol in a similar way to control my body, and any positives i got from exercising was obscured by that unhealthy end goal. for the last couple of years i’ve done no physical exercise, which was a really important step for me in stabilising my mental health: stopping my unhealthy behaviours and allowing me space to do exactly what i wanted in the moment and build intuitive eating habits was what i needed. now i’m in a stronger place mentally, i’m returning to exercise so i can move my body and connect more with myself outside of my head. there’s things over the past few years like boxing and weights that i’ve loved and have made me feel POWERFUL (which i think is a fantastic focus) and i can’t wait to resume those:) thanks for making this video xxx

  • I’ve always wanted to try rock climbing, it’s just not very accessible for me since I’m still in high school and don’t have much money or my own car

  • Arden I love you! You truly inspire me to find my own power and motivate myself for better!! I know I have the ability to get through anything, ahhh I love you! <3

  • Post! A! Climbing! Video! If! You! Haven’t! Already! I! Wanna! See! You! Climb! In! A! Non-! Creepy! Way! (I’m currently at the 7 month mark from when I started and want some tips or somethin’!)

  • I love your videos Zach so much, you have really helped me to stay focused on the goals that I have for myself. I started working out about 3 years ago but for the first 6 months I would always be bouncing back and forth from different personal trainers on YouTube but could never really find the right one for me and would see very little results but as soon I found out about your Channel I immediately feel in love and started to see results fast. Thanks so much for allowing me to find out about your channel because it truly has been a life changer.

  • This video is so fantastic and sparked maybe the only thought I’ve given to trying to exercise again. Since coming from a very similar toxic place with exercise, recovering from an ED in my late teens, I pretty much just stopped, even though I’ve been out of those woods for 4 years now. These are great tips and the way you talk about it is so real and compelling. Thank you!

  • For anyone who has a really hard time working out, know that on a traditional 9-5 schedule, it’s much harder to maintain an exercise regime. Your most productive, inspired hours are spent at work. Don’t beat yourself up about it. Take the time to contextualize working out within your day and mindset.

  • i literally dont understand how i haven’t seen a single one of your videos until now???? i love ur energy u give me big smiles:)))

  • I neeeed to know where these earrings are from, so gorgeous. I also neeeed to take this great advice and get my body moving again. It’s been a hot minute!

  • Do a yoga video! I’ve been wanting to get into it and it would be really neat if u did a catalogue of ur fav poses and such. Or a routine???? Dope.

  • Such a good video Arden! You really encapsulate why it is that I’ve been dreading and putting off working out… and while sometimes fun in the beginning it starts feeling like a chore again somehow along the line. Insightful (:

  • I want to roller skate. It’s always seemed like such a fun way to exercise and I would feel super cute skating around in my lil high waisted shorts and knee pads. Plus there’s the element of roller derby. Roller derby girls have always seemed to exude peak badass energy to me plus they ignite my hella bi-bess but ya know. So there, I want to roller skate. I am putting it out into the universe! Thanks Arden!

  • Pathetic people are everywhere….. Child abuse is something by which a person suffers through out life…..I can understand… even a small incident affects you all life. Some end up being fat some very addictive for exercise like you….but we girls are very strong.i found balance and you can find balance too. Much love… Plz don’t let it affect you anymore

  • This is the most useful and healthy “health and fitness journey” video u have ever watched. It was really changed my mindset for the better. Thank you so much! ❤️

  • didn’t look at your lip until that text showed up, you still look great tho! and i did athletics some years ago and it was pretty much fun and your legs are gonna look even better

  • you are so motivating and full of energy…just watching your videos gives me energy and motivation!! do more of these type of videos please:)

  • Here I am and wondering how am I not exercising at all and she over doing it. If it was some thing you can distribute she ould have done that already. Wosh her peace of mind so that aje xan do other things too like relaxing and chilling those free hours instead of working out all those hours.

  • I appreciate you making this video even though you are in pain. You’re very focus and honestly just a beautiful person (on the inside and on the outside). Lots of love from Brazil xxxo

  • Hy Scola, do you have some tips to gain weight?? My metabolism is to high. Can I reduce my metabolism or change my metabolism?? Help! Kiss from Belgium!

  • Why is our society plagued with so much deep, deep mental illness?  Too much time on your hands?  No self worth?  Yep!…that and more…all endorse, encouraged and promoted by all forms of media.  Part of the PC culture.

  • This video is fine but exercise addiction is a real thing and often part of an eating disorder so maybe please consider changing this video’s title. I know you don’t want to/don’t try to promote unhealthy behaviors so this is just a heads up!

  • Me and my friends do climbing (outside) and it is so fun. But I found myself really hurting my self-esteem doing it because all my friends are so strong and active and they love sports and I don’t. So when I did a 5A (V2) and didn’t finish it when everyone else did it made me feel like shit. But I really like climbing, I love the outing and activity and I need to learn to not compare myself to others because they’ve been working out all their life. I also really love yoga, I feel like yoga, as well as dance, are two workouts that make me feel so good and so empowered after. <3

  • Great points! I hate running and the monotony of a gym routine but I recently started doing ballet 3 times a week and not only is it a great work out, it’s fun and really mentally stimulating. You have to be really focused so it’s a great way to get away from the stresses of daily life.

  • Poledancing is so much fun!:) I realized only a few weeks ago how fun it can be, and now I quit crossfit to join pole classes, oops

  • It’s weird, my friends consider me to be a healthy person because I don’t really eat junk food or fast food and I’m not over or under weight, but when I’m going up some stairs or usually 7 minutes in to working out, I can feel my heart pounding in my chest and I’m out of breath. I think having the stamina to workout for at least 30 minutes and to be able to run for the first in my life (I’ve always gotten cramps or out of breath) would make me feel powerful.:)

  • You doing this video even though your probably in pain has motivates me even more, guess that’s why you call it motivation monday!
    Sorry, I couldn’t help myself!
