Instead, make tiny, incremental adjustments until they are part of your.

Goals can help set our direction, but our systems are what ensures that we continue to keep up our habits. This is exactly why mornings are such a big deal. The whole morning period is a container for a system that allows us to get a lot done, have some “me-time”, and feel good about how we start our day. How to Turn Goals Into Habits It’s a pretty simple process, but let’s go over it step-by-step: 1. Your goal should be written out very clearly. The better you can visualize your goal, the easier this will be.

2. Think about the steps needed to get to your goal. There may be many. 3. Here’s how to use smaller habits to help you start achieving your goals, no matter what they are. U.S.

Do at least one thing every day that makes you feel good. Listen to. 2. Taking control of your habits is the only way to take control of your life. Self-control is a great skill to master but few have succeeded in that. There is, however, a simpler way to take back control of your behavior, time, health, and everything else that you can control.

That can happen by changing your habits. It’s also risky. Not the goal itself.

Usually, it is something that, on its own, is pretty easy. The risk is in being consistent over the prescribed period of time. It’s also time-keyed.

But unlike an achievement goal where you merely have a deadline—for instance, finish my book by March 1—your habit goals and steps need four time-key.

  • I agree Gary if you launched a kids version of at least your YouTube channels it would impact all of the youngsters tremendously and make them smarter, tougher, and nicer/empathetic. Do it up

  • 5:42 6:12 see right there! Hope everyone caught it, that right there was the essence of what a counter punch looks like! Gary’s ability to listen to his audience and react to it is amazing. Dont know if Gary was joking about the YouTube kid channel, im just amazed at how fast he responded to the text. #ExecutionIsSpeed

  • Great videos you are posting. Trying to make the conversion to paper from digital is not easy but I’m seeing lots of benefits. QUESTION: Do you use any digital tools (apps or websites) for tasks, notes or are you 100% paper? Also, how do you handle the unplanned tasks that people throw at you or when your driving and you remember you need to do something. You can’t easily write those down, so what is your system for remembering them? Thank you.

  • Lol I just started doing this for my summer class! 20 on 5 of and then spending those 5 minutes tidying or cleaning my room which was a mess. It truly works because it builds in the mental break your mind needs to avoid wandering. Personally I also have a notebook on hand for those random thoughts I want to pursue once my 20min of study time is up

  • One book I have found to be very good at explaining the kaizen strategy/philosophy is this one:
One Small Step Can Change Your Life: The Kaizen Way by Robert Maurer Ph.D.

The author breaks things down like this:
    1 Ask small questions
    2 Think small thoughts
    3 Take small actions
    4 Solve small problems
    5 Bestow small rewards
    6 Identify small moments

It’s a very practical book and I have found it to be very helpful in my own life.

  • Yes!!! My 6 yr old knows who you are but same, too much cursing ‍♀️ and I can’t let her watch your content. Pls DO make a kids channel…she’s gonna love it, I already know.

  • I have a list of 14 things I must do everyday. (Eg meditate, journal, walk, take diabetes meds, talk to a family member/friend, listen to a song) and on my desk calender i rate everyday out of 14. This way I have the inspiration to hit the maximum possible targets.

Also if there are a few days where I just don’t feel like doing a lot of these activities, I can take solace in the fact that I have been consistent for the past few weeks (say) so I don’t have to be too harsh on me.

I am planning to incorporate this as a line chart on my BuJo. And/or can also colour the dates on my calendar based on these ratings.

  • You gotta engage with each member of your audience. Well said.

I just started a new podcast for creative minded individuals hosted by fellow creatives… and we’re six episodes in. You best believe every time I see a new comment, I go out of my way to say hey. It’s not hard. Great advice and work ethic type episode right here Gary!

  • This is a real mind-changing video and message. You are so right that I can feel so overwhelmed by the things I want to do and the guilt for not doing them. But if I think about each goal I want to do, whether it be teaching my children the Bible, or reading a book, or doing push ups, or running, or journaling…I can write down for myself like you did the smallest step forward so that I feel silly for not doing them. Of course I can do 10 pushups or I can read a page, I can teach for 5 minutes, and I can run around the block. Of course I have time for that! Thanks for the motivation!

  • Gary, its truly awesome that your starting a kids channel. That’s really life and game-changing. Your fan-base will change and you’ll have more people doing shit. like you said earlier that 90% of your viewers don’t do anything or word hard. Kids are very quick to get things, adults take time to dwell and change their point of views. Nice Job

  • Thank you YT recommended. As we enter the dawn of 2020, my goal is steadfast. I have a crystal clear goal with a ten year outlook ahead to develop my body to the fittest and muscular point it can be. I have become militant in my eating habits to cut out the evils of processed sugar and unessential fats. I started the year around 20% body fat and I’m now down to 14%.

This grew from a desire to be better physically and mentally for my 18 month old son who I haven’t seen for over half a year. I want my son to one day be proud of his dad for what he has achieved. Me & the ex are back on talking terms and I may be able to see him in the future but I have no idea when. All I know is that the gym is a marriage that never cheats on you. The gym will never let me down, see someone behind my back or hurt me. Dedication, motivation, commitment, knowledge, trust and consistency are key in success drivers in this field.

  • The first thing I would like to work on that is how I am passing my time in what type of work, am I doing what I should do or just doing gossip or unproductive work..

  • I’ve been putting off cleaning the office for over 5 years because it felt overwhelming. I would do very little and it felt like it was never ending so I’d quit. I wanted to have a functional work space, but buying a drawing table and my bf, wanting a new office desk made me motivated enough to start the cleaning process once and for all last month. We bought the office desk and I am proud to say that, after a month of chipping small bits after small bits at it, I finally finished cleaning yesterday.:) It may seem insignificant to most people, but I am very proud of myself and the hard work I put on to accomplish this! It took a whole lot of motivation videos and will power, but I’m now motivated to accomplish even more stuff! Consistency is key and long term goals.

  • Thank you for this! New subscriber here. One of the small habits that i picked up that has helped tremendously is: Let your last step in a process set you up for success. I heard it originally on the Happier Podcast. A simple example is: You brush your teeth with the last bit of toothpaste. Rather than wait until the morning to have to dig up a fresh tube of toothpaste and unwrap it, etc. just do it when you run out so that it is off your to-do list and doesn’t impede your morning routine. Same for the washing out the coffee pot, charging your laptop, or putting your keys at your landing strip. These are little acts that can have big impact in setting yourself up for success so that your forward motion isn’t slowed down by little tasks. I apply this to my work as well so that the next time I sit down to work on a task or project, I’m doing as little set up as possible and I can dive into the work as soon as I’m ready to go. This is anywhere from having my desk cleared, supplies stocked, to having relevant files and source material at the ready.

  • I just found you 4-6 weeks ago and am enjoying your content.
I’m familiar with the Kaizen process from an Agile Software perspective and one of the things I’m trying to do in my personal life is do weekly retrospectives where I look at the past week and ask myself “what worked,” “what didn’t work” and “how can I improve.”

  • With my coursework, it has been a case of 30-45 minutes, then 15 minutes of tea/coffee, dog walking, toilet, stretches, lunch, dinner. The same works for piano.

  • Great content Chuck as always!! As I have followed you through the years you have spoken volumes into this life of mine. I have been putting your lessons into play. Thanks again for giving the blueprint!

  • i don’t have the time to read all the books on this but this channel gives me all the key wisdom and principles in a short but clear visual way, ty so much for these vids, great content!

  • I totally agree with the first part of what she said.. I find it so hard to focus sometimes…. let’s see if this method helps me in any ways

  • Great Point! Even though someone may be having slow progress towards our goals, that is never a reason to stop. It is actually the times where we feel like we’re not making any progress where we’re actually on the brink of massive Improvement.

  • I feel that, To day is my birthday like swamiji gave new birth to my mind I will sure crack 21 day challenge and change my life

  • Just found your channel and also just found out about Bullet Journaling. Using September as a crash course to prepare to kick it into gear for Q4 of 2019, then onto 2020. Thanks for easy bite sized videos.

  • My gosh… who wouldn’t just love to be the paint on Gary’s brainstorming walls! For the love of Pete what an experience of a lifetime that would be. Lol but serious.

  • Gary definitely launch a kids channel. I have four boys growing up, and always tell them about you, but can’t let him watch the content because of the explicit language. I think you can capture millions of kids attention at a very early age and prevent them from facing many potential challenges of today. That would help and guide them in the right direction. Kids are busy watching YouTube, so give them Vayner content.

  • Thanks a lot for the inspiration. I am now on a quest on creating more content. Soo, I’m adding a Youtube channel to the mix and will go heavier on the rest as well. Thanks again!

  • Yeah I set a habits page for every month in my bullet journal and even though I don’t do it all the time. I notice that I have been doing it a lot more than I did previously. So safe to say it is changing my life for the better!!!

  • Just like you said… little steps… they are the key to sustaining long term change in behavior… I love the process of checking a box where I have a task to do.

  • Chuck, I won a small $1000.00 lottery ticket. My sister had been crying earlier about nothing going her way and was laid off. I told her if she cashed my ticket, as I was flying back to work in another province, I’d give her $250 of it. she agreed and left. I felt quite bad and thought, I don’t need the money and called her back and told her to just keep the entire amount. BEST Feeling ever! You are so right. Giving is way better than receiving! I miss the corvette vids too!!

  • Just like every other human.. I have some ideas etc… but Idk how to be aplha, in the sense that I’m always scared of leaving and starting something of my own.. I know it’ll be worth it and I really really want to wake up everyday and do my 100%… how do I stop being such a pus and do’s just a lil weird.

  • Great video, Matt! Best wishes for 2019. Keep cranking out the helpful content! Totally agree: BABY STEPS! Just start. And keep going.

  • Wonderful. As a struggling artist and aspiring game developer, studying hard and often being disappointed by the amount of progresss I make, this touched me, nearly made me cry and gave me strenght back.

  • Great video. I’m a digital technologies teacher in Australia and I use Khan Academy to teach my middle school students SQL. Great course with videos and activities.

  • I’ve subscribed to your daily journal triggers. It’s really exciting! I’ve always loved writing but could never got myself to continue… Your mail motivates me to write because I don’t have to wonder what on earth would I write TODAY! I look forward to the day’s trigger every day. Thanks Matt!

  • Hey Chuckles! Great advice and video once again! I to have always wanted to be able to retire sooner rather than later. I’m less than 5 years away from achieving that goal. I still go to work every day because I love my job and the money is pretty good too. You’re absolutely right about that feeling of financial freedom! It’s great! Stay safe my friend!

  • The thumbnail made me cringe . I have started bullet journaling a few months ago but I don’t keep up with it as I would like to. I need to make it habit.

  • This method makes you read haphazardly.
When you try to reach a particular time when reading, you tend to move fast and forward neglecting mistakes you’ve made while reading and not going back to re-read in order to clarify somethings or neglecting the principle of repetition of key points so they can stick into your head.

  • so great, thank you! My micro habit is one plank pose a day, and I’m up to 45 seconds on that. I’ve been wanting to start a reading journal that includes title, author, summary, concepts w. sketches etc…but it feels like too much. Going to start small and just put the title, author and one new concept. The theme for me this year is being more informed.

  • In the past I would work out at home and watch Daily Vee 3-5 days per week. For the last few months I switched to a workout outside of my home. So I have not watched a Daily Vee in a long time. I watched this one today and realized how much I missed the little insights that come from these. Good stuff Gary! Thank you

  • What are the goals? This reminds me of my career, where I hustled my ass off without a specific purpose and then was in the right place at the right time with the right skills accomplished things I would not have envisioned at the start and then was happy with what came next. I am now retired. I have been learning and honing my skills without a definite goal. Perhaps it will happen again? That is the best feeling. On the other hand, there is something to be said with the acceptance that comes with getting older. It is surprising, but surveys in surveys of old people, they are often happy “just because.”

I feel like the market is flooded with “coaches” who have made zero money doing anything other than teaching other wannabe “coaches” how to coach. It feels like a pyramid scheme. I am skeptical and thank you for saying it too.

  • Namaskaran Gurdev Ji! This was wonderful start towards learning and experience about Indian Spiritual Science concept (I would rather happy to say “Spiritual Science Engineering” ). I had been looking something like this for last many years to kick start my Spiritual journey however, could not find the best way to start from point A and was in very confusion state but I think that these 21 days Life Transformation challenge would be my good start towards this. Along with this, I am now going to start reading Bhagwat Geeta.

I would love to start writing my diary from today onward and my vision is to first gain in-depth knowledge about Indian Spiritual Science wherein my main focus would be to explore on how one can achieve the path of “State of Mind” through Meditation and what are the best tools through which we can make our life more peaceful and happy.
