6 Essential Oils You Should Add to Your Wellness Routine. Lifestyle. 2019-02-15 | By: Snap Fitness Essential oils are great and natural way to take your health and wellness routine to the next level. Whether you’re feeling stressed, tired, or sore, there is an oil for that. We’ve broken down how essential oils work and what we keep on. Using Essential oils as healing agents dates back to ancient Egyptian, Roman, and Greek cultures.

Natural oils have a stigma, but optimum health is a universal desire, so why miss out on their positive effects on your health? Consider rounding out your wellness routine with essential oils. Here are six excellent essential oils to add to your home medicine chest: Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) This is one of the few essential oils that can be used “neat,” meaning applied directly to the skin without diluting. Tea tree can benefit nearly every skin condition, including skin cancer. Having a supply on hand of essential oils suited for everyday life can change your perspective, your outlook and encourage you to live a life focused on mood and wellness.

We all experience moments where we are under the weather, lacking energ. Remember to put your safety first. It’s a smart idea to test a small area of skin with your essential oil of choice before using it all over. It’s also wise to mention to your doctor that you are looking to add essential oils into your beauty routine. 3. 3-Year Time Limit.

In general, your essential oils should last for about three years. I have over 20 different types of Doterra essential oils but my favorites are Lavender, Frankincense, Peppermint, On Guard, and Lemon. I also like to use this Modern Essential Oils Book. They offer different types of oil blends for different types of illnesses, aches and pains, as well as therapeutic needs. People swoon over Lavender essential oil—and for good reason.

Our top-selling oil is a standout in many Young Living products, including Lavender Calming Bath Bombs, Lavender Lip Balm, and Lavender Foaming Hand Soap. While this oil plays a supporting role in many YL favorites, it also shines as a solo artist with its soft, welcoming aroma. Diffuse your essential oils. Diffusers are reasonably priced and often come with essential oils to start you off. Use essential oils during massage.

Use 10-15 drops in a carrier oil (like olive oil or jojoba oil). Check with the manufacturer to be sure the oil you want to use is safe for topical use. Some essential oils can be applied topically. If used correctly, essential oils offer a great host of benefits; they’re a great way to treat a myriad of ailments, enhance your mood, and they’re a great secret weapon to add to your skin and hair care routine. In addition to being incredibly versatile in use, they are easy to find and because they are heavily concentrated, a little goes.

At the doTERRA You Convention in 2017, Dr. Hill discussed his personal essential oil routine. For the Daily Health Habits Challenge, we ask you to follow his protocol, and make changes as best fits your lifestyle and health needs.

  • My baby boy will be one in 2 days. (I still can’t believe it)
When I was pregnant I craved smells instead of food! I loved clean smells. Like lemon and pinesol, and tea tree oil.
Once I started nesting I was mopping the floors twice a day just for the smell of fabuloso alone
Congrats Sam, I feel like I’ve been watching you forever and I’m so happy for you.
You’re going to be an incredible mother

  • I appreciate this video so much!!!
I am now doing the routine with my daughters!
Please tell me how you achieve your eyelash luck. I love the accent of the lashes. The distribution is perfect

  • This is exactly what my hair needs. The picture of what your hair used to look like is exactly what my frizzy curly hair currently looks like. Thanks so much!

  • You know “Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade” is just a term trademarked by DoTerra, right? It’s not an actual certification, it doesn’t mean anything. “Essential oils” are therapeutic. This is a lot of DoTerra marketing nonsense. It’s cool if you use essential oils for aromatherapy or for topical use, but stay away from Doterra’s claims. It really takes the credibility of this video (and your channel) down.

(Aside from the marketing claims, MLMs are grossly predatory. Considering you’re all about the wellness journey and helping people, I’d think you’d have the best interests of others at heart.)

  • There are some essential oils that you can ingest and I have been loving putting peppermint oil in my water! Also Doterras Peppermint Beadlets work amazing with any stomach problems!

  • Congratulations. Careful with foot massages as some areas of the foot could possibly stimulate contractions. Best to ask your provider and a prenatal massage therapist.

  • Please be careful with essential oils! In the first trimester they can bring on miscarriage, in the third trimester they can cause premature labor.

  • Thanks, Natashaif only I had this great info decades ago, when I had hair like your ‘before’ pics crispy crunchy parched hair was my STYLE

  • I have super straight and very oily hair but got a perm to do something different. After the chemicals my hair became very dry. Did this tonight and so far my hair looks great. Thank you!

  • 1st and for most thank you so much my daughter’s hair has changed so much thanks to your tips and I make sure I follow your step to the tea….bless you, you are beautiful inside and out.

  • Thanks for the info, but these oils and these techniques only work if you wear your hair naturally and if you are of mixed racial origin and/or if you are from the islands.

  • I have been using the la bang body oil for almost 4 years now it was the best while I was pregnant and I did t get any stretch marks at the time you could only get it from the la bang website and I 100% did not mind paying the $20.00 $25.00 shipping because it’s the best

  • Thank you so much, Natasha, for the clarification and these amazing tips. I used to mix them together moisturising and look-in oils. The way you do it makes a lot more sense. I’ll try to follow your advice and will keep you posted for results. X

  • I’m obsessed with your videos and your vibe… Watching your channel always puts me in such a good mood. My favorite YouTuber hands down! Thank you for always showing up with such amazing content! You inspire me so much! XOXO

  • This is awesome!! I feature Full-Length At-Home workouts on my YT Channel feel free to check it out and fold the workouts into your health and wellness journey with essential oils.:)

  • When I gave birth to my third child i did not get anything for the pain. They made me smell mint oil and it was THE FREAKING BEST thing I have ever tried. All pain disappeared, all nausea I just went to heaven smelling mint during birth i highly recommend it

  • Did you know?
    1. Castor Oil is made from Castor Beans.
    2. The scientific name of Castor Beans is Ricinus Communis.
    3. Eight Castor Beans can Kill an Adult.
    4. Ricinus Communis can cause headaches.

  • Yes honestly organic coconut oil for cooking is more healthier than the actual hair products I have a giant jar of it and I haven’t even gone through half of it!

  • Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I use EO’s for a lot of things. I love what Melaluca oil does, and and can used for, but I have found that I have to be VERY careful in using it as it tends to burn my skin, even when diluted with a carrier oil. I say that simply as a caution to others. We all react differently to the same oils. Thanks again. I’ve been tempted to try RMO oils to get away from the MLM side of things. You helped me think again on that.

  • When I was pregnant with my son, I used Palmers Coco Butter lotion and I rubbed it all over my tummy in the morning and before bed and I never got a single stretch mark! I HIGHLY recommend

  • Your robe is soo beautiful Definitely going to try putting some essential oils in my shower! Your work ethic is such an inspiration to me! Hope to make my channel as inspiring as yours

  • I am so so happy that you are pregnant right now. I am due August 22nd with my first and it has been ROUGH. I never thought that I would’ve been on this journey around the same time as you and I am just so grateful and feel so much less alone. You are the best Sam!

  • Hey, I’m the type where I shave in the morning and by night time there’s already stubble on my legs. I recently started using the Kenzzi IPL laser hair remover, this is not sponsored, and omg…after 1 use I noticed a difference. I’m on week 6 and I have no hair on my legs. Uhhmazing. And I used Tria Laser for years and never noticed a difference and it hurt. This laser doesn’t hurt even on the highest setting. Anyway, I just thought I’d share with you because I know shaving, especially when you’re pregnant, is the last thing you want to do. I wish I knew about this ages ago. My life would’ve been so much more breezy and I can actually wash and go in the shower now. xoxo

  • Can’t wait to try out these tips!! My hair has been so dry and brittle lately, after years of neglecting it. At this point I’m willing to try anything to get my hair healthy and strong like yours

  • Hi Dr. Bri! I found your channel on New Years Eve, and I am so incredibly thankful for this! You are an absolutely awesome doctor, and I just adore every single thing about you <3 I agree with everything you share in this video. I've been learning about, and using essential oils since about 2011. Unfortunately, at this time, I am not able to afford the doTerra oils. Maybe I will be able to in the future, and I will surely remember to sign up under you if or when this becomes a possibility:-)

I’m sorry if I am leaving the remainder of my comment in the wrong section. I just figured your newest video would be a good place to communicate with you. You know, that you would see that I am reaching out to you. I hope you will be willing and able to reply; I will be so grateful! I figure explaining how I found you will help you understand my situation. Also I’m not asking for “medical advice”, really your thoughts, ideas, opinions…healthy stuff like this:-)

So, on Dec.31st, I was laying in bed, really unwell. Super unwell. My personal physician is aware of my chronic “issues”… just so you know. I was laying there, praying for help, and thank goodness, when I pray I very often receive excellent “answers”. I’m also into yoga, and meditation, so my prayers are perhaps..well, heck, everyone’s prayers are different. I did a “body scan”, you understand, and I felt like my entire middle, from up under my ribs, down to my pelvic floor was filled with something I interpreted as disgusting black tar. Also, I realized that I actually felt like I was about to go into labor, or was already in labor (as in child birthing).

Then I, believe it or not, had to really “dig deep” to figure out exactly what was going on. So, I realized that my chronic constipation was most definitely my problem. Also, I was sure I would die if I didn’t take action. This is when I did a YouTube search, which lead me directly to you <3 I watched your 4 part series on, um...haha..."Things That Make You Go Poo", which is so packed with value, and still has me thanking God, that I found you!!! Otherwise I would likely have ended up splayed open, like a fish, and have my innards permanently "worse". ;-)

In doing self massage, (armed with a combo of knowledge I already knew and what I had just learned), I realized just how serious these situations can become. And yeah, so it truly felt like I has an awful “Giant Poo Baby” haha, that needed to get out!!! I am wondering, hypothetically, when done properly, including carefully avoiding dehydration, taking care to replenish electrolytes, as well as doing ‘everything’ possible to avoid…you know how water can just pass on through and not be helpful, at all. Yes, avoiding all that. Hypothetically how long could it possibly take to deliver this “poo baby”???? LOL!

You are so fabulous <3 I hope you know that you have got to be helping many thousands of people, with your knowledge, hard work, and your beautiful love <3 Thank you, so very much, Dr. Bri! With all my love and gratitude <3Stacey

PS, I am a real lady, 50 years old, “Stacey Maples Murphy B……”. I promise! My id was stolen, so I had to start all over again with Google…ugh.:-( It is awful, and I realized the id issue at the same, very same time as the poo baby issue. I am so upset, and I bet you can actually imagine:-( XOXOXOXO <3

  • Hey, I love watching your videos but I have a small comment on your first tip. The part where you leave your water running in the shower, I am not here to judge or anything but it really is a waste of water and in some countries they really don’t have clean water provided. Hope you consider this next time because small actions really do make a difference. have a good day:)

  • I run a dog business and diffuse oils all day. I just avoid diffusing tea tree around them other than that it’s safe. In addition peppermint vitality is good for nausea (talking only on young living experience)

  • Unicorn oil for me is ylang ylang. No oil spells better. Absolutely none. It’s the best smelling oil and has awesome benefits people don’t realize.

  • Hi Sam, I would love to see you do a what i eat while pregnant video. I have never been pregnant, but I think it would be cool to see what you eat, especially your cravings.

  • New sub here yhur hair is BEAUTIFUL btw im from the islands and the humidity here is insane my hair frizzes up the second it starts to dry

  • I def need to get back into my curly hair routine using natural coconut oil like I used to. All I’ve been doing for the past two years is combing my hair into one big braid then spinning it in a ball using an inferior leave-in-conditioner by suave. I hardly ever wear my hair out any more and I miss it!

  • FASCINATING I have always been interested in essential oils but like you said it can be overwhelming. Like you said you wish that you had someone to help you understand and use the oils when you first started. I only have bought lavender oil please do more videos and have a playlist when your able. The “Angel” oil is what I need

  • Lavender for bug bites… no it’s not just in your head it for real works! Every time! It’s great for any skin issues like bug bites, even scrapes.

  • Poya makes some great essential oils, available on Amazon. Lower price than DoTerra, high quality, and they give the only assurance they legally can about the grade of the product: it was food grade when it arrived to them, however, after packaging they cannot claim it to be safe for consumption as it is not marketed as such.

  • Self care went out the door when my son was born he’s almost 2 now and there’s still no self care lol. In my defense, I’m a part time single parent. My husband is gone a ton for work so I just don’t make the time for myself.

  • You have the best and most healthy curls I have ever seen. I recently thinned my thick long curls with sheers because I never knew how to manage and define my thick curly hair so would always tie it back in a bun but from doing that and lightening my hair 1 year later of wearing my hair back in a bun I am now starting to embrace my curls as I have invested in many moisturising products and from watching these videos and I am doing a hair growth journey. Thank you for the amazing tips.

  • Had a question: after you put in the first 3 oils, did you do a full shampoo and conditioner routine or just shampoo, or just a rinse? Was a bit unclear about that? And how many times a week or month are you doing all 6 oils like this or is it just the 6 oils during shampoo time?

  • shallow presentation, not really helpful. you need to take us by the hand and use more words to describe the different products

  • Oh! You were saying it “suppose” to kill germs…I have a way that will prove it does! 😉 You know how clothes especially towels get funky if you leave them in the washer forgetting to put in dryer, welll, if you add about 10 drops to your laundry detergent, or just add in washeryou’ll notice no funk, so that means no bacteria and germs.:) Oh! Have you ever tried Plant Therapy? They are my very very favorite company (of any kind not just oil) but they are even cheaper than Rocky Mountain and the quality is top notch, all of their oils are Organic which is awesome (even if they don’t say Organic they have a certified organic line for the sceptics but it’s the same oil just certified). Of you get something you don’t like, guess what, your not paying for it the quickly give you a refund which is amazing sometimes its scary buying an oil not knowing if you’ll like it or not, but with themno worries. They have top notch customer service they quickly get back to you and whatever you asked they will go above and beyond answering, by giving recipes, links to other info about the topic, very detailed instructions and the question asked. I used to bought from a few places like yourself but after what all they have done for me I only buy from them now except for when I want smell good synergy’s for diffusing which Edens Garden has my favorite synergies.

  • I suggest you check out Nikki Philippi’s channel through your pregnancy, I absolutely love her! And you can learn a lot from her about oils and pregnancy wellness, I think you’ll love her!

  • I love that were pregnant together btw. Can we fake tan during pregnancy? Have you asked your doctor? One of mine said it was fine. then the other doctor made an ify face and a noise when I asked and of course the salon ladies say its safe but I feel weird about it. Lmk

  • Hey Sam, I just wanted to let you know you have to be careful with essential oils; especially the first trimester. They can lead to miscarriage, something that most people are not aware of. Also something for your audience to be aware of and be careful with. Congrats on your baby!☀️❤️

  • After watching this video and your video on how to get your curls. Taking from both videos, do this oil process first, then wash and condition. Then do the sealing oil steps? Or do the styling steps and then sealing oils? Thank you for you video and help.

  • Mrs. Meyers cleaning products were the best during my pregnancy and I feel safer to have around my daughter. Smells of other cleaners made me nauseous.
Mrs. Meyers cleaning products is essential oils and have amazing scents! Watermelon foaming hand soap is one of my favs.

  • Thank you for all the information I needed this information for my granddaughter hair routine. I wanted something to define her curls and this was very informative.

  • Hi Sam
I’ve always been told that essential oils can be harmful to pregnant women. Maybe look for advice from a professional. Take care

  • Congratulations! What a beautiful time for you. Love that you are using essential oils to support your pregnancy. Seems like there is some misinformation on essential oils in the comments. Most importantly, the essential oils must be quality. Look for certified pure therapeutic grade.  Check out Stephanie Fritz, a midwife and doula, who has a book called Essential Oils for Pregnancy and Birth I think.  Also for pets, Dr. Janet Roark, the Essential Oil vet is the best resource I know of to understand how to effectively and safely use oils around pets. And yet, it’s ok to diffuse most oils around pets (again quality oils!), as long as the pet can leave the room.   While I educate on essential oils,  pets and babies aren’t my area:), but I hope these resources might help someone.

  • I recently came across your video on hair oils and let me just say THANK YOU! I’ve been doing the treatment for 6 weeks now and the difference in my hair is amazing! I’m a believer!

  • Totally agree about the robe! I specifically asked for a heavy terry cloth full length robe for Christmas last year. My mom got exactly what I wanted and I love it! I feel so calm and warm even when it’s super cold.

  • Congrats on the pregnancy! I use a body scrub by The Seaweed Bath Co. and it’s orange, eucalyptus and cedar! Smells delish and works great!

  • when i was pregnant with my son all I wanted to eat was hashbrown, French fires, and baked potatoes. but with my daughter I only craved fruits and veggies, but couldn’t keep food down, so basically juiced and did smoothies for the first trimester lol. Congrats on the pregnancy. I knew it was coming when you all were looking at the house in new York and said “we want to start a family right away”

  • Hi!what brand of shampoo, conditioner and leave on conditioner you use?and how many times should i wash my hair in a week?should i always use oils everyday?thank you❤

  • Girrrl save that witch hazel! That’s what they will recommend you use “down there” to help you heal as painless as possible. I used witch hazel pads and they SAVED me TheFalconFam

  • You look so Glowy and Stunning for morning sickness
Essential oils sound Amazzing especially Peppermint Yuuummmm! I may have to purchase some just for my shower and no I’m not pregnant yet.
Have a lovely day gorgeous and all the best through your pregnancy ♥
    Love from Australia xx

  • I’m doing this. In one year, someone please come back and comment on this so I can share my results. Your hair is beyond gorgeous, but so are you. Do you have a skin care routine as well??

  • I’m glad you’re feeling better! I love that you share how you’re feeling on your channel and how you’re being so real! Love you and congrats on your pregnancy!!

  • How do you deal with food cravings? I just recently switched birth control and my cravings have been so intense and I can’t control them love u btw ❤️

  • I was gonna mention the oils not being safe (well some oils aren’t safe) but I see many others have beat me to it! So I’ll mention the feet rubbing. Be careful because I have read that there are pressure points in our feet and hands and massaging can trigger contractions. There’s so much stuff we have to watch out for. I’m in my TWW with my second so I’m in that research mode.

  • Did you know you were pregnant right away or did you miss a period? What were the early signs that made you take the test? Congratulations!!!

  • Congratulations!!
    Stretch Mark experience:
Bio Oil is amazing for stretch marks prevention. My first pregnancy with my little boy Thor I had none. My second with my princess Aya I had bright red large ones up to my belly button and was so bummed but at about 12 weeks post pardum I got 3 laser treats about 3 weeks apart and daily use of 1.0 tretinoin on the marks (can not use while breast feeding or pregnant) and they were undetectable. I was 29 with my boy and 34 with my girl so maybe it was age but I really feel like the Bio Oil helped with both even though 3 weeks before Aowyn’s birth the stretch marks decided to show up. • Have you been wondering about essential oils? Curious about why I keep mentioning them? Get the basics in just 6 minutes, and if you want to know more, please reach out: https://femfusionfitness.com/work-with-me/

  • WARNING ⚠️ coconut oil can burn your hair if you spend long times in the sun. I damaged all my hair because I used to put it when I lived in the DR and it would get really hot with the sun and damage my hair.

  • Smoothies got me through my last pregnancy! I was dying being so sick and smoothies saved the day for me. Feel better! You look great!

  • I just tried the essential oils in the shower!! I have to admit at first I was skeptical like, is this oil down the drain.. lol but I love it!!! I also ordered the Billie razors and shave cream with your code, thank you! Question, I have the same length hair as you, what struggles and solutions do you have for long hair? Especially with baby coming, I can’t stand my hair down arty home with the kids… have you thought about that?

  • Ordered everything from Amazon…… and followed your routine. I left it in over night and continued in the morning….. my hair showed improvement already!!!!!!! Thank you

  • I’m so glad you’re feeling a bit better!! I knew something was up ❤ I’m not pregnant, but I had the worst flu for about two weeks and I ended up dealing with nausea and stomach problems so bad with it that I couldn’t really eat anything. It impacts your mental health so much (or at least mine!) when you don’t feel well! I started getting so bummy. I so empathize and hope you keep feeling better
