  • It’s an ancient Hindu practice not some Chinese thing! And btw Buddha was also an India. I don’t know why you ignorant people form west think that yoga is just about stretching and bending.

  • One of the bad videos on yoga due to lack of research. You shouldn’t make a video if you haven’t done research. According to your video yoga is some normal exercise for flexibility. Hatha yoga description was not upto mark.
Why you give English names to yoga asanas.
Yoga means union of atma and parmatma. Asanas, pranayama etc different ways to attain yoga.
You can refer to videos of Sadhguru or read the Vedas.

  • No more back pain, less sleep, less stress. Yoga isn’t about becoming a believer but becoming a practitioner and experiencing it for yourself.

  • 1 month so far of yoga daily and it has gotten easier, my body’s stronger and more flexible. i feel taller, better posture, and walking is much more comfortable as it should be. i have also been practicing meditation for a year now, but sometimes the monkey mind creeps in; much harder when i’m sweating and straining during yoga. meditation and yoga first thing after waking up is my favorite part of the day. much like weight training, it’s all about good form and not about taking on more than you can handle.

  • I was introduced to yoga 10 years ago after coming out of coma with an infected leg due to T1 diabetes.
Doctors recommended it as a way of lowering my blood sugar as well as gently exercising my leg to get back to normal. I started 10 years ago, now it’s a part of my life, just like eating and sleeping. Can’t live without it. The benefits are endless both on the mind and body. Thank you for this video. Your articulation is perfect.

  • This guy should first do deep research on Yoga practice before saying “Yoga does not flush out toxins from one ‘s body.” Great masters & practitioners have authoritatively proven that Yoga can effectively help to detox one ‘s body.

  • Adrienne is the reason why I am doing yoga every day for 5 months now. For someone who never did any kind of workout before, Yoga with Adrienne has changed my life for the better and I’ll be forever thankful for her and for yoga itself.
    Namaste.

  • Yoga has really improved like every area of my life when I consistently do it. I always try to remember its roots in India and sort of thank ancient Indians for making something so amazing So this video was cool! To see the history of it! Edit: yoga definitely helps my depression and anxiety and any mood issues really

  • ‘Least give due credits! These westerners steal everything from the rest of the world and make it worse just as material and worldly trying for “palatable”. SMH

  • First of all, beginning with acknowledging adiyogi for gifting yoga to humanity. Second of all, you skipping showing any chinese and not hindu art for portraying yoga shows deep hinduphobic prejudices that your handlers have. Naked cultural appropriation.

  • Yoga is created & Invented in Ancient India way before Buddha existed by Adiyogi Lord Shiva yoga is way of life it’s not just physical excerise Yoga is a tool for body mind & soul… Yoga originates from India

  • Great job Ted Ed! I am living in NJ and follow yoga as for the same step you showed me,with the correct thing as a person following Hinduism i think you did a great job

  • Yoga is originited from Yoga shastra. As a Indian, I am proud that yoga shastra written in Indian subcontinent. Namaskar

  • People having problem of showing Gautam Buddha and calling it a Chinese picture, just a reminder: Siddartha Gautam Buddha was actually Indian
And Buddha means attaining enlightenment or the enlightened one. It has got nothing to do with anyone’s actual name.
    Regards

  • I find it helps me with my anxiety as I’m focusing on something rather than my thoughts and at the end I’m really relaxed so my stress goes away

  • Yoga transformed my life as well as my body. I am very grateful to have discovered yoga at a very impressionable age in my life xx http://themavenlifestyle.com/111-222-333-444-decoding-angel-number-series/

  • Well Yoga is not only Asanas. Asanas or the physical postures are just one limb of 8 limbs described by Patanjali in his famous Yoga Sutras. Your brain and body will absolutely change if you do Asanas everyday for a period of time but those are not the deepest changes. There are methods where you can follow the Yoga limbs to get to a place called Samadhi where then you can access to Samyama described in Yoga Sutras to change your perception completely. It is not hard but you need to follow a system methodically. I found that on Drukama ( check it out on Youtube and Fbook if interested ) but there are others that teaches that as well. These real Yogic systems work like a charm and you wouldn’t believe the change you see in yourself in just a matter of weeks. Blessings and thanks for the share!

  • I hope people can spare some of their time to practice yoga.I have heard how stretching the muscles releases a hormone called endorphin and it’s relieves pain.

  • This was one of the best videos with a great flow. The instructional designer just flows through the content worhout any break. That’s a great set of visuals I’ve ever seen especially among other ted ed videos.

  • I started yoga when I was 12 and haven’t stopped since. I can’t imagine not doing it. It’s been especially soothing during low moments of my life. Without it, I would likely be a total basket case.

  • Disliked because it is a very narrow minded way to look at yoga… releif from back pain and releif from ailments are just side effects of yoga…. there’s a lot more…do your research well and then make a video

  • For a video that only talks about yoga, there was absolutely no representation of Indians and a hell of a lot of Buddhist monks. Representation matters + misleading information, thumbs down for that

  • I discover this wonderful spirutual practice thanks to my friend Celia “إمرأة ذات حظ عظيم” thanks a bunch dear it s so soul and mind relaxing

  • Why? Everything has to be centred around Americans and their Govt. Clearances Yoga is from India and Not from China, your video shows Chinese practicing some Martial arts and Science Insider ehh

  • The makers behind this video did not do their homework on where yoga originated from. No mention of patanjali or images of patanjali or india. Pure laziness!

  • People are not aware that it is yoga clinical practices that can flush all the toxins from the body. The clinical processes!People have no idea what yoga is in it’s true sense.Just flipping the body and twisting parts is not yoga

  • Downward dog or ‘Adho Mukha Svanasana’!?
Plus what’s up with the images of Chinese people and Gautam Buddha? Didn’t expect this from Science Insider smh

  • Yoga is the BEST thing in the world, practice yoga almost daily for the past 4 years, no plans to stop, its a part of me ‍♂️✨

  • A major correction for your video yoga does flush out the toxins, all the twisting and bending helps facilitating the colon movement. The direct application of yoga for removal of toxins from your colon comes from the shatkarma:six cleansing practices mentioned in the hatha yogic texts. They literally clean your stomach, colon, nostrils. Please don’t put half researched information

  • It’s more simple than yoga. Movement, oxygen and water, getting out of your home and into this world, the human machine is built to respond…and will rise.

  • This song is the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard. The only thing that will take me out of my head, takes over my entire body and brings me into bliss.

  • Some of the fools here think yoga is American
Or that buddha/China gave us yoga‍♂️
    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoga
    Here you go kids

  • Fun Fact: Yoga was introduced (on a large scale) to the United States in 1893 at the Chicago World’s Fair by Swami Vivekananda. The practice was not received very well and many people thought the poses inappropriate and the practice anti-Christian, but yoga has gained quite a bit of traction in the Western world! I’m grateful that I can learn valuable lessons and practices from all over this world today.

  • If anyone wants to try proper/authentic yoga(not the bs “yoga” they teach you at gyms/studios nowadays ), check out inner engineering and the Isha foundation.

  • Yoga has originated and devoloped entirely in Aryãvarta (old name for India). Your pictures are showing China and Buddha, but Yoga is more than 4000 years old while Buddha and Buddhism came 2000 years later. Word origins from Sãnskrit confirms: Yuj (Union) + iyam (pratyãy) = Yoga (To unite)

  • So it’s for free during quarantine and affordable at any time. Not much equipment. Just u and ur body(and mat). And for stretching it’s really good. As meditating aspect this level is not unpacked for me yet.

  • I did a lot of yoga after I was diagnosed with Scoliosis in my teens. It helped with my balance and loosened up my back, making the orthopedic surgeon able to straighten my curve more that what he thought he could when I needed rods installed.

  • Sanathana Dharma one of oldest ‘Way of Life’ has contributed and still contributing for humanity in many forms ( Yoga, Ayurveda, Astrology, ZERO,. etc) Practice, enrich and explore Sanathana Dharma!

  • Today more than ever before, the whole world needs to listen to this mantra and chant.
I heal, you heal, the world heals…let’s chant…Blessings to you all.

  • This video is like explaining brain surgery to a kindergarten kid.. and it’s replete with inaccuracies.. but I appreciate that they’re talking about it, and agree with the crux of the message! Anything that pushes the needle forward, right?!

  • God, the cringe is real when he says ” PhaThanJaaLee “.

Cmon, white guy! It’s not that tough of a name. ‘ pa-tan-ja-li ‘

  • Sushmana (soosh mana) which you are chanting is not the same as sushumna (su shum na) Please verify the correct Sanskrit pronunciation. This is otherwise a very beautiful video. Blessings

  • I was listening to this alot yesterday. Didn’t even realise the meaning, just loved how it was making me feel. I was making a pot of tea and when the water boiled I started to pour, the lid came loose, the then still boiling water poured all over my hand! It felt cool, it didn’t hurt, there was no red mark! I showed my hand to my partner and child in disbelief. Then I listened to the track today and decided to learn its meaning… woah magic???:D
Thank you so much for this and all you do my angels! Love/Light.

  • Thank you all who made this wonderful video wonderful voice n mantra said so calms instantly it feels so calming n peaceful it’s healing God bless u all for such good work for everyone can heal Thank you Thank you Thank you

  • This mantra is also beneficial for animals. Recently had a cat who was ill and transitioning and this made a big difference in terms of relieving pain and anxiety for him. I am very grateful to have found this. Thank you so much for posting it, the man’s voice is soothing and the guitar is lovely.

  • Good effort with the pronunciations. I hope people would start saying the actual names of the yoga asanas instead of giving them weird English names

  • Those high heels will damage not only your feet (foundation) but your back. Somatic cognitive therapy is very complimentary to (Hatha) yoga……it is about acknowledging what we are feeling physically in the body, paying attention, proper alignment, and attention to breathing. • Yoga has helped me get through autistic burnout. Who knew that flopping about where your body doesn’t naturally flop (stretching) could be so beneficial?

Also, thank you for not westernising this:)

  • Oh? So it isn’t just stretching, there’s psychological connection to it. I see. And Christians in favor of yoga just say it is stretching.

  • I used to have stress and the awkward coder neck from being at the computer for long hours. Since I tried yoga for a month, I noticed my breathing is easier, I feel happy, I’m more relaxed, and I noticed my posture has improved.

  • Yoga has been reduced to “self improvement industry”. It’s much more than that. The physical exercises and pranayama are just 2 layers out of 8.

  • I’m a self-defense instructor and LOVE this video. Self-esteem is a huge part of what we work on and general health is a big factor in increasing confidence and learning techniques. Keep up the great work Tech Insider! Feel free to connect with me folks:) Love, Fauzia

  • Yoga does flush out toxins..all the twisting.is like wringing out a wet rag.. alongside the proper breathing techniques…who is this guy??

  • I started yoga in 2017 when I wanted to get off my antidepressants and my pain medicine. I have chronic pain and a personality disorder so my mental state greatly affects how my physical body feels and works. Yoga, including the spiritual aspects of breathwork and meditation, has helped me to come into connection between my mind, body, and soul. I appreciate this beautiful practice and truly believe that it is one of the most accessible forms of movement for so many different people

  • Astanga Yoga is a real technology to unite self with creation. Its side benefits are many incl disease modification, improvement in focus, treatment of various mental and physical disorders

  • I’ve tried to sing this song. But how can I sing it? I must know who I am singing to. Some other mantras work, depending on who sings. Like, almost everyone has an idea what God is, so one can sing such songs (church songs). But this refers to something in me? Prana Apana Sushumna describes the positive/negative energies entering/leaving through Sushumna? How are we to think, we offer the negativity inside to Hari (God) by singing to him and he gives positivity back?

  • I really enjoy TedEd videos which are usually a joy to watch. But I was disappointed to find this very westernised portrayal of the subject matter. I do think the least they could have done is get the pronunciation right:/

  • I lost my job, my side business, my apartment and had to move cities. Pulled my back in the move. But then a silver lining, I started getting into yoga and I’ve found I enjoy it immensely. Now I’m combining it with meditation which I did before and I feel things I never thought I could before. I find personally it helps me mentally stay positive as my entire life falls apart around me and into the burning tire fire that is 2020.

  • I don’t know I could never figure out how to breath with only one lung by holding half my nose closed? Just about 50 I’ll stick with Kung-fu & Tai Chi. Qi and Chakras are similar ideas and either are better than the rampant rates of obesity and sedentary activities of modern humans.

  • i love you all please forgive and let go thankfuly i am SORRY i kiss you in to your HEARTs
GLORIA in excelsis DEO HALLELUJA AMEN

  • Yoga in Hinduism makes the practitioner self-destructive like an ouroboros. This is the true meaning of Kundalini. In Vajrayana Buddhism, the goal is even worse: Complete mental chaos and possession by Shiva even after death (akin to Voodoo in that way). In both, a demon is invoked to attack each part of body and consciousnessthe “chakras” (the “wheel” is the ouroboros).

  • Your ignorance at peak when you think yoga is Chinese. Clearly India failed at screaming to the world that it is F****in INDIAN. Get your facts right before making the video. YOGA IS AN ANCIENT INDIAN PRACTICE THAT IS SPIRITUAL IN NATURE!!!! Fools, making it look like it is everything but Indian

  • So good, thank you. I’ve noticed on many occasions that modern psychotherapy and psychology in fact takes a lot from eastern philosophy and yoga.

  • Yoga has a deeper philosophy. The Benefits mentioned in this video are just its side effects. Its main purpose is beyond logic and intellect.

  • man i would love this narrator to narrate a meditation video or something! even if the words he’s saying aren’t quite related to meditation his voice definitely soothes my mind.

  • WOW… I wanted to thank you for your inspiration insight!! I am currently in my last year of counselling and have been practicing yoga initially to heal both a physical injury but also to strengthen my mind.. and like so many surprises in life, I have been gifted with something a whole lot bigger than just a specific outcome. Wholistic… yoga has not just allowed my injured body to realign and heal but something magical has happened and happening beyond my functional neuroplastic brain… my soul connection and strength.. I KNOW this works because I am experiencing a change I have always dreamt of.. after years of counselling, self help books etc. only yoga has allowed me to shift my perspective.. anyway, I’m not going to keep rambling with excitement but I too am on your path… together with others who live this, we can move towards a world where people can become autonomous.. this to me is building a happier world from the inside out!! ✨

  • Sounds like americans just heard abt yoga. Dear its a practice developed by hindu indian yogis centuries back.Yoga has nothing to do with Buddhism too.

  • Jesus would have been a master yogi teacher if this practice brought ones soul closer to God.. Never once did he remotely teach such a practice because it leads one away from our creator, God and Jesus his son. Yogi is all about self. God is all about others.
God is not a religion. He is a spirit who lives in the realm of perfectness trying to get his creation to follow but many are sadly lost due to wrong beliefs and teachings.
Jesus came to restore the path back to God and once you truly experience God thru Jesus you understand his purpose for us in this life. One then goes from darkness into light and is able to as Jesus say’s, see clearly.
    God bless all………….

  • Only After multiple researches, the Yoga was introduced and practiced Widely in India since ancient times. Modern science or people who do not understand it will keep wasting time on researching it unnecessarily, and the irony is someone else will come to approve it our practice.. Ha ha ha. Whatever our ancestors have given, most of them are all used for longer period of times. Now a days, even if you know you are alive, you must get the approval from someone else, only then people believe that they are alive.

  • Actually technically yoga and any type of exercise does release toxins, i get annoyed at these ppl claiming that is some far out there woo woo crazy talk. Yoga and exercise increases lymph flow. And the lymphatic system is a network of tissues and organs that are part of the circulatory system that help the body remove toxins, waste, dead blood cells, pathogens, etc. as part of our immune response. So imagine that all just sitting in your body? Bc all that junk moves slower when you don’t exercise.

  • Yoga is a Hinduism practice far before buddhism existed. Buddha himself was born in a Hindu family. He took his training from Hindu Yogis and later taught it to his disciples. And China has nothing to do with origin of yoga.

Kindly report this channel as misleading.

  • Little tip, while I’m doing the Cobra pose (or a pose you don’t really need to focused so hard) I like to thank some part of my body it just gives a silly boost.

  • So, I’ve been trying to get an answer for this for a while. I eat healthy doesn’t work, have tried Yoga didn’t work, have been working out hasn’t worked so far, I take colder showers cause apparently it’s better for mental health (hasn’t worked). Can someone please explain to me how this is possible?

  • @Science Insider
Yoga originated in India.. why are y’all showing Chinese dudes?
Yoga was first practised by Lord Shiva (AdiYogi = The First Yogi) He taught it to his 7 disciples called the Saptarishi Uttaradhikari (The Seven Great Sages) and that’s how its knowledge spread across Bharat (India)
    Please get your facts right.

  • I’m from India and I want to say that there is one practice that literally flushes out toxins. I don’t exactly remember the specific name but it comes under the “Neti Kriya” (Google it) and it involves drinking a special mix of stuff in the morning and then being only on hot water for the rest of the day.

  • The pronunciations in the video were amazing. Although, one majorly overlooked thing is that the pronunciation of YOGA is actually YOG, since it’s a Sanskrit word. Whenever Sanskrit word are transformed into English, there is a pattern of adding an A after the wordlike, AYURVED was turned into AYURVEDA.. GANESH was turned into GANESHA… It’s extremely important in Indian sciences to pronounce words correctly since it believes to improve cognitive functions.

  • I’m a Indian & I does Yoga, Meditation every day, It’s our ancient Hindus culture & everybody should be do yoga, we can make our world healthier, It has been 2 years to me, I feels very very good when I does meditation. Thanks & I’m sharing this video on my WhatsApp group.

  • Does the narrator, who’s name is Addison Anderson BTW, has a podcast channel or read stuff that’s available on Calm or something?? If he hasn’t he should consider doing it.

  • hahahhaha……this guy needs at least SOME knowledge of YOGA to even speak about it. People can go to whatever level they can to earn money!….don’t confuse people dude!

  • I dated a yoga instructor for about 5 years… I admit I still don’t understand… what can I say, my temperament is chill, what can I say?
