  • Nick…been following you for a while now. Your commentaries are brilliant. I;m a seasoned bodybuilder…not a champion, but got into the sport in 1979, before it gained popularity, Is there a way to contact you? i;m at [email protected] yahoo.com. Thank you

  • @Ebvardh Franco didn’t have the personality that Arnold had, although I’m a big fan of Franco he would have needed more than height to carry off Conan and The Terminator roles, he’s quite hard to understand in Pumping Iron for instance, because his English was quite basic. Hell I know Arnie (whom I’ve met) has been bashed over the years because of his accent, but at least Franco made it into Conan even if it was as an extra!!

  • I don’t know how these shows are scored. Roy Callander, Jusup, dickerson, platz and especially Padilla look so impressive and they chose a tiny lil wimp with no legs. This is a joke.

  • The kid In the background at the beginning behind Franco was featured on a Canadian tv show called “Going Great” In the early 80’s about bodybuilding on that particular episode. On the show he met Franco and got to watch him pump up and he got some posing tips. That tv show Is what got me interested In bodybuilding and In particular watching Franco do dumbell side laterals. I couldn’t believe how amazing he looked back then. Thanks for the inspiration Franco. I’m still working out today at 47 years old and look mid 20’s tops.

  • Even Arnold was looking on in awe, at Franco’s amazing lat spread.  Arnold got all the hype, but Franco at only 5’5 (that may be being generous) still won Mr. Olympia 2X, among many other bodybuilding titles.

  • we say: “in the small barrel is the best wine”…
it’s not a matter of height, but proportions; he won Mr. Olimpia twice, and in the end he has been one of everytime best bb, it cannot be negate.

  • From 1976-1983, every Mr. Olympia was under 200 lbs except Arnold in 1980. To get an idea of the tilt over time towards mass, in 1983, the winner was 185 lbs and the runner-up was 160 lbs; but in 2003, the winner was 287 lbs with a 260 lb runner-up, and they repeated those placings in 2004 with each about 10 lbs heavier.

  • NICK if you google it the BIG argument Mike Mentzer and Arnold had at the 1980 Olympia was that Arnold stood up at the Competitor’s meeting with Ben Weider and asked for the Short & Tall categories to be re-instated, as that is how he would always win against the “shorter/under 200lb” class. Mike Mentzer and Boyer Coe both said no, then Arnold reacted by saying “Mike we all know you lost against Frank Zane as your stomach was sticking out”. A fist fight was narrowly stopped by Ben Weider!

  • If you’re a Franco fan you should check out his book “bodybuilders nutrition,” its really good and you can learn from his personal experiences as well as his complete knowledge from his education.

  • Hey guys. Wonderful video clip clip.

My good friend had been an overweight boy. He remodeled his body from 283lbs of fat into 207lbs of pure muscle mass. Everyone was in shock. I just registered personally as I plan to greatly enhance my entire body. He used the Muscle Building Bible (Search on Google)…

  • @surfboyabry007 what you talking about you uneducated fool arnold was always better than franco franco was smaller and built like a little boy compared to the terminator’,arnolds chest made francos look like abird chest not to mention arnold trained 10 times as hard and probaly 10 times as strong as franco, arnolds chest, lats deltoids and glutes are superior.

  • the huge gut we see today is due to the use of growth hormone. it causes “gut distention”. basically apart from your muscles all other parts of your body start growing including the intestines which causes this bloated look. Back then in arnies time and francos time growth hormone wasn’t being used like it is today..

  • @saulhudson420 how do you know he was on steroids fat boy? he wasnt that big, today there much bigger if ronnie coleman hasnt been caught using them then why you think franco used them? its very possible to get like franco was he was super ripped work hard and eat vegtables.

  • @fluidjazz
Haha, I guess. I’m a big Franco fan too and I’m kind of sore to see that the world doesn’t remember his achievements like it should.

  • @kingdaleclarke FIrst of all, maybe you should taka a look at who’s been uneducated, considerinbg that it seems really hard that you can admit someone else’s opinion. Secondly, I hava a BBA in accounting, a BBA in MAnagement and an MBA in Finance, all from Ohio STate Unuversity. Now, regarding COlumbu, inch by inch, pound per pound he had more muscles than ARnold. Arnold had horrible legs, though his upper was awesome. Yes Arnold was (is) higher, but that does not means anything. CUtler is 5’6″

  • I read, that at the 1980 Olympia, with the competitors still reeling from Arnold’s surprise entry, they were trying to decide whether or not to have the under & over 200 divisions, or just do away with them altogether. Well, every competitor voted to do away with them………except one hold out, Arnold. But he said he only held out because it pissed everyone off so much, especially Mike Mentzer. Arnold and his psych out shenanigans.

  • Wow. Very good movie. My older brother was formerly an obese fella. He reworked his body from 284lbs of pure fat into 211 lbs of complete lean muscle mass. That shit was crazy! I just registered personally coz I would like to greatly improve my overall physique. He used the Muscle Building Bible (Google it)…

  • One think that strikes me about old contest photos is the relaxed pose. In the old contest the relaxed pose looks well, relaxed. I know they are flexed a bit. But now in the relaxed pose all of the contestants look like they are trying to hold in a fart.

  • @saulhudson420 I know more about bodybuilding than your brain could handle you gave me no vaild points once again you got owned by a more experienced dude who knows whats hes talking about.

  • Hey Man, can you make a video about the REAL most conditioned Dorian Yates? At the 1996 German Grand Prix. Many believe its the 1993 mr Olympia, but I think he was a tad bit drier and more conditioned in the German Grand Prix 3 years later

  • I was impresses by Arnie but Franco is a much better man. Arnold is a racist,an exploiter & ooportunist, extremely arrogant and damn when is he going to Berlitz to loose that backwoods accent & learn to speak Eng-ga-lish?

  • Does anyone know what Franco did to get that big inner chest beside dumbbell flys, I’m having a problem my chest is going inner ward and is really starting to bug me. And I go to my schools gym and the only cable we have is latpull down.

  • Hey nick please do a video on Edgard John augustin the guy does bodybuilding and doesn’t have his real legs from knee down their bionic he looks great it’s motivating still doesn’t miss leg day haha

  • @steroidTRUTH that sucker of steroidr4looser goes arround every bodybuilding post talking his crap. he is either an asshole who got sick of abusisng steroids or a skinny or fat guy who cannot achieve getting a nice body jajaja.

  • How the hell did Franco with an ugly bitch tit, and horrible sausage-looking legs beat a flawless Danny Padilla?  Franco never should have been in the top five.  Politics, that’s how. The ’81 Olympia was the lowest point in its history.

  • steroids do not give you muscle…working out gives you muscle, steroids help but wont do shit without effort. Clearly people dont understand this so everyone plz stop responding to those idiots who say STEROIDDDS!!! STEROIDDDS! lmao….they are just idiots that dont know anything about working out.

  • I really wanted to enter especially as I knew Arnold had retired…..but I was only 4 years old, and they have rules apparently. Typical politiks.

  • Franco Columbu

I owe a HUGE debt of gratitude for all your inspiration over the years.

I started Bodybuilding at 18 yrs old, after being inspired by specifically you in Pumping Iron (in 1990)

now at 42, and I’ve competed twice, and actually won my first contest last year, and am lining up for my third contest. I’m also a Personal Trainer. I have even gone as far as getting a couple of tatoos in your honor, and bodybuildings honor. One on my arm, of you doing the deadlift (with the dog looking on), another of you setting the world record in bench press, on my back. This to testify my love of Bodybuilding. You got me started and it’s great to relay it. My physique is in the avator. Many thanks for the kick start I needed to keep in shape.

  • Wasn’t this guy using steriods or implants or something like that? I think I saw this in biology class for the hormones chapter…

  • Mike Mentzer and several others have commented that Franco had gynecomastia  in this contest. I’m guessing it’s his right pec. Anybody else see it or care to comment?

  • a YT video of the 81 Olympia is erroneously labeled as 76.
The signifigance of the 1976 Olympia was the surreal transformation of Frank Zane.
After being flat in 75, and left out of the Pumping Iron documentary, he was forgotten about.
    This worked to his advantage.
After this showing, where he came in ripped to shreds, he was taken seriously, and it laid the platform for his 3 consecutive wins.

  • Most certainly enjoyed the video and your appreciation of bodybuilding history! As a history buff myself, in truth the under 200 pound bodybuilder won the Mr. Olympia contests stretching from 1976 through 1983. Only Arnold’s win In 1980 was the only exception to the entire 8 year period. It is said that 1983‘s winner Samir Bannout, weighed 198 pounds. Franco won in 1981, and Chris Dickerson won in 1982 (both in the 180s). And as you mentioned, Frank Zane won his titles ‘77 ‘79

  • There was tv coverage of the 1975 Mr. Olympia by “Wide World of Sports.” Is there anyway you can get those tapes? Was there tv coverage of the “74 and ’76 Olympias?

  • Also it was the year that Arnold promoted the Mr. Olympia with Jim Lorimer, and the event took place in Columbus, Ohio which would later be home to the Arnold Classic.

  • Nick, love Your Videos! I have a few Questions.. if Lue would have competed how do You think the contest would have went? also My two favorite Body Builders The Barbarian Brothers back in the Day said they were going to compete in the Olympia what happened that they never did? also why is it that You cant find any photos of them posing? or competition pics? lastly how about a video of the cycles these Guys did from then to the modern cycles.

  • Ottimo risultato.Ineguagliabile..

  • If Sergio Oliva came back to the IFBB in 1976 he would have smoked Franco, Waller & Zane. He beat Robby and Bill Grant in other head-to-head contests during the same post-Arnold era of 1976-1981.

  • I think the reason for why there was no weight class for the 1980 Olympia was related to Arnold’s failed attempt to create a tall man and short man categories where he had the famous confrontation with Mentzer.. Arnold probably got Ben Weider to scrap the weight categories….just a hunch.☺

  • Yo u should really do a video on tameav asxab he’s a 16 year old from Chechen with a 20 inch neck and is swole asf, they have a kinda viral vid bout him with over 2 mil views. You should talk bout if you think he’s natural and his Physique

  • Franco deserved to win in 1975 but 71-74 was won fair and square. In 1980 was a tie but the physique and posing was better by Arnold to win fair and square in 1980, but 1970 and 1975 are definitely debatable years Sergio was better in 1970 and Franco was better in 1975 in the Pumping Iron video.

  • this is what a bodybuilder should look like, symmetrical powerful arnoldesque. not the roided out synthol hgh gut dying at 43 ugly uncharismatic symmetricless freaks of the modern stink age

  • @jaredJR1100 Well, I can tell you one thing. I am a whole LOT smarter than you. And, I am talking bout now, and not referring to the 70’s. So yea.

  • Actually Arnold was very much against having the one class and was arguing to keep it in that very same to class format. Mike mentzer and him had a very heated argument about it backstage almost resulting in a fist fight. Or The Story Goes…

  • @silorm1 I looked at the clip but I was referring to a lot more than what he dis on stage or gym but this doesn’t eradicate his racist beliefs

  • I started Bodybuilding at 18 yrs old, after being inspired by specifically you in Pumping Iron (in 1990)

  • @saulhudson420 Anythings possible yes its possible he did as its possible neil armstrong faked the moon landing just as possible as it is bruce lees alie, santas real or the 2012 doomsday but like i said nothing indicates he was on steroids what about him makes you think he was on steroids? He was big muscular and strong and he got that way from hard work dont get jealous because the only thing you work is your fingers on a keyboard.

  • Franco had a great physique. After doing a side by side comparison i would even say his back was thicker & more muscular than Arnold’s.

  • Love that shot at 55 secs. How can anyone with eyes not see that Ferrignos physique is superior. Arnold looks like his little brother. P.s. Mentzer won the 80 olympia

  • Franco had the most impressive physique minus the right pec gyno. But lets get real. If freaks like Ronnie Coleman can win Mr. Olympias with his disgusting pregnant belly, why not Franco with his little flaw.

  • Jason Blaha said that he has more muscle mass than serge nubret. That gives him more or less the second place at the 1975 mr olympia.
I would even go so far to give him first place, cause has ptsd, inner ear problems, heart failure, lactose intolarance etc

  • Bodybuilding Will never feel the same when Arnold dies. Will probably be the hardest Celeb Death I Will ever experience in my life

  • @CroGamingMachine Both were good training friends, both are Mr. Olympia title holders and if Franco Columbu had been a little taller, Conan and Terminator would’ve been Italian characters.

  • Franco doesnt deserve either of those 2 Sandows to be standing on his mantelpiece, always had very poor legs, had good chest and back tho

  • @CroGamingMachine this was at 1975 mr olympia conteste in south africa,Arnold was there competing, but in another class, over 200 pounds. franco and arnold won that contest but in diferent weight.
    Danny Padilla was competing too.

  • La verdad que el querido Franco no merecía más allá siendo generosos de un 4 lugar
En mi opinión la premiación era así
    1 Padilla
    2 dickerson
    3 callender
    4 platz
    5 Franco

  • if people knew half the crap bodybuilders went through to look good for one show, the pain, the suffering, the sacrifice and the practice of posing while smiling.. they wouldn’t be so damn critical.

  • anyone know who danny padilla is? he was supposed to be one of the main people shown in the movie but was cut out at the last minute. is that supposed to be him talking to arnie at about 00:12??

  • Franco should have never won this olympia. Its a joke. Seriously. Danny Padilla, tom platz and chris dickerson are way better than him. Sorry.
