  • Caffeine has made me very anxious. Caffeine has given me anxiety and it has given me this jittery feeling. It also makes me overthink certain situations and that is why is has made me very nervous/awkward. I’m glad I stopped consuming caffeine and when I stopped, I feel more like myself. Caffeine is just too much for me. My caffeine free lifestyle has made me more calm/relaxed.

I would drink up to 7 mugs a day because a high stress job made me lose sleep, this lead to less sleep, which lead to drinking beer and eating more, which lead to weight gain, which lead to being inactive.   • I gave up coffee and the following 3 days were like hell for me emotionally and mentally.
    I started crying for no reason then at times got very angry and irritable.
    It took me 3 and a half days to go back to my normal state of being.
    I drank a lot of water in the meantime to flush out all the caffeine out of my system.
    Also lime juice helped me to stay hydrated and calm.
    My advice would be if you want to get rid of your caffeine addiction and want to try it don’t go cold turkey at one go.
    Start by reducing the number of cups you drink per day.
    Lets say if you drink 10 cups/day reduce it by 2cups and drink 8 the next day and stick to your plan.
    You would need to dedicate around 3-4 days to completely decaffeinate yourself.
    And believe me,its totally worth your time and effort,especially for your mental health and pocket!

  • I used to drink as much as 15 cups of coffee on certain days, strangely I never had problems falling asleep, yeah I didn’t feel tired but if I went to bed at 10 even after so much coffee I would fall asleep in minutes.     I see, offered in the sidebar on my computer screen, videos addressing other things I’ve been wondering about, including the safety of teeth-whitening. However, I will NOT be clicking on any more BBC Earth Lab videos, since this is the second one I’ve viewed, which seems deliberately designed to not really say anything.

  • I’ve been searching for this for HOURS. I made a bad decision of purchasing one of my favorite coffee brand new Black coffee with an extra double shot. I’m a person known to have anxiety attacks/panic attack after consistent consumption of caffeine (specifically black coffee) for more than two days. Immediately after my first sip, the symptoms came. I couldn’t stop laughing and being more upbeat than I’ve ever been (the only similar situation i’ve experienced, not even half the amount of, uncontrollable laughter was after a 360 degree pirate ship ride and the laughing only lasts 3 hours max). The symptoms persisted for two hours and got worse, I began laughing more and dizziness spells began. The laughter calmed once more and the dizziness spell stopped for a few minutes after an hour until I got home. I started laughing, crying, shaking, making facial expression, making odd sounds for two hours with the dizziness and headache as my first and only warning before the ‘episode’. I was kept to the floor, barely even able to sit upright for HOURS until I finally could get myself out of my room to take a shower. Right before I shower, I had a moment of dissociation. After that, all is currently well. As much as i’d like to say i’m never touching caffeine again, I know that this will reoccur one day like all the times before. I have no idea what happened today but this is the closest explanation i’ve found.

  • I’ve started drinking unsweetened and unflavored iced tea moreso to wean myself off of drinking soda, which I admittedly used to drink way too much of. It used to be so bad that I’d drink at least 2-3 20oz servings of soda a day, but I’ve gotten it under control and now I’d say it’s closer to maybe 2-3 a week at most.     Coffee is an addictive stimulant that increases adrenaline and noradrenaline in the body. Adrenaline and noradrenaline suppress the immune system and cause insomnia and gut irritability. They also cause the body to raise blood sugar causing more insulin to be released (increasing the likelihood of Type 2 diabetes obesity and cardiovascular disease.
    Caffeine withdrawal comes with symptoms to that are similar to (but less severe than) its molecular ancestor cocain irritability, headaches, malaise, paranoia…..

The kidneys do not PRODUCE aquaporins when stimulated by the antidiuretic hormone(ADH), the ADH actually triggers the BINDING of aquaporins to the walls of the collecting duct in the kidneys, and these aquaporins can actually be removed from the cell walls for more diluted urine.

  • Something that annoys me, and I don’t know if it should: people that get super defensive about drinking coffee or tea, when evidence is brought forward about one being better than the other.
    Listen, coffee is fine, as is tea (which is said to be better, not just in this video). Really, in my mind, it’s just about which one gives you the better “buzz” affect, and provides you with the longer lasting, beneficial energy we all drink it for (excluding caffeine-free beverages from this discussion). I find that if I have coffee in the morning, and then follow that with two cups of tea (one black, one green) my mind is in peak-thinking condition (coffee alone gives me a scatter brain. Tea alone makes me feel lethargic). If you feel fine drinking just coffee, great! However, if you feel like tea benefits you more or drinking them together does, then maybe start testing it from day to day. I ran tests on myself, and now I know (approximately) what combination helps me stay in tip top shape.
    I am also very physically active, so making sure I never drink caffeine too close to bed time (which does horrendous things to your sleep). I also wake up at 5 every day. Knowing what I know about my “perfect” caffeine balance, really allows me to make it from day to day feeling happy and relaxed.
    Edit: having less variables in your tests also makes them easier (I.e., consistent sleep schedule, same workout regiment, same job). I found that whenever I’d get inconsistent sleep, I’d be feeling tired and, empirically, thinking that it was directly related to my caffeine and food choices.

  • A good way to know if you’re drinking too much or too little is your pee color. Clear means you’re drinking too much, dark mean too little. You want a pale yellow! Slightly darker is ok too. You should really worry about red, and apple juice colored urine. As well as try to drink a bit less if it’s clear.

  • With its stimulating effects, it’s easy to understand why coffee is the second most traded commodity on earth after oil. For many, it keeps us awake and moving through our busy days. But how does it work? What exactly does coffee do to your brain?

    2Whenever you’re awake, a chemical called adenosine slowly accumulates in your brain and this adenosine binds to receptors which slow down brain activity. Ultimately, the more adenosine there is, the more tired your brain feels. Which makes sense as the longer you’re awake, the more fatigued you become. Conversely, while you sleep, the concentration of adenosine declines, gradually promoting wakefulness.

    3 – But it turns out that the caffeine in your coffee is incredibly similar to adenosine in structure. The caffeine works its way through your bloodstream and into your brain where it starts to compete and combines with adenosine receptors. But because it’s not adenosine, the sleepiness effect isn’t felt. Adenosine can no longer bind, meaning its calming properties are diminished. Which is great for you when you’re feeling tired.

    4 – However, with long term use of caffeine, your brain responds by creating more adenosine receptors, which means more caffeine is required to elicit the same response. It also means that when you try to quit drinking coffee or miss your daily intake, you might experience some withdrawal symptoms and feel more tired than you would have before you ever drank coffee. But the caffeine doesn’t stop there.

    5 – It also stimulates the production of adrenaline – you know, the fight or flight hormone. This increases your heart rate, gets your blood pumping and even opens up your airways. Furthermore, it affects dopamine levels by preventing its reabsorption in the brain, which makes you feel happy. In fact, this is the exact same thing that cocaine does, just to a lesser degree. It’s a drug after all.

    6 – This dopamine stimulation is also the aspect of coffee that makes it moderately addictive. So, can you drink too much coffee? It turns out there is a lethal dose of caffeine, which is somewhere around 150 milligrams of caffeine per kilogram of your body. This means if you weigh 70 kilograms, you require 14,000 milligrams of caffeine to overdose.

    7 – Put into perspective, an average cup of coffee contains roughly 150 milligrams of caffeine. Meaning if you’re 70 kilograms, approximately 70 cups of coffee would kill you. However, you would have to drink those cups all at once, making it effectively impossible to overdose on caffeine from coffee, since you wouldn’t be able to physically fit that much in your stomach.

    8 – You would also start experiencing mania and hallucinations before getting to this point. Caffeine also has a half-life of around 6 hours. So, if you drank a standard coffee with around 150 milligrams of caffeine, after about six hours, there would only be around 75 milligrams left in your system and you’ll be feeling half of the effect.

    9 – And 6 hours after that, you’ll have 37.5 milligrams, leaving more room for adenosine to jump back into action, which is why you may reach for another cup throughout the day to remain that glorious alert and energetic feeling. So, drink up and enjoy the buzz while it lasts.

    I lived for about 3 months without caffeine once (no tea, no chocolate, nothing with cocoa in it,…), but I still got back into the tea habit. Days without tea are the most fatigued onces of them all. Those 3 months were pretty terrible. Only nice thing coming out of such a break is the fact that you can get even higher because your tolerance basically resets, I’ve done just 3 weeks also super hard not so long ago, and that also made a difference in my tolerance level.
    Of all the herbs I have made ‘herbal tea’ from, of all the blends that I’ve tried and some made myself, nothing can compare to the aroma and psychoactive effects of (green) tea.
    I guess being addicted to tea is still way less worse then being addicted to harder and/or more addictive stimulants like cocaine, amphetamine, nicotine, etc. though.

  • Iam a turkish migrant born in Germany and my mother is 48 and Iam 26, my mom is addicted to black tea so I got too and since my childhood we’re drinking black tea daily. Me and my mom literally never brushed our teeth for long periods of time, my mother even longer periods of time (months). I started taking care of teeth serious since Iam 18 my mother still hasn’t achieved this ��, but my mother has incredible teeth for her age and mine are good aswell. I think this stuff is really effective for teeth health. ��

  • 7 days ago i took 800mg then went into the gym and after that I went running, then I came back home and fell on the floor with the worst body feeling ever, I was shaking and my hands were completely numb and my heart was pumping like 120 times per minute then I rushed to the hospital and as it turned out i was having a panick attack because my stomach was making too much adrenaline from the caffeine, 2 days later i had another panick attack but less simptoms ant yesterday yet another one but even less simptoms…..so caffeine is not goof for everyone, it stick in your body for like next 7 days but you get better

  • I’ll be honest coffee tastes awful so it’s kind of hard to drink too much. Energy drinks are fruity and sugary making it easier to drink too much. Sometimes I’ll get a headache if I drink too much. Sometimes I’ll only take a sip or gulp of a drink that has caffeine.

  • It depends on what tea, loose leaf or tea bags. With tea bags you get the sweepings, which is just the tips of the tea leaf. loose leaf is the whole tea leaf and contains the goodness fount in the leafs.

  • Caffeine abuse got me hypertension at 18 years old, I’m doing better than before but my highest was 180/87 back in the highschool nursery. Just one energy drink a day can mess you up big time. Even if you are a heavy weight lifter and you run and drink lots of water it can bring you where I’m at now.

  • Caffeine does not effect your heart rate. It blocks the receptors for adenicine which makes you feel tired. The ginseng, taurine and B vitamins in energy drinks however do speed up your heart rate significantly. Its sad how they basically said that energy drinks are harmless when in reality their study was flawed

  • The energy drinks are only bad because they have a shitload of processed sugar. Caffeine is fine if you have a healthy heart, as in no arrhythmia and such cardiovascular conditions.

    Don’t forget that energy drinks have the same amount of sugar as other drinks like Pepsi (usually 10 grams per 100mL)

    Top tip: try sugar free energy drinks. they have sweeteners that dont spike your blood sugar nearly as much as white sugar.

  • I fuckin love and hate coffee. At age 11 when I was already physically and mentally ill I drank 5 cups of coffee in the matter of like 5-7 hours and was sick for like a week.

  • I believe ginger tea strengthens immune system. I drink it when I start coughing or sneezing and spit up the mucus. It’s been a while since red I’ve had a flu or cold. The more natural the tea the better. I sometimes add garlic, lemon peel and or dried mint to it.
