Yin Yoga workouts help you reduce stress and muscle tension within your body. Yin is the more passive side of yoga, where you look to release energy in those problem areas of your body. The key is to find the tension within your body, and actively focus on releasing that energy.

Mobilizing the tissueslubricates them and makes them more supple. Yin yoga is one way to achieve this. Yoga nidra, as well as other more relaxing types of yoga, like yin yoga and restorative yoga, are gaining popularity, says Fleming.

Another thing to consider is that yin yoga is a practice in mindfulness or a gateway to meditation. Different Yin yoga poses stimulate and remove blockages in the myofascial meridians in the body, which in turn balances the body’s internal organs and systems. Yin yoga requires the muscles to relax around the connective tissue in order to get a stretch, so not every yoga pose can be done safely or effectively when practising Yin style yoga. Practicing yoga changes your mind: It changes the way you approach life, your body, and eating.

Yoga shows you how to appreciate your body for all of the amazing things that it can do for you and points you in the direction of wanting to fill your body with the best possible fuel rather than processed junk food.

  • You learned me so much the last 2 month’s. You opened my eyes already so much since I work on the pelvic floor muscle. In my case you have definitely gave me the ‘ManFusion’ I needed and I am willing to do a LOT more now. You are so awesome! You even made me excited to go on yoga very soon!! I always went to the gym before, but sadly since I am sick I can’t do it anymore. Yoga seems to be the perfect thing for me now I need more awareness and need to be able to relax more.

    I am so extremely thankful for the journey you have brought me these months. I pee so different now and I really really feel some certain clarity after doing my exercises, my back pain is way less from IBS, and beside this all I also really got in to herbs and mixtures with really do help tremendously well for my IBS! I had no day without pain and now with all the herbs I studied and tried out I find major relieve! My stool gets better, no constant diarea anymore, pain is better controllable ( for people with IBS, use MINT thea without caffeine and biologic as possible. Put fresh mint in there for best results, with fennel. No sweeteners just drink it like that or with a little 100% honey if you need to, mint relieves pain and some mixtures promote the digestion)

    I find it absolutely astonishing my docters have never mentioned any of this!! Really wow! There is some great results to be gained with an more aware lifestyle (I am not anywhere near there yet but made a good start) meaning herbs, exercises, breathing techniques and healthy foods. I am not anywhere near good or anything on my sickness part but there is relief! I am 25 and have been sick since 1.5 year. Pancreatitis hit me after I losed weight and got gallstones from losing weight. They where the culprit of my pancreatits and I never got better anymore after that. Being sick all the time sucks really much. Can’t work, can’t pee, cant do anything. What keeps me going is Dr Bri and her amazing skills and advises on how to life better. It works wonders against my depression as well that came along with being sick and not able to do anything anymore. After my last hospital visit 2 months ago I told myself, we are going to give all of this a try! Docters couldn’t do much for me. There is no cure for IBS and there is not any for pancreatitis. Luckily I got hit only once (knock on wood) with pancreatitis but has caused my body to be overall sick since that day. I wish docters would have learned me some things about herbs and how it can help with IBS and that it relaxes the muscles with also makes it easier for me to urinate from my extreme tensed pelfic floor with has caused me great problems too in my life for years on end now.

    I initially only went to dr. Bri her channel for pelvic floor tension but found so much more! Awareness with made me look into other things as well, like I said above, herbs, more and better understanding of overall stress and it’s devastating effects on body and soul and better food.

    People believe me, this amazing woman is a God send for some of us. I am living proof of this. I am a male so man who have similar problems, get to work with all of this and see what it can mean to you! We also got a pelfic floor we need to take care of with great care, it is a very complex muscle and deserves precious care. Also your mind and body are worth the effort to take care of, YOU are worth the effort to take care of!

  • This is great for the night, awful for the morning. I read somewhenre that yin is supposed to be practiced first thing in the morning before the muscles warm up but i feel sleepier, and also sitted forward falls make my upper back HURT in the morning, i can’t even reach the blocks… weird since later i’m way more flexible. Love this sequence though, it was just bad timing today haha

  • Thank you for your wonderful practice. Came across this a few days ago and finally got onto the yoga mat to use your routine. All I can say is Bless you, bless you. Even after a few sessions I have felt so much calmer, nourished within myself, a feeling I have been missing for a very long time.   • Finding your edge requires you to be honest with yourself however certain people want to not be honest with themselves and they end up pushing themselves too hard.

  • I’ve had a twitching eye for some days now and while doing the forward fold I suddenly started crying and the twitching went away for the rest of the practise. Crying felt good and I feel more at ease now. I’m so happy that I found your channel!

  • Thank you for explaining the type of yoga to expect from this type of yoga it certainly helps find out if it’s fir one without having to do a session first. Am new to yoga and your channel, i did 2 if your other videos since about 1 1/2 ago or so. I have a bad back and neck thanks to a work abd a car related incidents so I can’t do some poses (such as seating in lotus or even with straight legs it really hurts my back same goes for the child’s pose, folding forward and let the tirso hanging which are all used a lot) with those limitations would you encourage to continue practicing, and I love it (practicing yoga) I think it’s helping me connect with myself and relax.   • I needed my favorite yin for hormonal balance and adrenal fatigue after a grueling day of emptying students’ lockers into bags to arrange in order for pick up and pushing textbooks around all day as we close the school down. Always eases my endo-system.

  • Paul Grilley”s DVD “yinyoga” took me out of job related lower back pain in one session that many months of physiotherapy, massage and a few sessions of chiropractics (a modality that does not make sense to me at all but tried at my physios suggestion) could not even temporarily relieve. I cried after my first tentative session with the RELIEF yin gave me. It is my go to practice now whenever I feel less energy or the body is just feeling more restricted than normal. It was an absolute blessing to find as was Sarah Powers, Bernie Clark and Biff Mithoefer.

    hope Yin doesn’t become bastardized, as so many other forms of Yoga have, now that it is becoming more main stream. Just because one does doesn’t mean they should teach.

    Thank you for this offering. It’s so rare and so extremely refreshing to find practitioners that practice what they preach. When a persons heart is truly into what they do they create avenues and allowances for those that don’t have money to burnout but have a need to experience.

  • I had a hip replacement a year ago, my sister who teaches Yoga, Yin Yoga, Pilates etc in Australia she suggested that I do Yin Yoga. so I have been practising slowly and I know where I can take my hip to its edge! which is a relief and I love the length of the poses. I’ve done it about 5times now… I’ve noticed slight difference and some poses I can’t hold for long and others I can. I have also cried twice now. Thanks for clearing this up for me makes me now want to do more… Ka Pai e hoa!

  • Hi Kassandra! I discovered your channel very recently because I was looking for Yin videos, and I really enjoyed this one, very clear and helpful to introduce someone to Yin.
    I fell in love with Yin Yoga about 3 years ago but it’s only recently that I decided to incorporate at least 1 Yin sequence per week in my routine. I always was the kind of person who do super hardcore cardio classes or intense Vinyasa, or nothing!! Because I did not respect my body enough to give him the love and respect he deserved. But Vinyasa taught me to reconnect with my body, now I’m doing a Vinyasa YTT here in Paris but I really want to do a Yin YTT in the future, because it’s the most nurturing practice I know. I always feel like Yin is pure and unconditional love to my body, and my mind of course!
    Anyway, I’m looking forward to do Yin with your videos:) Thank you for this beautiful channel!

  • Thank you,this was great and explained very well.I have been doing the one video you put out for Yoga for Cyclist,and have been enjoying it very much. as a competitive cyclist I find it very helpful for riding and racing because I get a very good stretch before riding. Some of the other videos I’ve been following are good, but I just didn’t connect with them. I found one of your morning workouts and absolutely loved it. Yin Yoga is definitely the perfect fit for me. I’ll be following your videos from here on out.

  • Finished reading your book today, been doing your yin videos for a while. The book provides a good compliment to your videos with modifiers and purpose of poses. It also provides some sort of certainty in Yoga that has drawn me to Ashtanga and Bikram in the past. When I see your video titles now I can have an idea of what we are going to be doing.
