You may think of coffee as just a part of your morning routine. But it may be part of a longer, healthier life.

A study published in The New England Journal of Medicine found that among older adults, those who drank coffee (caffeinated or decaf) had a lower risk of dying from diabetes, heart disease, respiratory disease, and other medical complications than non-coffee drinkers. However, the researchers found people were more likely to live longer with nearly every level and type of coffee consumption. Overal. “Nevertheless, these results provide further evidence that coffee drinking can be part of a healthy diet and may provide reassurance to those who drink coffee and enjoy it,” the authors concluded.

This just in: coffee is good for you! Two studies have found that coffee may help you live longer. Simultaneously published on August 15 of this year, the studies show that it’s high time we rethink the negative way in which we view coffee. Here’s a brief look at. Coffee contains antioxidants, which can help protect cells from damage.

In some studies, coffee has been shown to have a protective effect against some cancers, as well as chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and gout. The caffeine in coffee is a stimulant and may help with mental alertness and fatigue. Coffee Drinkers Live Longer I know this seems counter to what I said earlier, but it requires clarification. Coffee won’t allow you to live 105 years instead of 100. Instead, researchers found it reduces your risk of dying due to cardiovascular disease, neurological disease, Type 2 diabetes and suicide.

A study like this can never prove a cause-and-effect relationship. All it can really do is point researchers. There is good news for coffee lovers.

A new report claims that regular coffee drinkers may live longer than those who do not drink coffee. Researchers say there is growing evidence that coffee benefits the health, makes you live longer, and reduces the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, other life-threatening illnesses, and even suicide.

  • caffeine really speeds the oxidative process causing way way more free radical damage and raises cortisol and weakens the heart. don’t be fooled by 1 study ignoring several factors

  • Why does adding anything to your coffee cancel out all the benefits? That seems like a purely speculative statement and not backed by any science. Please elaborate.

  • another attempt made by coffee companies to promote coffee. coffee = increase body cortisol->high cortisol= cancer risk & balding & obese.

  • this shoddy reporting will lead to people having shorter lives because the benefits of drinking coffee or only if you have certain genetics if you don’t well then coffee can be detrimental to your genetic makeup

  • Sorry folks… coming from a 20+ year healthcare professional, this article is a grossly deceptive work if propaganda… while a shot of espresso CAN be beneficial first thing in the morning for mental clarity and a metabolism boost, the ADVERSE effects of coffee in the body FAR OUTWEIGH its benefits… the most damaging effect that coffee has on the body is the extremely acidic environment it creates… studies have determined that it takes between 6-10 glasses of water to neutralize a single 6oz serving of coffee.
Acid pH=germs, viruses and other disease processes THRIVE
    Alkaline pH=germs, viruses perish…
And even more damaging than that is, studies going back decades revealed that caffeine is a constant sublime contributor to a fungus that has been isolated as being one of the beginning etiogical causes of many common cancers… how would that news sit with the manufacturers, marketers, distributors and investment firms pushing the world’s 2nd largest traded commodity on planet Earth?
I implore ANYONE YOUNG OR OLD TO EVEN TRY to drink 4-5 cups of coffee a day for a week straight… your blood pressure will be off the charts… your scalp will be tingling from nerves… you’ll be in a state if hypertension… your breath and body odors will wreak from all the toxins building up in your body… your eyelids will twitch… you’ll be having nightmares and interrupted sleep patterns… you’ll be suffering from gastric inflammation and all the acid will be turning a lot of your food into diarrhea… remember that EVERY “study” is PAID FOR by someone or some group and if it reaffirms WHAT YOU WANT, it could be as blatantly incorrect as someone saying the Earth is flat and you wouldn’t care… Just use your head when listening to what these stooges are saying.

  • Caffeine makes you lose extra water on body, this destroys cells and accelerate aging. Caffeine is addictive and withdraws of it increase anxiety, when you consume it even 5hours before bed, it affects your sleep quality. Daily coffee drienkers get fat in time, even if you don’t put sugar and milk, bc your brain use caffeine as energy source instead of food in your stomach, this makes you suffer of vitamin and mineral deficiency in time. Your body just need whole food, nutritions and water. For me it’s not different than smoking, it just tastes good, smells good, wakes you up. Both are addictive. I am not against it totally just I don’t like they try to show it very innocent. I understand tho It’s just a great market. (Of course these are not my research results, I gained the info from the web, and my experiences as an old daily coffee drinker, it’s been two months I quitted all caffeine products, i feel amazing now, I realized that I used to focus on sth only when I drank coffee, but now I can do it whenever I want, I don’t starve for it. I started to dream night times, and wake up very fresh and energic.)

  • You lost me right at the end when you asserted that adding the sugar/cream/etc. could cancel out the benefits. To be clear, I strongly suspect that may indeed be the case. But your brand is “evidence based” and in fact that is precisely why I like to follow your work. But is there any actual evidence of this conclusion? Unless the studies differentiated between coffee with added junk and without, it seems to me the more accurate conclusion would be that we know added sugar is problematic in many ways, so it seems that the beneficial effects of coffee is healthy enough to overcome whatever is added to it on average. But for maximum benefit we should probably drink it black, and certainly without any added sugar. Verifying that this is the case will require further study.

BTW, the benefit you discussed is all-cause mortality. Is there any finer information was benefit e.g. all in cancers but somewhat offset by anything else?

Sorry for the nit-picking I really do love your stuff!

  • Mark, this is David in Oklahoma. Dr. David Furhman also penned a book called “The End of Diabetes” in which he suggests that following his writings you can rid yourself of the disease and actually become “non-diabetic” through diet, exercise and other means. I’m a pretty severe Type II diabetic and my own personal doctors tell me that they have read this book and it’s utter hogwash… in fact they go on to suggest that most of Furhman’s information is sensationalizing information aimed at selling his book. I don’t know the truth about coffee… I love it and drink it daily, but not all the literature out there today is safe to assume to be gospel. Just something to chew on with your second cup today! Thanks for the video though, I enjoy them!!
