The Causes of Childhood Obesity The cause of this is simple. Very rarely is it genetic, or a thyroid issue, or any other excuse some parents will make. It is caloric balance.

Childhood obesity itself is associated with premature mortality, early onset type-2 diabetes and cardiovascular risk factors such as hypertension (high blood pressure) and high cholesterol. Evidence claim that childhood obesity can shorten a person’s life, upping their chances of heart disease, stroke, liver disease, and cancer. However, when parents lead the way. Obesity is a growing epidemic affecting both children and adults.

Researchers and the medical community at large are looking for ways to prevent obesity in both populations. Here we. For National Childhood Obesity Week, July 3 9, we explore how early traumatic experiences can lead to a lifelong struggle with obesity.. The long-term negative consequences of being overweight, particularly in childhood.

But the main cause of childhood obesity is a combination of eating too much and exercising too little. A poor diet containing high levels of fat or sugar and few nutrients can cause kids to gain. We have deep knowledge of the biological drivers of obesity, which include poor diet quality, excessive sedentary time, inadequate physical activity, stress, sleep deprivation, perinatal factors, and probably environmental endocrine-disrupting chemicals.

Studies including severe classifications for childhood obesity and studies including the waist circumference did show increases, even if the same study showed a levelling off for the mean BMI or obesity defined by BMI [10•]. We can better prevent childhood obesity if we study the increase in childhood obesity. Overweight and obesity, as well as related noncommunicable diseases, are largely preventable. It is recognized that prevention is the most feasible option for curbing the childhood obesity epidemic. The end result is that we lose control of our weight.

Various diet options which are known have a certain chance of working but there are still some drawbacks to be seen. These drawbacks come mainly when we don t see an immediate result. At this point the causes of obesity can begin to be seen.

One obvious way to limit childhood obesity is by making it harder for schoolchildren to access fatty and sugary foods.

  • Childhood obesity is an epidemic in the United States due to its increased prevalence in the country. Since 1980, obesity prevalence among children and adolescents has almost tripled. Approximately 17% of children and adolescents (12.5 million) ages 2-19 in the United States are obese.

  • Obesity is extremely easy to avoid. All you have to do is step on a scale every morning. If you gain just a little weight, it is easy to lose just a little weight also. I do not understand why people wait until they are extremely overweight to do something about it. Do they not see that they are gaining until they have gained the equivalent of five, or more, bowling balls? Also, if you push your body a little everyday, you will stay much healthier. There is no need for gyms if you do preventative measures everyday. It is easy to lose a small amount of weight. Why do people wait until they are corpulent to do something about the amassing garbage on their body?

  • Wow, I sure hope your body never betrays you like mine did. I sure didn’t get fat by eating junk food and failing to exercise. 1,800 calories a day, all low carb, high-protein fruit and veg. I also jog for an hour each day.

    How lucky you are that your body responds to healthy eating and diet. I’d give anything, anything, anything, anything to be in your shoes.

  • Humans are not designed to eat meat. People are addicted the the adrenaline the animal secretes when it get tourchered. Hence a society of easily controlled morons. To lose that disgusting belly of yours you need to fast and let your body eat the fat. The hunger pains go in 3 days and after this you will not feel hungry. You can just sit back and watch your body become beautiful again.

  • I’m a 13 year old weighing 200lbs, and trust me it ain’t fun. I don’t know how and when it all happened but it just did. Instead of my parents watching helpful videos for me I watch them myself, becuz I wanna make a change I really do. I don’t expect or ask my parents to help me in this case because their not the ones who are in charge of me being at this stage. As growing up I use to be the chubbiest in my class, well at least that was the case until Grade 5. In Grade 5 I went to a private school in which we barley had gym and we never had outdoor recess or indoor, and that’s were I met social media, when you think of obesity you usually think of people eating a lot and eating junk but it’s a lot more than that. People don’t usually think of social media being the factor of people being overweight, but it is in many cases and so was it in mine. In grade 5 my friend introduced me to social media and I made my first Instagram, believe it or not but social media and that Instagram account if mine became such an important thing if my daily routine and the thing that I spent most of my time on my whole day. After spending most of my time on Instagram I barely had time to study or do my homework or even if I did I didn’t want to because when I use to spent my time on my social media I would my the joyful and fun moments watching people doing fun things, going to different places and sharing what their doing in their lives that when I would shut my phone it would be so boring and I would see on how my life isn’t like there’s, and it my sound stupid my that’s actually what’s going on. Gradually my grades went lower to the point were I started getting 70’s and 80’s. Now I’m in 8th grade and my marks remain the same but many more things changed due to getting lower marks and other family issues. I started consuming too much sugar and spending most of the time on the couch which we bought 2 years ago when I was in grade 6 because we moved houses. That’s when my weight started increasing when we moved In our new house I weighed 165lb and gradually I gained weight in 2 years and now I’m 200lb. I want to make a change not for what others say but for myself. My goal is losing the amount I gained in 2 years (35lb/15kg) before high school starts.

  • I honestly thought the “r” word was ghnna be “responsibility”. everything in this is an excuse. If you think hard enough you can blame or rationalize anything and be the victim.

  • Why does no one talk about planting a garden, even in the city. Even a couple of well tended tomato plants can easily produce a nice little crop of tomatoes, or beans in a garden pot, or fresh herbs. It’s so easy and healthy. if you succeed in producing anything you have a real sense of accomplishment and you improve your diet, and it frees you from dependence on retail food markets. Does anyone realize how easy it is to make a pickle or homemade salsa. Get off your butts and grow things.

  • I have a 13 yr old cousin who weighs over 200 pounds,and his diet consists of junk food(no vegetables whatsoever) and sugary soft drinks,along with candy. He sits on the couch all day playing on his iPad and watching movies,and gets no physical activity whatsoever. His dad has tried taking all of these things away from him,but he lets it go out one ear and out the other. What are some measures that his dad can do to help him lose weight? I’m afraid that if appropriate measures aren’t taken soon then he will end up weighing over 400 pounds by the time he’s 16. What kinds of health problems are attributed to obesity? For one,diabetes,heart disease,thyroid disease,and I’m sure other health issues as well. I’m so afraid for his life. He weighs a lot more than I do,and I’m 42 years old. I weigh about 3 times less than him. Any and all suggestions will greatly appreciated. We have to hide food because if we don’t,we won’t have anything. He constantly eats all day long and drinks sugary soft drinks. He eats us out of house and home. Do you think that his thyroid needs to be checked to see whether or not his constant hunger is attributed to his thyroid levels or his pituitary gland?   • Diet & exercise seems to be the simple solution. Have just a little bit of willpower and don’t live a sedentary lifestyle, you probably won’t be obese.

  • i think it is that we are not moving around as much. I went to a 3rd world country and a lot of people were walking and bicycling. I came back to the US and it looked so automated with hardly anyone walking. Now you have grocery pickup that you can order on your phone and pick it up when you get there. How much laziness is enough? On top of that food manufacturers are making their foods taste better with added calories. Then we have TV, internet, and cell phones. There is no wonder there is an obesity epidemic in our country.

  • Admit it we are here because we are not happy with how our body look and we want to look great once more.. There should be a good reason why so many of us have unwanted belly fat, it is because the diet and weight loss company that dont work… You guys should see this video as it exposed all these scammers.   • A good solution for being able to get good foods is right in it: the seeds. you can always plant a garden and after some time of watering, maybe months you can grow your own fruits and vegetables

Yes, getting proper exercise is a big part of it but take a look at what’s available in the stores and you will see that 99% of what is there is processed garbage full of sugars and fats. It’s not like you can just stop eating. Organic unprocessed food without GE, hormones, etc.are not that simple to come by nor are they cheap. We need to demand more from our food providers. Until we get better food available to us, this will not go away anytime soon.

  • In the year 1960 obesity rates in America were less than 14%. In the last 50-60 years the obesity rate among Americans has increased dramatically. Some people do have genetic and/or medical conditions that cause them to hold on to body fat but not most people. There may be a psychological element to obesity but then you must ask why does only Mexico have a higher obesity rate than us? Why our other nations not experiencing these issues that we seem to face here?

  • I think the biggest problem is it’s to dangerous for anyone to go outside without being attacked, I’d love to go for a jog in my local area but I cannot because of gangs or let my kids play outside for the same reason, so it’s not like people don’t want to exercise, it’s just we can’t, if the police would just put all criminals and gang members in jail then the rest of us could enjoy life as it was meant to be, and we could exercise without fear.

    I would say is a bit of everything, here my dad got Diabetes thanks to his obesity, basically destroyed his pancreas, been nonfunctional for 3 yrs already, he is around 450 475 pounds, and he is just 46 yrs now, problem with him as we saw it is part his diet, he hated diets, refursed to change, and was a constant battle from me and my mom to make him change

  • The cost of healthy food far exceeds the cost of “bad” foods. If you do not make a great deal of money you will have a more difficult time buying the foods you need. However I guess us fatties could get off our but and work. If we are physically able to do so.

    I agree the majority of obese folks are that way due to wrong food choices and lack of working out but, there are some who have health conditions that they have no control over.

  • my teacher literally gave me an assignment with this YouTube video attached to it, and i’m not gonna lie, its quiet boring, there’s no excitement in this video at all, its all about people eating foods that just make you fat, as i’m sitting over here thinking bout chocolate cake. We all get that sugars, fats make you fat, well more than what you need, but to break down the quantum physics of what type of foods you eat and whats inside them that makes your bones became brail and make u not walk anymore, ( yes i’m writing this instead of doing my work, but we all know who even cares whats in our foods, snacks, drinks, all i care about is that i’m eating) yes there might be lets say a 7% of those people that actually want to know whats inside their food, but i know this didn’t even make sense, all im saying is, im gonna fail this assignment and yeah…..good day, from random unacknowledged kid

  • I searched for this video after seeing it in a YouTube ad, just to say this. I like what this video touches on. It’s very explanatory but it doesn’t say “Lose weight or you will die”, it just helps, with a nice, happy animation tagging along. I tell people often, take the stairs instead of the escalator, stand up straight, and walk, if you’re just going to the store down the street, and other little things. They add up, and they really help you lose weight, plus it’s no work at all.
