Here’s what else you can do to keep your brain acting young as the years go by. Go fish. Findings published in the American Journal of Preventative Medicine show that eating fish once per week was positively associated with larger brain volumes.

Note that preparation matters: Fried fish didn’t deliver the same level of benefits as baked or broiled. 4. Improve your blood pressure. High blood pressure in midlife increases the risk of cognitive decline in old age. Use lifestyle modification to keep your pressure as low as possible.

Stay lean, exercise regularly, limit your alcohol to two drinks a day, reduce stress, and eat right. 5. Improve your blood sugar. Neurogenesis – the spawning of new brain cells (neurons) – continues throughout adult life in some areas of the brain.

12 Ways to Keep Your Brain Young. Let us now dive into the specifics of what we can do to keep our brain healthy, young, and smart – according to Harvard scientists! Symptoms of dementia include memory loss. Try to change your diet to one that includes ingredients that are good for your brain.

Foods with high levels of antioxidants are considered good brain food. So are foods that contain omega 3 and 6. You might also want to have a look at your intake of water to avoid dehydration. Mental decline is very common in people over 60 and its one of the things people fear the most about aging. But cognitive impairment -AKA memory loss – is not inevitable.

In fact, lifestyle choices have much to do with how our bodies, including our brains, will age. Here are 5 ways you can keep your brain young: 1. Stay Mentally Active. Try Something New. Doing something you haven’t done before is a perfect way to stretch and build your brain.

Try a new hobby, visit a new place, taste a new food, take a course, or start to learn a new language. These are great examples of things you can do to boost your brain capacity. That means cardio is the perfect medicine for your ageing brain. It keeps it young and healthy.

Cardio increases the supply of blood to the brain. Therefore, your mind will have adequate oxygen at all times to keep it active. Good Memory; People who exercise regularly have a healthy brain.

If you’re looking for ways to improve your memory, focus, concentration, or other cognitive skills, there are many brain exercises to try. Learn which evidence-based exercises offer the best brain. In his book Keep Your Brain Alive: 83 Neurobic Exercises to Help Prevent Memory Loss and Increase Mental Fitness, neurobiologist Lawrence Katz recommends using your non-dominant hand to strengthen your mind.

Because using your opposite hand can be so challenging, it can be a great way to increase brain. Exercise Keeps Your Brain Young, Study Finds getting regular exercise may be protective, helping them keep their cognitive abilities longer,” said Dr. Clinton Wright of the University of Miami.

  • “Amen has built a profitable business around the use of SPECT imaging for purported diagnostic purposes. His marketing of SPECT scans and much of what he says about the brain and health in his books, media appearances, and marketing of his clinics has been condemned by scientists and doctors as lacking scientific validity and as being unethical, especially since the way SPECT is used in his clinics exposes people to harmful radiation with no clear benefit.”

  • Thank you Dr Amen! You might have a great brain, but your posture!? Head hangs over the front of the body like an old man. What are you modeling? Stand up straight for God’s sake! You’re a leader in this industry. Imagine if our POTUS walked like that?

  • Caffeine is the most destructive drug of abuse to brains. Toxicologists are far more important than psychiatrists. They can explain the anomalies in nervous system and the endocrine system which are manifested as Alzheimer, psychosis, depression, anxiety and any other mental issues, and also most of the clinical lethal illnesses that are rampant in our world.
Caffeine accumulates in the body almost entirely and by neutralizing its toxic metabolites it is possible to get rid of many symptoms they cause, which are seen as illnessesMental disorders can be removed in 24 hours in best case scenario. Same happens with some symptoms of “ms-disease” and “ALS” and many other “illnesses”.
I have studied neuroendocrinology since 1975, patients who suffer from caffeinism induce illnesses from 1998, caffeine pharmacology and etiology of illnesses it causes, and the means to neutralize and remove the toxic caffeine metabolites from the body from 2008. I am still working with the cure, and advice patients pro bono, to get more knowledge of this matter, which is caused by worlds largest industries and known to medical science for more than 100 years.

Medical science doesn’t care your health, it cares your illnesses to make money and control the world.

    https://books.google.fi/books?id=ClOddDCcbGcC&pg=PA25&dq=caffeine+and+paraxanthine+were+equipotent&hl=fi&source=gbs_toc_r&cad=2#v=onepage&q=caffeine%20and%20paraxanthine%20were%20equipotent&f=false Benowitz et al, 1995 (side28)

“Long-term overuse of caffeine can elicit a number of psychiatric disturbances in adults. Two such disorders recognized by the American Psychiatric Association (APA) are caffeine-induced sleep disorder and caffeine induced anxiety disorder. In some individuals, large (ingestion of 500 mg caffeine or more) amounts of caffeine can induce anxiety severe enough to necessitate clinical attention. This caffeine-induced anxiety disorder can take many forms, from generalized anxiety, to panic attacks, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, or even phobic symptoms. Because this condition can mimic organic mental disorders, such as panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, or even schizophrenia, a number of medical professionals believe caffeine-intoxicated people are routinely misdiagnosed and unnecessarily medicated when the treatment for caffeine-induced psychosis would simply be to withhold further caffeine. A study in the British Journal of Addiction concluded that caffeinism, although infrequently diagnosed, may afflict as many as one person in ten of the general population (Nehlig et al. 1992).”

  • I would add it is important to restore your ability to burn fat as ketones to properly fuel your brain as prevention. If you are a 100% glucose burner from childhood your brain is starving and it will become critical when you develop insulin resistance. AD is the brain shutting down in self preservation from starvation.

  • Why does she remind me of Jackie from that 70’s show only years after as if she’s older now which in reality she would be, cus she’s cus like us all she’s got to age too.

  • Most ppl especially in the western world wants enjoyment in the NOW. They smoke, drugs, vice, sleep around with many partners, one nite stand whatever, and to them its enjoy NOW. Old age, when it comes I will sort it out later. So now you see lots of old old ppl in the western world all walking around with no purpose but using financial benefit offered by the government. By age of 60 or 70 they look like 100 years old with no purpose in life.

  • I have always retained a bit of the ‘child’ within me it keeps me enthusiastic, curious about things, and living life with an inquisitive nature. I look for the learning about all that I encounter; I strive to learn new words and use them for the next week till they become an integral part of my vocabulary I love words. It’s important to stay engaged with society; I love to make strangers laugh, I’ve got a gift for wit and I enjoy making myself and others laugh at a silly thing I choose to say! I purposely memorize passages of information, then recite them right now I’m memorizing “The Night Before Christmas” exercising my brain!

  • At 14:40 he says “like my football players.” I looked it up and apparently he has former football players among his clients. The danger to football players is not so much Alzheimer’s as dementia from brain damage. Two distinct disorders.

  • Sir I am a pediatrician, my mom is 61yr old and diagnosed Parkinson’s disease and she is on multiple drugs for it, she is having stooped posture and resting tremors on fingers, is there any cure for this or this disease is progressive as I know till now, please suggest, I would be very much thankfull to you sir. • I went to the doctor for ringing in my ears. They found nothing wrong with my ears including no hearing loss. However, I still have the constant ringing which is driving me crazy. Could there be something wrong with my brain? Any thoughts? Desperate for an answer.

  • I’m a lazy 21 year old college dropout that eats garbage and does nothing all day. I guess I’m gonna die of Alzheimer’s or sth when I’m older.

  • You had me up to the lady with ADD. I took a course study of ADD research at the Clark Institute in Toronto with Dr Jain. He and the Institute in California were the leading authorities in ADD research coordinating with the autistic Research Foundation in San Diego, in North America.
What you described was ADHD. Not ADD. They are polar opposites for the ability to focus for long periods of time, it easily distractedADD, and, ADHD the inability to focus and easily distracted. This is a common mistake that many make by grouping everyone together, but a very important distinction.

  • Really like your videos Dr. Amen and sharing on functional medicine. Have you heard of Protandim Nrf 2 activator? I also uses five natural compounds Milk thistle, Bacopa, Ashwagandha, Green tea and Turmeric to activate our body’s nrf 2 pathway to produce massive amount of antioxidants. Protandim is the only scientifically validated product proven to reduce oxidative stress in all mammals by an average 40% in 30 days. You may want to check out this video, very fascinating: John Quinones Investigates Protonium: ABC Primetime Investigative Report The AIXO brain food also has nrf2 technology. Dr. Fannin PhD describes the extraordinary changes he has witnessed through brain mapping in young ADD (attention deficit disorder) patients who have been activating both Nrf2 & Nrf1 pathways and drinking Axio for less than a few weeks in one of his videos.

  • She has a naive perception of what it is like to be retired, if she thinks retired people need “brain exercise” from her website to stay mentally active.

Contrary to myth, retired people get enough brain exercise, just from everything that we have to keep track of.

Retirees don’t watch television and vegetate, all day.

As a matter of necessity; all retirees had better being paying attention to their investments, insurance policies, their will, their choice of retirement destination, downsizing their possessions and ridding their homes of clutter, etc.

I have never been so busy with responsibility in my life, as I have been, since I retired. My mind is more active, in retirement, than it was during my working years.

Any retiree who needs “brain exercise” would do well to master all the investment advice at a brokerage website, like Fidelity Investments, than to be squandering time playing brain games at her so-called “anti-aging” website.

  • Is it not the case that Gingko Biloba can cause bleeding? Also a person can be fat, not solely from what and how much they eat, but from a metabolic, endocrine problem (e.g. (para)thyroid problems…)

  • This is great information but he talks as if everyone has the resources to change their brain or keep it healthy in a modern society. Do you have any idea how expensive good quality fish oil and ginko is. And if you’re buying it for a family of four, forget it. It’s cheaper to take anti-depressants. Not to mention the expense of organic foods, non-gmo foods, brain scans, doctor visits, or getting your house checked for mold and toxins. I don’t even want to know what this guy charges for a consultation but I’m pretty sure it’s out of my league.

These frauds are exploiting the desperate and unsophisticated suffers for their own fiscal enrichment! And we need equal wealth worldwide so everyone can begin to do everything right.
