About one third of adults do not get as much sleep as they would like. Poor sleep can mean: • Not being able to get off to sleep.. • Waking up too early.. • Waking for long periods in the night.. • Not feeling refreshed after a night’s sleep.. If you have poor sleep, particularly over a long period of time, it can severely affect your life, as it can cause: • Tiredness (fatigue) and loss of energy in the daytime.. • Poor concentration.. • Loss of interest in usual activities.. Irritability.. • Depression and anxiety.. • Inability to do things as well or as much as usual.. • A worse quality of life.. WHAT IS A NORMAL AMOUNT OF SLEEP? About 6-9 hours per night is average for most adults. Most people establish a pattern that is normal for them in their early adult life. However, as you become older, it is normal to sleep less. For most people it takes less than thirty minutes to fall asleep.. So, everyone is different. What is important is that the amount of sleep that you get should be sufficient for you, and that you usually feel refreshed and not sleepy during the daytime.. HOW TO SLEEP BETTER? Insomnia can often be improved by changing your daytime and bedtime habits or by improving your bedroom environment.. Making small changes may help you to get a good night’s sleep. Try some of the methods below for a few weeks to see if they help.. See your GP, Pharmacist or Nurse Practitioner if you’re still having difficulty getting to sleep after trying these techniques.. DAYTIME HABITS: • Set a specific time for getting up each day. Try to stick to this time, seven days a week, even if you feel you haven’t had enough sleep. This should help you sleep better at night.. • Don’t take a nap during the day.. • Exercise daily, but don’t exercise for at least four hours before going to bed.. BEDTIME HABITS: • Stop drinking tea and coffee for a few hours before bedtime.. • Avoid drinking alcohol and smoking, particularly shortly before going to bed.. • Don’t eat a big meal just before bedtime.. • Don’t use back-lit electronic devices shortly before going to bed.. • Don’t lie in bed feeling anxious about lack of sleep. Instead, get up, go to another room for about 20 minutes and do something else, such as reading or listening to soft music, before trying again.. • Write a list of your worries and any ideas to solve them before going to bed. Only way to get her to sleep is when she’s awake for very long. In total my baby sleeps around 13 hours a day, my pediatrician said that she’s over-stimulated but there’s nothing we can do that will make her sleep more.

When Im about to sleep, I close my eyes and think about all of the dumb and bad things I did in my life. This causes me to not get any sleep and it happens frequently.
My son haaaated swaddling, always, since the first day he was born. I tried it soooo many times. He hated a pacifier, hated bottles. He hated laying on his side, hated white noise. I used to have to lay him on my arm, on his tummy, right against me. Hahahaha. I feel like my son is not like the babies that love those techniques. I tried so many So glad he is 3 now and sleeps on his own.
This is BS when it comes to real insomnia. Had it since I was born and remember it continuously since the age of 3 (yes I do remember being 3) Had insomnia long before silly expressions like ‘sleep hygiene’ are banded about as a catch all phrase to throw at patients (cause you will catch them out with one or another of the things involved) Had insomnia before we even had a TV and decades before personal pc’s, iphones and laptops, when reading was the only pre bedtime pastime from 7pm on, when eating plain boring food was done at 5pm, years before I tasted anything with caffeine in it. Still have insomnia today and am over the age of 60. Doctors and anyone else for that matter tend to get angry when you present them with this stuff on account of it being an affront to their knowledge and lack of answers so they then throw the ‘sleep hygiene’ routine at you with a big dose of contempt. Also I have exercised early in the day for 3 decades now, dont eat heavy nor late and minimal caffeine. Have done Hypnotherapy, psychology, put my name down for a sleep clinic but waited two years and they canceled the appointment and sent me a printed sheet spelling out their usual routine for patients which turned out to be nothing other than sleep deprivation techniques which in fact made it worse, eg if stay up after 1am I will then stay awake all night and most of the next night. Some of us are stuck with it for life, a miserable one at that.
From experience.. It’s great for a quick fix but over time they become dependant on it.. So root cause of the problem first, then try this.. Just my experience… Doctor’s use this to calm quick to examine.. Our second child we are noisey as hell.. We dont so the shooshing thing anymore.. We just put on a sound machine to keep from passing out from doing the sound lol

listening to relaxation music also helps you sleep. switch on the music keep it low volume and just visualize yourself in your happy place. It might help you sleep fast. If you want try some from my channel too.

cold showers an hour or two before sleep help too. Also certain styles of yoga like hatha help a lot too. Shut the internet off in the phone and keep it outside of the bedroom.

Swinging: doesn’t matter how I swing her she doesn’t calm down.
Pacifier: She will suck it and goes to ‘sleep’, but she will spit it out and wakes up.
Only way to get her to sleep is when she’s awake for very long. In total my baby sleeps around 13 hours a day, my pediatrician said that she’s over-stimulated but there’s nothing we can do that will make her sleep more.

how about, you easily fall asleep, but when the time you wake up at anytime, i find it hard to sleep again that’s why i got 4-6 hours sleep.

This is BS when it comes to real insomnia. Had it since I was born and remember it continuously since the age of 3 (yes I do remember being 3) Had insomnia long before silly expressions like ‘sleep hygiene’ are banded about as a catch all phrase to throw at patients (cause you will catch them out with one or another of the things involved) Had insomnia before we even had a TV and decades before personal pc’s, iphones and laptops, when reading was the only pre bedtime pastime from 7pm on, when eating plain boring food was done at 5pm, years before I tasted anything with caffeine in it. Still have insomnia today and am over the age of 60. Doctors and anyone else for that matter tend to get angry when you present them with this stuff on account of it being an affront to their knowledge and lack of answers so they then throw the ‘sleep hygiene’ routine at you with a big dose of contempt. Also I have exercised early in the day for 3 decades now, dont eat heavy nor late and minimal caffeine. Have done Hypnotherapy, psychology, put my name down for a sleep clinic but waited two years and they canceled the appointment and sent me a printed sheet spelling out their usual routine for patients which turned out to be nothing other than sleep deprivation techniques which in fact made it worse, eg if stay up after 1am I will then stay awake all night and most of the next night. Some of us are stuck with it for life, a miserable one at that.
From experience.. It’s great for a quick fix but over time they become dependant on it.. So root cause of the problem first, then try this.. Just my experience… Doctor’s use this to calm quick to examine.. Our second child we are noisey as hell.. We dont so the shooshing thing anymore.. We just put on a sound machine to keep from passing out from doing the sound lol

Hi Thomas, coffee is also high in uric acid which causes gout. If you use decaf, then the uric acid is higher. Just a tip from someone who knows.

I have a the same problem i can’t sleep at night without taking sleeping pills i have been taking lexotanil and valium for 5 to 6 months and from few days before i had to take higher dose to get the same sleep which i was getting when i started taking pills but now I’m tired of this i don’t wanna take anymore sleeping pills so could you please suggest me how can i stop taking pills because i haven’t taken these for 3 straight days and in these 3 days i just slept for a while so could help me with this?

this is so true! trial and error for me:) i find soothing simple audio works very well and running it all night so if they do wake up the calming audio send them straight back! zzzzzzz
listening to relaxation music also helps you sleep. switch on the music keep it low volume and just visualize yourself in your happy place. It might help you sleep fast. If you want try some from my channel too.
One thing babies do better with swaddling is sleeping soundly, but also dying in their sleep. Yes, lo and behold, babies actually seem to not benefit from not being able to move. But I mean, if you think your baby’s life is worth risking for a good night’s sleep, good on ya!

Every baby is different though mine hates being swaddled he really fights against it, he spits out his pacifier i rather give him my nipple, soonest as you put him down to sleep, he wakes up again he feels more relaxed sleeping on ones chest, instead of fighting him and forcing him to sleep on his own i let him do whatever makes him comfy

They were violent and called the police. When I started taking pictures, one atrocious guard immediately said tell the police to delete all the pictures!!!
Three policemen from Chaiwan police station forced me to see the doctor at Pamela Youde hospital although it was my mother’s funeral on July 30, 2018!!! I had no idea how much money they took from my wallet, I heard the consultation fee is HK$180!!! They were taking orders from the horrible bunch of so-called security guards head!!! To my shocking surprise I ended up in the mental hospital!!! The real lunatic workers were so violent my handbag strap was pulled apart right away!!! Both my hands and feet were tightly bound and my brother was not allowed to talk to me when he arrived at the hospital until he told them he had already reported to the police (when he phoned the police, they said they did not know what’s going on and suggest him to contact the police in the hospital!!!) and would tell the media I have been illegally imprisoned before they finally let him see me!!! When I asked my brother to take pictures of me, one guy immediately came into the small room to threaten I will be sued if the pictures are leaked out!!!
I was not even allowed to go to the toilet and the men and women in the the lunatic hospital were even more rough and tough than the fierce security guards!!! They intended to leave me alone in a small room and just ignored me, even could not care less I was going to miss my mother’s funeral!!! I was treated 100% like a lunatic!!! My right arm has bruise marks and both arms are painful due the violant behaviour of the security guards, the policemen and the men and women from lunatic hospital!!! This is extremely barbaric and is actually illegal imprisonment!!! Hong Kong is indeed like hell these days!!!
