Witch hazel is a topical astringent derived from the bark and leaves of Hamamelis virginiana, the common or North American witch-hazel shrub.. Native Americans have long recognized the medicinal properties of witch hazel and used a decoction of the boiled plant parts to treat skin irritations and tumors. Nowadays this popular herbal remedy is recognized world-wide as a natural cleanser and toner, but witch hazel has many more uses than simply to clarify skin and shrink pores.. 1.Natural Astringent. High concentrations of tannins in witch hazel make it an excellent astringent which means it has the ability to remove excess oil from skin and shrink down pores. Health-wise, those who are exposed to lots of environmental pollutants may apply witch hazel to the face in order to reduce the amount of contaminants that enter pores and, consequently, the amount and severity of blemishes.. 2.Stop Bleeding. Witch hazel naturally tightens skin and promotes faster healing. Apply organic witch hazel to minor cuts and scrapes to stop bleeding. Store-bought witch hazel also often contains isopropyl alcohol which disinfects, making it a popular choice for cleansing wounds before bandaging.. 3.Hemorrhoid Relief. Witch hazel is great for easing the pain, itching, swelling, and bleeding of hemorrhoids. In fact, it’s a common ingredient used in many commercial hemorrhoid creams. Just mix witch hazel with a carrier like Aloe Vera gel and apply to affected areas for fast relief.. 4.Post Hair-removal. For both men and women, witch hazel is a great follow-up to shaving any part of the body. Not only will it stop bleeding from nicks or cuts, anti-inflammatory witch hazel can also work to prevent razor burn. Furthermore, those who employ hot wax treatments for hair-removal may also apply witch hazel as an anti-inflammatory post-waxing or use it to stop bleeding from damaged hair follicles.. 5.Fade Bruises & Blemishes. Witch hazel may also be used to treat blemishes already present on the face or other areas of the body. Apply witch hazel with a cotton ball or cosmetic pad to reduce irritation and appearance of acne or other inflammatory skin conditions. Witch hazel applied to bruises can also help to fade discoloration and speed up the healing process of any underlying damage.. 6.Shrink Swollen Veins. Soak soft terry cloth in witch hazel and lay over skin affected by varicose veins to temporarily reduce swelling and pain. Also, remember to prop up the areas to be treated as high as possible. This will decrease blood pressure in swollen veins and maximize the effectiveness of your treatment.. 7.Treat Damaged Gums. A witch hazel mouth rinse (don’t use witch hazel that contains isopropyl alcohol) can help to reduce pain and swelling of irritated or infected gums. Witch hazel can be used stop minor bleeding of the gums and mouth. The same treatment may also be used to soothe pain caused by emerging wisdom teeth or after oral surgery to reduce discomfort and inflammation.

If you’ve been searching for new additions to your natural skincare routine, you might have noticed that witch hazel is starting to make a comeback.. It’s best known for shrinking pores and easing inflammation, and witch hazel is already a key ingredient in a variety of beauty products. The medicinal anti-inflammatory and anti-viral qualities of witch hazel make popular for use in topical skincare.. But is witch hazel worth the hype—and more importantly, is it worth adding it to your medicine cabinet? This video will cover everything you need to know about the potential skin benefits of the natural formula.. First off, what is witch hazel, exactly? Witch hazel itself is a tree-like plant indigenous to North America and parts of Asia. Of course, when you use witch hazel in a bottle, that’s witch hazel extract, which is taken from either the bark or leaves of the plant. Once it’s harvested, the bark and leaves are distilled to bring out the active chemical compounds of the plant.. Like most other natural remedies, witch hazel is low-cost and easy to get your hands on, and, in general, it doesn’t cause adverse effects. This means if you’re looking to keep your skin happy and healthy, it might be worth giving it a whirl—especially if your skin is on the oilier side.. Now we know the basics about witch hazel, it’s time to get into more detail about its skincare benefits. Here’s what research and studies have found out about witch hazel so far.. 1. It can ward off signs of aging. If you’re looking for a natural way to firm up your skin and slow down signs of aging, like scars, redness, discoloration, dryness and puffiness around the eyes, witch hazel might be the perfect natural solution for you. It tightens skin and is protective against skin cancer, melanoma and other damage caused by UV light, thanks to its protective polyphenols and tannin antioxidants. These prevent the spread of melanoma cells and help protect healthy skin cells into older age.. You can use witch hazel in place of irritating chemical anti-aging products that are known to alter oil production and increase skin dryness. Witch hazel has been shown to help protect collagen and skin elasticity just as well as many commercial beauty products – and as an added bonus, it comes at a fraction of the price. Its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties make it great for maintaining the skin’s elasticity, while also helping you deal with the effects of environmental stress on your skin. And because using witch hazel for your pores helps them look smaller, this can make your skin appear more even.. You can easily blend witch hazel with vitamin E oil and other natural ingredients to make your own homemade anti-aging serum. Then apply it straight to discoloured skin, bruises, old acne marks and bites to help fade their appearance and reverse damage. For the best results, combine it with other skin-healthy oils like evening primrose, frankincense and tea tree oils.. 2. It can tighten pores. Witch hazel is a rich source of constricting compounds that make the proteins inside skin cells close in. While this result won’t last forever, it’ll temporarily makes your pores appear smaller without drying out your skin.. Try dabbing a bit of witch hazel onto your skin with a cotton bud before bed, then leave it to dry for five minutes. Don’t rinse it off once it’s dried. For extra healing benefits, apply another round of witch hazel to the same areas. Witch hazel is gentle enough that it can be used daily in place of an alcohol-based toner.. 3. It can clear acne. Witch hazel is extremely antioxidant-rich, thanks to its tannins content, which act as a natural astringent on the skin that can help to soak up excess oil. And since witch hazel is a natural cleanser, it’s capable of reducing bacteria growth on the skin, and can speed up the time needed to heal infections or scabs.. Another benefit for sensitive skin is that witch hazel helps stop sweating, and reduces the development of blackheads or whiteheads, which can contribute to breakouts and tempt you to pick at your skin. You can avoid irritating acne products altogether and instead use witch hazel, which should lower the severity of blemishes forming under your skin and prevent blackheads caused by oil build-up in pores.. How long it takes for witch hazel to clear acne depends on how severe someone’s acne is. It can take effect in just several days, but it could also take several weeks.. To try it out for yourself, put several drops of witch hazel directly on your skin wherever you notice a spot forming or where acne tends to break out. It’s even more effective when you use it in combination with other antibacterial agents, like tea tree oil, coconut oil or apple cider vinegar. Dab witch hazel on your skin with a clean cotton ball or cotton pads several times per day anywhere you experience irritation. Make sure to start slowly and give your skin time to adjust.

Nothing like good old fashion beauty routines! Witch hazel, acv, baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, olive or coconut oil, milk wash, rice water, some essential oils a jar of noxema, ponds, a bottle of oil of olay, some aloe vera gel and that’s about it. Don’t need anything else or way too expensive. Expensive marketing has tried to take over but eventually we all come back to them
thank you for this video. i have never heard about witch hazel before and it’s no surprise because this stuff doesn’t grow much in europe so i’ll have to find a importer online. i’m probably gonna give it a go anyways because i tried so many things against acne and nothing so far really helped. be well
I switched to using T.N. Dickinson’s brand witch hazel about 6 7 years ago! I wouldn’t use anything else. It Cleanses, tones, moisturizes the skin. My acne cleared completely also on my face. It Magic in a bottle. Cheap $8 at Walgreen’s and the bottle last for months. I rub it in my face in the am and pm, twice a day. Its so soothing and refreshing. I’m so in love with Witch hazel. Great video
Awesome information thank you! Copper is known to be the vein strengthener. I would google copper skin creams. Black walnut is also great for varicose veins. Cheers!
Yep in the salon we used it as a color remover on skin! After a wax on eyebrows an lip or any place to stop breakouts and redness! It’s a healer I used it on my grandfather’s arm to clean up the blood on the sore from falling and the next day it looked so good..Heald up fast!
For the homemade deodorant, I have a couple of old roller ball antiperspirant bottles stashed away waiting to be reused. Those plastic tops pop off. (They were the inspiration for the now defunct computer mice we all started with many years ago.)
I love witch hazel on my face. It feels good and it really helps control the oil in my T zone. Zabrena, you are so beautiful, by the way. I have to give the witch hazel in my shampoo trick a try. Thanks for this video!
I enjoy your videos immensely! I have learned so much from you and many of my purchases have been guided by your knowledge. My husband is thankful, because my health and beauty expenses have dropped. Thank you for all of your time, effort and expense to make the videos.
Great video! Just wanted to chime in that the reason natural deodorant might stop working for you it’s more that your body is purging toxins and the smell is toxins coming through. When I began taking high doses of vitamin c I was getting so much bad body odour and was using natural deodorant already for a year. After about a month the odour stopped. I’ll get it now and again if I’ve had a night out drinking or my diet is bad. I never want to use antiperspirant anymore and it stops you from sweating and therefore the toxins will stay in your body yuck!
I use witch hazel as an astringent I have minor breakouts after I cleanse my face I put witch hazel on a cotton swab and it helps me with the breakouts. Oily skin I love the stuff and it’s more less expensive than store brand astringents. I love this stuff. Thank you for making this video
First video I’ve ever seen of your and I just need to say, you’re freakin’ gorgeous!! Also, Yes that’s the best brand for witch hazel, IMO. I recently tried a different one because it was more cost effective for me, and NO THANKS to the smell, and it actually made my skin more oily:(
Thank you so much for sharing this! I purchased a bottle of the Thayer’s rose petal witch hazel and am amazed at how great my kin looks after use. I apply it after washing my face and my pores look so much smaller, my skin is so soft and just glows…where has this stuff been all my life? Thank you thank you thank you!! ☺️
Sooooooooo Epic, can’t wait to try it. Just “discovered” you today and I’m already through 3 playlists hope you’re feeling on the top of the world and up for more vids enthusiasm is piling up over here

I was lucky to not have suffered with pimples as a teenager. But when I did get the occasional pimple, I’d leave it alone for a day or 2, then pop it and squeeze the shit out. I’d then soak a tissue with witch hazel and gently press it into the opening of the pimple. It worked like magic
I starting using witch hazel on and off for about 2 weeks. And I didn’t get any acne at all this week. I woke up wondering why my skin was so clear. I forgot that I had used the witch hazel. So now I am definitely going to use it more regularly
Great video, very informative. I like Thayers brand. I’ve tried the Rose Petal and am going to try Lavender next. I love that they are witch hazel and aloe vera blends.
I had a doll with the same hair and eye color like you. You sound so genuine. There is something special about your channel compare with other Utube Beauty Gurus.
I so totally wrote down the deodorant recipe. The only natural deodorant that works for me is Crystal Essence. I’ve been trying tons of others, but this is worth a shot, because I have all of the ingredients! Thanks!
I use this instead of dry shampoo and it’s a really great product for that I was certainly amazed and it’s the one without alcohol and I could do it two days in a row
I have a question…do u use a face wash b4 using witch hazel? If so what would u recommend? also do u use a mosturizer & if so can u recommend what might b best? hopefully they aren’t expensive. Thanks!
I have this Witch Hazel with Rose Petals that I got at a health food place and it smells so nice. I use it for my face as it supposed to help cleanse and keep it nice.
If you react badly to Thayers as some do you might try Dickinson’s Enhanced Witch Hazel Alcohol Free with Rose Water, which also has aloe vera in it, too. It’s the one that I prefer when using witch hazel.
Hey girl love ur channel! Amazing video, ur so pretty! Jus SUBBED:) can’t wait to see more from u! I have a channel too wud love it if u check it out and support back? <3 stay in touch, XOXO
I like that it tightens the skin and shrinks the veins and cells and I’m left wondering if, when I’ve used it on the bags under my eyes, will it work on my double chin?!!
Could You or someone answer me this, I kinda hate the smell! What is the best oil scent not to strong not to mess with the great effects of the witch hazel? Anyone?
You really don’t need surgery what you need to do is put your legs up against the wall while you’re laying on your back and leave them up there for 20 minutes a day why you watch your favorite show or comedy and you will not have varicose veins. I’ve been doing that since my teens because one of my aunts or my mom suggested it and I’m 62 now and they do not have varicose veins never have! Not even when I was pregnant! You lay on your back put your both legs up against something Elevate them every single day. You will feel the difference in your legs not having us and pain will go away. Very simple
I just started an experiment of washing my face with only water and then using this…. followed by hemp seed oil as my moisturizer. I have sensitive, oily, acne prone skin. I’ll let you know how it goes.
How I love DIY videos & awesome that I found you, as I also use Witch hazel for so many things, as well as cleaning, stains etc.! I have liked, subscribed & rang that bell, did ya hear it ringing, lol… I would only suggest (For you & others that may not know, 😉 ) that you spend a bit more ca$h & be sure there is NO alcohol in your chosen Witch Hazel, unless your using it for cleaning around the house. I actually buy the Thayers witch hazel (Aloe Vera formula) with lavender, but next time I want to try the Thayers Rose witch hazel… Great video, love your personality as well, thank you & have a good one, l8er…
I used witch hazel when I got my belly button pierced!! I had the same brand she used in the video but mine was a spray bottle and I would just spray that on my belly especially when it was itchy or dry and it helped it heal very quickly!
Oh my favorite witch hazel use is to kill warts without leaving a blemish that alternative treatments leave. Basically suffocates them over a couple weeks times. Apply for 10 mins twice a day.
Hallo from Germany! I discovered your channel and I love it. This video is also great! I like your makeup in this video could you make please a tutorial from this. Thanks!
God girl! I know those veins are hideous! I havesuffered badly from it since early 20 ‘s now I am 43! I can’t wait to try the witch Hazel!!! Love your channel new to it but you rock!!!
Im using witch hazel as a daily toner and to stop irritation after shaving. I have pcos and so I have sensitive skin that grows to much facial hair. witch hazel as my toner/aftershave really soothes my skin and keeps down the redness. My skin has never been softer or smoother
Thank you for your video. It’s very helpful. I just started using it yesterday for irritated skin and it really works. I love it and now I don’t have to use medicine for rash that cost and arm and a leg. Thanks again.

WITCH! Lol, just kidding. I mean, unless you are, then that’s pretty cool. My skin is really sensitive, and shaving always gets me razor bumps and ingrowns. And apparently I’m allergic to wax as well, and electrolysis is too dang expensive. Any suggestions on hair removal?
My sister burned her finger while cooking… it was a few days after I had learned that WH would help burns stop stinging… and it did. I was so happy that I had taken the advice to put some WH in a small spray bottle to keep handy in the kitchen.
The witch hazel in the link says it contains natural grain alcohol… Can u please explain… Since the video says to avoid witch hazels containing alcohol… Thanks in advance.
Have you tried lemon juice for deodorant? It is great and is also the healthiest for your underarms. Lemon/lime juice also makes your under arms skin lighter as you continue to use it. Very effective. Thank you for your amazing video.:)
People say it doesn’t work and people say it does work but you know why that is because everybody is different and you have to shop around to find the most perfect moisturiser and body wash that suits you it’s the same with shampoos and everything else it’s like finding the right shade of Foundation that suits your skin. I do like witch hazel though x
You are so adorable and you present so well, I love witch hazel and have been bothered by a small amount of varicose veins behind my right knee and when learning that this little wonder also helps with my veiny problems I was so excited because I too always choose natural products first.
Thanks again for pointing out these other helpful uses, I cant wait to grab my bottle and start dabbing away I’ve subscribed so I can get all of your tipstake care
I use this but i have a breakout. I having pimples.. please reply me. I think i change my rosepital to lavender or original.. which toner of thayers for pimples and blackheads
I really like this video, when someone doesn’t like a product or it doesn’t work for them people say it’s bad and tell others they shouldn’t use it even if it may work for the other person.
Expensive marketing has tried to take over but eventually we all come back to them
They dont sell it in France, cause it is too strong it can damage skin and need doctor’s presciption which sucks. You guys are lucky
thank you for this video. i have never heard about witch hazel before and it’s no surprise because this stuff doesn’t grow much in europe so i’ll have to find a importer online. i’m probably gonna give it a go anyways because i tried so many things against acne and nothing so far really helped. be well
I switched to using T.N.
I love that it feels like she’s conversing with her viewers. I feel like I’m in a normal convo with her. Doesn’t feel scripted or fake, love that ❤️
For the homemade deodorant, I have a couple of old roller ball antiperspirant bottles stashed away waiting to be reused.
Whose the young girl cleaning her face half way through? You or your daughter? If its you then you look really young without make-up.
Thanks for the tips… I also want to say that you really don’t need heavy make-up as you look pretty already make-up free. ( 3:49)
Sooooooooo Epic, can’t wait to try it. Just “discovered” you today and I’m already through 3 playlists hope you’re feeling on the top of the world and up for more vids enthusiasm is piling up over here
i use tayers cucumber alcohol free after shaving cause it seems to help with the healing and feels great helps with the burn of the aftershave that contains alcohol cause somehow closes the pores so i dont feel the alcohol burn i love tayers cause its not distilled. like other cheaper brands so i recommend it i get mine online for abput 10 bucks delivered for 6 ounces of it great stuf its like magic made by witches
Do you know if it helps with discoloration with skin? As in when parts of your face peels, some parts are lighter than the others?
Thanks for this great info. For years I have diluting rubbing alcohol and use on my face after I shave. Smh. Now I know…Also I love how u weave essence of your personality into the video. You rock. Keep adding value♂️♀️
Witch hazel is amazing. I recently threaded my face and had a major breakout. I used witch hazel and you see the difference the following day
I love the Dickinson pore perfecting. I use it am and pm after I wash my face. It picks up any traces of dirt my face wash left behind
I have bad allergies and bags will always be present girrrrl I am a witness my bags are gone skin tight I even use it on my neck area and also on my legs for cellulite use this twice a day it really works ❗️❗️❗️
Puffiness around eyes,✔anti aging,anti inflammatory,✔tighted pores✔,it heals infections✔,reduce blackheads and redheads,✔Thank you so much for great benefits✔
Anyone?
is there an expiration date limit on witchhazel” because I found a bottle in my house, it belonged to my Mom’s but she passed away over 2 years ago?
Thanks!
The tattoo parlor I get my piercings at always perceives witch hazel twice daily on the new piercing. It works wonders and aides the healing process.
Great information on the witch hazel!!!!! Finally, something I can use on myself that is easy to grab at your nearby drug store!!!!!! I love it!!!! I already have the lavender oil at home that I I love to use for my aromatherapy!!!!!! Im off to buy my witch hazel!!!! Thanks JewelsyCakes!!!! Im subscribed!!!!! Love your informative videos!!!!!!!! You ROCK!!!!
