Eat smart. A healthy diet full of heart-smart foods is essential to a healthy heart and lifestyle. Salmon, nuts, berries, and oats are just a few of the heart “superfoods” that may help reduce the risk of atherosclerosis.

Dark chocolate is also on the list and is a great way to satisfy a sweet tooth (in moderation). 7. Cut back on salt, limit alcohol to no more than one to two drinks a day, favor healthy eating habits (think fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein) manage your stress, and work out. Wear red and encourage others to do the same to bring awareness that heart disease is the leading cause of death in the U.S., but that it’s largely preventable.

View National Wear Red Day Resources. Keeping your blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, and triglycerides in check is important for good heart health. Learn the optimal levels for your sex and age group. Take steps to reach.

Learn what to look for at the grocery store, restaurants, your workplace and any eating occasion. Make healthy, delicious choices every time you eat. Move More.

A good starting goal is at least 150 minutes a week, but if you don’t want to sweat the numbers, just move more!Eating one extra fruit or vegetable a day, and cutting out one sugar-sweetened beverage can drastically reduce stress on your heart. Check your blood pressure and cholesterol levels regularly. See a doctor once per year for a physical, especially for anyone over the age of 40. Here are some tips to make the most of a heart healthy diet.

Use water or a small amount of vegetable oil to sauté vegetables. Olive and canola oils are best. Avoid frying, especially deep-frying. Other heart-healthy cooking methods include poaching, steaming, roasting, baking and boiling. Toss a few egg yolks.

Maintain a Healthy Diet. Include a variety of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy products and lean protein sources (poultry without skin, seafood, processed soy products, nuts, seeds, beans, peas). Avoid foods and beverages that are high in fat, sugar and sodium. Get 6-8 hours of sleep at night. A recent study found that getting too little or too much sleep is bad for the heart, increasing one’s risk for heart disease. (Read study here.) However, there’s.

The Centers For Disease Control (CDC) recommends these easy tips for preventing heart disease: Eat a healthy diet. Choosing healthful meal and snack options can help you avoid heart disease and its complications. Be sure to eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables—adults should have at least 5 servings each day.

  • Simple tips to look after ur heart”
replace dairy milk with almond milk or oat milk
save sugary treats like drinks, cakes and refined breads for occasional treats
    eat more wholegrains

  • I go to lots of lectures to learn about my health, mainly my depression and bipolar. The WORST thing is when the lecture ends, and we have to Q&A. I was so glad when the main talk ended, and Q&A started:) very good!

  • Sadly we are still misled by the government and our recommended diets are still SAD!!! It is so difficult to get patients to understand how much they can do for themselves by just eating a plant based diet!

  • Diet Plan known as Custokebon Secrets kept appearing here on many youtube and I thought they were scams. However after my cousin follow it, and finally lost lots of weight by using it without starving herself. I’m persuaded. Don’t take my own word for it, search for Custokebon Secrets on google.

  • Hi morning. My name is Debra I was diagnosed on May 21st 2020 with a heart attack. The doctors took a CT Brain and saw I had a small stroke without I knowing so time pass. They want me to take warfarin pills but I find it has to much risk. Can I follow a food menu and get the same result. Can you sent me a diet plan thank you.

  • I did not like the long background to get the conclusion. Data can be explained quickly and focus on the solutions to avoid be lost in the details.

  • See like I’m all down to cut down on meat eating….but the alternatives taste horrible. I think I dislike more vegetables than like by a ratio of 4:1. There’s maybe 3 I can think of I actually think don’t taste disgusting.

  • I’m not overweight but I know I’m unhealthy. I’m very fussy when it comes to food, I love foods high in sugar and salt, I can only eat salads if they have a nice tasting dressing on top, I really need to change my ways now, I’m physically active so I just need to give up the sweets and crisps (potato chips, I’m British) and then I’m good to go.

  • This guy needs to debate dr. Jason Fung the Canadian kidney specialist
who is all about high fat/low carb…lots of his videos on You tube
2 doctors quoting studies that prove their case and arguing for the opposite diet
So hard for the layman to sort out what to do

  • She says 400 times but the screen says 400% greater which is 4 times the rate. Then she does the same thing with the 200% greater.

  • I do eat primarily fruits and vegetables and nuts and I love sourdough bread with my havarti cheese and I’m not cutting that out. I also like to eat meat on occasion. I eat boiled eggs as well

  • Not so fast, Dr. Greger! Of course, a plant-based diet will help prevent coronavirus. “Underlying conditions” are the reason most die of COVID-19. Those underlying conditions? Let’s see, obesity, heart disease, diabetes, cancer -on and on. Treat (cure) the underlying conditions and we are stronger and our immune systems can fight off germs & viruses more aggressively.

  • I eat 3 eggs per day and I fast 23 hours a day. How am I suppose to eat only 3 eggs a week, too little. Eggs got bad rep but they are super food

  • I am always disappointed in these so called healthy heart videos. In order to eat healthy for your heart one needs to remember this: no oil (including margarine of any sort), no salt and no dairy! When cooking, instead of using oil use vegetable broth.

  • My problem is I am a meat and potatoes guy and it’s just so hard to get the same full feeling on this diet. I never had a problem with weight but my cholesterol is through the roof. I would eat 9 meals a day if I could

  • It’s so difficult to listen to a robotic reading of text versus just talking about it. Especially when its just from the left or from the right speaker. But thank you for the information.
Seriously, by the end of the video i was upset with the sleepy music and monotone reading of text. PLEASE make your videos easier to listen to! You know the advice you need to give, just TALK IT OUT, instead of writing it down and droning it out, I implore you. You will reach many more people that way.

  • yes, i like his humor. although i have had to get used to his delivery. check out his website https://nutritionfacts.org/ and his youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/user/NutritionFactsOrg. i subscribe to everything he posts.

  • there are a lot of doctors out there advocating lots of stuff. some sound reasonable because they seem to want to monetize their advice. i am suspicious. i trust this guy. today i am going to buy “how not to die” and the cookbook by greger. i borrowed “how” from the library and realized that i want to own it.

  • So is the guy at the beginning of the video at the right corner of the screen, bottom right corner of the screen product placement? Lol

  • I’ve been vegan for 6 years. In that time: my asthma is completely under control, I haven’t had a lung infection ( I used to get them 3x a year, I haven’t had a UTI, my blood pressure is normal, and I just over all feel amazing. But I make sure to take my B12 and vegan DHA.

  • Hi there! This is a great video! My greatest strength in
    physical fitness has been walking!
Walking has served me well since I was a young kid.
If you get into the routine and ‘own’ the knowledge that
walking = heatlh, you will benefit for the rest of your life.
Running comes next for me; but getting my knees in shape
for it was something else! Nutritional support is what is
keeping my knees healthy to carry me!
    Love it!

  • These low-fat morons aggressively pushing unnatural low-fat diet caused an explosion of heavily processed junk and the epidemic of obesity. Now they realized their mistake and instead of looking at the data and correcting, they doubled down. Now it’s not enough to eat the low-fat Mediterranean. Now you need to be low-fat vegan. Nobody eats like this, it’d disgusting, unnatural and wrong.

  • Thank you for this excellent information. A library of a variety of resources relevant to improving heart health for seniors is available here: http://gracehomecare.com/category/heart-health/

  • The information about fats was a little over simplified I think. Nuts are good, because of their saturated fats. So, saturated fats are not all bad! Coconut oil can be very good for health.

  • He looks so unhealthy and malnourished. If he would simply listen to his body and eat animals, he would not need to read all of those bullshit studies. He would look healthy and I could take him seriously. This guy is a fool.

  • Just like E cigarettes that the NHS in endorses to give up smoking however I had an asthma attack when someone blew smoke on me and had to go to the hospital

  • Several of the studies he is referring to are not representative. The cigarette and chicken one is for instance far from. This just makes it all more complicated for us..

  • This is so true
My sister left her tongue be re-injured for seven months without going back to the dentist and now has stage 2 tongue cancer and has had to have surgery had her lymph notes out and radiation therapy it will take her years to recover all because she didn’t go to the dentist to get it checked out properly. Also it’s rubbish food like cardboard rye Ryvita but she is overweight so that makes sense if you have more cells there is more likelihood you would get cancer. So it seems like our lifestyles of the problem and the fact that we ignore her health at the expense of not having to deal with it

  • I’m a Filipino who is taking my senior year at a local university. And I’m learning a lot from this video for free.

    Maraming salamat UCLA

  • Why was I always sick and tired on a vegan diet?
Tried it from age 16-28 and kept getting sicker and sicker. Started eating meat a few times a week and all my health problems went away and suddenly had more energy and brain processing power than I’ve had in years.

  • The last question is very important. Can someone elaborate more? My father has stage 4 kidnei CA, the nutritionist is giving him prowey me and I think is accelerating the grout of the CA. Thanks.

  • I been full vegetarian for 5 years. Lost so much fat & never gained it back. This informative video is really making me cross over to vegan! End of the month

  • thx god i go fast walikng everyday and i have a valve murmur caused with drugs thx for d video and yes i feel better with execize

  • I read loads of great reviews on the net about how exactly Custokebon Secrets (do a google search) will help you lost a ton of weight. Has anyone tested out this popular weight loss system?

  • Damn, 3 years ago I really believed in his work, I thought he was telling the true truths about nutrition. Then at some point I learnt how real research works. And now all I see here is a crap ton of BULLSHIT. It may sound all informative and helpful, but he’s mixing facts with nonsense in such a way that people without a scientific background can’t tell the difference. Shame that Google gave him a platform to spread this shit even further.
