  • additionally, i’ve found that people tend to unintentionally aim at what they see. if you focus on one thing you will become that. if you focus heavily on not being your father so much so that all of your thoughts pertain to being the opposite of your father you will become your father because that being is the only one truly on your mind and the only one you see

  • I was actually a programmer for 2 years, then some family situations and stuff I had to deliver a project on time. My stackoverflow and github accounts are deleted and my IDE’s banned me indefinitely. I tried to get back with notepad but my eyes bled because of the light theme.

  • I have a colleague, with the first sign and I got his task on top of mine which I have no idea what’s about in the first place so I spent 70 to 80 hours a week and weekends just to deliver. I didn’t even have the time to complain since they only have 2 programmers. I still worked in the hospital when I got kidney stones, mostly replying emails because I can’t type with a needle in my left hand.

  • It is interesting to note that the more famous JBP has become, the more boys crowd the front rows in the videos. It really shows how much the more aggressive way to express ideas makes an impact.

  • Students of Zen live with their masters for decades, after all Zen is “not as easy as learning how to ask a girl out or how to ride ones bicycle. “
    This koan is famous:
“Nan-in was visited by Tenno, who, having passed his apprenticeship, had become a teacher. The day happened to be rainy, so Tenno wore wooden clogs and carried an umbrella. After greeting him Nan-in remarked: ‘I suppose you left your wodden clogs in the vestibule. I want to know if your umbrella is on the right or left side of the clogs.’ “
Well, Tenno didn’t pass this simple (?) attention-test and stayed with master Nan-in for many years.

To find one’s place between order and chaos is a matter of health and meaning. JBG who has a grip on a huge wealth of teachings by previous masters, obviously knows how to reach the distressed young men of today. He is the father that knows and cares, and is willing to share with other men in a way they can receive, by challenging, not “helping”. It is a delicate matter.
