YOU’LL BE MORE PHYSICALLY ACTIVE DURING THE DAY Some research suggests morning exercisers move more during the day, which is an important factor in weight loss. After all, physical activity accounts for 15–30% of your total caloric expenditure, according to a review in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise. Every morning, gyms throughout the country are packed with exercisers determined to rise and grind, and squeeze in an early workout to. The best time of the day to exercise for weight loss is the morning and the best time to workout for muscle building is the afternoon.

Exercising in the afternoon can give you better performance than exercising in the morning. If you want to loose fat however, it is best to do cardio on an empty stomach or after ingesting some protein and a fat burner. This is because your body has been without food for 8 hours, and there is little more than fat in your body to be burned for energy.

The best time of day to workout for your health and energy levels according to exercise scientists [email protected] (Stacy Lu) 18 hrs ago. The best types and poses for weight los. Morning. A morning run makes it more likely you will fit a workout into a busy day.

If you plan an afternoon workout, work or family obligations may interfere. You may also lose your enthusiasm as. The truth is that there’s no reliable evidence to suggest that calories are burned more efficiently at certain times of day. But the time of day can influence how you feel when exercising. The most.

If you exercise in the morning, ideally weight yourself before exercise. If you weight yourself after exercise, you will be taking into account fluid loss from sweat, and that can vary from day to day. Stay with the same time and same scale. Although the morning is the most common time for weighing yourself, it doesn’t really matter what time.

“Some of the best exercises for weight loss are full body compound movements cycled with cardio sessions,” says Brooke Taylor, a certified personal trainer founder of. Working out in the morning — especially on an empty stomach — is the best way to burn stored fat, making it ideal for weight loss.

  • I work out first thing in the morning before my meal. If I do, it makes me feel more energized through out the day. I used to be tired in the afternoon for workout but now that I’m in ketosis, it may actually work for me to work out in the evening! I will try if my schedule allows.

  • Great vid doc. And let’s not forget optimal sleep. There are studies showing men sleeping 8 hours per night to burn more than 40% of the amount of fat compared to men sleeping 4 hours per night. Pretty crazy.

  • Gonna try my hardest not to workout every day see what happens. Im 35 can curl 30 lbs and deadlift 130 you would think I’d be big like a man right but no. What do you think about smoking weed before a workout? I love it!!!!

  • Hello!Cassy, how you doin? I have a question. I am 15 years old now. One of my cousin told me, if I use weights at this age I will not grow taller. Is it true? If not, what type or how much weight will be appropriate for me?

  • Hey… what all this videos mean to people that have a irregular life? Like me, works all night, go to gym after work and then lunch and go to sleep.??? Can you explain or help thousands thousands of people like me???

  • GOSH i was having a hella bad day and i decided to workout and ended up crying while crunching, and it yea i thought it would help but yea….

  • on normal days i won’t ever think of working out more than once a day, with no rest days at all in a week. but due to current situation, my typical daily activity rate is near to zero (work from home, staying at home as much as possible etc) when usually I can hit 10k steps a day without battling an eyelid. This is why I started working out twice a day, a short 20 mins (nothing intense, just simple cardio or lightweight resistance) before I break my fast during lunch (i’m also doing intermittent fasting) and than an hour of jogging or other form of cardio strength or circuit training in the evening before dinnertime. I still squeeze in a “rest day” per week whereby instead of evening jog, I go for a walk instead. Is this still too much?

  • I dunno. I work out in the morning and evenings and honestly don’t see the difference. Granted, I’m just lifting weights so no cardio

  • Been binge watching some videos. I’ve lost 92 pounds but the last six months I’ve plateaued even though I’ve been doing everything right.. I have 50lbs more before I reach my goal of 130lbs. I’ve started losing again since incorporating intermittent fasting!

  • This is silly I mean, sure if you have no job and are independently wealthy. But, you should probably just workout whenever you can fit it in consistently. If its morning, then do that… No way in hell HIIT is worse for you than a walk in the morning, sure it spikes some hormones, but this guys is talking like exercise is 80% hormones at 20% effort when in reality its probably 95% effort and 5% hormones.

  • thank you so much for your video. it was really informative and actually corrected some beliefs i had before about working out. i’m going to apply your tips on my weight loss journey and will sure hope to see the improvements! ❤

  • What are your thoughts on yoga? It’s a lot of slow stretching, like I would think doing yoga in between hiit days would be a nice balance

  • 1. Don’t exercise when your muscles are sore after working out.
    2. You don’t need to exercise more than once a day.
    3. Don’t workout when you’re sick.
    4. Don’t workout when you are stressed.
    5. Don’t do an intense workout before going to bed.
    6. Don’t workout after bad sleep.

    You’re welcome.

  • I just do home workout right now and so I can only do exercises with my dumb bell and do no equipment exercises. And normally, I choose to do HIIT exercises for with dumb bell and without. Is it ok if I do whole body with the dumb bell MWF and whole body without equipment workout on TTHS? Each only lasts for 20 to 30 minutes and I have separate exercise for my abs that’s only for around for 8 minutes. I want to build muscle but I don’t have a way to lift heavier since gyms are still not allowed
Is this ok? I mean, can I still gain muscle?by the way the work out are the same for now. And if ever, when should I change the exercises? Is it after a month?

By the way, here’s the exercises with dumb bell:

    • 20 DB Front Lunges

    • 20 DB Romanian Deadlifts

    • 10 Thigh Slap Jumps

    • 20 DB Rows

    • 20 DB Floor Presses

    • 20 DB Sit-Ups

    • 10 DB Overhead Presses

    • 20 DB Overhead Extensions

    • 20 DB Curls

    2 rounds

    and my no equipment(somewhat exercises)

    • Push up 15rp

    • Jump squat 15rp

    • Back extension (towel) 15rp

    • Pistol squats 10rp each leg

    • Pike push ups 15rp

    • Bicep curl (I use dumb bell here) 15rp

    • Deep push ups 15rp

    • Bicycle crunches 45sec

Break time 60sec between each exercise

    Repeat 3 rounds

  • I’m not a morning person and I once tried to workout early in the morning and I ended up cheating it and sleeping on the floor. I’m more energetic and motivated during the afternoon around 1-3 PM that’s why I decided to enjoy first my morning and work really hard in the afternoon and then sleep well in the evening.

  • I can’t explain it but I absolutely love your videos! they really focus on the things that truly make a difference and they’re so informative and entertaining! never stop doing vids

  • I have two training sessions. 1 cardio 2 resistance training. What is the optimal time frame for these, currently I do weightlifting first because well established people in the fitness industry believe that doing cardio first duducts from you training performance in the weight room.

My cardio consists of a 10k run.

Resistance training is a ppl spilt.

    I train 6 days a week.

  • Serious question Dr. Bergs im a new subscriber love your channel me and my wife workout at 10pm because i get off at 6pm and and the gym is crowded at that time. Is 10pm okay or should i really try to go little bit earlier and if that time is okay should i eat something light that has protein because that point its almost midnight and i like build lean mass is what i shoot for and i have pretty fast metabolism. My wife is trying intermediate fasting cuz shes looking to shed some weight. So should she not eat after the gym? Sorry for the paragraph thank you for your time.

  • Oh my gosh I just started working out at 3 PM as per this advice and I can now fall asleep like a baby! I usually have really bad insomnia.

  • Please tell me the right time to exercise in relation to the time of food intake. I eat breakfast usually at 12 noon. So what time should I do my work out? Thank you.

  • Mai morning walk krti hn half hour Fajar k bad…r usky bad thora workout krti…..about half hour k bad so jati…is it Right???

  • I’m an evening person with that. I actually beat an hour of different (beginner) exercises in the evening, but at mornings I’m not motivated. Just tired and grumpy:D

  • I got school from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm and I take a bus so I need to get up like 6:00 am now the questiob is: How am I suppose to slip the workouts on a busy schedule but at the same time burn fats and calories?? please someone answer

  • I actually work out in the morning because I sweat much more and since I only work out 45mins (Blogilates+Cardio) I feel quite energized. I used to be an afternoon work out person but after starting low carb, I started to be able to even work out in the morning. But it took me some time and water to adapt

  • I usually work out at around midnight because I don’t fall asleep until around 2 or 3. I feel like it might be bad to sleep right after a workout tho

  • I tend to work out right after I wake up in the morning and on an empty stomach. After I eat I tend to feel very sluggish and tired, so I find working out at noon to the evening very inconvenient.

  • This is very informative! You explained these very well. I just started working out and this is very helpful! Thank you very much

  • I love to work out in the morning especially if I had time before school or work, but I have been told that your body may take energy from burning muscles!
    Is that true??

  • Workout both shifts days or nights as varied on the schedule for my lifestyle. I do Zumba class evenings and some days weights. Having maintain weight for one year and can say is working for me but will not work for everyone. A dietitian told me that doesn’t matter what time as long you get the physical activity in the 24hr period as long not 2-3 hrs before bedtime.

  • I tried working out first thing in the morning on an empty stomach a few times and I literally almost fainted each time… Worst feeling ever! Practically fell off the treadmill! I wouldn’t recommend that. Thanks for the video Cassey:)

  • I always do my exercise at 8:30am, I always feel more motivated in the morning. Sometimes I feel really hungry but I don’t want to eat a big meal because then everything gets mixed up and I start feeling bad. But I do like eating a banana before my work out!
    I hope this is helpful!

  • I had this on mute by accident when I stayed watching it, and I knew she was American by her animated hand / face gueatures. weird huh

  • that’s nice and all but I work night shift till 11pm. its not very beneficial for those people work late hours. not all of us have a 9 to 5 job.

  • HIIT is OK for thyroid types, right? I want to promote kettlebells to a couple of thyroid people, but not sure if it’s OK for them.

  • That is true however there is more to that.  Your bodies first choice of energy is Glucose (basically carbs)  however the second choice of energy is Fat… ONLY if your glucose is balanced…If it is not and most likely its not if you workout on an empty stomach your body will NOT burn fat but burn muscle.  Fat is only released in your blood stream so that your muscles can use it as energy once your blood sugar is balanced. meaning eat prior to working out.

  • Great video for infomration. But just a side note to everybody that is trying to find out ALL THE ANSWERS from Youtube videos etc, give up on trying to do everything “perfectly” you gotta do what works for you and your own life and routines. Don’t rearrange you whole life just to train in the evening if you rather work out in the morning, there wont be a noticeable difference..

  • I disagree wioth not working out when your stressed, sometimes stress can last years because of your situation, so your not suppose to work out ever? you should do something like running which makes you forget about stress. Exercise can greatly help. Everything else I agree with.

  • WOW purple is my fav color, and Cassey is beatiful. Anyway naturally the best time to workout is in the morning & there r many reasons for it. #1 if u waited & waited during the day cuz ure lazy, not feeling it, alot of things might occur, like ur friends call to meet up, or you have to do stuffs around the house, afterward u got tired or u might eat foods and filled you up, u dont want to workout with a bunch of foods in ur gut ect ect,,, try to avoid empty stomach workout. Sure u might burn few extra calories here and there but when ure hungry and have to workout, thats not fun more like forcing urself to workout (geez i dont even want to do anything if im hungry, let alone working out:)), remember u have to enjoy working out in a fun way to keep it going for a long run. So nothing wrong with having a healthy snack/ power bar/ or a lil bit of milk & cereal, then 20-30 mins after start to workout, the foods does not digest that fast so u wont burn the food instead of calories. So at the end of the day aslong that ure working out is good overalls dont matter when. THANK YOU

  • I think it’s best to do cardio in the morning, but then later on in the day when u might have more energy do Pilates or weights to tone it up. Cardio in the morning is DEF going to help you lose fat.

  • Please tell me if im wrong doing this two different sets of workout everyday since the quarantine started.

This is the exercise im doing every morning (2sets) 40/20
    Hanging leg
    Leg flutters
    Side to side mountain climbers
    In and out

And this is the exercise im doing before i sleep (3 sets) 40/20
    Seal jacks
    Push ups
    Forward lunges
    Abs hip raise
    Jumping jacks
    Mountain climbers
    Close squats
Burpees and im doing 18/6 IF everyday.

  • Cassie, what do you think of protein shakes as supplements? Do you think they are effective along with working out and clean eating?

  • I love your clean eats, and I love you. I dont really eat fruits, and especially that darn oatmeal that makes me gag every time I shoe them inside my mouth, but thanks to your vids on foodbites, I’m eating healthy <3 More foodies to go!!!! Please.

  • I prefer working out when I wake up. It just makes me feel good and keeps me motivated to eat clean for the rest of the day, but that’s just me. I’m just scared for when school comes around because then I have to workout in the afternoon and I don’t know why, but that stresses me out.

  • I am definitely NOT a morning person but I still do my simple morning workout because it makes me feel good after. Also the post workout cold shower is awesome:p Morning workouts also makes me look forward to my more intense evening workout sessions!

  • I don’t have time to workout in the mornings because I have school so I workout in the afternoon when I’m home from school. After an hour of relaxing I get into my workout for the day and I feel the most energetic then too, even though when I’m in school I feel like dying..so yeah I’m definitely an afternoon kinda girl

  • I thought you want to do the HIIT in a fasting state. How do you do that at night if your eating window is 1 to 8p. I guess i shorten that window. I thought the big benefit was exercise during fasting.

  • Mujhe ye puchna hai ki khane k kitne ghante baad exercise karsakte hai mai first time kriu to isiliye puchna chahti hoo.or bahut log kehte hai ki jab b exercise kare tab stomac khali rahe waqt hi karna chahiye isiliye.puchriu mam plz bataye ye..

  • I’m definitley not a morning person but I find I burn the most fat when I wake up and do cardio. It’s a little hard at first but after a few workouts my body got used to it.:) helped me loose 30+ pounds:)

  • I tried to wake up and work out one morning..literally just fell back on the bed 2 seconds after I got up. Im more motivated around 4 PM

  • I am definitely a morning person. The later it gets, the harder it is for me to motivate myself to do a workout. I don’t know why but on an empty stomach I feel really energetic. The workouts make me feel even more energetic and I can carry that feeling throughout the rest of day:D

  • On my university days, I work out at 6am. But generally speaking I get my most energy at night. Around 10am onwards! So I often do a couple of the harder workouts then.

  • I can only workout in the late afternoon because I have school the whole day and if I wanted to workout in the morning I had to get up at 5.30 am >.<

  • can you help me? because I always keep having breakouts on my foreheads everytime I do workouts. I don’t wear make-up, I wear headband to avoid my hair getting on my face, I also cleanse after I workout but I keep having a small pimple on forehead. why?

  • This is exactly what I wanted to hear. I’ve been trying to workout first thing in the morning and it’s always been a struggle. I am going to give this evening workout suggestion a go. Thanks Dr Berg!

  • I just browsed on YouTube best time to exercise.as always there came a lot of options with millions of millions of views and yours as well…but mam I choose urs because I just trust u and ur videos are always helpful…thank u

  • I agree that evening is the best time of day to workout. Not only will your recovery be better but your joints are not as stiffed as they are in the morning and it also helps you with stress relief. You’re also more pumped and energized in the evening.

  • So even if you hate working out in the morning, if you do workout in an empty stomach you burn more fat right? I mean does the theory apply putting your feelings and stuff aside?

  • Hiya, have you discovered Hexcul Ripped Max? (Go Google it) You will find out about the crimes we commit against our bodies. With Hexcul Ripped Max, you will discover how to get ripped fast.

  • I prove it % because I did this exactly to lose 30kG over 1 year. And I’m not a scientific or someone special just a women who applied this and i can tell it works!! Thx for spreading this information.

  • I used to workout in the evening, which later lead to midnight exercise. But then I noticed that I didn’t need the extra energy at night, my body needed to rest…because sleep is essential for a flat stomach:) so morning runs and exercise for me:D

  • Shawn Stevenson says that the best time to exercise is the early morning, in order to help circadian rythm (cortisol should wake us up in the morning and working out stimulates the production of cortisol. This way we have high cortisol in the morning and low cortisol in the evening). Except that Stevenson talks about weight lifting, not HIIT… Is he right?

  • Coronavirus’s vaccines are said to have been developed in China and US today, however, it might take some time, maybe a month or two, for further trial test/mass production etc…. Maybe it would be a good idea to have a video on measures people could take to minimise the risk of catching the virus, including the best diet to have a stronger immune system etc..

  • Dr Berg, they say If I workout late I may have troubles sleeping. Also a doctor I know says that i should exercise 4 hours after eating so exercise can increase leptin. What do you think?

  • I workout in the morning with empty stomach, before going to work (3 times per week), for 10 years and i love it. I feel energetic. Before, i did workout after work, around 6 pm and i hated it because i always felt tired.

  • This info is just plain wrong. you will not burn muscle working out with empty stomach…Do the research of late. Watch Thomas DeLauer videos. He is actually backing his stories with clinical research which he posts in the “more info below”

  • My problem is.. I have the most energy at around noon or 1pm. Mornings I’m tired and afternoons I’m tired, evenings I tend to pick up more energy but still have less energy than midday. I feel best when I workout midday say on the weekends and on off-days for work, but the problem is, this disrupts my work day if I do midday workouts everyday! I try to workout earlier so I have more time for my work midday, but I always end up working out midday because my energy picks up then I’m left behind on my desk work.:/ I tried working out during the evening but I feel it just took away all my “relaxation time” although I got a lot more done desk work wise during the day. It’s a dilemma!

  • i thought you were supposed to eat smaller meals more often, hes saying eat 3 times a day? which one is it? so many people so the opposite of each other i never know whats what

  • The one thing I have noticed is that all of your videos are linked to something you sell…Where Thomas DeLauer is open and says it like it is, he recommends products he believes in and clearly discloses the support he receives from the Mfg of such products

  • you say “if you are eating a low carb diet”, what is your opinion of high carb diets then? ie: 80/10/10 or high carb raw vegan/high carb cooked vegan etc?

  • Hey Doc. If HGH levels are highest in the morning after a 16 hour fast isn’t it best to work out then to take advantage of the high HGH levels?

  • Wow! This is actually a helpful content! Since we are still under quarantine, I’ve been doing steps to improve my lifestyle such as working out. And as a beginner, this video answered the questions I have! Thank you and keep safe!

  • I TAKE RESENTMENT ON THIS VIDEO: how can exercise early in the morning be bad? when u r FRESH AWAKE and have slept for an good 8 9 hours? drinking some water and 1hour after waking up training? I dont see whats wrong? u have the WHOLE DAY to recover? including the sleep at night? so sorry doc: only video where I DONT AGREE. same as Navy SEals as well as Shaolin monks as well as pro-fighters BOxing or UFC are ALL training in the morning. a good morning session is very very important!

  • Thanks ur reply mam nashta walk se phly krna chay aur walk ke kitny ghanty bad hum so sakty ha aur jo log rat ko so nhi paty wo subha ki walk ke bad so sakty ha?

  • I understand everybody are different.I agree workout on an empty stomach. I always do hiit cardio first thing in the morning on an empty stomach when ever I want to get leaner.
    Thanks Doc!

  • *The don’t lift weights fasted part got me triggered *, it depends on how you feel basically, Try both and see whats best for your body

  • For various health and age-related reasons I have been paying close attention to the variety of suggestions available on YouTube and elsewhere related to diet, the sum total of which seems to be contradictory in many ways. You approach is consistent, sensible, and seems to fit what I believe I need to maintain and improve my health. I appreciate your efforts.

  • I play vball until 930pm because when my body is tired, I sleep better. But this video tells me I shouldn’t exercise before going to bed. I’m now conflicted.

  • I can’t tell whether I have DOMs anymore as I have been working out at least an hour for months and I have at least one rest day (every Sunday) I don’t know if I’m overexerting myself anymore I want to slim down my lower body man..

  • dr. I have a VERY IMPORTANT question..
I’m very skinny and I started hitting weights curls in particular with a very heavy 20 lbs to exact as well with other exercises I do very heavy as a noob..
many said my muscles wouldn’t get any bigger NO MATTER WHAT i do because of that..

i don’t know what is the term of that in English.. but some kind of PLATEAU
but plateau can be fix..mine couldn’t.
I’ve heard from any expert..it seems true because my arms didn’t grow over 10 years of lifting..
    please help

  • Hello. Newbie here. I watched all your videos especially about the intermittent fasting and they are very helpful. I am just starting to change my lifestyle and your videos are extremely helpful. Thank you!

  • I’ve been burning 400+ calories on the treadmill plus a 5 minute extra workout almost for the past month. Should I do this everyday or what? Pls reply

  • I’m a morning person! I wake up at 7:00 am every morning.. I get my workout clothes on and eat my healthy breakfast then I do your workouts! I’m so inspired by you Cassey! You remind me of a good friend, And it makes it more motivational to workout watching you!:) Thanks CASSEY!!!:):P:)

  • For me I think differently….specially when we are making IF with 2 meals lunch at 01:00 PM and Dinner at 07:00 PM, so workout at 11 morning is the best when all the sources of carbs and glycogen been depleted and our keton level are the highest, so the best chance to loose body fat….

I’m a nurse graduate and enjoy working out… if you would like to know more about gaining muscle while fasting and what I do follow me on IG @a1.fitness92 and message me on YouTube and I’ll start posting vids.. I just finished my chest and back workout after a 16h fast and am planning to fast for 30 plus hours and train my arms then I’ll have my first meal after 35 hours…

  • Hey Dr Sam Robbins stop BS the people about the workouts on an empty stomach PLEASE! IT IS NOT TRUE AT ALL! I have been working out fasted for the past probably 5 months and I have been feeling the best I have ever had! I am feeling way better fasted than fed and I feel like I can sustain a much longer cardio with higher intensity or that I can lift much heavier some times. I have even gained 4 kilograms through those 5 months fasting 28 days of a month(18-6 with 2 meals or OMAD) and the results are visible! I have almost not gained any fat in the process witch is amazing.

  • Can I do an intense workout 5 days a week and then do short low impact workouts on my days off? Like is a 7 minute workout that isn’t too hard ok? Also I would go on a walk to get my steps in on these days as well

  • I only have time to workout in the morning should I eat something keto friendly  before working out early in the morning or just empty stomach???
