What I also believe needs to be limited, or minimised, is consumption of processed high GI carbs, like white bread, rice, pasta. If you reduce intake of fats, you still need calories to keep you going, and if they are coming from processed carbs, your triglycerides (TGs) will spike, turning LDL into a really bad LDL, which is the worst case scenario. Based on my extensive research and experimenting with my own diet and exercise, I think it is almost impossible for some people to reduce LDL below the official limit, but it is not necessary either. It is better to focus on controlling LDL by ensuring TGs are low and HDL is high enough. TC/HDL ratio is important. This is all much easier for overweight people, because they can reduce LDL and weight at the same time. But for underweight people like myself, it is challenging because we need more calories to maintain weight.
