“If you take my yoga class, you don’t need additional cardio, because your heart rate will reach a healthy range within the first 30 minutes of the 90-minute class,” says Lisa Black, the owner of Shakti Vinyasa Yoga studios in Seattle, Bellevue, and Redmond, Washington. As you can see, a dynamic yoga practice like Vinyasa Yoga can both build strength, and be considered a cardio workout. If you thought that yoga was simply sitting and meditating, you may be surprised to know that a yoga practice can be considered both cardio and strength training. Despite much research and debate, whether the effects of yoga provide a cardiovascular benefit continues to be conflicted.

It could boil down to which style of yoga you practice. Many studies have shown hatha yoga classes don’t offer much cardiovascular benefit. Your heart rate isn’t generally high enough for long enough during a yoga class for it to count as a cardio workout.

The classic stretching, strengthening and meditation aspects of yoga do provide great heart health benefits, just not in the form of cardio. Don’t Give Up on Yoga Just Yet. This is all great news for yoga lovers, but many of you probably wonder: Is it enough to do just yoga, or do you need to supplement your practice with other cardio exercise to really raise your.

  • I usually love what you guys do and what you guys stand for, but I can’t get behind this video because the title is so so so not aligned with the message, and it just isn’t mindful. It’s so so toxic. I thought we were supposed to love our bodies. Now we want them to cry? Mindfully building muscle is much healthier, especially for your mind, and it’s much more rewarding in all aspects. As someone who has suffered from anorexia for many years along with body dysmorphia, I’ve found yoga to be a way that I can connect with my body while also working it out, a nice balance that allows me to be soft and care for my body after so much abuse.   • I have created a 30-day YouTube workout video challenge for myself where I do a different workout video every day for 30.
    I organised them in 5-day rotations
    1. HIIT video
    2. Pilates/Toning
    3. Focused Workout (like on arms, abs, glutes)
    4. Restorative Yoga or Yoga for stretching for rest days
    5. Dance or PiYo workout

    My hope is to find workouts that I actually like and to develop an at home routine in addition to classes I may take.

    This was the fifth HIIT routine and I really liked it. I love yoga, I have discovered when working out at home I do like shorter routines.. just about anything under 30 minutes so this was definitely perfect time wise.

  • The yoga cardio has a nice flow. I have only a slight remark. Just wear a color that contrasts with the wall so that you stand out and asanas are more visible (white-white is not good). Otherwise, you look great on camera.:-)

  • I’ve got myself a little confused in what poses do sometimes, but did all the practice and felt so strong and energized. It elevates the heart rate, but I think that the practices in wich we hold the stronger poses longer also do the same. Actually, I think those are more challenging… I loved the cardio yoga class, I’m going to repeat it more, now that I already know what to do, I think I’m not going to be so confused next time. =)

  • This is awesome! Thanks for uploading. The only issue I have is that I’m not at a level where I can move through the poses with that much speed and grace. I’m still working on making sure I’m hitting the breathing right and I’m still in a thinking spot walking myself through it.   • I believe “yes” but it depends on the practice. I think Yoga can be everything (strength, cardio, flexibility, relaxation, etc…), but it depends on the type practice. Sorry I wasn’t around for the live broadcast! Been out of the loop.:( I personality do a little of everyhting. I have rto have some walking or bouncy style cardio atleast a little daily because of leg pain that is overwhelming if I don’t. I do yoga daily, but the type variesand the length varies. I add in strength everywhere i can, whether its a stronger practice or weighted glovesin cardio

  • too fast. love the movement set but the pace is too fast i can adjust my body to assure the pose is correct. would like it better if you can slow down the pace a bit.

  • This was great. Michelle’s style is perfect for me. Direct, to the point! Has she done many other videos? I don’t see more than a couple with her teaching.

  • I have been practicing different style of yoga over 10 years now but on and off. Your video helped me practicing every 6/7 days over the last 6 months. This one is one of my favorite, together with the 40 min intermediate class power vinyasa with crow pose. I have 30 mins in the morning and would love to be able to combine 20 mins hiit with 10 min of difficult pose like crow pose. I haven’t found that amongst your videos. If you can make one like that, it would brighten my mornings. Great great thanks for what you do!

  • This is my go-to morning work out. Mornings can be tough with little kids running around and this is great to compress a high intensity workout in just 12 minutes!

    Я сделала этот комплекс утром (не завтракала), и перед сном я пищу употребляла за часа 4.И того я не ела 13часов. Так почему же я чувствую боль почти сразу как выполняю упражнения лёжа на животе (особенно лук или лодочка). Я бы не сказала что она острая, но осадок до ужаса неприятный и эта боль не похожа на нормальное состояние при растяжки мышц.
    Эта боль переодична и я не могу понять причины её появления, так как я стандартно не ем часов 13-14 и она то есть, то нет

  • I usually do a similar flow in class but it takes 60 min. Having a 20 minute option on those days where you don’t want to go to class is great. Very well done!

  • Hello Lesley �� I try to inculcate a shoulder stand and plough pose in each yoga session during the cooling phase. I wanted to know if there’s any particular time I should be doing it. Like, before or after the bridge pose.? Or seated forward folds and seated twists.? Just wanna make sure I’m not doing anything to harm my back.
