How to Get Back Into Shape After No Exercise for a Long Time: Full Fitness Training

Eating well to get into shape; tricks and tips to drop pounds faster When it comes to getting fit, eating healthily is just as important as working out. Cut out refined foods and fast foods Aside from the fact that most refined foods are horrid for your health, they aren’t going to do you any favors when it comes to getting back into shape, either. Switch to a higher-protein diet.

1 of 11. If your plate is usually piled with the brown-and-gray family of foods—think breads, hash browns and chips—you might want to rethink your fuel source. After all, nutrition is roughly 80 percent of the fitness equation, and you can’t out-train a poor diet.

The best lower body exercises to include to get in shape fast are compound exercises because they work multiple muscle groups all at once. Include some of the following exercises to help build strength in your lower body quickly: Squats; Lunges; Deadlifts; Leg press; Hamstring curl; Calf raises. Maintain a vertical torso.

Keep your weight evenly distributed between your front and back foot. Jump to switch your foot positioning — front foot goes back, back foot goes front. Coordinate arm. Press your lower back into the floor while you roll your upper body slightly up until your shoulder blades clear the floor. 2. Concentrate on your obliques (the muscles on the side of your waist.

Being skinny is not what you should be aiming for if you are overweight, but you most certainly should be aiming at staying healthy and keeping your body in reasonable shape. Basically, if you look after your body, it will look after you well into your 50s, 60s, 70s and beyond. By following a few simple rules, you will be in the best shape for you!Whether you want to lose weight, stay in shape, or bulk up, you should be eating plenty of complex carbs (about 50-60% of your diet.) The best sources of complex carbs are: Fruits (which are especially good for busy, on-the-go teens, because fruits like.

The method is up to you you can run, cycle, jump rope, use an elliptical you name it. After spending five to 10 minutes warming up, go as fast. The best way to get in shape fast is actually quite simple– eat healthy and exercise often.

Consistent effort, day after day, will lead to noticeable results in just a couple of weeks. My first piece of advice to you is don’t over complicate it. You don’t have to count calories or spend hours at the gym.

Stand with your feet shoulder width apart and hold a dumbbell or kettlebell in one hand with your palm facing away from you. The weight should be between your legs. Bend your knees and waist as if you are performing a kettlebell swing.

The weight should swing back and between your legs.

  • Thank you, I need to lose these quarantine pounds, but I have a small place with a concrete floor and lots of antique furniture, I didn’t think I could exercise, but I’m going to try now. I would love to see a video called “exercises you can do in 2 square meters of concrete”.

  • eHowFitness, I think you guys made a really good video on how start out the training. But I wonder what your views are on how important the mindset is and how to prepare or build a somewhat good enough mindset to atleast start executing the first steps after a long brake?

I’ve been on and off the gym and I can see a pattern of high levels of stress that is connected to whatever that is going on in my life that kind of criples the mindset needed for my training somehow. I am very curious if you (Martin) have any tips and tricks for keeping the mindset to always keep training regardless of what your situation is?

Once again thanks for the great video!

  • Hello…roberta.I ve been doing the 300 calorie workout…I have a broad shoulder already..Does knee pushups increase my shoulder size??if so please suggest me some alternative exercise to reduce my shoulder size…Thank you

  • me: ok no more soda ever, and i’m not eating any junk food like chips
4th of july tomorrow: i’m about to ruin this whole dude’s career

  • Thank you for making this, I kept just eating and eating as I am having a lot of problems and stress, so the biggest problem will be the stress, but other than that hopefully it works, I will come back and comment in a couple mouths time and tell you if it works or not,

  • I got diagnosed with cancer 1.5 years ago, lost all of my muscle mass and also put on some added lbs due to the treatment drugs. Its really hard mentally to stick with a workout plan, but Im gonna try

  • I know its just an excuse and I should be more motivated, but I always feel like I’m too out of shape to start trying. You said push ups are great to start off with but I have never been able to do even one.

  • My hardest struggle is realizing where I am at right now! Years ago I was able to do a lot more. I felt a lot better and was in good shape. I also think about it a lot and wonder what the hell happened. Or the other thing I do is keep thinking about were I want to be and how I want to look and feel. More important is how I want to feel. By doing this I am not in the present moment. I have just started some isometric exercises and also bought a set of resistance bands. I would like to do more like running in place, jumping Jack’s, burpees, all the thort of things but I am working out in a small bedroom my fiance says when I make the slightest movement it sounds like I am going to fall through the floor. Maybe I will do more yoga. It is a rough journey but there are people who have had a lot tougher journeys than this. I can do this! Just focus on the present! Ugh!!!

  • As an exercise novice I really like your speaking style. I can’t do a push-up on the floor yet; how could I build up to doing push-ups? It would be great if you uploaded a beginner workout showing how to the exercises you discus here. Thanks for the motivational videos you have put up.

  • Hi, am u r new subscribe, I want to reduce my belly fat n weight loss. I have done c section operation just 2month before. so plz tell me which is the best exercise for me. How many months I need to do. Any diet is there. Plz reply I am waiting for u r reply…….

  • Can’t get hurt? I disagree. I turn fifty this year and I am very out of shape. If I did a set of squats right now, my blood pressure would be through the roof and I am not 100% that my heart could take it if I try to go from zero to hero.

  • Thank you for the video. My problem is procrastination. I’m on permanent disability, so I have the time. I basically live in a gym. That’s pathetic, I know.

  • i used to play football ( soccer ) almost daily i was sooo in shape then i broke my knee since then i have not run or did any kind of exercise its been 4 or 5 years:( i decided that i should comeback so i hope this video will be helpful to me.. i cant even do 1 push up now lmaoooo it hurts

  • I have a back injury permanent and been ill for 28 months. Just had an op to resolve that issues that caused illness. So need dire help but cant afford a gym

  • I was just about to stop bulking and start cutting. Is that a good idea right now or will it make me lose all my muscle because I can’t go to the gym now?

  • Important topic, so thanks for that, but some of this advice is dangerously irresponsible for those whose joints & out-of-practice bodies are not in the same shape as yours are. Older folks, arthritic folks, those of any age who haven’t kept their supportive muscles stretched for some time could be injured by trying to do, e.g., a number of squats so quickly & right off the bat. That’s where you lost me. Not everyone on YouTube is a lithe & limber millennial. If you’re a pro you should know better. Hope you revise this because it could be a great help to many.

  • I used to actually really enjoy the gym a while back, but then took a short break for exams which then got extended by about 6 months due to a bad injury. Now, I’m struggling to start again after living an incredibly sedentary lifestyle for the past 7-8 months…

  • No1 here’s commenting on how they’ve managed to start off with their routine again and feel good about it. See you guys again! Getting that shape today!

  • dont think what to do.. think what your doing it for.. everyone always says “just start now” and yes it is true but sometimes u dont feel like it and those are the days you have to say screw it im doing it anyway.. step by step and u will get there dont overdo it.. if u did 8 reps instead of 15… good u atleast did 8 and not 0.. for anyone that reads this i know its hard.. especially when u are on your own but you came to my comment for a reason and you deserve better start today because before you know it its tomorrow and then the promises you made yourself yesterday will go to waste.. let it stop here lets grow togheter

  • Whitney! You inspired me to create a youtube channel. Would love it if you checked out my first video I just uploaded about my fitness transformation:) <3

  • 1lTrack progress( body composition, weight, height, photo-1x monthly.)
    2l set a goal
    3l planning ahead
    4l prep meal.
    5l make workout plan

  • So like I’m 15 and i want to lose weight I’m doin all the exercises and everything but no results it’s been 1 month without results I’ve been watching my diet and everything if you can help pls comment

  • I just got over a illness…..used to bang press ups out in 50s couldn’t push 5 broke my heart that’s when I realised I got a long road ahead but if i don’t I’ll waste away…..

  • Track progress: Weight, body fat, pictures front, back and side. Take new pics every 4 weeks.

Set goals: E.g) Cut out cold drink.

Plan ahead: Meal prep, my fitness pal

    Create workout plan

  • Are used to eat like all the time and now I am pretty much constantly full can someone tell me why? I’m 13 around 110 pounds and I’m 5‘3“

  • Fuel… and so is stored fat. You’re eating too frequently, your insulin doesnt have a chance to stabilize. Please dont post about nutrition when you have no clue. Look up Dr Jason Fung on YouTube

  • Getting fit requires six things
    -Will power
    -More Pain
That’s it. That’s the reality. And if u don’t like it, then eat a doughnut and watch a movie marathon. I’ll take my leave now.

  • Almost all tips for weight loss instructions, Egg is everywhere but I realized even boiled eggs add your weight. how this cheating is accepted and practiced by many without consideration. although my weight is quite normal, I need to maintain it to avoid further weight gaining but all suggestions went wrong direction.

  • Oh! Thank you, gentlemen!! I have horrible arthritis in almost every joint. I’ve had knee surgery, ankle surgery, and I have terrible balance. Add to that a chair bound job. I’ve tried so many “beginner” programs and they all contain elements I cannot do! Like running in place, squats, and sit ups. I can do everything in this video. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

  • I weigh 145 pounds, sounds okay right? Well I’m 14. For every like, I will do what they asked me to do in this vid for an extra day

  • Whitney….I started going to the gym on 9-22-19 (its been a week) Im so in LOVE and addicted! But im lost too….I feel like Im all over the place and don’t know what machines to do and on what days… motivation and energy is there but there is no routine at all!

  • How does a scale determine the difference between body fat and water weight just by standing on it? To me that sounds like a scam, did you test it at all seeing as you’ve got an investment in them to sell?

  • i don‘t think you should track your macros because you‘re obly going to obsess over it! Just eat healthy and organic foods and have some carbs, fats and protein in every meal you eat

  • While watching the video I go through and like all the comments that have an odd amount of likes to make it even bc I have OCD like that

  • I love your channel so much. I’ve seen and been through lots of fitness gurus and I just haven’t seen any as genuine and pure as you are! You’re so quirky and relatable I love it! Keep it up, you’re inspiring me to get better everyday <3

  • About two years ago I was living in California. I was working at a candy store in a mall and was eating Jack in a Box and pizza almost everyday. I then moved to Texas to be with my family again. I’m walking a lot more and for longer distances, and I’m no longer eating fast food every other day. I didn’t realize how the smaller lifestyle changes I had made really made a difference in my health. In less than 2 years I had lost about 30 pounds. In the past year I’ve made more of an effort to incorporate more physical activity into my schedule and I’m so happy that I have.

  • 0:26 Step 1: Tracking Your Progress. Weigh yourself. Take before and after photos. Front, back, side. Once a month.
2:08 Step 2: Set a goal. Write it down. Save it as a screen saver.
2:44 Step 3: Plan Ahead. Meal prepping one night a week. Eat 4-6 small to medium meals (if 4 then pair with snacks).
80% of what you do is in the kitchen. 20% is in the gym.
4:32 Step 4: Counting Macros: Carbs, Protein, Fat. Fitness app: My Fitness Pal can help keep track.
4:55 Step 5: Create a workout plan. Many resources to get free workouts. Including this channel. Work out all muscle groups. When you have a plan then schedule in those workouts.

  • Its a myth that muscle weighs more than fat. A pound of fat and a pound of muscle still equal a pound. Muscle takes up less space than fat making you look slimmer.

  • Imagine having everything you need for successfull body transformation in one place?! Yeah, it’s possible, the website called NextLevelDiet leaves you full-packed and ready for melting off those extra pounds.

  • Clean eating!!! Nothing apart from the broccoli and water was clean. Everything was processed and out of a packet and looked inedible!!! I wouldn’t go near any of it!!!!

  • I have been watching your channel for awhile and you have helped me sooo much. I have lost 70lbs and started the gym. I was intimidated and quit going and now I have went back to eating unhealthy. I feel in a rut and need a kick in the butt. Any tips?

  • Hey there. I really love your figure and it suits you so well. But I personally don’t want my shoulders to grow as I already have a wide back and broad shoulders.
Then again I don’t want to skip a muscle group either.
Is there anyway I can work shoulders without growing them?

  • I eat like a cow and i really dont want to loss weight i just want to tone my body.. i can loose waight real easy but i dont like how i look skinny..

  • Hello! I’m so happy I started following you! I want to lose the last two kgs and build muscle, but as someone who’s always had an unhealthy relationship with food, I’m scared of increasing my calories. Also I have no idea how many calories I should really be taking in because my workouts are really all over the place. I want to start consistently working out at least five days a week.

  • I started going to the gym consitently, eating lots of vegetables every meal, drinking more water and getting more sleep.
I never drank much alcohol or ate many processed foods. But i also cut on those. They don’t enter my home but I’ll still have them sometimes when I eat out or something like that.
I also only have 1 meal a day but I think that doesn’t apply to everyone.

  • I will try but what time is best for exercise… 9 AM is good or not plz reply bcoz I am a slim Nd I want my body in shape Nd sorry my English is not good

  • 7:20 is it still ok to do so many reps for someone who wants to gain muscles or is this all really ONLY to maintain your musclemass?

  • This app is so cool I think I did this workout 4-5 days now and I do it twice a day in the morning and night so I can always be in shape

  • Thank you I’m following you start kahapon n every i work out sa vedio nio gamit. Salamat at pinagpawisan na ako ngayon 2nday plang. GOD BLESS

  • Hi Roberta.. thanks for the video..will the above workout help in reducing love handles…pls do reply…btw loved ur workout video

  • I need help because my eating habits are extremely messed up and I’m so weak and I’m scared my body is giving up I can bearly do squats and I’m just trying to help myself

  • I have never exercised since age 14, I’m 39 and 3 kids later now. I’m in my third week of walking. I do [email protected] in 40minutes. I try eat cleaner, I feel better, and I can’t believe I never did this earlier

  • Hii Roberta..
Am ur new subscriber…Am too much weight gain after my c section delivery..Now I want to start weight loss sooo plzzzzz help me from starting stage….

  • Well bois day 1 200 Pounds: 13 Ran 2.5 miles never felt so tired. Day 2 ran 1 mile ate a omelet and has a saled

  • you give any solutions to increasing metabolism over 50. I have noticed this in several of your videos…I get to the end, but there’s not really a solution.

  • Give me the peer reviewed studies that prove that GMOs slow down metabolism… I’d wait but I’m pretty sure there arent any, I’ve checked.

  • Thank you so much. Ouse to work out everyday, things happen, it’s been years now w/o doing anything. I’m motivated & going to get going.

  • Anyone else here during quarantine and your sports are allowed to go back on but you haven’t been exercising since march. because same.

  • Do you have any citations for scientific studies in support of your second claim that non-organic foods reduce metabolism rate? I would be interested to see those.

  • I always find it funny when videos or workout programs say “easy way to get in shape,” like its that simple. The steps themselves seem pretty simple, but maintaining the motivation and commitment to pursuing fitness is no easy task. It takes months of hard training to become ‘fit,’ while it is very easy to slip up.

  • I can NEVER sleep early. Although I am a heavy sleeper, I can NEVER sleep at 8:00 pm US hours. I always end up sleeping at 1 to 3 am in the morning. Sometime I sleep early but I wake up in the middle of the night for no reason. Is this normal? And I’m not a adult I’m a teenager.

  • You are the best channel I have found. You give the most information. Most people ask you to buy a bunch of stuff or just repeat the same information. Thank you for sharing ❤️

  • This exercise is really work for me… OMG… I got shape in my body.. though it was very tough for me but I do it 30 days.. thanks Roberta’s gym

  • Think you got it backwards. You said your body often mistakes hunger for thirst. Should be “Your body often mistakes thirst for hunger.”

  • If your metabolism is slow no diet will give you the desired results, how do you fix your metabolism you ask? thats easy! fix your diet:) oh….

  • Why this don’t skip a meal rule? Fasting has a lot of benefits, especially weight loss. I’m talking out of experience. This don’t skip a meal thing is so misleading. It’s not a taboo to do.

  • There isn’t any fat loss tea or a magic pill. There are only smart dieting and training. NextLevelDiet is a great tool to start with because it gives you everything you need to reach your fitness goals.

  • I got fit in about 1 week doing these workouts. Something that I think helped me was this drink called Organifi. You can buy it here

  • I’m 12 years old, 5’2, tryna get abs for summer and tryna get to at least 5’5 before I go back I go back to school in September. I know that is probably a very high aim, but any advice would help

  • I have the same scale but for some reason the body fat percentage is very off, has this happened to you? I don’t really know how to fix it either ):

  • Ok so I’m in my mid 30s and just found your channel. You both are SO CUTE ❤❤ I was a bit depressed and had no physical activity from 10 days. Began feeling low and right shoulder pain. It’s not from my neck but feels like a lack of movement or wrong posture. Thank you for your videos! I’ll be starting my workout and thank you for the inspiration! Xo

  • Thank you so much! I just said to myself the other day that I was going to look through your videos to find exercises I can do with my bad back and knees because my core is getting worse quickly. It’s like you were reading my mind! Namaste!

  • doing this one daily and the 30 day challenge twice a day. I had a heart attack and heart failure need 2 surgeries in the future and this will help me get ready!

  • I have scoliosis and Spina bifida occulta and scoliosis and have had a rough year with a broken foot and sciatica that put me bed ridden and I am finally able to move, hopefully this will help with strengthening and flexibility of my back so I can start getting back into shape.

  • The last thing I want to do is working out. You guys are stil not realising what we are all going through. I don’t give a damn if I lose my muscle gains despite being an athlete. Give yourself priorities. Gym isn’t a priority at the moment. When there will be food shortage what are you guys going to do? Still eating 5-6 meals per day? Ffs. Greetings from Milan

  • Iv just got into fitness and found this link which has helped me.

Costs very little for massive benefits trust me it works

  • you missed alternating calf/tibialis
    ankle flex/extensions great for
    avoiding ankle/foot/etc trouble
    in the passenger flight seats
… putting em in later seemed
less orderly also you can make
    the squat-ups easier by unloading
to hip-only so you get full ROM
w/o doing the full weight at once

  • Thank you!
This is truly for those of us who have been couch potatoes. I needed this…. I’ve put on weight while working from home.

  • Bruh I see all these ripped dudes all day. I don’t drink Soda, I eat vegetables and fruits. I worked out everyday for a 8-10weeks and weight still stayed the same.

  • Diet is they key. I lost 20kg and did not do any training whatsoever, i was working 12-14hr days and i just dieted. No carbs after 9am that was they key. No bread just rice.

  • I have lost 10lbs in just one month by following diet plan from *Next Level Diet*. It’s really a great tool. I recommended it to my family members and we all started to eat and live healthier. Long live #*Next Level Diet*.

  • Before this corona I had to wake up at 5 and go to track and once I’m done with that I have to run to the gym for 2 hours the go to school so this is a pretty good break

  • Cutting good carbs veggies has now been proven not to work. The insulin spike from a slice of bread is far greater then most veggies. Almost veggies can be grouped into 5/10 or 20% carbs.

  • I work at home anyways hahah. Staying lean and ripped as f*ck all year no membership no fancy machines just me, my dumbbells and my mat.

  • Hood guess this crown color!! The stock markets would go up a long time! Now all down!! Then again up!! top 1-% lower game..

Day 1; found this workout at night very good No jokes can already see the difference tysm first this

  • Never been to a gym in 14 years just been training in the garage a few times a week with minimum equipment and maximum WILLPOWER!!!

  • What about chest seated press and benchpress? Flyes? How to do that lol? Ik heb dumbells daar kan ik zo goed als alles mee doen maar ik weet echt ni hoe ik seated chest press kan simuleren lol. Bechpress gaat half op bed liggen aan uiteinde maar is ni hetzelfde zoals op een bench liggen.

  • Supernice video! Fellow Dutchie here, not wanting to lose what I worked hard for the past months, this workout looks awesome and challenging (for myself balance wise at least), will make sure to note it down and try it out! Gonna safe that rest week for later haha. I actually just invested in some power resistance bands (booty + full body bands) so I would love to see also a banded workout just to keep my workouts interesting and give variety as it does get dull at home:(

  • Website called NextLevelDiet is the best for your body transformation. I lost 20kg by following their diet plan (I also had cheat meals) and training plan.

  • Whenever i try to exercise i think that im doing it wrong and that theres no point i used to play kickboxing it was the only time i started to exercise in the gym and now theres quarantine so i cant exercise
