Does Protein Powder Work? (Spoiler: YES, but there’s a catch)

Video taken from the channel: DocUnlock

Since most protein powders have at least 20 grams of protein per scoop, you’d need about 80 grams of carbs to go with that scoop to get the proper proportion of nutrients!Do I actually need the extra protein? You are likely already getting enough protein from your regular diet. The truth is that the majority of Americans actually take in too much protein.

Depending on what your diet is, you may already get enough or even excess amounts of this macronutrient from your regular meals and snacks throughout the day. Unless you’re an extreme athlete, recovering from an injury, or over 60, you probably need only 50 to 60 grams of protein a day. And you probably already. For example, if you’re an active 30-year-old woman who is 140 pounds and five-foot-six, you’ll need about 51 grams of protein a day, according to. Are you worried you’re not getting enough protein in your diet?

Here’s exactly how much protein YOU need to meet your daily requirements. So how much protein do you need? The answer depends on whom you ask. The current recommended daily allowance (RDA) is 0.8g of protein per kilogram of body weight. But many physicians and nutritionists now think that this number may be too low for older adults.

So how much protein do you really need? Protein basics. Protein is a large molecule that plays critical roles virtually everywhere in your body, including the muscles, bones, skin, hair, organs, and body tissues.

It’s perhaps best known for helping repair cells and body tissue, but it also plays a vital role in many important bodily processes. How Much Protein Do You Need? Protein is the building block for most of our cells; dietary protein helps us build muscle and maintain healthy bones.

It. Whether or not you need protein powder “really depends on what your diet consists of already,” Gonzalez says. Most people can indeed get enough protein, powder-free. But how much protein is enough versus too much?

The current recommended daily allowance for adults is 0.8 grams per kilogram of an individual’s body mass (or 0.36 grams per pound of body weight).

List of related literature:

For example, if you are a fitness enthusiast or a recreationally active athlete who exercises or plays sports several times a week, your needs are likely met by the recommended dietary allowance (RDA) of 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram of body mass per day.

Recent research on protein intake has shown that athletes require two times or more of the reference daily intake.7,15-20 It is now recommended that athletes involved in very high volume training consume between 0.7 and 0.9 g of protein per pound of body weight per day.

During the last decade, the notion that both strength/power and endurance athletes, as well the general active population (including men and women), require greater protein consumption than the current RDA recommendation of 0.8 g/kg of body weight per day in healthy adults is becoming generally accepted [12, 13].

Protein Supplements Training for muscle mass requires more than just hard work, it requires protein, as much as 1 gram per pound body weight per day for some individuals, but as you may discover, obtaining enough protein without consuming too much fat is often a problem.

  • A lot of people are confusing what he is saying as INCREASING your 1 REP MAX by 9% if you take protein, but that is NOT WHAT IS BEING SAID. The study is showing an additional 9% IMPROVEMENT ON GAINS.

    Some math:
    1 Rep Max 100kg

Gain 1 Rep Max without protein supplementation10kg
Gain 1 Rep Max without protein supplementation (Percent) -10%
New 1 Rep Max without protein supplementation 110kg

The additional 9% is ON THE GAIN:

    Theoretical Gain with protein supplementation (9% of 10kg + 10kg) = 10.9kg
Theoretical Gain 1 Rep Max with protein supplementation (Percent) 10.9%
Theoretical New 1 Rep Max with protein supplementation 110.9kg

In this case, protein supplementation would be expected to cause ONLY a 0.9% INCREASE IN 1 REP MAX.

  • I get acne if I take whey protein. So I switched to plant based protein, but still I get acne. If I stop proteins, there is no sign of acne. Even if I eat eggs, I get acne, but not chicken.

  • Why is it always either fat or skinny guys talking about health and building muscles? I listen to professionals like coach Greg a world class trainer and body builder.

  • I got acne from using protein powder, im in my 30s & never had skin problems and i got acne 3 months into using whey protiene, im sure its the whey, i not taken it 4 days i hope my skin recovers, what are your thoughts on it?

  • Whenever I do my cardio I don’t feel good for next 40 min even if I something like Apple or Banana is it good to have protein shake after cardio for post workout recovery?

  • I use protein shakes, because I just cannot eat that much normal stuff with protein, because I just don’t like it. I already struggle with food, because my body simply doesn’t save that much energy/gain that much energy from food (I have a typical ectomorph body), eating is usually just work for me, its usually not about the taste but about stuffing food into me to hold my weight. But when I do eat, I just prefer food that usually has carbs and a little fat.
I do gain weight when I stuff food into me on most days, about 1 kilo per month, but I loose that kilo in one day if I don’t eat enough.

So is it OK to consume about 80 grams of protein per day through protein shakes and the rest through food like oateal, hemp seeds, nuts, etc. to built up some muscles? (I finally weight 70kg and would like to get to 80, I’m 190cm tall)

    Have a nice day:)

  • I just got back to buying whey protein.
    I’m 5’8″
    Weighing 125.
    Trying to gain weight/muscle.
    How many scoops per day?
Amd is pasta a good providence to help me?

  • Appreciate video content! Forgive me for the intrusion, I would love your thoughts. Have you ever tried Ponnordaz Impressive Remedy (Sure I saw it on Google)? It is an awesome one of a kind product for discovering how to pack on solid muscle mass minus the hard work. Ive heard some great things about it and my close friend Aubrey got cool success with it.

  • So let me get this straight, the best doctors and medical in researchers in the world took 13 weeks to come to the conclusion that you need to exercise to improve your fitness? Was there a gas leak in the office?

  • I’m 13 going 14 and I’m was planning on taking whey isolate and I’m pretty shredded my abs are visible with or without lighting good definition I’ve been in a calorie deficit over quarantine but before quarantine I done boxing so I had a lot of muscle memory so I think I’ve genetically reached my best for my age and wondering if I should take whey isolate to help me and I’m just worried if it will slow my mentaolism down and slow myself down playing gailec football and soccer

  • Does Custokebon Secrets really work? I see lots of people keep on talking about Custokebon Secrets. But I’m not sure if it’s good enough to lost lots of fat.

  • Protein powers work when you take it in proportion to your body weight. Good quality with 3 meals throughout the day rather than just after the workout.
Too much protein is also bad, do research.

  • Appreciate video content! Excuse me for the intrusion, I would love your initial thoughts. Have you ever tried Qiyictoria Teyrooklyn Eradicator (just google it)? It is a smashing one of a kind product for kissing goodbye to your smoking habit minus the headache. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my good mate called Gray at very last got astronomical success with it.

  • guys i weight 70 kg and i’ve been lifting for a year and i don’t understand pounds i work with kg so how much protein i need according to doc i’ve been eating double my weight wich is 140 g is that correct??

  • They already received enough protein to build. The real question is can I eat 130g protein a day alone with diet, and here is where protein shakes help…thats all

  • Anyone tried the Custokebon Secrets? I have heard many awesome things about it and my cousin lost tons of weight with Custokebon Secrets (look on google search engine).

  • Sorry but this Video is shit, protein is protein, If it is from Chicken or whey. Also it doesnt increase your strength or muscel mass. You can eat all proteins you need with your nutrition!

  • i am having a hard time eating chicken breast because its so hard to chew and time consuming when im busy, so i change it to whey protein and man when its mixed with cold water, its so delicious and surprisingly making me feel full for up to 4 hours and dont want to eat but i still forced myself to eat vegetables like brocoli and spinach and fruits like banana, kiwi, watermelon and avocado. and drink water at least 1.5 liters a everyday. train homeworkouts 3 times a week and 4 days 5 minutes sprint each.

  • A lot of trainers are qualified to speak on diet, they do nutrition as part of their course. Dieticians here in UK are rubbish, food pyramid rubbish!

  • I take whey protein also for the physical and mental benefits that the Bcaa’s give to the body to function properly and maximize health and body functions.

  • Hey baby’s If you think fryed rice is good, you should try fryed rice pan cakes with a egg in it and a smear of tomato sauce and peanut butter, you could even use a little jam on that like a plum sauce roast dinner with juice and coffee

  • I’ve always honestly thought the 1-1.5g protein intake for muscle building was overrated, maybe even over-exaggerated a bit. Do you need protein intake? Of course, but a fixed number for every different body doesn’t present logic. To rest my case, look at prisoners incarcerated who don’t have access to protein powders, or loads of protein sources for that matter, look at how jacked they get just from consistent weight lifting or body weight training, and eating only the meals they are served in prison. You just need to commit to progressive overload, and the time it takes for the body to change, that’s it. Can throw all of the technical bs on this topic out the window

  • 0.8g per lb of Bodyweight!? Yeah maybe if u lay in bed all day and are completely sedentary, that’s 80g of protein for a 220 lb person

  • What about for a woman? If I eat protein only yoghurts like 17g of protein, do I still need to take supplements? I’m 22 btw. I have an autoimmune disease and feel weird after I drink a protein shake that’s why I don’t take them but feel my gains could be even greater if I did. The thing is I can’t sadly…

  • It’s funny how they are honest respect to personal trainers not being qualified to give advice on nutrition, cause it is “beyond their scope”, but they base the entire video on advice of that very same subject… Good advice though! (I mean it).

  • I think some proteins going into the body all at once is way too much. It causes the brain question what are you doing to the body? My uncle started taking protein he just has hair loss he is not fully bald just has a bald spot, he had good hair I’m gonna take protein for a year and STOP!

  • It can be good but make sure you only take a set amount and still drink a lot of water. I’ve gone into acute renal failure (very scary) because I was pounding 8 protein shakes a day. Hit me a little over a year later. I was very fortunate that I didn’t need to be on dialysis. But one of my kidneys only operates at half capacity from the doctor told me.

  • “The practice of resistance excercise training is a far more potent stimulus for increasing muscle strength than the addition of dietary protein supplementation.”

That must be one of the dumbest things I´ve ever seen coming from an actual doctor. It´s like saying:
“The practice of fueling up your car is a much more effective way of allowing your engine to run than making regular oil changes.”

  • Thanks pal. The 9% to me isn’t worth it. Heard it promotes hair loss too. I lift, box, work the legs out and run. Diet is most important it seems and UK and USA eat very well. Other is just accepting who you are and what you have to work with.

  • The question is what was the diet of the protein shake free controll group. I hardly think they eated carrots… You must drink these supplements, if you cannot cover your protein need with food. Not everyone can afford steaks every day..

  • Had HUGE issues with my muscles growing up as i had to do physical chores all the time. I would get cramps, random locks and worst of all, full blown muscle tears in my sleep or when i would wake up and lightly just stretch, despite eating a varied and fish & meat heavy diet while choosing peanuts as snacks. It got real bad twice. Once, my neck would completely lock itself looking to the left calling for a hospital visit. Second i had more recently with a huge tear in my right arm 8 months and still not fully recovered.
Started taking protein powder for 6 months and all my issues are completely gone. Worst i get nowadays are DOMS.

  • The biggest issue is not the Whey itself, but what comes with the powder (even the so called high quality or “natural” ones): Flavourings, Sweeteners and God knows what else is hidden there. Anything that goes through processing gets a share of greed from the brands so they will never tell you what else they put in those powders, problems may just happen in the long term so no one cares about it.

  • I struggle to eat enough food, since I just don’t usually eat very often. So getting calories more through carbs would seemingly be preferable for then me (to a decent extent).

  • Wow! I’m mind blown !
I was just at Target today looking at whey protein powders, and then I thought, “ wait, do I really need it? Or am I just buying it cuz I see everyone drinks it?” I’ve lost 17 lbs in 2 months by just eating healthier and being active ( doing FitnessBlender video workouts). So this video was very helpful and informative! Thanks guys ❤️

  • doesn’t a cup of broccoli have more protein in it than a pound of beef? I realllyyy think they should do more research on a vegan diet before they say that the only source of protein out there is meat….protein comes from plants…that’s where animals get it from…animals cannot just naturally create protein in their bodies, to supply us humans with it, why get second hand protein when you can go to the source…plants are the only living thing that can take nitrogen from the air and turn that into protein…if our bodies just naturally created protein on its own we’d be set. But we don’t. plants do though.

  • I notice lots of people keep on speaking about Custokebon Secrets (do a google search). But I’m uncertain if it’s good. Have you ever tried using this popular diet plan?

  • Okay basically I LOVE LOVE LOVE how genuine you guys are.
So sponsoring products, selling random stuff and quick hacks. This is what I really needed, some legitimate fitness education. You guys are amazing, keeping balling!:)

  • Logically speaking, acne might increase because whey protein are from milk and there are researches showing that milk will increase acne

  • I have been taking a protein supplement powder post-workout for quite a while after doing P90X for a little while. I didn’t buy their beachbody powder, but I suppose I got brainwashed into thinking that the supplement would be good post-workout. I somewhat like the taste of the protein supplement that I currently take, so I’m going to check what’s in it and if it’s still good no sweeteners I might significantly reduce the amount of protein that I’m taking and use it differently as a tasty reward. Thanks for sharing this information.

  • Anyone with an insight into health and healthy living and eating will see that you guys know your… stuff, great advice, you are definitely no fraud!

  • thank you so much for this, ever since i started working out more i’d been wondering if i should do protein shakes and all that stuff, what i did was, since i felt like my body WAS asking for more protein, i decided to quit being a vegetarian after 10 years, i’ve made a lot of changes and it hasn’t been easy, but it felt right to be eating actual food rather than just powder, like you guys said, watching this just confirmed that i made the right decision, thank you so much!!!

  • This video solidified my respect for you guys and I’m so happy I found your channel! I don’t like a lot of professional youtube channels that do workouts compared to just bloggers because I find the professionals often feel fake so I don’t get the same motivation I get from a blogger. But you guys are awesome and I’m pretty sure you’ll be my basis for workouts from now on!

  • Okay so I have a question. If I drink a protein shake after my strength training workouts how much protein do I need for the rest of the day? And does it make a big difference for fat loss if I take it with my breakfast instead of drinking it after a workout?

  • Waaaaaa! I hear this after I spent $70 on protein powder (high quality products)! LOL! I guess I’ll keep using this as breakfast but I should add super greens for more phyto-nutrients to get me through to lunch.

  • Ive read that protein can, and can’t be stored as fat by eating to much. What if you are still below your caloric intake but eat a lot of protein? Will it still be stored as fat?

  • Hair loss? YES. It helps indirectly. Due to protein intake you build muscle. When u build muscle and do strength training your test goes up. Also DHT.. But in fact it is not worthy having low test just to save your hair. Benefits of normal or higher test levels are soo much more..

  • Can person get muscular with only natural food? I life in small village so thing like suplement didnt available in my location, so i only rely on natural food like egg, chicken, bean, potato etc

  • Kudos for the Video! Forgive me for the intrusion, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you considered Chireetler Immediate Muscle Rule (do a search on google)? It is a good exclusive guide for learning some fast muscle building techniques minus the hard work. Ive heard some super things about it and my cooworker got great success with it.

  • I am vegan and i dont take any protein powder and i follow your hiit workouts and your upper and lower body workouts. I tend to get tired quickly after walking or when i hang out. I feel more tired than fit. I have no idea what to do, im trying coconut water after my work outs and it indeed makes me feel better, but you have any idea what i should do? Thank you.

  • I put 1 scoop of gold standard protein in a big shaker, then i drink half of it (pre) workout and the other half (post) workout is it right?

  • im 165cm 14 and 48kg how much do i need im on muscle diet working out eating good i always eat 2-3banana a day chocolate milk
    2-3 eggs and honey

    Thanks

  • I’m 17, I used to drink whey protein shakes once a day. I’ve always had some acne but it wasn’t too severe. After a month or so of drinking whey, my face broke out over and over again. I talked to my doctor about it and they said whey protein contains lots of soy which is an estrogen, the higher amounts of estrogen in my body was causing these breakouts. Everyone is different but this is just a heads up for young men like me who are thinking of trying whey.

  • I’m sorry if you already answered this question, but when talking about how much protein you need per day, Kelli says 0.5-1.5 grams per pound, and Daniel talks in terms of kilograms. Can you clarify which is correct? Pounds/kilos

  • Google Wretch Weight Workings… It’s the best diet out there. Nice video but wait until you discover the diet you could learn when you buy Wretch Weight Workings… I shred 6 lbs in just one week.

  • I tried to make my own diet, but it didn’t work. I went to Next Level Diet and let them create diet plan for me. I am delighted with the result

  • Actually there is a certain allergen found in milk which is present in WPC and WPI which leads to hairfall in certain individuals but this allergen is missing in the whey protein hydroslates due to the high level of processing, making it completely safe to use.

  • Which of the studies suggests the strength benefits of consuming up to 3g/kg? I’ve checked all the links, perhaps I missed something.

  • i am a registered dietitian working in uk. i was a bit dubious at first at what advice you would be giving as i’ve heard so much rubbish on youtube but all the advice you are giving here is brilliant! not misleading and based on real evidence. it’s been really good to hear. all your other videos are brilliant as well, i have really enjoyed watching!

  • Read the descriptionMore details about our opinion. I’m not a native speaker as well. Sometimes it’s hard to understand so I just read the description. And I think they really can’t do subtitles in other languages. I mean who has the time to translate it?

  • I happen to have easy cheap access to egg whites. However, other than french toast I havent found a good way of cooking them without adding too many extra calories. Is it safe/efficient to drink them in a smoothie if they are pasteurized?

  • Hi. This was a good video:)
May i ask is it per pound or bodyweight or per kg of bodyweight that one should consume between 0.5-1.5g of protein?

  • I’m a professional athlete and I’ve never used protein powders or supplement. I think, they are all scams, and if you see me, you would be shocked to see how ripped I am.

  • Went vegan and DOMS was lessened, acne went away, running became easier and health immeasurably improved. Milk is poison. Never been fitter or healthier. Watch the Game Changers.

  • I can attest to the acne theory I can say most definitely we can get pimples from drinking protein shakes because I just recently started on a protein shake regimen and I never get pimples and now I have some there you have it

  • Question about the recommended protein intake:  I think Kelli said.5 to 1.5 g protein / lb body weight, but then later Dan said 2 g / kg bodyweight is way too high (he was using a per kg bodyweight measure). So is the recommended amount.5 to 1.5 g protein / kg body weight?  For me, 160 g protein (calculated from a per lb measure) seems way too much, but 73 g protein (calculated from a per kg measure) makes more sense.

  • Cheers for the video content! Sorry for the intrusion, I am interested in your opinion. Have you heard the talk about Yeyandon Hardgaining Transformer (Sure I saw it on Google)? It is a good one of a kind guide for learning how to go from skinny to packing on muscle without the normal expense. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my friend Sam at last got excellent success with it.

  • Excellent Video! Forgive me for butting in, I would love your opinion. Have you thought about Yeyandon Hardgaining Transformer (probably on Google)? It is an awesome exclusive product for learning how to go from skinny to packing on muscle without the headache. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my friend at last got excellent results with it.

  • What is the best product or brand to lost a lot of fat? I read lots of great reviews on the internet about how Custokebon Secrets can help you lost tons of weight. Has any one tried this popular weight loss diet plan?

  • i had someone in the gym tell me i should be at 400 grams of protein daily to gain… im 5’7” 195lbs 11%bmi… for shits and giggles i tried it… yea not happening… thank god for dr greg or id still be mind f*cked thinking im not getting enough protein lol

  • Plant protein does work for me. I have tried so many brands wheys even isolates have gotten some really big boils. Plant-based still gives me boils but it’s like 10% compared to whey.

  • i got clear skin. then after 1 week of taking protein shake i got 5 pimples in the same time so i stopped drinking process shake

  • I suffer from acne. It gets really bad when I intake whey protein, so I stopped using whey protein. I’m going to give soy protein a try and see if I get any reaction from it.

  • Excellent Video clip! Forgive me for the intrusion, I would appreciate your initial thoughts. Have you heard the talk about Yenabriel Deadlift Smasher (probably on Google)? It is a great one of a kind product for discovering a secret to skyrocketed your deadlift minus the headache. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my coo-worker at last got cool results with it.

I preffer eggs because of high protein but when i eat oats i dont get hungry until lunch easily. Just wanted to share

  • Kidney is the most important organs in our body, because it filters toxins from our blood. Proteins supplement are not scientifically [roven that it can damage kidney, why? Because some are made of Milk, Whey Protein and the rest are sugar, and flavors. I’ll choose 100% whey, NO BINDERS or any UNNATURAL INGREDIENTS.

  • high protein diet does not cause acne. however whey protein powder does because it is made of dairy and its added sugar content as well may contribute to breakouts. Better use plant based protein powders as this is much safer to your skin.

  • People who don’t support milk protein (I noticed acne when eating this king of protein) should consider eating vegan proteins, these are sooo good + you can find flavorless rice protein that doesn’t get boring with time as you can only see vanilla, chocolate, coffee, etc in milk protein

  • Guys. get rid of your acne problem doesn’t need to be hard (I used to feel it did). I will give you some tips right now. Get a popular natural acne treatment called Fopobiacne Secrets (google it). Thanks to it I have break free from acne. I should not even be talking about it cause I do not really want a lot of other guys out there running the same game but whatever. I’m just simply in a great mood today so I will share the wealth lol.

  • To guys. Think everyone has that kind money to spend.most of us like save and only use it 2 times or 1 times like 1 with breakfast. Other after workout. I only 20 to 25 gram. Unless I add milk or coffee. I only buy cassin when is on sale on clears. And whey on sale too clears. All deppence what brand is well. I try not get soy. But try planet if is Good only.or I get drinks is ready. If see it 99c store. I get few. Till I find 5lbs tub. Up front for $20 no tax. Or if see it gnc store $19 something. Pluse tax.. or less. That full..is waist of money if buy tub is half for price too high. That is ripped off.. I am u agree with me if a tub is not full to top.for price is not well. If don’t have kind money.would u buy.

  • if you wanna ideal body your wight must equals the number that ‘s after 100 cm it’s simply like this:
your height 180 cm=80 kg, 160=60, 170=70,175=75 and so on.

  • I started using vegan protein powders instead of whey and found that it helped with my skin issues. I still eat meat and eggs tho.

  • After all the other vids trying to find this answer, this is the most satisfying and direct answer I’ve watched in les than 2 mins.. Thank you Greg!

  • Fap or no fap,
Protein Powder (simple like ProtoeinX for my own analysis) or no protein powder, acne had no effects, neither positive nor negative. Skin care routine, genetics, hormone imbalances/ responses, etc cause acne. I’ve experienced this personally guys

  • I took Shakeology I personally think it’s over rated. Eat a good balanced diet. My CPT said it was rubbish as it only contains 16g of protein!

  • Firstly, your videos explain the most complicated things in the easiest ways. Could you please make a video on how to control hair loss basis the research.

  • I would like to see you cover “ people who think they are comedians” on You Tube.
Seriously, thanks for the info. I try to get enough good quality food protein, but that is not easy so I get about 50-60 grams a day in powders and bars.

  • Why would anyone not want to eat lots of powder?
Who cares if humans didn’t eat powder for the first million years.. we came to realize that natures biggest oversight was lots of powder in the food chain: )

  • Hey!!! The video was extremely informative.would u please guide me or can u please clear my doubts??? My question is I m 23 year old and today have started to take protein powder. Is it good or bad for my health as m a girl.

  • I am a bit sceptical. What about those who have high blood sugar condition they also urinate frequently. Is ot that their kidneys are very healthy?

  • Can you still bulk muscle while eating at a caloric DEFICIT, even when the protein amount in that deficit diet is more than 3g/kg? (Assuming enough resistance training too of course)

  • Kinesiology has nothing to do with bodybuilding… that tells me you don’t know what you’re talkin about… why don’t you talk about steroids and protein synthesis!

  • Hi dear, I am Brazilian and a big fan of you
I wonder if in my case, I’m vegetarian, need to make use of some protein supplement to build muscle or could do only by diet?
    your sincerely
    Carol
ps: Is it okay to do HIIT workouts every day?

  • 250 ml Beetroot Juice
    250 Grams Curd
    100 Grams Oatmeal
    5 Teaspoons olive oil
    2 Tablespoons Almond Butter
    2 Tablespoons Frozen Fruits
    1 Tablespoon Honey
    1 Banana

That’s all you need after your Workout and not This Chemic Horseshit

  • I did notice that my acne got a little worse when I started taking in more protein. But Iv’e concluded that It was actually because I was sweating my hair gel onto my face during workouts.

  • I used to get sickening side pains when I would drink my protein shakes (even with plant based protein) and supplements in general… I would then get dizzy (probably blood pressure) and extremely dehydrated… it would last for over an hour in the morning after I took them… then i noticed that the days I didn’t take a protein shake or one without protein I was better off… I have since stopped all supplements and feel great and so is my physique… after a workout I simply munch on some jerky and I’m fine… from my experience don’t like to put anything synthetic or processed into my body

  • I witnessed a lot of cases (among friends) that got noticeable hair loss after taking protein supplement. Also some of them (that measured) got higher testosterone levels after. But this is not directly tied to protein intake itself. A lot of them changed life habits, start training regularly, stopped smoking and drinking, removed sugars from died, started eating healthier etc. and these habits changes DO increase testosterone. So maybe that is why we notice hair loss in people that take protein? Cos they actually do other stuff that increases testosterone and lead to healthier life habits (and unfortunately hair loss).

  • Is Custokebon Secrets useful to lost tons of weight? We have read numerous good things about Custokebon Secrets (google search it).

  • I’m 5ft 10in and my weight is 162ibs and i ball on a budget and Always consume at least 100grams of protein. I’m about 13 to 14% body fat and still don’t have defined abs.

  • Well it is said that 1g of protein per kg of body mass is ok. But thats an average income that every pearson should take. But I heard that 2g-2.5g per kg of body mass is for muscle gains. Sooo if Im 70kg I should take 70g of whey and the daily meals all together should provide an advocate amount of protein

  • This guy is simply straight forward and realistic. Easily the best fitness guru on youtube. Crazy that he doesn’t have 2-3 million followers.

  • Hey Coach! Christian Thibadeau said in one video, you need a spike in protein intake instead of a constantly elevated level to maximize muscle growth, which contradicts the 5 meal/day argument. What’s your opinion?

  • Lovely video content! Sorry for chiming in, I would love your opinion. Have you ever tried Yeyandon Hardgaining Transformer (search on google)? It is an awesome exclusive guide for learning how to go from skinny to packing on muscle without the hard work. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my friend at last got cool results with it.

  • Thank you so much for this video!!! I was really confused as far as these proteins are concerned. There is so much false info about it on the Internet. Now I know that I don’t really need that powder and I’m glad that I didn’t buy it. What I do instead is to eat eggs, cottage cheese, natural youghurt and some meat as well as veggies:)

  • I’m slowly building up my diet mostly based on Greg’s teachings:

Meal 1 French toast 42 g protein (4 eggs, 3 slices wholegrain bread)

    Meal 1.1 Snack on fruit

Meal 2 Lunch varies from 40 70 g protein (usually beans, fish/chicken, veggies)

Meal 3 Sandwich/Wrap 20 g of protein (ham, turkey ham, tuna mayo, burger patty + some greens like spinach or lettuce all on wholegrain bread)

Meal 4 Bowl of salad & Protein smoothie 40 g protein (40 g pea protein, 10 g hemp protein, 3 g collagen powder; 50 g frozen berries, half a frozen banana, ginger, cinnamon, 3/4 glass water)

On the off-chance I’m still hungry I eat some air-popped popcorn or sugar free jelly.

Other substitute meals: ham & veggie omelette, pasta for lunch with ground turkey breast and tomato sauce, banana & blueberry pancakes.

I might start making homemade protein bars as a sandwich substitute in the future.

  • Does anyone know why 5 meals a day is the right number for Greg? I know everyone is different and everybody feels differently for the diets. Haven’t come across how he came to that conclusion or his data on why he believes that. I’m not discounting this ideas just wanting more details to help understand why he believes this. I personally eat 4-6 times because I feel good and need that meet my own nutritional goals so I dont disagree with him. Thanks for anyone that can help!

  • I’m going to debunk you on this, there’s a scientific study out there that was done on rats, one group(A) ate all their calories in an 8 hour window, the other group(B) ate the same amount of calories throughout the day. Group A rats actually gained lean muscle mass, Group B got worse physically. I’ll find the study tomorrow

  • Holyy crap I’m still learning after all these months of videos from Greg.. I’m just taking notes at this point.. Every rant in a sentence is new information. It’s crazy..

  • Can you also include a video of how much amino acid your body needs? Or creatine?
Damn this was helpful. I subscribed instantly when I saw the researched you did.

  • Its still astonish me just how lots of people don’t know about Custokebon Secrets (just search it on google) despite the fact that lots of people lost a ton of weight with it. Thanks to my personal buddy who told me about it. I have lost a lot of fat.

  • Guess what, I live in a 3rd world country and protein my daily food isn’t enough so YES, I’d rather drink whey protein to augment the lack of it in my food.

  • Excellent Video! Forgive me for chiming in, I would appreciate your thoughts. Have you thought about Chireetler Immediate Muscle Rule (Sure I saw it on Google)? It is an awesome exclusive product for learning some fast muscle building techniques minus the normal expense. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my close friend Aubrey after a lifetime of fighting got astronomical results with it.

  • WRONG, you dont need more protein cutting(unless doing so for satiation), protein spares protein, and your body will only use so much protein, beyond this point it gets used as carbs and its not GRAY where there is some range where some is used as protein and some as energy. and the proven maximum is 0.64-0.82g/lb body weight. these numbers apply to natruals. https://mennohenselmans.com/the-myth-of-1glb-optimal-protein-intake-for-bodybuilders/

  • I heard when you are ON SOMETHING that you can eat more or less carbs that the body uses it more efficiently.

The studies are based on normal people that are not on any gear

  • If people knew how to eat balanced meals they would not need to do any math. I’ve never tracked calories, protein etc. when I was lifting I just ate more food. It’s simple and as long as you listen to your body you are good. Also if you are tracking protein, only count animal based protein, unless you are juiced.

  • i ate 5 eggs 5 meatballs 200 gr ham and 300gr protein powder(yes 300gr). 1 kilo bananas and 800 gr baked beans in tomato sauce.
    im 150 lbs!
am i going to die? or just poop a lot? cuz i pooped a looooooot

  • What exactly is Fopobiacne Secrets? How does this thing really work? I notice many people keep on speaking about this popular natural acne remedy.

  • i eat less meats after i realized the v of meats i had everyday was 2 much for m body to absorb the energy and nutrition. so after a while i feel extremely healthy after tried not having that much meats i normally ate in a day before and i discovered you dont even have to go to gym to burn your fat, it was just too much meats you put into your system…and on top of that you drink or eat pure protein things that would make your arms strong but looks like there is only one big muscle in them….

  • The research presented in the study in question is not flawless. For those of you who are not willing to read the whole thing or don’t have the knowledge to fully understand all of the nuances around it, my advice is to take this video with a grain of salt.

  • Just curious, what are your thoughts on The China Study and Fork’s Over Knives? That study suggests animal-based proteins make it extremely likely the consumer will develop cancer or heart disease.

  • The only I question is when he says there’s no point in eating every two to three hours. If people generally sleep 8 hours a day (he recommends it) then that leaves you 16 hours left. If you try to divide 5 meals in those 16 hours that means your having meals every three hours. So what does that mean Greg? Do we eat every 3 hours or not? If we need 5 meals of protein.

  • V-Shred told me I need one gram of protein for every pound of body weight he is. He never told me how much he weighed. Love V-Shred.

  • i don’t know man i am like 54 kgs and 6 foot and 20 yo should i take protein or die, btw i know my friend who was thin as me he took that and he turned into hulk, it’s shitty somehow he looks like he can’t fit the door like a fucking toy or smth but i see no muscles on him just that hulk bulk size,

  • cite me the study that shows multiple meals of protein equals better hypertrophy… you won’t. they’ve shown that with calories and protein equated muscle hypertrophy was equal with the intermittent fasting group vs the groups who eat frequent meals.

  • If you’ve seen my other videos, you’ll notice that the recommendations here differ from what I’ve said in the past. After doing more research on the matter, I believe that these recommendations are much more accurate than my older videos. Keep in mind, though, that you can still see positive effects from my old recommendations but these, IMO, are more optimal. If you have any questions or criticism, feel free to leave it here! Thanks

  • Hi I’m 23 years old I take a Pea based protein because when I took whey I had really bad indigestion and acne. After 2 years of no protein. (I hated the side effects for that long) I switched to pea and although it tastes much worse I feel much better and I have no acne, bloating and I don’t feel lethargy. I know alot of other people may have had the same problems. Definitely worth a shot.

  • Guys. lost a ton of weight doesn’t need to be hard (I used to think it did). I will give you some tips right now. Look for a popular lose weight diet plan called Custokebon Secrets (just google it). Thanks to it I’ve lost a ton of fat. I probably should not even be talking about it cause I do not really want a bunch of other guys out there running the same game but whatever. I’m just in a excellent mood right now and so I’ll share the wealth haha.

  • Damn, I learned on this video and multiple others that I’m waaaay too low on protein for what I put my body through. Time to up my game I guess.

  • Age:20
    Weight:68
Full body workout 3 days per week alternate days and some light Sprint everyday
    But can’t manage calories
And can take protein 51 to 76 gm per day
    Am I ruining my body?

  • Can somebody tell me howmuch protein i need to eat per day to make muscles. Iam 13 years old and i do sixpack training swimming and bit lifting

  • it’ll mean a lot me to if you’d answer a consumer survey on alternative proteins! It takes 3 minutes and will really help in my postgrad research!:)
    https://newcastle.onlinesurveys.ac.uk/opinions-on-the-future-of-protein

  • I had the most strength and best health with 0 complete proteins
Plant or animal. Everything you eat contains a mixture of amino acids. By eating a wide variety of whole foods you easily consume all the necessary amino acids. Therefore building a good quality protein.

  • Help me understand something, please. Your recommended ranges for weight loss (1.6-2.3 g/kg bw) and weight gain (1.2-2.2 g/kg bw) overlap. So what happens at, say, 2.0 g/kg bw — Id simultaneously lose AND gain weight?!

  • What are some ways to lost lots of fat? I read lots of good reviews on the internet about how Custokebon Secrets will help you lost a ton of weight. Has anyone tried using this popular weight loss methods?

  • I am doing STRENGTH Trainings…
    +135lbs pistol squat
    +25lbs one arm pull up
    +170lbs pull ups
    #IntenseBodyweight+AddedWeightExcercises

  • .78 grams per pound of lean body mass is once of the most recent findings. if you weigh 200 an think that when you are shredded you weigh 170 multiple 170x.8= 136. the other thing is that the longer you have been training and eating a diet rich in protein you body burns protein more efficiently so you don´t need as much. no bullshit

  • I take 2 scoops of gnc amc wheybolic 1 scoop is 77 cc and I’m bulking and I’m 16 and i didn’t eat today because I’m saving up for a big meal am I taking to many scoops?please replyy

  • I do find it hard to eat more than 130g of protein. My weight is 85, and I do lift heavy and often. It’s just hard to stuff so much meat/fish into myself. I do like meat/fish, but if I try to eat >500g of it a day I suddenly stop liking it for like a week.

  • I way about 125 lbs and am a 16 year old basketball player, I’m skinny and am trying to get big how many scoops should I generally take

  • I am 80kg of weight and I try to eat at least 170-180 grams of protein per day, sometimes going up to as high as 230 grams. I am very happy with my results:) I feel light and I am losing a lot of weight on a caloric deficit, most of which seems to be fat.

  • You need a lot of protein, i started using more protein after workouts and in a month time my strenght increased a lot.

My tip is make a shake with
    2 scoop of protein powder
    250grams of curd cheese
    And add milk or water.

Drink that after each workout and say hello to the gainzz!

  • This is funny, I have been telling people this for a long time, the media and gotten everyone so convinced they need more protein.  People avoid healthy carbs and healthy foods, shove fatty protein filled foods down it’s scary.  I blame atkins.

  • how about if you repeat the study for people eating 0.8g/kg, or less, or a bit more like 1.0g/kg.

I am freaking anorexic and the hardest part about working out is eating enough to see the benefits from it. I can easily make a habit to go 6 times a week at the gym (although reasonably adjusting the volume to match or be slightly more than a 3 day/week workout)

  • Ok question. I have figured out how much protein I need to consume. Do I need to consume the same amount of protein and the other macros even on rest days or is it the same every single day whether or not you work out?

  • We need to have protein bars where we can laugh and drink our protein shakes (in a totally non gay way) and snort that white magic straight into our system to give a nice kick after workout.

  • Sir I am followers of your channel and speech.Sir I have a question
Can’t we build a mass body without protien powder?
Requesting you to please answer my question Sir

  • Eating 4 grams of protein per pound of your body weight make your penis big and wide and when you ejuclate. It will be like a super thick and powerful like a fire hose spray

  • You can always still adhere to unprocessed foods and less sugary beverages in fast food shop. If you are not aware of what you pick, you might as well mess up the nutrient intake in an organic food store.

  • Comment below what supplement(s) you’d like to see me cover next! Also, don’t forget to give me a follow on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/jeremyethier/ for more informative content thanks for the support everyone, hope you enjoyed this one!

  • i KNEW IT! It just makes sense that if your body already has protein in the system being digested from earlier in the day its going to keep using that before it starts using the new introduction of Whey…..good to finaly hear.

  • i am begginer and i am eating 2.2g 3g protein per kilogram as well as 300-500kcal more than my regular needs,i am really slim and i am starting to go into hard puberty do i think it isnt problem,i am 163cm and 45kg i am eating 2300-2500kcal and 100-120g of proteins,as well as training 3-5 days per week

  • They called me skinny before I started protein supplements. Now I’m still skinny, but with explosive farts and my shit has gained a lot of mass!

  • Whey protein is not healthy in a long run, it’s made out of milk, we are humans, not cows. You should consider using plant protein powder, from peas or something.

  • I’ve been running and working out like mad, but somehow I still have one pack belly. What am I doing wrong? Oh wait, I eat like a hippo

  • I get acne from sugar, too salty food and oily food. I take vegan protein and I don’t have any side effects from it. Actually I need it because I don’t really get that much protein. Now my skin is shining than before. I actually drink so much water everyday. Hope this is helpful to everyone. Thanks

  • As expert, I do think Custokebon Secrets is good way to lost a ton of weight. Why don’t you give it a chance? perhaps it can work for you too.

  • Does Custokebon Secrets really help to lost lots of weight? I have read numerous good stuff about this popular lose weight secrets.

  • They laughed when I told them I was going to lose weight with just implementing Custokebon Secrets, but after I showed these people amazing results after I used it they’re begging me to tell them about it. Of course I won’t tell them the details about this diet plan, hahaha

  • My Girlfriend wants to use the Powder for Gains, but I’m kinda Broke Right Now, so I’m Compensating by just shooting my own “special blend” of protein down her Neck…..She keeps saying it tastes funny though.

  • Protein synthesis requires a lot of water in the body as many of you would have realised. The thirst you experience soon after a protein shake is a sign of that. So I’m not sure how wise it is to have a protein shake right before sleep firstly you are putting a lot of stress on your kidneys in that restful state to synthesise the protein and secondly you will be quite dehydrated in your sleep and possibly wake up to pee. Not advisable

  • It’s rare to find a video on youtube that is this succinct, informative and lacking in some jackass rambling about their lives as if it matters to anyone but themselves. There’s too many 20 minute long endless waste of time videos and not enough like this one which simply convey information that a person is looking for. Very helpful and informative, thank you.

  • And other. Hand I got muscle med brand protein. Not use it. That cost too much in store. I am waiting to use when I get back to gym. But I am using amino in a pre work out I got from L.A. fit expo. Other pre workout. BCCA.drinks.

  • Lovely video content! Apologies for butting in, I would appreciate your initial thoughts. Have you researched Yenabriel Deadlift Smasher (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now)? It is an awesome one of a kind product for discovering a secret to skyrocketed your deadlift minus the normal expense. Ive heard some super things about it and my mate finally got great success with it.

  • No doubt that the protein companies had one of the best marketing departments ever. It’s not useless, but I would guess that 90% of people use it wrong and therefore it’s completly useless.

  • For the past couple of months I could not figure out why my skin was getting WAY WAY worse. I am breaking out daily….. Now it makes sense… I started using whey protein around the time my skin began to worsen. Glad I found this video. Gonna try plant based now.

  • Great advice as always. I loved the bit about not just taking one macro (ie protein) and glorifying it. It’s funny how we all seem to forget about our body needing carbs and fats too… Carb shake anyone?

  • What is the best product or brand to lost lots of fat? I read lots of good reviews on the internet about how exactly Custokebon Secrets will help you lost crazy amounts of weight. Has anyone tested out this popular fat burn diet plan?

  • wow yours had really help me alot, now i had learned more that i didnt knw before abt whey protein, its my next target now thanks alots

  • Good clip. A shame it says only something about growth in strength and does not say something about muscle growth in centimeters.
I think most people take them for growth not strength.

  • If i was to take protein, lets say from eggs in the breakfast or/and from meat at lunch would it be considered i have already had protein before work out (lets say i hit the gym in the evening) so i should consume the whey after work out

  • guys if u waant to gain weight just buy serious mass i was 55 kg before taking it now im 70 kg
but u gotta train hard to build muscle

  • I read lots of great opinions on the internet about how exactly Custokebon Secrets will help you lost tons of fat. Has any one tried using this popular lose weight secrets?

  • Complete protein is a myth. I was really surprised to hear you guys talk about this. Here is a good article to update you on this.

“Where did the concept of essential amino acids come from and how was the minimum requirement for essential amino acids derived? In 1952, William Rose and his colleagues completed research to determine the human requirements for each of the eight essential amino acids. They set the minimum amino acid requirement equal to the greatest amount required by any single person in their study. Then to arrive at the recommended amino acid requirement, they simply doubled the minimum requirements. This recommended amount was considered a definite safe intake.

Today, if you calculate the amount of each essential amino acid provided by unprocessed plant foods and compare these values with those determined by Rose, you will find that any single whole natural plant food, or any combination of them, if eaten as one’s sole source of calories for a day, would provide all of the essential amino acids and not just the minimum requirements but far more than the recommended requirements.

Modern researchers know that it is virtually impossible to design a calorie-sufficient diet based on unprocessed whole natural plant foods that is deficient in any of the amino acids.”

  • Yep a normal person with body fat 15-20% that wants to build muscle they can get more than enough from diet. However someone that is above 20% body fat and wants to add a caloric deficit to their diet might find it easier to maintain the normal protein requirements with 1 or 2 scoops of whey/day to avoid muscle loss and even increase muscle gain while loosing fat. For me 1 scoop is adequate.

  • Kudos for the video content! Forgive me for the intrusion, I am interested in your thoughts. Have you tried Yenabriel Deadlift Smasher (do a search on google)? It is a smashing exclusive guide for discovering a secret to skyrocketed your deadlift without the hard work. Ive heard some awesome things about it and my mate after a lifetime of fighting got cool results with it.

  • Almond milk? That sh*t full of sugars. 50 names for sugars. Google it.

All those bs dairy/milk, walnut/peanut/almond/hemp/lactose free ALL FULL OF SUGARS.

Eat some steak/meat & drink a soda instead.

  • Daniel and Kelli are just a one stop shop for all fitness questions ever. I was trying to learn about protein and the first video i searched was of Fitness blender’s. They have absolutely accurate information and they talk in a manner where it makes me trust them more and more. Thankyou.

  • I beg to differ some protein powders are straight out garbage
They use milk concentrate NOT isolates and soy WTF soy is an estrogen it lowers testosterone in men so yeah not all protein powder are created equal

  • I can eat a simple Poke bowl with 450 calories and a shamrock farms protein builder 190 calories/30g protein, I’m full as fckk after drinking that thing.

  • your body doesn’t absorb liquid protein that well. The maximum liquid whey protein it can absorb is 10 grams an hour.

  • What are some ways to lost a lot of weight? I read loads of superb reviews on the net about how Custokebon Secrets can help you lost crazy amounts of fat. Has anybody tried this popular fat burn methods?

  • thanks again, thanks for responding, I been checking alot your videos since I subscribed, you have a ton of great videos and good info..

  • Guys don’t listen to this guys say he doesn’t really know much if this was a body builder than he but the guys has stick arms no abs

  • also listen to your body if you observer your body well enough you can actually see what works for you, listen to your appetite, you gains, fatigue and performance least that works for me

  • i have a question. I think bigger muscle is not always mean your max strength. I am saying because i have seen in my real life steroid user are huge in muscle growth but they can’t able to beat farmer in “Arm wrestling, working stamina ” i know it is depends on daily work, how yoy trains, and genetic factors. But still one question arise is
Does steroid muscle will be strong in view of strength and stamina? I not understand because my concepts is you giving stuff which your muscle requires to grow. So why still steroid/protien supplement muscle guys are weak.?

  • Hi
    I have a question:
They always say that the supplement is just a supplement by definition so it is added next to food to meet your daily protein intake but what some people hear this video they may take for example 2/3 of their needed daily protein intake from supplement and 1/3 from food
    Does this still right way?
    Thanks for your video…

  • ACCORDING TO THE INTSTRUCSIONS ON THE GAIN FAST PROTEIN POWDER, DO I HAVE TO REALLY FOLLOW BY IT OR IT DEPENDS?
BECAUSE I FEEL THAT WILL BE TOO MUCH OF SCOOP TO USE

  • Hi I just purchased a wheybolic amp from gnc and it comes with a scoop that says 72 cc and on half it says 36 cc. Can anyone help me figure out if 72 cc counts as two scoops or only one scoop? I’m supposed to take 2 scoops but I don’t know. Thanks:)))

  • I’m using a Carnivor Mass. It mentioned taking 4 scoops with 16oz twice a day. But my trainer told to take 1 scoop for a serving After breakfast, evening and dinner. Is that method is working?

  • Protein shakes used to be frowned on, at least newbies taking shakes rather than eating real food. But then Whey came along. If someone is trying build on a budget would it be OK to take more whey shakes daily? Whey is fairly cheap compared to quality meats, but is still good quality protein. For example, in the UK £1 a day on whey powder could get you say 75 g of protein. Whereas £1 a day on chicken would only get you 24 to 55 g of protein.

  • It’s easy. You wanna be big and muscular. You should eat like animal 4-6 times per day, only food that contain alot of proteins. Or if you are a rich guy, take alot of shakes with whey powders. And for about half year you will look good. Still this is not enough to look like a beast, than you should start taking steroids or other things.

  • Idnetify -Lean body weight for non bodybuilders. Lets say hypothetically speaking What if there is a 400 lbs man(mostly fat) should he take 400 grams of protein? You know for those wondering.

  • I’ve stopped using protein powder for a few months and I have replaced it with egg whites. It’s much better in my opinion, I cut all processed food out of my diet and that includes protein powder, just sticking to real food for now.

  • I drink protein shakes but I really don’t like them. Although they may contain less than 2g sugar, the taste is too sweet. I’m just wondering how many sweeteners added to those protein powders.

  • This si more important to me bse I have just changed to consuming one scoop of 25 grams per day and maintaining food of 20-25grams of food not like before I ever used 46grams of protein

  • just to clarify. is this like 1g/lb for protein as in chicken? or the acutal % protein within the chicken, which would be less than the weight of the chicken.

  • I’m sure what you’re doing works and I like your videos, but consider that protein intake may in fact be closer to 1 gram per kilogram of body weight instead of per pound, which would be mixing metric and non-metric. The RDA for protein for adult males is 0.8g per lb per day, found on page 4 of this document: http://fnic.nal.usda.gov/sites/fnic.nal.usda.gov/files/uploads/macronutrients.pdf so for a 180lb male, it’s about 66 grams of protein per day.

It makes no mention of athletes, but for your edification I found this handy: https://www.dietaryfiberfood.com/protein/protein-requirement-for-humans.php
It says athletes may need up to 2 grams per kg of body weight. so for 180lb male it’s about 163 grams per day. More than that and extra protein would likely be excreted.

  • I’m 200lbs, 15% body fat, and 140g of protein a day is plenty for me. Roughly 0.8g per lb. Easy to keep track of, and extremely easy to consume throughout the day.

  • If you’re on anabolic steroids you can take huge amounts of protein in at once. if you’re not you can take in about 20 to 25 grams per meal assuming you’ve had an adequate amount of strenuous exercise.

  • Do u really need THAT much protein when natural?
I have heard the one-gram-per-pound recommendation before, but mostly from athletes known to have taken steroids, where protein synthesis is abnormally high!

  • Keep in mind that protein absorption varies from person to person. For a normal person, I wouldn’t go more than 40 grams per shake since you’ll be pissing out the excess grams anyway. Also, if protein supplements are gonna be a staple in your diet, it better be either hydrolyzed or a quality whey blend or good night sweet liver and colon.

  • I think maybe it would have been good too also mention the body’s ability to assimilate so many grams of protein and a specific time window as well. For instance, it wouldn’t help them chickens soon 50 grams of protein in one shake or serving and you know the rest of the story. This is a great video at the same time!
