Returning to workouts after a break 4 Week FBBurn results This is the difference in my body after a forced 2 month rest period, versus 1 month back into physical activity. I followed 4 Week FBburn for my workout program. Related: Returning to workouts after a break 4 Week FBBurn results. No one is immune from sidelining events. There are innumerable reasons why one might be forced to take an extended rest period from exercise, and each of us will more than likely face this scenario on at least one occasion.

Injury, illness, and LIFE happens. A weight that’s about 60% of your maximum works well. Plan on gradually increasing the load over a 4 week period until you’re back to what you were lifting before your break.

If you experience significant soreness, don’t increase the weight again for another few workouts. The 4-Week Back to Business Plan. If it’s been six months or more since performing any regular exercise, the following plan isn’t for you. Use a more “beginner” style workout like Starting Strength and slowly work your way back into it.

This is also NOT the workout to follow immediately after surgery. Step 4 Plan Ahead. Finally, one of the most important things for you to consider when you’re getting back into your training is to plan ahead. Getting used to putting time aside for your fitness can be really challenging after a long time off as you often have other things that will be filling up your time. Meghan Callaway, a strength coach based in Vancouver, Canada, recommends starting with three full-body strength workouts per week, taking at least one day to recover in between.

Each workout should include exercises that focus on the main movement patterns: squat, hinge (e.g., banded pull-through), lunge, vertical push (e.g., shoulder press), horizontal push (e.g., pushup), vertical pull. “After a break, look back at your training data to identify what you can and can’t handle in terms of volume and intensity.” If you’ve had a slightly shorter off-season break you should return to. Week Four: 4×3, rest 120 seconds. Week Five: 5×5,4,3,2 rest 120 seconds.

Don’t get me wrong: strength is still important. But after a layoff, you’re better off playing it conservative and giving your body time to adapt instead of doing what you used to do. 2. Living by the Body Part Split. Body part splits are great for the 10% of.

  • I can relate to this. Prior to January of this year I was stressing a ton about work, not eating right. Sometimes it was 5 in the afternoon and I hadn’t ate yet. I slowly lost weight over the next two or three years. I was 109lbs and 5’6 in January. Starting to get worried about my weight, I decided it was time to do something about it.

    I began eating a big bowl of oatmeal in the morning sometimes with fruit with soy milk and a bit of brown sugar for sweetener. Two sandwiches for lunch with a lean meat cheese and Mayo, usually with tomatoes sometimes spinach depending on my taste along with some sort of healthy dry snack with it. Potato chips, etc. Filling in time between meals with trail mix or other fruits. Eating more veggies at dinner and carbs and always eating an hour before bed. Also started to drink more soy milk in the day. I can happily say I’m now 122lbs 6 months later and it’s not entirely muscle gain. I feel a lot better. You don’t need weight gainer or powders. Just lots of nutrients dense food.

  • I am so happy you posted a video about gaining weight the healthy way. There is so much negativity out there today about body image and what we should all look like.

    Personally, I have a more muscular body type with fat spread over my body evenly. I started doing HIIT exercises and eating 6 times a day like you mention here and I have been able to reduce my body fat and increase my muscle mass. I do use a beef protein powder after workouts. I don’t run. I don’t bike. I do HIITs and I swear by them. I monitor body fat and muscle mass with a coach and in 3 months I dropped 6% body fat and gained 3% muscle.

    The biggest shocker was that eating more, as long as it’s healthy food, can result in the results you want. I always thought eating less would result in weight loss but that never happened. Exercise and give your body the fuel it needs to function at its best!

    just some person tips bc i eat more or less healthy and i actually enjoy green smoothies etc its always been hard for me to gain, but snacking on nuts really get those calories in. and stocking your kitchen is really key. also, sometimes its easy as the day goes by to just not eat until you’re really hungry (which is my biggest problem as I’m so busy) but try walking around with healthy stuff to snack on or pick up something. the key is to always munch on something every 2-3 hours in addition to your meals.

  • This is the first time I am doing a FB workout that is focusing on a particular muscle group. It seems so easy to me! Especially when I am always short on time and end up doing full body workouts by FB that make me breathless (with the sneaky cardio that you involve) and makes each muscle sore the next day. I was even able to lift higher weights than Kelli, and I’m honestly shocked by own strength levels! Thank you FB! You’ve changed my life!

  • Sean, question…I believe this video would more effective if you actually showed your viewers the imperial data you have that actually debunks VShreds claims. When a person is challenging anothers claims as being fraudulent and/or misleading you have got to prove it with data to debunk or else it make you look jealous and stupid. Also, the aerobic fitness guy you should was solid, so I’m not quite sure why you jabbed him. Please explain!

  • I had an annoying debate with my dad about how vshred is not necessarily giving good advice like putting peanut butter on your fruits. My dad used the example of putting peanut butter in our protein shakes but the point of the shake is to GET PROTEIN after the work out to help muscle repair and muscle building. I am still a novice to working out and info and nutrition but i am trying to research to help myself and maybe one day help others. Great video

  • This was an excellent workout really enjoyed the increasing weight with decreasing reps and the challenge of upping weights. Loved the warm up, cool down and stretch being included,and that you hold a stretch for at least 20 seconds so that it’s effective. I’m definitely going to feel that tomorrow.

  • This is the reason why I absolutely love your channel and have become more comfortable with working out. I am very thin and quite timid. I have been called so many heartless things by family and friends about my weight not realizing that words really hurt. We don’t go around saying, “you’re so fat, you should eat a salad” so then why do people go around and say “you’re so scrawny, go eat a burger?” This video gave me more confidence and assurance that I am not working out and eating better to look good (though that’s a plus) but I am working hard to be healthy.   • Being “too skinny” my entire life was the subject of so much abuse for me growing up and still as an adult. People so easily called me bony, a stick, anorexic, etc. It made me feel worthless. I didn’t begin to love myself until my late 20’s. Words are just words but they can cut like knives.

I used to be 45kg (i’m 173cm) and i was always on a diet, i had body issues i would exercise 7 days a week until i was too exhausted to move which lead to knee problems and all sorts of issues.About four years ago i started following your workout plans and my health turned around. I’m a healthy weight i fixed my relationship with food and i feel stronger than ever! Keep doing what you’re doing because you have such a huge impact on people’s lives!

  • Tricep kickbacks are garbage no matter how you do them. All you need for triceps is any sort of bench but especially close grip, weighted dips, skull crushers or dumbell extensions and push dows for volume can be a nice finisher. Vshred is a moron and I’m convinced that the only reason he even looks as good as he does is because he has good genetics.

I have a lot of loose skin around my abdomen after a 130lb weight loss, but am currently quite skinny and would like to do a strictly controlled lean bulk to gain muscle. I’ve been told that in order to bulk you should have visible abs, but after nearly 2 years of light training I still cannot see my abs well under the loose skin even though I think they’re fairly well developed. Is it unreasonable for me to begin lean bulking if I can’t see my abs under the loose skin? I’m 165lbs, 6’1, and 20 y/o.

  • For strength training/ muscle building, would you guys say it was better to alternate your focus each day (so one day just do upper body, next day lower body), or is it better to do upper & lower body in each work out? I only really have time to work out 3 or 4 days a week.

  • I recommend reverse dieting to gain weight. This gives the bodies metabolism time to keep up with the caloric surplus and minimize fat gain.

  • Question in regards to low repitition of exercises (sorry my english bad ) like i heard swimming burns alot of calories but im really small like skinny so i was wondering, like say i swim instead of like 10 laps i cut it to only 4 but in those 4 i push really hard and go all out then call it a day does dat work as a substitiute to like strength training exercises. Im trying to gain but hard really hard for me:(. Thank you

  • He may be stupid but u ohoooohoho. I think u talk too much just like those guys in gym. Not a fan of vshred nor u. U guys do too much criticism on other but can handle by ur self. Stay healthy

  • I only use the same weight for most of those exercises and do an extra couple each set. Only cuz I don’t have your interchangeable weights.
    After doing this workout it was my elbow joints that were sore but I have a touch of arthritis so I suppose that is to be expected. Shoulders are nicely warmed up.
    Definitely not a sweaty workout, which I didn’t want anyway. Good job Kel, say hi to Dan.

  • I would love an upper body workout, that wortks the other way around: High weight in the beginning until failure, then lower weights until you can just manage bodyweight. Thank you so much for the videos!:)

  • Thank you for this! I was underweight and my parents would force feed me TONS of food and I felt uncomfortable. I am now at a healthy weight and I wish I had appropriate information about this in the past.

  • Really thought provoking video! When I first started I did alot of circuit style workouts. It wasn’t until I started a program based around compound exercises ie bench press, deadlift, pullups that I saw any real muscle growth. A lot of the issues you mentioned today I think were the cause of that. Great video

  • Thanks for this video! I can’t believe this topic is so avoided by everyone. Ever since I stopped gaining height I’ve never got a pound of weight. I’m 6 ft and 150 lbs. I’m really athletic and get quick results in weight training in terms of strength but my own weight stays fixed no matter what I try. If anything, my morning weight is usually a couple pounds or more lighter after long periods of massive eating like Christmas. Sure I am quite active but I also eat more than anyone I know. It’s kinda troublesome at times but I guess I can’t really complain. I enjoy food so I’ll gladly be stuck like this if the alternative is to keep a strict diet.

  • I agree with everyone else that says these guys are amazing, they make getting in shape less intimidating which lead to me making excercising at home a simpler part of my routine. I dreaded getting ready just to drive to the gym to go work out. When I started feeling more energy I then had the urge to get out and do more activities like hiking and camping which has been amazing. Thank you guys!

  • I’ve been doing your videos exactly like you suggested in this video. I used to never do strength training but as I started, my body is gaining a lot of muscle and I’m gaining weight and I know it is making me healthier. For once I am not afraid to gain weight, I embrace it and I owe that a lot to you guys <3 As a vegetarian, I highly suggest to any other vegetarian / vegan looking to gain weight: NUT BUTTERS! Literally peanut butter makes a huuuge difference for me. And a great meal is peanut butter with banana on whole grain bread/english muffin. It is healthy and has a good amount of calories.

  • You make some good points in here. I do want to say that I don’t watch Greg Doucette because when I first started looking on the internet for current practices, all his videos looked to be just him tearing down other people, so I’d advise against doing too much of this type of thing. Now I don’t do compound exercises like this guy is talking about, but I will alternate between doing say, a squat, and then a set of abs while resting my legs, in order to move my workout along. I also think it helps to keep your heart rate up, though I’ve seen other people talking about resting being essential for improving cardio fitness (shrug).

  • hey so glad you covered this topic. i cant really name any health expert i follow who would really talk on this topic its like they never think of something like this as if its alien to them.
    and i have gained 2 pounds just added natural cane sugar with ghee to my diet. ( look up the internet how to make ghee it has numerous health benefits)
    also i have been eating ground flax seed for the past 2 months. 3 teaspoons ( agains its a healthy diet to add into your life)
    Women do SLOW vinyasa or hatha yoga if your looking to built muscle and gain healthy weight. fast workouts or fast yoga classes are not your path i have been there. We the weight gainers are gonna loose weight wayyy quickly with fast paced exercises. Listen and allow your body to really tell you how its feeling after a particular workout
    and if your vegan like me eats lots of brocaly, lentils, chick peas and dry fruits it all help in a healthy way to put on weight

So my question (in terms of strength training) is have you seen/heard of the Body Beast Program that comes from the Beachbody world? Is that something that a novice/intermediate individual would have success with? Thanks for your time!

  • And how does it work for vegetarians? I am 15 and I have been severely underweight due to mental health issues. I have gained back (some of) the weight I lost, but now I feel like gaining those extra 3-4kg would help me be more confident. And my only protein sources, as a veggie, are: beans, pulses (lentil,chickpeas etc), eggs, low-fat cheese, nut butters (not too much), oats and protein bars everyday after I’ve finished exercising.
