So at this next go-round, your body may gain weight by you eating even a lower amount of calories than before. Ultimately this starvation may have you packing on the pounds in no time at all. In addition, many people also find that when they go to eat after a period of starvation they tend to overeat.

Eating habits based on a starvation-type diet elicits certain physiological changes inside the body that work to conserve energy. In the long run, this adaptation may sabotage your weight-loss efforts. To lose weight, you have to eat. Understanding the calories your body needs and strategies to burn fat will lead to successful, long-term weight loss. You might want to set your calorie counter at zero for the whole of next week to lose a few kilos.

You will be surprised to know that starvation diets do not lead to loss of weight in the long run, starving would instead lead to weight gain! Starvation the enemy of healthy weight loss and it can lead to loss of muscle mass, rebound weight gain and binge eating. Diet & Weight Management. they tend to add a few extra pounds because a slower metabolism makes it easier to gain weight. Worse, the weight that is regained is likely to be all fat lost.

The side effects of starvation or prolonged fasting for weight loss include headaches, dizziness, low blood sugar readings, muscle weakness, and tiredness. If you fast for a long time, then it can lead to iron deficiency anaemia, lowered kidney and liver function, weak immune system and heartbeat abnormalities. Starvation leads to many harmful effects, which can prove to be fatal.

It can also affect how you react to stress, induce feelings of anxiety and irritability, and lead to chronic or clinical depression in some cases. Now that you know how starvation can affect your body adversely, we hope that you will rethink about those starvation diets. “Starvation,” or severe food restriction with very low calorie levels, actually impedes weight loss. Although it seems contradictory, starving the body of food can make weight goals harder to achieve. However, drastically restricting calories can come with potential side effects or even make your body go into starvation mode.

Starvation mode can reduce energy expenditure, make it difficult to lose body fat, and possibly lead to weight gain. Those who choose starvation diets typically regain most of the weight within only a few years. It primes your body to gain fat easier in the long term and decreases your BMR, making it harder for your body to do what it naturally does, burn calories for energy. Sustained weight loss was found only in a small minority of participants, while complete weight regain was found in the majority.

Diets do not lead to sustained weight loss or health benefits for the majority of people.” But there is still hope for those looking to permanently shed pounds. It just takes more than a diet.

List of related literature:

Humans who are eating a low-calorie diet have low levels of leptin and this is why such diets seem to produce the increased sensations of hunger, which would of course explain the weight gain so often experienced after initial weight loss, and the difficulty of maintaining that weight loss in the long term.

  • Help! How do you explain rising insulin levels with 18 hour intermittent fasting, strict keto (under 20 gross carbs and 70-75% fat), OMAD, AND some water fasting. Please note, I did not say increased glucose levels. My Fasting insulin levels have increased.

  • I could listen to you forever. Thank your for this video. It makes a lot of sense. Medications are the WORST in weight gain. I wish I had a doc like you that could help me change my meds to help in my 2.5 hours of fitness training daily. I feel like my weight training and cardio can be all in vain.

  • I think it’s worth mentioning that it’s easy to fail when you’re treating the process like it’s some short-term quick fix, such as adopting habits that you’re not committed to sticking with for the long haul (likely because you perpetually hate said habits). I feel as though the remedy to this is to somehow make sure that you’re enjoying your new habits and to warm up to the idea of keeping them virtually forever.

We’re all different, so every process can have a personalized flair. The trick is figuring out how to do that, and that involves some research and a fair amount of knowing and understanding ourselves.

  • I wish I had locate this diet guide a long time ago. For 3 weeks of adopting the programs, I get rid of TWELVE pounds There is still need of workouts even just a few times weekly and also the foods to consume must be right. It showed wonderful results for me. I absolutely highly recommend the product, hope it works as good for you mainly because it does for me. Find a right guide is not easy, you can discover on Google. Guide’s name is Bella Kaγozko
    good luck

  • he seems to be making perfect sense, except for one thing: I do severely limit my daily net carbs to just 69 grams per day, and yet continue to weigh 340 pounds

  • Anybody tested out the Custokebon Secrets (look on google search engine)? I have heard many awesome things about this popular diet plan program.

  • Hello there, I want to know if Custokebon Secrets, will work for me? I see a lot of people keep on speaking about this popular lose weight diet plan.

  • I see lots of people keep on speaking about Custokebon Secrets (search on google). But Im uncertain if it is good. Have you ever tried using this popular diet plan program?

  • Its simper said than done. If you suffer with adrenal fatigue and hypoglycemia (low sugar levels) its impossible to lose weight by just not eating carbs, you will crash.
Also hormones als leptin and cortisol play a role.

  • if all this is true, then why is it that i have been following a very low carbs diet for some time now, and yet continue to be 160 pounds overweight? i will say that following this diet has made me no longer pre-diabetic, plus my blood pressure after many years of being too high has gone down to normal, and yet the fact remains that i am as fat as ever and i dont know why

  • Hi there, have you considered Custokebon Secrets yet? Just simply do a google search. On there you will discover a great guidelines about how you can lost a lot of fat. Why don’t you give it a chance? maybe it will work for you too.

  • Hey I’ve been on a diet for two weeks and when I checked the scale today I added weight instead of loosing it..dose anyone know why?

  • Do you want to lose weight without bothering yourself in anything, without diets and exercises in the gym? I advise you to read the book, which is also called “The Obesity Code”, but the author is another Christophe Lefebvre.

  • For your health -how to live to 100 -What causes blood clots and high blood pressure??
When the blood becomes thick and the platelets, the clotting cells, tend to stick together, a blood clot forms.
So what causes “thick” blood? Three main things:

    1) too much animal fat in the diet, dairy, fried foods, damage fats such as peanut butter, mayonnaise.(toxic)
    2) inadequate water drinking (dehydration),
    ( 3) stress, cortisol.
(4 not enough “Magnesium”” also deficiency in vitamin C, ” Vitamin B-6″ and Folic acid,Coenzyme Q10.
B-6 and Folic acid are very important vitamins to keep “homocysteine” low in the blood.
High “homocysteine” in the blood causes heart disease, cancer,Parkinsons, Alzheimer’s disease.

It’s no great secret that if one pours oil in water, the water becomes thicker.
So, when you eat animal fat (meat, poultry, fish, eggs and dairy, such as milk, butter, yogurt, ice cream, cheese, etc.) your blood becomes thicker.
It’s also not surprising that blood becomes thicker when one is dehydrated.

Blood is composed of two general main components: 1) blood cells: mainly red blood cells (rbc’s), that carry oxygen around to the organs and cells, white blood cells (wbc’s) that fight disease, and platelets, that help your blood clot when you are bleeding, and 2) serum, formed primarily from water and some proteins.

If your body is dehydrated, you may not have enough water to make enough serum. But you will still have the same volume of blood cells, therefore, your blood will be thicker! (Same volume of solids blood cells – but less fluid = thicker blood!)
But the total volume of blood in your body will be less because you have less serum than you should. The body has a splendid detection system for total blood volume.

When the blood volume is low because of dehydration, your body produces a substance that constricts the blood vessels so the amount of space in the blood vessels in your body will perfectly fit your total blood volume.
If there were a discrepancy, you could have an “empty space” in your blood vessels, theoretically causing an air embolus, an air pocket that, when traveling through the heart, could cause death. So the body’s mechanism to eliminate that possibility is very efficient.

Thick blood is also one of the main causes of high blood pressure, in addition to the animal fat deposits that cause a narrowing of the blood vessels, termed arteriosclerosis. When the heart has to pump thicker blood through narrower (constricted) blood vessels, the heart must pump at a higher pressure to push the blood through, leading to HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE!

Obviously, high blood pressure can be reversed – contrary to the dogma of conventional medicine,
if one just eliminates the causes as revealed here.
    -What causes dehydration?

The body loses ten glass of water every day just from the processes of daily living such as, digestion, making enzymes, etc. On hot days or when one is stressed, even more water is lost.
If we don’t replace that water by drinking pure water, we will become dehydrated. The body is 75% water and the brain and nervous system are 85% water. Please note that the body is NOT 75% Coke, or 75% coffee, or 75% milk. It is 75% WATER!

I am a Vegan I eat no fat,no oils and no meat!….I fast and I keep my blood sugar below 85
My homocysteines are low, my cortisol is normal, I eat only two meal a day my blood sugar is below 85..I fast two days a week..
animal proein and saturated fat creates high homocysteines in the body causing heart disease and cancer.

I you have heart disease you should eat a low “lectin diet ” -> avoid lectins! Lectins and fructose in fruit rot your arteries.
Fruit is another form of eating candy (fructose) damages your kidneys, brain and arteries.

The heart and arteries need magnesium, potassium, Coenzyme Q10, and vitamin C.

Sulfur (MSM) Our bodies need it for multiple reasons. It is not found in the soil as much in recent times. Thousands of years ago it was far more prevalent. Sulfur is the fountain of youth.

I take it everyday. I am 46 and people think I am 34. I take 8 grams of MSM Sulfur every day! best supplement to keep your skin young and kills fungus in the body…fungus is one of the causes of Cancer and skin disease. I love Sulfur mineral!

  • Dr. Fung has been a godsend. I tried the conventional wisdom, the counting calories and “calories in/calories out” model for decades with limited success and it was impossible to progress beyond a certain point. I’ve been putting his insight to work for over a year now and I’ve blown through past persistent plateaus and improved my body composition way more than I thought was possible. And it’s still working, unlike the conventional wisdom which consistently hit a wall about six months into it no matter how much I counted calories or exercised. It’s what you’re eating and the frequency with which you’re eating much more than the calories. The metabolic switch and controlling for insulin and other hormones and blood sugar are the key. That comes first, then being in a caloric deficit will actually be effective over time. I’m sure that I’m in a caloric deficit but I don’t count calories. I just practice time restricted eating and eat a healthy keto diet. I just focus on hormones including counter regulatory hormones like noradrenaline and glucagon, blood sugar, the metabolic switch, ketosis and hgh which is naturally upregulated early in a fast when you get the metabolic switch, insulin sensitivity, and anabolic sensitivity.

  • I’m so confused because from all the research I’ve done whole grains and plant based foods are best for you but those are higher in carbs? Isn’t carbs the body’s preferred energy source all this debate confuses me

  • I like the new outro music not as jarring as the old one. Also I’d like to say that this is one of the few female YouTube health/nutrition channels that I really enjoy. The info is always spot on and not dumbed down or diluted for women.

  • Seriously Dr fund needs to shut it and stop trying to make people carboforbs! He is a physician you guys can check out Biolyne PHD if you want to actually lose weight. Science is based on real life facts. It’s not that Dr Fung is wrong at the basic level, when you go against basic thermogenic laws you’re studies are misdirected. This is like a sick joke!

  • Hello, have you thought about this diet plan known as the Custokebon Secrets? My friend says it helps people lost crazy amounts of weight. Is that possible? I also noticed numerous excellent review about this diet plan. Thoughts?

  • This happened to me recently. Got hurt at work, had to stay home for a week, then got snowed in for a couple weeks. Got depressed and unmotivated and started eating a bunch of crap. Gained back 7-8 lbs of the weight I had worked so hard to lose. Fuck… Oh well, back on the horse!

  • Its still astonish me just how lots of people don’t know about Custokebon Secrets (do a search on google) although many people lost a ton of weight using it. Thanks to my personal pal who told me about this. I have lost tons of weight.

  • Hi I just had gastric sleeve done on June 22 2017 I’m 3 weeks out and I lost 26 pounds but now I’m gaining weight again is this normal please help me

  • Aoa…sir I do walk for 30 min even not consume such junk foods sweet.. but still my weight not loosing it gainingwhat the reason of this

  • I wonder why people still don’t believe in herbal treatments, I was on diet for good 5 years due to diabetes, this real weigh me down and caused serious depression. • Hey, I was wondering if you had any advice for me.
So About 3 weeks ago I started intermittent fasting, only eating a meal around 3pm and then around 6pm. i think my hormones were getting used to it about 5 days in so I wasn’t getting hungry in the mornings and early afternoons but then about 4 or 5 days in I noticed I was losing a lot more hair than usual. I didn’t think that much about it but then about a week and a half in most of my eyebrows and all my eyelashes fell out. I’ve stopped intermittent fasting since last Thursday and I take a lot of supplementary oils and honestly nothings really changed. I’m so confused and a lil bit concerned

  • I know a way to lose weight better by simply changing ONE of your habit. Read it in my book, which by the way is also called “The Obesity Code” by Christophe Lefebvre.

  • when you know it it is easy. When you do it it is HARD!!! No not do it…The Power of the FLESH and weakness of the submissive mind…even yogis get FAT…

  • The human body can metabolize muscle for both energy and synthesis, so actually, the body DOES store protein. Unfortunately, it will only “store” it when induced to synthesize muscle fibers, i.e., muscle hypertrophy through exercise.

  • I would love to see more about breaking through plateaus. I’ve been on Keto for 2 years now. I went from 325 to 245 in the first year, but absolutely can’t seem to get out of the 240’s even with exercising 4 to 5 days a week. I’m considering doing a short switch to the paleo and then going back to keto. I don’t know if that’s the best one to switch to and I don’t know how long I should do it for.

Your videos are awesome! Thank you so much!

  • If you get in a crash diet then yes, you’ll likely gain weight but this is not how it works. This video, as always, is soo misleading.

Stop trying to make unhealthy habits a thing for your propaganda and profit. And stop comparating beauty and health so you can justify yourself. Gosh.

“Diet” is a word that describes your eatig habits. It isnt the devil itself. If you keep a healthy diet (And get inform of what it’s actually an healthy diet) you’ll get healthier and lose weight if you got something you need to lose.

  • Ok I dont know if this is normal or not. But was wondering how many plateaus can someone hit? And how often should we evaluate if we are doing the right thing?

  • I ate 2500 (sometimes way more) + intermittent fasting + keto + no excercise in a year I lost almost 40kg.
The calories in, calories out theory is stupid and out dated. Our body does not has a calories calculator in it but it reacts to the type of food we take. 500 cals of sugar/carb is not the same with 500 cals of fat or protein in term of body reactions.
It’s the type of food you take and the timing of your eating that matters.

  • What does he mean towards the end when he said when you reduce the calories in your body is going to reduce the calories out? What does it mean that your body will reduce the calories out?

  • I started eating a plant based diet at the first of the year, mostly fruit, vegetables and legumes, very little grain maybe once or twice a month since I am diabetic. I initially lost 6 pounds and then another 4 pounds but now I keep going up and down those same last 4 pounds and I seem to be stuck. Is this my body lowering the set point? I am tempted to begin to calorie restrict. I am sedentary and can’t exercise much because I am coming out of a flare up from ankylosing spondylitis. I think I am eating between 1800-2000 calories and anywhere from 55-75 grams of fiber a day, should I cut the calories back to about 1300-1500? Would I start to lose again? I am 5’4, weigh between 215-219 and am post menopausal.

  • Do you have the RMR study link? I’d like to read how they tested the BMR? Did they use respirators, heat thermal imaging, what did they use to test?

Did the patients reverse diet to make sure fat cells weren’t restored, what happened when they stopped keto?

They surely can’t have left them after that 600-800calories a day is a tiny morsel of food

  • Sounds like keto to me. I tried keto for a couple of months and I have to say it really really works. High fat, good fat and hardly any carbs. To do keto they constantly remind you that it is FAT you need to consume, not protein. Because people keep eating chicken breast or steak thinking it is good fat but it is all protein.
I was eating 3-4 mostly egg yolks and 3 slices of bacon with a lot of fatty streaks in it. And I was cook my bacon in ghee (a kind of purified butter fat) that will keep me full till late afternoon. It really was very satisfying eating a high fat diet, you immediately lose your appetite for snacks and you don’t feel hungry. I loved it because I have a weak control over food and I’m a snacker. So to totally lose the craving for it was wonderful. For lunch I would have pork belly and in evening, avocado. (Just think high fat all the time) and sometimes I would even just cut a big chunk of pure grass fed Kerrygold butter and suck on that. Yes. Lol.
The diet really worked. From 170lbs I went down to 110lbs. I never felt so light and slim before. Having small slim arms and able to fit into old clothes and to see how good I looked in pictures…it was good. One thing I didn’t like though was saying bye to my tits. Lol.
Anyway yes the keto diet works. But realistically I couldn’t keep up with it for the rest of my life. Going out with friends, parties, etc, it is just not very convenient when you cant eat so many things. So after about 6 months, I went back to my regular diet. I remember the day I decided to get off the keto diet, I was craving an orange like crazy. So yeah. Back to normal diet. im doing my best to stay away from snacks and fast food. I totally don’t do soda so that’s good but I sometimes give in and have chocolates and ice cream. It’s all about portion control.

  • Hi Thomas, can I be on keto for 5 days and 2 days off keto? I want try keto for two or three months and then mix it up. Is this possible?

  • Hey Thomas appreciating your info yet again but now you have me wondering: if the fat cells can multiply and generate more cells, can this replication be undone? Are those extra fat cells something the individual has to live with for the rest of their life even if they loose lots of weight again?

  • So I should go on a diet if I want to gain weight? Is that why all that junk food doesn’t help me gain weight, and instead I should eat veggies and lose the pizza to finally reach my goal of a 3-digit weight?

  • Many people nowadays are trying to figure out the best method to drop weight. Then again, having the ability to find a diet plan that can work for you is hard to discover. A very important thing you want to understand is that a diet is effective for one person may not work for another. So you have to understand what your getting into before you begin one of those diets. Therefore we’ve opted to offer you a fantastic look at the Xtreme Fat Loss Diet. This may give you enough info to find out whether this really is something which is suitable to your requirements. Read more here https://rb.gy/xxjiq2

  • Has anyone used the Custokebon Secrets to lost tons of weight? Just do a search engine search. On there you will find an awesome tips about how you can lost crazy amounts of weight. Why don’t you give it a shot? perhaps it’ll work for you too.

  • Would i be right in saying that a thin person needs to eat carbs, and thus have higher insulin, in order to maintain a healthy weight and not get too thin?

  • Doesn’t it make more sense to think about fat as if it was like a electric car battery or fuel (and not a freezer)?
You eat and store it as fat (fill your tank/charge up), then if you need energy, you use the fat. Not the stuff you literally just ate. There is no way this is efficient in any way.
“Oh I have to hunt that deer better constantly eat something so that I have the energy to do so.”

  • I read lots of superb opinions on the net about how exactly Custokebon Secrets can help you lost a lot of weight. Has any one tried this popular weight loss diet plan?

  • The Inuit study also revealed that in an autopsy of their hearts and arteries revealed that these people had significant vascular damage. It was in some vegan video that I saw this (sorry, I can’t remember which one). I THINK you can counteract this with tons of green leefies and cruciferous, but I dunno.

I just decided it was easier to go plant based and only have animal products once or twice a month. The Inuits looked good but only on the outside. Sorry to be a bummer.

Thanks for your content, though, it’s very helpful! I still have some stubborn pounds to move:)

  • Hello Autumn! I love your approach on weight loss, nutrition and health. I was wondering, what’s your point of view on a Whole Foods diet?, since it’s basically getting most of your macros from Whole Foods (fruits, veggies, whole grains, legumes, healthy fats and good quality protein, all of them with as little processing as possible). I understand you’re a big proponent of a ketogenic approach for weight loss, but I’m curious if you would also see as beneficial the Whole Foods high protein approach to weight loss, with no real restriction on carbs, as long as they’re unprocessed and coming from highly nutritious foods.

  • Okay I fasted (700 calories) every day. I cheated once a week with one high calorie meal but not binge the whole day. When I got down from 195 to 135, i started adding 100 calories a day every week till I got back to 2000/day. If I have a cheat day, I’ll fast for two days top to balance my self out, after a fasting day the next day would be 1200 then 1500 then back to 2000. When I fasted, I hardly exercised but when I did, it was 30 minutes max. I walk a lot for my job so that helped. I unfortunately gained 10 lbs solely from having too many cheat days and not enough fasting days to makeup for it. I’m fairly happy with my body right now but every so often I’ll fast here and there before an event with food so I don’t move up on the scale but rather stay the same. So I’m just maintaining right now.

My credentials are that I am a certified personal trainer, CNA and student Nurse. I know the body and how it works but diets are subjective and everyone’s body responds differently.

My advice is after a “crash” diet is to ease back into eating an appropriate amount of calories, frequently see a dr or nutritionist, take multi vitamins, and do what I called “maintenance” and fast every so often

  • Try breaking into points then tackeling each thereafter with your aumptions, arguments and approch signed a long time Medical Physics PhD grad with tons of papers in science.

  • Thai guy may seem intelligent, but he is false. Most people with diabetes actually lose weight (including me) and insulin injections are actually prone to causing weight gain. It may be unhealthy but statistically, you actually lose weight due to extreme high blood sugar.

  • Thomas, thanks for posting this video. I had been so frustrated lately with why I’m so hungry after losing a lot of weight. I found this information helpful.

  • I love the Paleo diet, but it is important to take the 2 off days a week it gives you to indulge in some of the foods the diet eliminates (this does not mean eat only junk food for two whole days)

  • If you do intermittent fasting you stop craving foods. Food becomes business as it should be. Don’t complicate your life… Changing your relationship with food and making islt strictly business (with fasting) solves all problems.

  • Does Custokebon Secrets really work? I notice many people keep on talking about Custokebon Secrets. But Im not sure if it is good enough to lost tons of fat.

  • i’m conflicted. i don’t eat meat, so most of the protein sources i consume are either higher in carbohydrate, or unrealistic to consider as my protein source (hemp seeds, flax seeds, nuts)

i have been so torn for so long

  • Is there a reason to not try the Carnivore Diet? Lol I hit a wall losing fat, Im not slimming up any more. Im skinny fat… (started at 255 => 185)

  • Omg! This video is music to my ears I am going through rebound weight because of SAD right now. is being so hard I been on keto for 6 months with ton of weight off and still 40 more to go and is being so hard with the SAD season right now.

  • I feel like crying each time I see this man. It hurts to have spent lots of time n money doing the wrong things n same time really heart touching to know the little right thing to do. I can’t believe my weight loss in three months. I’m soooo grateful. I’ve made others around me listen to him too.

  • Diets fail because of people pushing bullshit fads like yourself. It’s a lifestyle change, learn to count calories and you’ll never need a “diet”.

  • @thomasdelaur -Does this process of multiplying fat cells occur if you spike your weight, say on a weekend after eating and/or drinking more than your regular calories for the week? Some of that quickly regained weight has to be water weight, right? If so, what’s the best way to bounce back? IF? Thanks!

  • *sighhhhhhhhhhhssss
If you lose weight fast out of nowhere this happens but if dieet you need to begin slowly and built it up then nothing will happen except you losing weight

  • Ok so if I don’t eat, my sugar crashes, I should eat what? If I eat carbs, the insulin I hv to take stores that excess as fat. Vicious cycle…..

  • Hi i have been doing IF since June 1st and doing 16/8 i am loving it but can i eat popcorn as a night snack i eat my last meal at 8 but my snack at around 9 is that okay

  • When you watch this and finally reach nirvana with the explanation of calorie…not the calorie.

As someone with a science and engineering background I understand what a calorie is, from a mechanical science and engineering understanding. I always knew, a calorie is a calorie but not all calories are the same…arching to the nutrition side, but never really understood it, until now.

    Thank you.

    My life is complete.

  • Ok, but is there a way to get rid of those pesky fat cells? Fasting? Long term caloric deficit? Resistance training? Cuz all that yoyo dieting I’ve been through, does make it hard to keep the fat away. Tell me there’s a way!:)

  • Is Custokebon Secrets effective to lost a ton of weight? We have learn many good stuff about Custokebon Secrets (just search it on google).

  • Could you talk about being in insulin and how to lose weight while on it. I have lowered mine and on a low carb diet and IF but not losing.

  • Another good job… Since I’ve added more healthy fat to my diet I’ve lost weight which I wasn’t even trying to do, but like you said I wasn’t hungry all the time.

  • Dude, get ur facts right. Portion control, space in between meals, healthy food, and excersise al together is what dieting is. What ur talking about it ONLY portion control, and extreme portion control. Eaat right, excersise, dont snack, and dont eat too much and u will indeed lose weight.

  • I came her because of Greg Douchette his video about you. I like the given information and I subscribed to your channel but due to the manner at which you approach the talked about subject(s) there will be a lot of confusion for those who are not (yet) familiar with the concepts you speak about.

Just maybe for the next videos, use a guide that will lead from general to specificity, a systematic approach at which all will be clarified for the majority because the given concepts are practically very easy to apply and understand.

  • Hi Autumn I have been doing intermittent fasting for a week and a half and I haven’t seen any change. Doing short workouts just to move a little while in quarantine and not over eating calories as far as I can see. Do you have any advice. It feels a bit like a waste of time.

  • Thanks so much for continuing to make these videos. In the uncertain times like these, where many things we take for granted is being challenged, it’s nice to have some things remain the same, like your videos.

  • Can fat cells die? I mean, can you decrease the amount of fat cells in your body?

I’ve heard a lot they don’t but maybe if you are far adapted and maintain a low far percentage the body eventually decides it makes not sense to have a huge amount of them.

  • Hi Respected doctor I lost my weigh 12kg within in 3 month. While I was taking exercise but I feel weakness in. My legs due to weight loss. Give me some suggestion how can I remove my weakness and tell me, is this a serious problem?

  • One very highly neglected cause of weight gain is emotional eating. When you deal with your emotions by eating food which are usually high caloric food, you end up gaining weight. So for conquering your weight loss you need to conquer over emotional eating.
Find more such information on the YouTube channel named Food medicine and lies by Dr. Priti Nanda Sibal, a functinal medicine expert and author of a book based on cyclic keto.

  • Love this video. I have kept my calories around 1200 at 165 lbs. It enables me to bulk quickly, by increasing my caloric intake by a few hundred for a couple of days. I learned that if I want to change the norm I can increase or decrease my calorie intake by 100 bi-weekly to maintain my metabolism, with minimal affects on my weight and energy. What are your thoughts if any? Also I found that I can build more muscle with minimal protein intake and if I slightly increase the protein for a couple of days my gains are considerable in the gym. Thanks for great content.

  • A calorie defecit is the only way to keep losing. As you lose weight your maintenance calorie lessens so you have to always adjust your defecit to 500 less to keep losing.

  • Does that mean that there is no such thing as “fat burning low-intensity exercises” unless you are fasted for 8 to 12+ hrs? If the body has any insulin, then there should not be any fat burn.

  • I was skeptic about Next Level Diet because I thought that I would have to eat only broccoli to lose weight. I am eating only food I like and still losing weight.

  • Can you provide sources/studies that support the metabolic thermostat and, in particular, set points? Intrinsically the theory makes sense, but when I try to mention it to my buddies some dispute it with a “settling” point theory instead

  • Anyone know what is Custokebon Secrets about? I hear lots of people lost tons of weight with Custokebon Secrets (do a search on google).

  • What exactly is Custokebon Secrets? How does this thing really work? I see lots of people keep on talking about this popular weight loss methods.

  • hey! please help me out!
I consult a proper dietician and do weight training and cardio exercises…
I lost weight, however this week when I weighed myself, it again increased,,

can not maintaining proper sleep cycle and constipation be the cause???
    or what else??

  • Diets are made to make you healthier
What if you gain a little weight on the way
You’ll live a long and happy life
    Which is overrated btw
    BURGERS FOR DAYS

  • Guys. lost crazy amounts of fat doesn’t need to be hard (I used to feel it did). I will give you some tips now. Get a popular lose weight method called Custokebon Secrets (do a google search). Thanks to it I’ve lost a lot of weight. I probably should not even be speaking about it cause I do not want a lot of other guys out there running the same game but whatever. I am just simply in a great mood today so I’ll share the wealth lol.

  • Hey There! Thank you for this helpful video. By the way, I notice a lot of people keep on talking about Custokebon Secrets (look on google search engine), but I’m not sure if it is really good. Have you tried Custokebon Secrets? I have heard several unbelivable things about it and my cooworker lost crazy amounts of weight with it, but she refuses to tell me:(

  • So keto is the only option? I intermittent fast (8/16) with limited carbs, but once in a while you have to eat out or eat a friends so carbs are going to be on the table. When I eat those, are my fat cells going to multiply? I don’t really understand some of the points in the video.

  • Hey Thomas!
My weight fluctuates drastically during the day. In the morning it is the least it can be, usually after my workout I gain like 1.5 kg! In the evening it is sometimes +2 kg. I wonder is that okay at all?

  • this is by far the stupidest buzzed video I’ve ever seen. “dieting” yourself into starvation does help you lose weight but not the kind of weight loss you want. make healthy eating and working out a lifestyle NOT a “diet”. I absolutely hate the word diet.

  • Dr. Matthew I am 41 years old 23 mos out from RNY I weigh 170 my height is 5″7. I feel I been in starvation mode for a year because my weight has not moved. I eat 1200 cals a day 96 protein 76 carbs I workout 4 to 5 times a week I burn 284 cals each workout session i lift weights and do cardio. Are my cals too low? I been eating 1200 calories for a year and I feel I am fighting against my body. How can I figure out my BMR the amount of calories my body need to function so I know how much of a deficit to create to lose weight. I want to reach my goal weight of 145lbs

  • hormones in beef are not allowed where i live. i have chronically low ferritin levels (menses every 3 weeks) so i have been told to eat more dead animals.. am i doomed?

  • Hi Dr. Weiner, I listened to your video and heard you mentioned energy drinks like Monster and Red Bull when discussing Sugar Sweetened Drinks, but what about their Zero Calorie counterparts, which do not have any grams of sugar listed and sucralose is not one of the main ingredients (it’s further down the list on the can)?

  • Love this. I’ve now being IF for the past 9 weeks. Lost 6kg and loving my new lifestyle. I’d tried everything before this and never moved any weight!

  • Thanks for the reply, Dr Weiner.  I have tried the CaloRatio app and the problem I have with it is being able to add my homemade soups to it, which are a large part of my diet. On other calorie counting sites I can list all my ingredients and then the total calories/nutritional information and then break that down by serving size.  Any suggestions on how to do that with CaloRatio?

  • How long does fat adaption occur for? I understand fat adaptation typically occurs 6-8 weeks in a keto diet, but how long do those effects last? Will I still be fat adapted if I go back to eating carbs for about 25% of my total diet?

  • Very hard to follow. You did not break it up. You went on a ramble. I am in the medical field and could not follow; so you can imagine what an average person would experiance during watching this.

  • i want know about steroids and injections because a car accident made me gain back my weight everything felt in vain regarding my weight loss

  • What about the tendency to have reactive hypoglycemia? Will starting the Keto diet trigger this reaction when you drastically limit carbs?

  • From my experience not enough calories no weight gain. Struggled with this for a long time until I realised.. I was so energy efficient… I was horrified at how much I would need to actually eat to grow. Still isn’t easy now. Honestly for me the working out is the easy, fun part. Eating feels like a full time job for me a lot of the time.

  • Preach!!! Tbh I jumped into keto+IF just because of curiousity at first, turned out getting all the amazing physique and mental benefits and quite surprised how sustainable it is! Never go back eating crap again.

  • I lost 27 kg on 5 months of keto diet and I slowly introduced carbs back to my diet + IF is my life style. now struggling with stubborn belly fat

  • The main reason people regain is not going into maintenance mode. They make the mistake of thinking they can go back to eating the same way they did before. You have to practice mindful eating, along with continuing to exercise

  • I went from 112kg to 95kg. Now I’m 123kg a year later.:(:(:(
23% body fat to 11% bodyfat. Now… No idea. But definitely worse.

  • I super skinny but I eat crap all the time and I get told I’m way to skinny and no one will love me for it by a friend almost everyday when we talk about the topic of clothes, bras and clothing fit issues but however my friends hates going into new look and top shop as she says they make her feel fat not curvy as the only sections she can shop in is curvy and the maternity.i don’t even think anyone body type would ever be perfect for society as it always picking out mistakes.

  • Hey Tom, I intermittent fast for 16-20 hrs most days and am vegan and trying vegan keto at the moment. My goal is to slim down just 4kgs but I notice my weight rebounds really easily what is the minimum amount of time I should be sticking to keto to get results and how flexible is it, as in, can I do 2 weeks on a strict keto vegan diet and then a month of carbs and (healthy) relatively unrestricted diet and then jump back into keto for 2 weeks? Thanks, B

  • I don’t drink beer ever and had 2 days of family visiting I drank beer and its like all my weight came back to my core. I was so lean before, I’m losing my mind! I didn’t know progress was so so easily lost.

  • I’m working on losing the same 50+ pounds again. It’s definitely a learning experience. The more times I do it the more keto and IF become a lifestyle and not just a “diet”

  • Hi mate, love your videos. You mentioned the body has the ability to make new fat cells as well as swell the already existing ones. Do you know if it’s possible to reduce the number of fat cells rather than just shrinking them? Whether through autophagy or another mechanism? Thanks Mick

  • So does the same thing apply during prolonged fasting? I’m still wary of doing monthly 36-48 hour water fasts while I’m trying to lean bulk.

I lost around 1-3 pounds of “something” during my last 36 hour water fast, my 3rd time. But, this time I’m lean bulking, not recomping. So I decided to make up for the calories-probably stupid, since muscle should be preserved during a fast. In any case, I ate in a 800-900 calorie surplus for the next 3 days to make up for the calories + surplus lost that day and a half. I’m hoping it didn’t go straight to fat, but, I suppose it probably would, since my body was probably like “Must prepare for next month’s water fast”. And, that is very abrupt from 0 to 100. With proper fast breaking. Ending the fast at 138.8 pounds, a week later, I was at 144, which evened out at around 142, being 141 pounds pre-water fast.

  • Do you have any videos or advice on maintaining weight while on Keto? I’m at the point where I dont want to lose any more but don’t want to gain either?

  • cut out all fast food, soda, candy, Only drink water.. Go to the gym at least 3 times a week.Run a mile each work out. I lost 50 lbs in 5 months.I also have kept it off

  • What if u lost an interesting amount of weight and you’re on the verge of falling off the wagon how do you reset your metabolism slowly but surely please answer very important

  • So the decreased metabolic rate is not because of eating less in general, but due to muscle loss? If I eat 500kcal less a day than my maintenance, but somehow keep my muscle, it won’t slow down? Is it possible with the right training if i’m not keto?

  • Dr. Weiner, I am a post op gastric bypass patient and a graduate student earning my Master’s in Counseling.  I am currently working on a literature review regarding whether calories are truly an important factor on the long term successful weight management of gastric bypass patients.  I love your philosophy regarding this topic and how it’s the source of the calories, not necessary the number of calories, that is key.  I understand you are very busy, but if you would allow me to make an appointment to just talk with you regarding your book and your belief system on this topic, I would greatly appreciate it.   Thanks

  • So glad you’re discussing this topic. I never thought after losing over 140 lbs in less than a year that I would gain back almost 40. Especially not with having the info that I had, but here I am 40 lbs heavier than I was last year sadly enough. I thought keto/fasting would forever keep me from this yo-yo effect but I really did start to give in to being more hungrier and I allowed stress to bring back some not so productive ways to deal it. Anyway, I’m still fighting to get back to where I was but I can’t seem to string together more than one week of consistent keto. I still fast every day but I think the 18-24 hr fasts aren’t helping and an extended fast is the only thing that will get me back on track. What do you think Thomas DeLauer since I was keto/fasting and my rmr did change and I gained that much weight back and now it feels like I won’t lose it?

  • I lost a lot of weight on keto and then started to have cheat days or weekends. Now I’m 15lb to 20lb heavier and can’t seem to go back down to 165 from the 180-ish I am right now. Any suggestions?

  • +Thomas DeLauer Can you PLEASE PLEASE talk about reverse dieting? Did Keto, lost 45 lbs, and had a 10 lb rebound. Back in Keto but I don’t think I want to stay keto forever. I think I know what is supposed to be done but I guarantee you will make it make sense and provide information that most people overlook. Tips and tricks to reverse diet, MACROS for reverse diet and macros for a healthy baseline for maintenance would help me and many others so much!!!

  • when you listen to him talk it sounds almost uninterrupted. when you watch his speech i counted 27 video out takes. at 2.01 watch the person’s camera taking a picture of the screen. something isn’t quite right here. hmmmmmm? it’s either you tube censoring him or whomever is taping this video.

  • I lost 5kg with keto and IF last year but regained them ALL for the past 3 months mostly by binging on nuts… I can’t stop even buying nuts after keto. Any ideas of how to stop it? I feel so miserable and I may gain more weight…It’s even a roadblock on my restarting my keto and IF journey now. (I don’t eat starch or starchy veggies)

  • Very informative. What I take away from this podcast is not to eat too much meat, non processed foods, and eat or make stuff at home. Thanks Dr.Wiener!!

  • So you said you are trying plant based keto for two weeks right? Though, we have not seen any what you eat in a day videos, how you are feeling or recipes! What’s up Thomas?

  • I keep trying but not getting anything so I figure I’ll just keep giving it a go. I’m sure there are others in my boat as well.

I did IF about 1 1/2years ago (per your advice on your videos) but you didn’t at the time have much on alternating days, making sure to keep calories up, etc. sooo I kept them very low 900cals:/ for about 2-3months. Then increased back to 1500 (slowly over 4 months) where I was before and could maintain 115lb only to find that my weight went to 125!!!!! I assume this is due to the drop in metabolism…

    1. is there anyway to reverse these effects? And restore my metabolism without gaining a tun of weight?

    2. At this point I’m still at 1550 calories and around 125-127, but I want to lose that weight… I still aim to eat it all in an 8hr window with occasional days that are not IF just due to being paranoid after the weight gain.

    3. Any advice, guidance, or a video 😉 I’m sure others have had a similar experience at some point.

  • On that study for the keto diet and keeping the RMR the same, what would happen if after losing the weight they switched to a normal diet at that RMR? would it still be safe or would they see a large weight gain? just curious if you know or if other studies have been done. I’m totally tempted now!

  • I don’t know about this video. My dr and other drs have told me my body has essentially gone into starvation mode. I don’t eat more than 1000 per day. I’ve had basically the same diet since I was 13, if not less food (no one to cook for me but me). But before I was 19 I was always under weight, my body went into starvation mode, and holds onto almost everything I eat. I don’t have a great diet and almost everything I eat is grain based (mostly chips). I can eat a bag of chips and be set for the whole day. I’m not even exaggerating. My BF has to force me to eat more some days, when he notices my diet is lacking food.

I’ve been eating more healthy of the passed week and the excess food makes me sick. I’m at 1,500 calories a day, now… But I feel like I have the flu.

I do believe in the idea of starvation mode, because I live it. Yes, I count the drinks I drink into my calorie count.

Before someone tells me that I ate more than 1000 calories a day if I’m overweight, you don’t know what you’re talking about. A few days over the past few months, I counted my daily average intake and there were days I barely reached 700. After I noticed one day I ate only 562 calories one day, I knew I had to try to change. That was Sunday. I changed my diet and now I feel like shit. I know it could be that my body is trying to repair itself now, but I still feel like I have the damn flu.

  • I REFUSE to gain any weight again. Nope I’m finally into the 130’s and I’m going to keep building muscles to make sure I stay small!!!

  • I’m starting to lose weight with IF and eating less than 1500kcal a day. If I start keto I’ll mks excuses or get overwhelmed and fail. But this baby step of less calories, then IF is already working. Keto will be the baby next step.

  • How fast is fast. Lose 20 pounds and gain 3 pounds a month for 7 months? Or are we talking about losing 10 pounds one month and gaining 5 pounds for 4 months? What does quick mean. What’s the scale of the changes to the scale?

  • Do natural popular lose weight secrets like Custokebon Secrets really work and if so, how effective are they? I’ve noticed several awesome things about this popular lose weight secrets.

  • I did 9 weeks of keto and lost 25 lbs and felt like I lost muscle at the same time so I took a week and kept carbs to 100 grams but still feel like the fat is coming back on.. I cut back on cardio and started hitting heavy weights again and feel strong.. so my question is…. is there a happy medium? By the way love all the videos.. and have sent a dozen or more peeps to your youtube page..

  • There are very healthy looking vegans that follow dr mc Dougals starch solution, no fat, no animal protein, and no dairy. So why are these ppl doing so good?

  • Have you guys heard of Healthy Wage? It’s a really cool weight loss program which pays you to lose weight. Basically the way it works is you set a weight loss goal and establish a time frame, then bet a certain dollar amount per month that you will reach your goal. If you reach your goal you get all your money back plus a substantial cash prize. For example I’m betting $75 a month that I can lose 90 pounds by February of next year. When I reach that goal I’ll win a prize of $2,100. Crazy, right? But legit. Check out my referral link. All the details are explained and if you use my link you get an extra $40 added to your winnings. https://hwage.co/1998722/

  • After struggling with weight loss for years, I was able to lose 16 pounds in my first month as I finally found a solution that targets weight loss in 5 different ways. If loosing weight is on your list of resolution this year, watch short review video in my channel to see how I did it. Don’t just read/watch all the success stories, become one. Stay motivated always!

  • I really appreciate this. For many years I heard restrict calories and exactly as you’ve said I was able to do so for short periods but inevitably regained the weight and more. I had RNY six years ago. I was near 500 pounds and have been able to lose almost half my original weight. However, I have regained about 20 pounds over the past year because of medications that I have been on-steroids, and a variety of pain medications and other meds. I would love to find out how to speak to my doctor about adjusting these medications because I can’t be given just a shrugged and I’m not going back to being 445. I also have peripheral neuropathy which I got after my surgery-this has severely affected my balance and exercise ability. I’ve been going from doctor to doctor for help and I am currently doing physical and vestibular therapy…if you have any suggestions I would love to hear them. Thank you for your vidoes.

  • Interesting study! Please make a video on white fat cells and brown fat cells and how I can increase my brown fat cells. Thanks so much for all your videos, Nana

  • Food is fuel, load up in the morning, taper off as the day goes on, eat a moderate lunch and a sparse dinner.
Never go to bed with a full stomach.
    You will lose weight.

  • The study you mentioned had included individuals with BMI only over 30. Unless you’re morbidly obese, this very low calorie keto is not likely to preserve RMR that accompanies significant weight loss. 600-800 cal diet is a crash diet and will most likely burn muscles in longer term

  • Do anyone know about Custokebon Secrets? Does it really work? I hear lots of people burn their weight with this popular fat burn secrets.

  • i lost a lot of fat on my body in like 2 weeks and i gained it all back and more in 3 days??? or it feels like it. i didnt stop training or something like that

  • Autumn I need your help in the most massive way!!! I am rapidly gaining weight because of this stay at home order from the government. But naturally I struggle with my weight due to hormone imbalance anyway, and I have tried intermittent fasting and you would have thought I was injecting cheesecake right into my veins i gained so much weight! What to do? Maybe if i just eat dirt and grass clippings; those are gluten free, fat free, dairy free, carb free, all natural??? right?!!

  • Sir,
My name is Amit N. and I am from India.

I have been a regular follower of yours. Firstly thank you for your guidance. You are doing a very noble work.
I am 5′ 5” tall. Two years ago my weight was 125 Kgs. (about 275 pounds). I started exercise and diet.
When I was 108 kgs. (238 pounds) I came to know about your channel and IF. I started doing IF. I have now reached 78 kgs. (about 171 pounds).

However, now I am struggling to lose weight. There is still fat about my waist. I have been doing weight training regularly (six days a week). Can you please suggest what should I follow hereafter.
I do not want to gain the lost weight. In my mind I want to loose another 10 kgs. and then build a muscular body. Kindly guide me, highly obliged. Thanking you in anticipation.
    Regards Amit

  • Dr. Weiner, thank you. I was pointed to your book by a woman while sitting next to her at the bar just before the Covid19 pandemic began:) My family has a high instance of obesity, heart disease and diabetes, so I have many reasons to have purchased your Pound of Cure book. When Covid19 began, with the fears of food availability, everything missing from your recommended foods was showing up in my Kroger clicklist; especially processed foods. I gained weight (above weight I already needed to lose) and more severe inflammation problems to boot. I’m pretty motivated now to embrace the learnings from you book and these really helpful videos. In just a week of removing bread, processed foods and dairy, I’ve noticed a positive change in inflammation. I just wanted to thank you for the wealth of information you provide here on youtube. Ps. I used to live in Commerce Twp and the intersection of Commerce, Commerce and Commerce always threw me! Not fun when you’re towing a boat and trying to find an address. LOL

  • Hey Thomas. Great video as always. My question is there a way to destroy kill fat cells. So we understand they grow, shrink and multiply. But can we get rid of them?

  • Hello, have you considered this diet plan known as the Custokebon Secrets? My mate says it helps people lost crazy amounts of weight. Is that possible? I also noticed a lot of great review relating to this diet plan. Thoughts?
