  • I almost always bring my own food due to allergies which have required hospital treatment. Packing your own is normal here in Australia. 99% 9f the time my husband takes leftovers to work. I deliberately cook a little extra each night for his lunches, it doesn’t take any longer and doesn’t cost much more. Our schools do not have lunches like America so kids bring their own. My son had sandwiches but my daughter hated them so she also had leftovers at school. They also had a variety of different fruits and homemade snacks.
    PS to keep lunches cool in your lunch bags, do what us Aussies do freeze a juice box or water bottle and keep it in your lunchbag. You’ll have a cool lunch and cold drink.

Many schools are nut free zones meaning they do not allow food or drink that contain nuts due to student’s nut allergies. My kids have been vegan since birth (4 month old daughter & 2.5 yr old son) so I’m constantly trying to think of what to pack for his school lunch that is vegan and doesn’t contain nuts.   • Is that Wild Planet tuna? I’ve hated tuna my whole life, but tuna salad with this brand only (I have to drain it, even though it says not to) is actually delicious! Still can’t eat it by itself, lol.

  • Snap Ware brand is the BEST brand of food containers I’ve ever used. Air tight, completely leak proof. They have glass options, as well as non BPA plastic options. Both are brilliant.

  • I pack my wife and my lunch too. One little thing you can do is put a bit of sugar on the cut fruit it pulls some of the juices out and makes a little bit of a sweet sauce. I went back to school to train in a rigorous program the past few years and I started to pack a lot more food like this.     I’ve been watching your videos for a while now and I’ve tried some of your recipes and I love them! Especially the nut bars! I love that you did a videos with your niece and nephew! As a proud aunt who loves to cook and bake with her nephew’s, this video hit home for me! However, I notice there is a lot of what I would call… raw cheese? I know “raw” is not the proper terminology here, but basically unless it’s creme cheese, or cheese that has been melted on something, like pizza, I really don’t care for it (I know, I can hear people’s disapproval and I haven’t even pressed submit yet). I especially don’t care for fresh mozzaella. To me it seems like I’m chewing on Play-Doh. It’s almost like how some people don’t like the touch or feel of cotton. Like nails on a chalk board that make me want to be sick. I say all of that to basically say, it’s almost the texture more than the flavor, but I’m still not crazy about the flavor (I feel the same way about eggs. I’ve tried many times as they are a good healthy protein with loads of potential for variety, but I can’t stomach it). Do you recommend and kind of alternative form of protein instead of the cheeses? My instinct would be to instead put some plain Greek yogurt with a few berries on the side of those dishes, but I thought I may as well ask in case you have any ideas. Thanks so much for what you do! You’ve inspired me in many ways!

  • as a kid that ate the same sandwich for 10 years of school, I can tell you that not packaging a big variety of food for kids is a very bad idea! i ended up hating on some types of foods and a lot of days I didn’t eat my sandwich. not to mention that I couldn’t take all the nutrients I needed from a very small variety of food I was fed with. no wonder I was felling horrible back then.

  • My college aged son sent me a list of items to pick up from the grocery store and they were for these dishes. He’s in school full time and works full time but he’s also a very healthy person. I just made the wraps for him to take to work for his lunch. (He’s 20 and usually makes his own lunches but today he was rushing so I whipped them up…my roll technique can use some practice but they looked and smelled amazing!)   • There’s a fridge and microwave at my workplace. It’s far more common for people to bring their own home-cooked food for re-heating than it is for people to bring simple sandwiches or take-out stuff. A hearty meal you made yourself in the middle of a workday is like magic, I’m more surprised by people not doing it D:

  • Making a blanket statement like “too much variety overwhelms kids” is flatly incorrect. Having nannied oodles of kids over a couple decades I can say that with certainty.
    Painting the whole picture with one brush rarely works out well. Really it depends on the individual kid actually; also even if you are engaging with a kid who is subject to overwhelm at times adding a bit of lunch variety could be gently helpful in climbing toward a more confident relaxed kid even in the face of great variety (which can get to anyone on occasion depending on circumstances) so I find it more advantageous to be curious, observe and ask questions than to pay any attention to blanket statements. ��

  • I’m a bit late haha but I find it difficult as a single person to spend time cooking and preparing lunches that will end up being around $2-3 per day at best. Knowing that I can drive through McDonald’s or some other fast food joint and pick up a couple sandwiches and a large drink for $3. I also try to avoid reheating food when I can.

  • My son goes to a charter school that doesn’t have a lunch program, which means that I have packed his lunch everyday for the past 2 years. I can say that while kids definately do NOT like surprises when it comes to their food, they will eventually enjoy variety. I can’t tell you how happy my 5 year old was to have leftover taco salad for lunch after eating the same almond butter sandwich for several months straight. Also, if you have to pack multiple snacks or meals, pack-it sells a picnic basket size. This is what I use when my son stays after school for gymnastics. I can fit his regular snack, lunch, after school snack and water bottle, and gymnastics snack. Kid eats a lot of food.

  • Dealing with major food aversion, orthorexia, and a histamine intolerance, which is all apparently just the story for me when pregnant. Trying to eat both cleanly and flexibly, but I can make a whole meal, sit down with it, and want to die rather than eat. Saving this for when my brain and body return to normal, and I can enjoy eating well and varied again. Looks so good.

  • Wow. I had no idea people were living so much more luxuriously than I am. All these tips are much more luxurious than I’m eating, but I guess it makes me feel good about myself knowing that I’ve already been packing my own food for many years and it’s been a lot easier than this because I don’t make it so nice.

  • After my husband died, I didn’t want to cook for just me, so I got in the habit of buying microwave dinners and going out to eat—mostly the former. And then I started experiencing the beginnings of arthritis. I’m a pianist and harpsichordist, so I started feeling it in my hands I knew something had to change. A friend told me about eating for your blood type. Arthritis is typical with O+ blood types, so I have been following the eating plan for a year and dramatically reduced arthritis symptoms!   • I was never one to eat out all the time when going to work, but now that we’re in confinement, I see just how much money I was still spending on lunches out and coffee on the go. Crazy! Definitely not going back to those bad habits when confinement is lifted.

  • Your green containers look like preserve brand. There made in USA out of recycled plastic. They will recycle a lot of there products. Also my brother works at Pepperidge farms. And they can’t use glass or stainless steel food containers because it can contaminate food. So some people have to use plastic so I don’t know why they get mad at people.


  • I can’t imagine a parent doing this type of lunchboxes for their children. My mom would just grab a bunch of snacks and chocolates and put them in my bag ��

  • In Spain, we have lunch at recess and instead of preparing those lunches, they make a sandwich, wrap it in aluminum foil and take us to school ��

  • kids can be quite picky so to have a bit of something everyone might like is a brilliant idea, they can choose whatever they want and there will be no wastage

  • What about trying the Indian method using tiffin boxes as they are much more eco friendly and look great also. Would love to see more recipe ideas for these boxes without the astringency of fetta and basil please. Also not a good idea to put the dressing on the salads as it cooks the vegetables and fruit.   • I always make and pack my lunch. I’ve never felt embarassed or inconvenienced by it, but rather proud that I am saving money and having good food at the same time. Whenever my office mates order out for lunch, I was like “what you got there bro? KFC? I got here some Chicken Adobo ��” or Caldereta. Or Curry.

  • I understand you’re trying to make creative dishes but for the grilled cheese roll up why not just make a grilled cheese since you didn’t add anything to it other than cutting off the crust which to me is the best part of a grilled cheese
